Title: Dogg Pound- Dogg Chit appreciation thread
Post by: d-nice on March 27, 2007, 12:49:58 PM
I know there are about 30 threads about this album but I am one of the few that has not heard the whole album until today. After 1 listen I think it is a good album. Nothing ground breaking but a definite improvement from CIA. The problem for me for CIA was the lyrics (kurupt in particular) and the sound was all over the place. DC has more of that DPGC sound with Daz, Soopafly and Ivan Johnson doing the beats. Good to hear Daz behind the boards again. Kurupt is improving but at times still depending too much on curse words to rhyme, but he had some nice verse on here. Favorites so far:

Mo Murda
Vibe
Blast On Em
Bucc Em
Where U From
It'z A Good Day
Blaze It Up
1 N 1 Out
This Gangsta Chit Iz Ourz (cold ass beat)

And it sounds good in a system. A Good Cruising album. 3rd best album after Dogg Food and D&YG. I will have more posts as I listen to it. Feel free to speak ya mind. Oh yeah if you want the 3 bonus tracks, buy it from Best Buy. If ya didn't, holla at me.

I hear ya. The more I listen to it, I will post what I think. Crazy to think Pull Ya Drawz Down is one of the first official songs Snoop has appeared and rapped with Daz on that Daz has produced in a while. I know there are alot of unreleased cuts Daz supposedly produced but it has been a while since I have heard Snoop on some Daz beats.

It sounds damn good so far, but I don't wanna say too much yet. All I can say is it sounds really good after like 1 spin.

Blaze It Up is a nice posse cut. The beat was not what I was expecting but this turned out dope. Good to hear Jayo Felony back doing it.

Jayo gotta be my favorite MC but that was one of his worst verses ive heard in a long time

How many threads do we need about this album?

Like I said, I have not heard the album until today and I don't feel like finding the other 30 threads on this and posting something. I always do a appreciation thread the week a album is out. I did one for Evidence. If it's a problem, the mods should delete it. No big deal.

definite improvement, solid/consistent album as well. I think I may have killed some of the experience by peeping every single leaked track and playing them out. I cant listen to vibe/1n1out/where u from/etc, But I did think that introduction song was hard as hell, one of my favorite tracks off the bitch. I think this is what D&YG2 should have been, later on after I buy it I might make a compillation mixing DC and D&YG2 tracks since the blending and meshing would be pretty identical.

^
Word..Do you really need a week to actually appreciate and make up ur mind about an album??
Cool..I usually make up my mind after a listening to the album from track one=>the last track..after I've bought it....

But I'll try and give it a little more time span than just a a couple of spins!

I have to let an album soak, cuz u catch things you don't catch the first time. It's like working at a job that u might love the first day but after a week, straight up hate it.

But you are right, about letting the music soak in..after  one needs some sort assurance that the money we spent on a CD is really worth it!

I mobbed to LBC to hit VIP records and they didn't have it with the bonus tracks. So I rebought D&YG1 for the second time (no longer had a copy). Then I hit the Best Buy in Long Beach and they were sold out of DC.

Then I hit the Best Buy in Rancho Cucamonga, they didn't have it. and I was gonna go to San bernardino to hit that Best buy but it was 8:50 when I was gonna do this and they close at 9.

also, my brand new ass copy of Dillinger and young gotti came with a fucked up inner case, and the disc was burnt so cheaply it skips a grip. i'm really mad at daz right now.

Man this album is growing on me. Get Out My Way kicks off this album sooo gangsta. DPGC has been dropping alot of projects the last couple of years and this year already we got Dogg Chit and Bangin Westcoast and The Big Squeeze next month.

I have listened to it about 3 times all the way through and it is still good to me. Would have been nice to hear some Nate Dogg and have a Rage verse on here but overall it is still DPGC music to the fullest. Good follow up to CIA with that album being so left field to what DPG does.

Shoot em up was the classic track out of the whole album. 4.5/5
Title: Re: Dogg Pound- Dogg Chit appreciation thread
Post by: Tanjential on March 30, 2007, 10:01:48 AM
there are 12 dope songs

Everybody
Anybody Killa
Vibe Wit A Pimp
Can't Get Enough
Dat Ain't My Baby
Where U From
Throw Ya Hood Up
It'z A Good Azz Day
Pull Ya Draws Down
Blast on 'em
Bucc 'em
Blaze it Up

the rest have some decent Kurupt verses but Daz's really dark synthesized production on those songs offers me nothing. if this album has taught me anything, it's that daz needs to stick to g-funk cause he's still dope at it. where you from/throw ya hood up/good azz day is such a good run of 3 dope songs. that's the best moment on the album to me, those 3 consecutive songs, flow perfect like 95. that intro is nice too, too bad i really don't like get out my way. does anyone else think the first 2 songs sound exactly the same?

Give a listen to "Shit happens" on D&YG, it's much better than the whole Dogg Chit album...

i am juuust as familiar with D&YG as DC, if not more. and though shit happens(as well as a bunch of other tracks on the album) is tight. it doesn't take away the dopeness of

'good azz day'
'vibe'
'where u from' -possibly best track
'anybody killa'-possibly best track
'blaze it up'-the most original track on the album, and it's a banger.

D&YG is just as spotty and weak/inconsistent as DC for all the same reasons.

daz doesn't spit a verse on blaze it up, does he?

I have bumped this now about 5 or 6 times and I like the album. Nothing that I really skip, but there are a few bland tracks. The "Ho" tracks they make are bland to me. You can't top Bomb Azz Pussy. 1 N 1 Out sounds great in the system.

