I've started to learn producing/making beats. I'm working with an artist closely affiliated with Interscope, hes a young singer from Cali. He's fairly well known, and I have 3 tracks on his next album. Anyway, we just did a bangin track that needs a guest rapper/feature on, so I've hit up a few artists and sent a snippet of the record to them to see if they would drop a verse on the track. The prices I got back are fucked up, these old ass rappers haven't been relevant for years but still try and charge weezy prices lol..bare in mind we got Twista for $1K, and a duet with Monica for $1000...
DJ Quik - $10000
MC Ren - $4000
Xzibit - $15000
Tash - $2000
Rass Kass - $4000
Ice Cube - $25000
MC Eiht - $5000
E40 - $8000
Too Short - $15000
Mack 10 - $15000
G Malone - $2500
Crooked I - $5000
Yukmouth - $3000
Tha Realest - $3000
Big Syke - $3000
Mista Fab - $15000
Suga Free - $3500
Goldie Loc - $1500
Dresta - $1500
Menace from bws - $4000
40 Glocc - $8000
Kurupt - $4000
Gail Gotti - $3000
Spice 1 - $2500
Knocturnal - $4000
Kokane - $2000
Kam - $5000
Soopafly - $4000
Defari - $1500
Paris - $2500
Swoop G - $2000
There was a few more but basically I couldn't get anything for 1K.
-
Snoop charges like 50 grant.
-
If an artist working with Interscope came knocking at my door, I'd up my prices...
-
I think that Twista at 1K was a very, very good price seeing as he's still a big, recognizable name and he does nice verses too...
Here's what I think would be reasonable for each of these, based on how famous/well known the name is and also what sort of quality you're likely to get -
DJ Quik - $10000 $2500
MC Ren - $4000 $1500
Xzibit - $15000 $2000
Tash - $2000 $1500
Rass Kass - $4000 $1500
Ice Cube - $25000 tough one, because the name is so well known, I want to say $10000 as reasonable, but could be worth like $20000
MC Eiht - $5000 $1500
E40 - $8000 $3000
Too Short - $15000 $2000
Mack 10 - $15000 $1500
G Malone - $2500 $1500
Crooked I - $5000 $1500
Yukmouth - $3000 $1500
Tha Realest - $3000 $500
Big Syke - $3000 $1000
Mista Fab - $15000 $1500
Suga Free - $3500 $750
Goldie Loc - $1500 $750
Dresta - $1500 $750
Menace from bws - $4000 $750
40 Glocc - $8000 $750
Kurupt - $4000 $2000
Gail Gotti - $3000 $250
Spice 1 - $2500 $2000
Knocturnal - $4000 $1000
Kokane - $2000 $750
Kam - $5000 $1500
Soopafly - $4000 $1000
Defari - $1500 $750
Paris - $2500 $2000
Swoop G - $2000 $750
So I think Tash, Spice 1, and Paris were all pretty close already
-
MC Ren should be paying you to do a track ! or anyone for that matter
-
not long ago Crook was offering a deal for a 16 from him AND Royce for $1,500 but that offer is up
-
The artist I'm working with is not signed to Interscope, he's unsigned and never been signed. But he's done 2 hooks for 2 Interscope/Geffen artists. The artist this feature is for barely earns enough money from his day job to live so he has no budget. I'm the one fronting the money to pay for the feature.
Snoop and Snoops people didn't even hit me back with a price!
-
Sorry that's a lol UCC if you think an artist should write and record a verse for 500 or 750. These guys are still recognized names in the rap scene. I can't see why double those amounts sound too much considering even the sales of an emerging indi artist thats gonna be marketable anyway.
-
one of my good buddies just did a song with Kool Keith
i know it set him back financially for probably a good month or two lmao

Welcome to the game

Majority of those are over blown. lol That's just sad. Oh well I heard Dre Charges 250,000 for production of just 1 track. So who the hell knows lol. No wonder Game couldn't get Dre to do it, he'd lose all his money.
-

This. And you also have to consider with the artist being up and coming. Sometimes it is negoiations that go into it as well. They want to see how serious the artist is in doing biz as well.

