I wont debate it but you cant argue with someone who enjoys watching basketball more than football. Not saying I havnt enjoyed the football season this year, but Ill always prefer the NBA to the NFL.

I think its a fact that the NFL is the most popular sport in the US...and I believe is up there with the NHL in Canada (thats impressive)

I was never into NFL at all... the only sports I really watch on a regular basis are soccer and B-Ball

It really depends on what you compare, and LOL how your teams are doing/how they did.
I have always liked BBall more, but some years, I'm more into football than others. I've really been more into football since bein in college, especially since ESPN shows it all day...but I still prefer BBall more.

Troy Vincent blocking a game winning field goal by Mike Vanderjagt which was recovered by Sean Taylor to setup a Redskins game winning field goal over the Cowboys was awesome.
Tony Romo botching the hold to lose the playoff game was also awesome.

LOL, just because you lost interest in the league when Shaq was no longer on your "favotire team" doesn't mean it's the same for every basketball fan out there...As a Laker fan, the season is more interesting than it has been in the last 5+ years. It's all a matter of opinion, and like other dude said, if your team is doing well or is on the verge of building a dynasty, there's nothing like following them in their path to the top...PeACe

those are the only 'exciting things that have really happened with the league as a whole

that further strengthens my argument...
on the real there's only 3 or 4 teams in the NBA on the verge of building a REAL dynasty.......that means 3or 4 cities involved in the excitement of the sport. the mavs, the suns, the spurs, maybe the lakers, maybe the nuggets, being able to get that trophy. there's not enough balance....so being a laker fan yeah it's pretty cool right now.....but if they get bounced out the playoffs am i seriously going to want to watch the playoffs that much...not really, maybe loosly but not really.
in the nfl you have the bears, the saints, the colts, the patriots, the chargers, the cowboys, the seahawks, philly,baltimore who all could have made pushes to the superbowl...and WON . then you have the bengles, the 49ers (yuck, but they're on the come up) , carolina, denver, really i can go on who all missed the playoffs but who can either make deep runs next year in the playoffs or win it all. soooo many cities involved here. my raiders were in last place this year and my cowboys got EMBARRASSED in the first round....but i'm STILL excited about every game like it's the cowboys in there still .....same with EVERYONE i know in LA, in bakersfield, in Santa Rosa, utah, and my relatives in newfoundland canada...... the NFL is superior to the NBA right now. no one is going to watch a the nba finals.....except the fans of the two teams in there, it's going to be Spurs/Nets ratings lol.

PRINCETON, NJ -- The Indianapolis Colts will face the Chicago Bears in Super Bowl XLI on Feb. 4 in Miami. As has been true for over 30 years, Americans continue to name football as their favorite sport. But never before has a higher percentage named football, or any other sport, as its favorite since Gallup first asked this question in 1937. While football ranks as the top sport for Americans in every major demographic group, there are some differences in preference for various sports among men and women, younger and older adults, and those living in different regions of the country.
Americans' Favorite Sport
The Dec. 11-14, 2006, poll asked Americans to identify, without prompting, their "favorite sport to watch." Forty-three percent mention football, more than three times the percentage mentioning any other sport. Basketball, at 12%, and baseball, at 11%, are next. Four percent of Americans name auto racing and 3% each say golf and figure skating. Twelve percent of Americans say they do not have a favorite sport.
Each of the three times Gallup asked the question between 1937 and 1960, baseball ranked as Americans' favorite sport. By 1972, football overtook baseball, and the former has remained at the top ever since. Meanwhile, basketball has gained in popularity, and since 2000 has either been tied with or ranked ahead of baseball in every poll.
The percentage of Americans who say football is their favorite sport to watch (43%) is higher now than at any other time. The previous high point was 38% in 1981 and 1992. In recent years, before the increase this year, roughly one in three Americans have said football is their favorite sport.
Half of Men Say Football Is Favorite Sport
While football is easily the top sport among both men and women, men (50%) are much more likely than women (36%) to say football is their favorite. Women are slightly more likely than men to say basketball (14% vs. 9%) is their favorite, and women are also more likely to say they do not have a favorite sport to watch (16% vs. 7%).

Baseball is more popular with older Americans, with 14% of those aged 50 and older, 10% of 35- to 49-year-olds, and 7% of 18- to 34-year-olds choosing it as their favorite sport. Americans aged 18 to 34 are twice as likely to mention basketball as they are to mention baseball as the top sport.
Basketball Most Popular in the Western United States
Regardless of where Americans live, football is the top sport, but there are regional variations in the favorite sport:
Football is most popular in the South and least popular in the West. Forty-eight percent of Southerners say football is their favorite sport to watch, compared with 42% of Midwesterners, 40% of Easterners, and 38% of Westerners.
Americans living in the West are more likely to prefer basketball than are those living elsewhere. Nineteen percent of Westerners say basketball is their favorite sport, while 11% of Southerners, 10% of Midwesterners, and 8% of Easterners feel this way.
Eighteen percent of those residing in the East say baseball is their favorite sport, a higher percentage than for those living elsewhere.

For results based on the total sample of national adults, one can say with 95% confidence that the maximum margin of sampling error is ±3 percentage points. In addition to sampling error, question wording and practical difficulties in conducting surveys can introduce error or bias into the findings of public opinion polls.

the thing is the NFL is also the easiest sport to follow, they only play once a week and the season is only 16 games so basically there is not alot of time involved for people with busy lives, familes, etc, the NBA is great for me cause I'm a single dude but when I get married and have kids and whatever it'll be harder to follow

I'm an football fan so I'm gonna say the NFL. I don't miss a Pats game and I haven't for as long as I remember. I almost never watch basketball at all. 1.- i'm not the grandfather of this argument....i pulled this straight from the sports press(espn, la times, ny times, sporting news, fox sports, journalists, ect.) also this has been typical barber shop talk for the past 2-3 years as well. this has been hotty debated for quite some time dude. again this shows that you have no business in a sports debate and your opinion doesn't really matter, because you are ignorant as to what is happening in SPORTS. ya you probably know who the back up water boy for the lakers is but could you tell me who's going to play free safety for both teams in the superbowl without having to look it up on nfl.com? did you even know who the Bears' rb or QB was for that matter? again what could you POSSIBLY contribute intellectually to this debate without holding a bias. i like basketball more overall but the NFL WITHOUT A DOUBT has been the superior League for the past few years....nooooooooo doubt.

According to you, soccer is more exciting than football, since more people watch soccer. Statistics don't mean shit, genius. More people watch football than basketball or baseball also due to the fact that it's easier to follow, less games played, more channels show more games, etc...And just because the ratings are higher doesn't mean someones opinion can't be that basketball is more exciting than football this season...I guess everyone who rather watch Spurs vs Pistons over Bengals vs Steelers is an idiot then...Please, at least TRY being rational with your bullshit...PeACe
