Title: "Cheat days" can be good for your diet
Post by: Sikotic™ on January 20, 2007, 12:34:27 AM
I've been using the idea of the "cheat day" for a long time now because I just don't have the willpower to stick to a diet for very long before I need take a break. I finally just accepted cheating as a necessary means to an end: if I can't cheat now and then I'm not able to stick to a diet. And I need to diet. Simple as that.

But it seems that my weakness isn't so bad after all. I came across an article that says cheat days are to your diet what vacation time is for your job. "It's the down time that allows you to recover and return to your work with a clearer sense of purpose." So if you consider that your diet is "work," (and I think most people would agree with that!) then you need "vacation time," or the occasional ice cream binge, to stay focused and clear on your weight-loss objectives. You need the break to continue on effectively. Makes total sense to me!

The trick is to only take "cheat days" occasionally, and not all the time. Again, consider vacation time from your job. Obviously, a weekly "Doritos Days" or "Sundae Sunday" is going to wreak havoc on your waistline instead of help it!

I disagree with the last paragraph. Eating whatever once a week is fine in my opinion. As long as that one day doesn't carry on for 2, 3 or 4 days.

Tomorrow is my cheat day. I'm going down to LA and hitting up Roscoe's for breakfast. I'ma get a chicken breast with 2 waffles there and extra syrup. Then I'm gonna bowl at Lucky Strike with a buncha fine dime brizzles for free. The, I'm hittig up Pinks on La Brea and Santa Monica. There, I will order a bacon chili cheese dog, swiss pastrami dog, and a large order of chili cheese fries. After that, I'll go home, order a large supreme pizza with buffalo wings. For dessert, I'll eat this lemon cake my sister baked for me plus throw in a large scoop of Cold Stones ice cream which the flavor is still undecided.

On Sunday, It's back to chicken breasts and salads. If I'm down to 168 by Wednesday, then my dieting for the week shall be a success.

yeah but having a BINGE DAY like you describe is a bit different from a cheat day!

i'm not dieting.. fuck that shit.. it aint like i'm eating loadsa junk..  but i'm working out.. and i'm having to rest as gym/skateboarding dont really mix.. take last weekend..

thurs - went out for a street skate for an hour n a half..

fri - went to a local indoor skatepark

sat -  went gym in the morning!
original plans that were fpr sat night were cancelled .. i didn't find out about till fri night.. so this meant i was free sat night.. last minute went 100 miles to a dope skatepark jam i'd been invited to with a car load (newport)

sun - drove half hour to a ramp in a lil ghetto town.. my legs were tired from the night before.. and this was my fourth day in a row skating.. i managed a few lil thangs.. but i've learned in the past that if they're tired my legs can give way..

so basically 4 days skating PLUS going to the gym. my legs were fucked for days.. I gotta regulate this shit.. but its hard!

Yesterday was my cheat day. They can be beneficial in a few ways. They can help you overcome a plateau sometimes. Yes it is almost impossible to keep to a strict diet. I love how all these ectomorphs come in here tha can eat 6000 calories and not gain weight. Its not the case for most people. I gain weight very easy and I'd rather be in shape then out of shape.

I don't like the sound of binge day. I'll just keep it cool and not restrict myself.

Cheat days are crucial.  If I'm trying to cut weight, I eat very well during the week.  Then I allow myself a bomb dinner on friday night followed by some booze.  I also allow myself a bomb breakfast and dinner on Saturday.  But back to reality on Sunday.  5.5 days of eating well & excerising gets me in very good shape.  But no way in hell I'd be able to keep it up without a break every week.

And I'm like most of yall, if I don't excerise and really watch what I eat, I put on weight hella easy.  My dad's side of the family are Italian and eating is what they do.  From the minute you walk in the house they're shovinig food at you.  And they're all overweight as well.  So it was real tough for me to break that cycle when thats what you do from the day you're born.  When I was a youngin I could do it no sweat and I was still skinny as a rail, but now that I'm older I can't do that shit.

Now excuse me while I go eat my cheese eggs, bacon, hash browns, toast, coffee, and milk.. ;D

It's even better if you have a "cheat meal" once a week. Imagine how much damage you can do if you decide to eat whatever for an entire day. I think it's key to not always have the same cheat day because you don't know what will come up in the future, like a friend's party or date, and you don't want to be stuck eating salad and drinking water instead of cake and beer.

Honestly I never had any damage when I;ve done that in the past. I still consistenly lost 2-3 pounds a week.

Back on track today, snacking has been difficult, getting real tired of eating nuts all the time for snacks, I need to find some more variation.

what i find the most difficult in a diet is not drinking any alcoohol, all my friends get drunk as fuck in front of me and i'm drinkin water and i'm in the club on the dance floor and i'm like wassup i'm not drinkin. I smoke weed now though, so i can't get fucked up in way still

A shot of liquor is only about 50 calories.

I tried to go on a semi-diet, but I stopped. I have to reevaluate becuase I ended up eating at Carl's Jr. once a week. I checked there nutrion info and the 6 Dollar Burgers have 1,000 calories in them. :-X Plus 200+ calories for the fries. :P