I don't think they SHOULD do it for that amount, I'm just saying, logically, if I was doing an album, I wouldn't bother getting verses from some of those people, because only like 3 people are gonna know their name. Would you? What's the point in getting a Gail Gotti feature, she has a hard time getting featured herself (no diss, it's just she's obviously not very famous, so it's not going to make your project more appealing at all)
You'd just save a little more and get a name people properly know, like Twista
-
I know someone that got a Spice-1 verse for a G.
-
I know someone that got a Spice-1 verse for a G.
got a link?
-
I don't know if it's outrageous until you post comparative material of other artists.
I also doubt that these prices are set in stone, I heard a lot of rappers work with an 'eye for an eye' concept.
And they must go down for affiliated artists.
EDIT: I'd like to know what producers ask for a beat.
Like blasphemy said, I think dre asks about a quarter million.
And I remember hearing a story about Big pun having to give RZA 30K cash for a beat.
-
Snoop and Snoops people didn't even hit me back with a price!
Well, Justin posts here, so he might see this topic. But did you tell them your budget was around $1k? If so, they probably got offended that you would even think anyone from Snoop's roster would do something for $1k.
You might arrange discounted verses with the two Interscope artists your singer did hooks for. Or did you charge full price to those artists? What I'm saying is, have your singer do hooks for free with those Interscope artists in exchange for a reduced rate for what those artists will charge you for a verse. You might be able to get them to come down to $1k through good negotiations. Also, have your artist build up a little buzz on his own -- leak some stuff to the 'Net and get a good reaction, which will make (potentially) some rappers a little more willing to lay down a verse for him.
-
Lol @ somebody wanting a Snoop feature. IMO he's one of the worst feature rappers ever. Xzibit will give you a dope verse anytime, I can see why he's charging this money.
And for paying higher prizes for beats - if you got a banging beat you don't even need a good verse that bad, so that's reasonable.
-
This ain't accurate at all.
-
You gotta keep in mind they throw out high-ball numbers to see if you'll bite at that price, but in reality most of them would do a verse for way less than half of what they are originally asking if you approach them right. If you explain to them that you're a big fan, and it would be an honor to have them on your album but you are only working with X amount of money, most of them of will go pretty damn low when it comes down it. I've seen it first hand with 3 people on your list in fact. It's all about your approach. And if your music is good in the first place, that will make a big difference. You could also try and see if they'll cut you a deal if you let them use one of your beats or if they like your homie have him sing some hooks for free for them. You can't just look at that # and think "fuck, i don't have that much money." You gotta be creative.

Finally a good post that isn't Dre, Pac, or DPG related. Yea I agree with most some of these prices are crazy. The whole point, well maybe yours, is to get a "name" that can help sell a single right? 40 Glocc charging more than Kurupt?! I don't even know who Mista Fab is and I've been listening to the West Coast since the early 90s.
If I were you I'd try and negotiate, I doubt those prices are set in stone. For your budget I would definitely say Kurupt offers the most for your money. If you have more dough, I'd see who else has an album coming out so you can use that buzz for your artist.
If you do buy a verse, pay someone that at least has a major label album out so you know their name is recognizable. Well more than most of the others anyways... E40 seems reasonable too...
-

Some of these are completely understandable...like the OGs who were actually relevant back in the day. Cube, Too Short, etc. But some of them are like wtf considering few people outside forums like this know of them.
Anyways, it probably has to do with them not having a clue who your artist is. If I were a semi-famous rapper I wouldn't be dropping verses for just anyone.
-
Snoop and Snoops people didn't even hit me back with a price!

good post yell
-
At the end of the day, this is a business. These guys aren't looking to work for the lowest price possible so they can help some artist with a smaller name get recognition. They are trying to eat like everybody else. Some of them might hook you up from time to time but the reality is they have a name with value attached to it and they are trying to make it worth more, not less.
-

Your probably not gonna get 95% of those rappers for 1k or under. What is your budget max? I think some people had good ideas about trading hooks, being a fan, etc. Make sure it is a good song. Ask others what they think cuz your opinion is biased obviously.
But, like Jimmy H says, it is a business and everyone has to get paid.
Keep us updated, I would be interested in hearing how this works out...
On a sidenote...
"I sell game at a quarter million a track, Snoop and the good Doc, back wit a brand new track" -- The Wash OST, The Wash- Snoop and Dr. Dre
And that was about 10 years ago so who knows...
-
This ain't accurate. I've SEEN many of those names do way cheaper. And don't forget I manage Knocturnal. If U want a Knoc verse, I'm the one to contact.
-
Most of the prices are bullshit. These artist just throw numbers out there to try and rip off smaller artist. When Snoop told Mistah Fab to get on "Life of the Party" do you think he asked for $15,000?