I really don't dig the beat much either but the bass and reverb in a system is insane. Dipp With Me was another track that would shake my whole car. Coastin too. I hope Dogg Chit does decent numbers and they decide to do more than 1 single.

Yeah on Doggystyle/Koch. He said in that dubcnn interview he has 3 tracks from Mel-Man.  :o

Kurupt and Fred Wreck always make dope music together. I think DPGC has got a nice thing going right now. Everyone is getting along and collabing to make dope music. They are like a west coast Wu-Tang. Self contained, no need for rappers or beats, everything is home grown if they want it to be.

Because Dre takes so long. He even said it, he was listening to a beat mix Dre had and picked out Boss Life. Shit Dre and Snoop should be making some shit from scratch in the studio.

Self contained, no need for rappers or beats, everything is home grown if they want it to be.

yeah i realized while listening to dogg chit, if Kurupt wants to rap over a dre beat, he'll rap over a dre beat (ie: anybody killa) so it's all good, you know? they'll do what they do and there will be some dope shit.

-T

I am glad they are not waiting on Dre to collaborate. All of them have dope albums without Dre's beats so they can stand on this own. Kurupt can pick from Daz, Fred Wreck, Soopafly and a host of others so he is good. Same with Snoop now.

i still think snoop has as much access to dre as anyone, but he just has to touch bases with so many people there's too many reasons to not hook up with dre for more than 3 tracks per album.

-T

Because Dre takes so long. He even said it, he was listening to a beat mix Dre had and picked out Boss Life. Shit Dre and Snoop should be making some shit from scratch in the studio. New beat and everything. I would like to hear Snoop over more Fred Wreck beats personally. It was good to hear Snoop over Daz's beats again.

is snoop on the chorus on bucc 'em?

cause yeah , he does sound good back with daz

-T

Yeah that is him. They made a good team on Tha Doggfather.

Brotha Lynch and RBX had the dopest spots on the whole album IMO and then Game, Kurupt's rhyme pattern for a while has been to rhyme something before he ends with muthafucka so it' s all good I just think he likes saying muthafucka alot, I like when he slows his flow down nowadays he seems to come more lyrical when he does that

Because I think such "I wish"-posts are retarding. I read that so often "I wish Dre could produce a whole Snoop album again", "I wish Warren would do G-Funk with the Twins again" and all that shit. And what bothered me somehow was that there are names on the list, that don't have to do anything with the original DPGC. I don't want to diss you but I read so much retarding and dumb shit on the board, sometimes I get a bit angry and do such posts. Don't take it serious homie...

Going through my first listen of this now, sounding much better than I had anticipated after the mess that was CIA. I agree the first two tracks sound exactly the same as one another like someone else said.

Coming from someone who doesn't even like The Game, he completly ripped Anybody Killa, certainly made me sit up and take notice. I will post some more impressions once I get to the end of the album.

Where U From - Cool song, Bad Azz comes tight
It'z A Good Azz Day - The hook is soooo dope. Perfect song for the summer. 8)
Blaze It Up - Very nice song. Everyone is good but BG Knocc Out kills it. (To me the hook sounds similar to Sittin On 23z? Just the way Daz yells it.  ;D)

This is a really good and solid album, nothing spectacular but everyone does their thing and it all works well.

Kurupt may still have some parts of the album where his lyrics are a little unimaginative (the first song springs to mind!), but overall he does well and at least he's flowing on beat throughout the whole thing, something that he hasn't always done recently.

The album is very much in the style of Dillinger and Young Gotti with the synth work and I think that style works really well with them and is definitely something they should continue with.

Overall I was very pleasantly suprised, much better than I had imagined it could be.

PS - props for the Ginsberg quote Tanjibility, I find some of his writing incredibly hard to decifer but it always seems to leave a lasting impression on me, so he must have been doing something right.

I agree for the most part but

a)I feel the sound is quite different from DYG, but they're both pretty dope.

b)while I can take some of the synth, I appreciate it way more when daz uses real instruments (a la 'on tha grind' from R.A.W.)

c)Thanks, his first two books, short collections of poetry Howl and Kaddish are pretty accessible and some of my favorite Beat literature. His poem "Is About" isn't in either of those, but also a really accessible relatively straightforward poem. He is one of my favorites.

Props on the Hunter Thompson signature. the way you described how you feel about Ginsberg is how I feel about him. he was really influenced by ginsberg and the other beats.

the one that i've been feelin that I didn't at first is "everybody". "Eagles don'y fly in packs/bout to break that tradition soopafly in the back" is so perfect cause daz dropped the beat to accent the vocals and it's so dope cause it cements the reunion of tha DP to hear Kurupt shout Soopa like that. dope shit

OK, I have listened to each song at least once, and there is one huge difference between this and CIA & D &YGII, Kurupt actually sounds comfortable rapping on most of the tracks. He's finally flowing again, and has at least good lyrics throught the album. I'm still having a hard time believeing it.
The production isn't the best in the world, some of it's pretty dated but all in all this was so much better than I think anyone expected it too be.

Daz's rapping is average on most tracks as usual and alot of the tracks were similar, but they do sound good together, and any DPG fan is gonna appreciate this. As far as guests go, I liked Snoop on Vibe, but the other 2 tracks were just so so. The Game had a great verse, which suprised me & Lynch really did his thing. I thought Too Short's verse was garbo, "Saditiy" was way better, and I wasn't feelin RBX. The last track with Malone, Jayo, Bg & Dresta was sick, no one came off as good as Kurupt did, but they were all dope in there own way.

I'll give this a strong 3.5/5...only because alot of the tracks were the same shoot em up tracks, and alot of Daz's verses were interchanable, but this is still a great album.