Well than what are accurate prices? What have you see/
What is a ballpark cost for a Knoc verse?

I'm not just gonna put it out there unless someone contacts me about business, but I promise will give anyone a WAY better price than 4 G's for a Knoc verse..

I would give Gail Gotti $250, or she can get $500 for a verse + BLOWJOB

i wonder how much Butch Cassidy charges! You should try with him!

Out of all those rappers, which 1 could get him the most buzz? I mean, Goldie, Dresta and Defari are the closest at 1500 but would they generate good buzz or would it be like throwing your money away? I ain't never heard KAM spit a whack verse and he goes hard on features but would he be the best in getting the dude noticed more?

True, maybe its more since DUB C said "I'm gettin 20 thousand a show to skip across stage on my feet." 8)

To the dude who started this thread,
Where did you get all your pricing from? Most people here don't agree it is accurate at all... Did you make it up or guess? ???
-
Well I'm starting to think my links are charging extra on top? Which artists are inaccurate? Don't just say ALL are cause some came from the artist themselves. Tell me which is wrong and I will say who quoted me that price for that artist

I was told my the manager of Too Shorts label upallnitemusic.com/myspace.com/upallnitemusic that too short wanted 15K lol

it depends how u come at an artist. if they think u got label backing then yea they gonna ask for a grip. if u doin it indie u can work with em. most these cats u can get at reasonably if u approach em with money and just talk to em. get at tash too, he reasonable and he spits hot lines. just my advise
-
nobodys gonna buy a no names album for one completely random commercially irrelevant west coast og. your boy needs to focus on his own shit and putting out the best shit he can.

it not one of the single, its a old school gfunk vibe on some deathrow tip its album track we looking for that sound

well i'm surprised Paris' people even mentioned a price, as Paris rarely collaborates with artists outside his camp

If you're working on an actual full album with Dr. Dre, he charges a lot less than that. I'll reveal to you in PM's my source Dre-Day.

Do you seriously think 40 Glocc is not a good rapper? 40 shits on a lot of rappers that get discussed over here. If the answer to that question is yes, I think you need to hit the (http://www.dubcnn.com/connect/Themes/dubcc/images/english/logout.gif) button and never come back again. Or better yet, delete your account.
All 40 COCK is doing is running his muthafuckin' mouth and taking e-net gangbangin' to a whole another level with his stupid ass youtube videos - he should team with GAY 9 and SPIDER JOKE and log himself out of this world along with your sorry ass if you like this bum.

Sorry I picked up The Jakal, and although the beats were tite as fucc, 40 was like sandpaper on my ears.

It wasn't sarcasm (twice). I agree that he has a big mouth, but 40 Glocc is a rapper who doesn't need beef. He's got a lot of talent. Before 40 affiliated with G-Unit everyone on this forum liked 40 Glocc (which was before the endless beefing started), but ever since he joined G-Unit/Infamous all of a sudden people started to call him wack.
It's like they forgot songs like "Leave Me Alone", "40", "Got Damn Shame" and "Love Is A Battlefield". I don't like the beef either and no, I don't check for his newer music anymore, but this man is (potentially) a great rapper.
P.S. I figured '40 Cock' and 'Spider Joke' out, but who is 'Gay 9' supposed to be? lol

A full album with Dr Dre? How many times has that even happened?

That would be a cool collab to get, out of the ones listed... like it won't blow the project up, but it would be dope on a creative level

You can't just look at that # and think "fuck, i don't have that much money." You gotta be creative.
this sounds about right.

I wish you could detect his sarcasm...
P.S. I figured '40 Cock' and 'Spider Joke' out, but who is 'Gay 9' supposed to be? lol
K9 and your sarcastic. I don't believe it, Zipper. There's a better chance of Hoodstars.net coming back before I believe that crock of shit.

If you're working on an actual full album with Dr. Dre, he charges a lot less than that. I'll reveal to you in PM's my source Dre-Day.
A full album with Dr Dre? How many times has that even happened?
well i'm surprised Paris' people even mentioned a price, as Paris rarely collaborates with artists outside his camp
That would be a cool collab to get, out of the ones listed... like it won't blow the project up, but it would be dope on a creative level
yeah.

All that support the Westcoast is bullshit!! When u start callin these niggas 4 fearures u find that out quick..I find some R flexible but that a few outta many..No secret as 2 why the Westcoast fell off..U just spelled it all the way out!

spider loc sells verses in exchange for meals and a place to sleep

$15,000 for Mack 10?
haha ... drop the last 4 digits and that is what his verse is worth!
SERIOUSLY THOUGH ..
you need to go deeper ... don't email someone off myspace for a price!
present professionally, tell them what you want and get the price.
Then go back to them ... it is like any business out there
if the "worker" doesn't care or want it, they will quote a ridiculous amount and if u pay, great, if u don't, so what?
hope that makes sense!
-
1500$ to have a convicted pedophile on your song. That's not bad and would probably generate some buzz.

40 Glocc is wackk@

eastcoast-rappers got a bigger ego, and charges more than these guys.. Joe Budden charges 5 stacks for a verse.. better than a Mack 10 verse though lol

That's becuz Joe Budden knows his value. If you ask me he's over charging (and not just becuz of my personal taste). There isn't a rapper in the world that could benefit from a Budden's verse unless you get a direct face to face to phone to phone back to face to face contact with Slaughterhouse and Shady. Other than that your only putting money in Budden's pocket and not really reaping any benefits from it.
Mack 10's price is high but I'm sure the hustler will sell it to u cheaper than that, if not then don't get tha nigga on ur album/mixtape then (same for any of them).

I can't see Too Short charging 15k a verse, he does that many features every year i doubt he would be asking for that much.
-
Do you guys remember Bookie-Loc? He helms from AZ and he had album entirely produce by Battlecat in 1999. Well, he tried to get Snoop on there but he wanted 20k.. So it would surprse me if he is still charging in the high range for features after all of this years.
-
Let's ask Enyce how much Big Trey Dee charges for a verse. Oh wait, that Euroigger ain't around anymore to answer Hahahahahahaha!

$50 bucks on his books and accepting his collect call to spit the verse would probably be his standard fee. ;D

Again, that's probably the price they charge to drop a verse for some no-name artist they don't know, which isn't surprising at all. There's a different mentality out here in the bay when its among rappers who regularly associate with one another. I've heard of arrangements where they do the verse for free and just trade a feature for a feature.

Snoopy Blue-$500

Spider loc $1,000
If u r interested let me know and i can grt u incontact with them

To the thread-starter, have you tried getting in touch with that Noah Jones cat that posts here from time to time? He seems like he might be a good feature if you're looking for someone West Coast and he seems like he would be the kind of dude fuck with an up and coming artist. He worked with Knoc, Crooked I, and a couple other folks already.
-
like others have said, alot of people on that list should be paying to get on anyone's album
most of them aren't even relevant anymore except to people on this board
-

-
I wonder how much Bun B asks seeing how he's on EVERY BODIES record.
-
I've started to learn producing/making beats. I'm working with an artist closely affiliated with Interscope, hes a young singer from Cali. He's fairly well known, and I have 3 tracks on his next album. Anyway, we just did a bangin track that needs a guest rapper/feature on, so I've hit up a few artists and sent a snippet of the record to them to see if they would drop a verse on the track. The prices I got back are fucked up, these old ass rappers haven't been relevant for years but still try and charge weezy prices lol..bare in mind we got Twista for $1K, and a duet with Monica for $1000...
DJ Quik - $10000
MC Ren - $4000
Xzibit - $15000
Tash - $2000
Rass Kass - $4000
Ice Cube - $25000
MC Eiht - $5000
E40 - $8000
Too Short - $15000
Mack 10 - $15000
G Malone - $2500
Crooked I - $5000
Yukmouth - $3000
Tha Realest - $3000
Big Syke - $3000
Mista Fab - $15000
Suga Free - $3500
Goldie Loc - $1500
Dresta - $1500
Menace from bws - $4000
40 Glocc - $8000
Kurupt - $4000
Gail Gotti - $3000

Kokane - $2000
Kam - $5000
Soopafly - $4000
Defari - $1500
Paris - $2500
Swoop G - $2000
There was a few more but basically I couldn't get anything for 1K.
What about X.O , Clyde Carson ? the price might be alot lower
