Title: CHARLES HAMILTON - This Perfect Life [Album]
Post by: The-Leak (aka) kingwell (bka) JULES on May 23, 2009, 07:55:37 AM
UPDATE: CHECK SECOND PAGE FOR THIS PERFECT LIFE

Charles Hamilton.  A man on a major label.  A man signed without a song on the radio.  A man in charge of his own marketing and promotion.  A man who is 1 month away from releasing his "debut" album....  For free.

"This Perfect Life" is the debut studio album by American rapper Charles Hamilton (rapper). It will be the first album distributed by a major record label for free download on Charles Hamilton's own website, there will also be a physical copy that can be purchased in stores that will include a DVD of animated videos to help the listener get a better feel for the music. The album will be released digitally on June 23, 2009, though Charles stated on his blog that he just hopes the physical copy will be released by his birthday (November 10th). The album's first single will be "Barbara Walters". The album will most likely be produced solely by Charles, with little to no outside help. The sound will be like "everything you've come to love and hate about Charles Hamilton" as he stated in his blog. His previous album which was a digital-only release, "The Pink Lavalamp" was "his guide to living his life" and that "This Perfect Life" is his guide to everyone else's. He also stated that the title has quotation marks around it for a reason. The only guest appearances are Show TuFli and Crooked I.

TRACKLIST & SONG DESCRIPTIONS

"Barbara Walters" Insomnia, depression, getting over your problems by talking.

"Three Pound Bullet" Dealing with the "elephant in the room" factor.

"Ghosts" The paranormal paranoia.

"Post-Lynching Ceremony" -Racism

"All Alone" -Teen depression/suicide

"Cable in the Classroom" -A general response to the question "how".

"Baby" -The innocence in being an artist.

"Reminder" -Putting rage in perspective.

"Tears of Fire" feat. Crooked I -Saying goodbye to the pain that holds one back.

"Long Socks" feat. Show TuFli -The universal friendship bracelet for all people lucky enough to have one.

"Rosado" -A dedication to the color of life.

PL and Crash Landed are CH best mixtapes, they've got his best tunes on them, the rest of his mixtapes are kind of average, he releases sooooo many that they become almost a hassle to listen to in the end, like with Wayne ive got about 250 songs by CH, with only about 25 i ever listen to lool

'Shes so High' my fav CH tune by far and thats offa The Pink Lavalamp 8)

Charles is aight!  He's pretty fresh but has released sooo much music that's inconsistent in quality.  Majority of artists create a lot of music like him but only release the better stuff.  CH basically releases all of it.  The problem with this if you get a bad tape of his it dampens one's perspective of his entire output.  Brooklyn Girls was fiyah in my opinion.  It's clear that he really doesn't give a fuck what anyone thinks and is going to do his thing which I full heartedly support.  This Perfect Life is shaping up to be dope.

He claims he's working on:

Eminem's Relapse 2
Lupe Fiasco's L.A.S.E.R.S
Kanye West's Good Ass Job

And a bunch of other dope albums.  I'm wondering how much of this is true.

Quote
"I P on Rihanna. See man? I do what I wanna..."

The hardest Eminem line EVER.

EXPLANATION:

Rihanna has a song called "Push Up On Me". A dance track. She said "I wish you would push up on me".

Rihanna was also beat up on by Chris Brown.

And I have a stuffed Pink Panther that hangs from my arm. Named P.

So he can push up on Rihanna without hitting her, while giving props to his little brother.

Within less than half a bar.

Best line in Marshall Bruce Mathers ENTIRE RAP CAREER.

And we haven't even BEGUN to talk about Relapse 2.

SO... it looks like I'm a part of a FEW big projects this year... ghost or non-ghost...

The Slaughterhouse album
Detox
Relapse 2
We Are Lasers
Good Ass Job
(potentially) Blueprint 3

Did Charles Hamilton and 50 Cent really even have beef? Or has Charles Hamilton completely taken over Interscope and is subliminally promoting ALL artists?

Some more exciting news:

What Jimmy told me was to do my thing, and use the business to my advantage.

Interscope is used to a certain sound, as evidenced through the latest Em release ("Relapse"). The crystal clear, uncompressed sound, usually mastered by Dr. Dre (or Ron Fair) is what makes an Interscope album an Interscope album. Content and production wise, they LOVE "This Perfect Life" (much to the dismay of the email).

As far as sound quality, they don't understand it.

"This Perfect Life" was professionally mixed, but in the mastering, I did things a little bit different. Each song was ran into vinyl, before digitally remastering each vinyl-ly mastered song, before mastering the album together as a whole. So you hear actual dust from the record.

So it sounds a lot older than it really is.

Quite literally, you hear the needle drop on the record.

The point of me doing that is, the mainstream way of presenting music is getting old. Yeah I know, "Charles this mix sounds like crap." That's kinda the point. You have to LISTEN. The points I bring up with this album on every song go beyond the 30 second sound-byte of a ringtone. There are solutions to problems that we all face that need to be heard.

Or is that not what an artist is supposed to do?

Mind you, about 97% of all online "marketing" was handled by ME. Yes, management set up interviews, and a few admin "pulled some strings" to get me "some good opportunities." But as far as blogging, Twitter, Facebook and interacting with online journalists such as Illseed, Karen Civil, Miss Info, 2DopeBoyz, Nah Right, OnSmash, and several other popular urban sites?

Charles Hamilton.

Now if that's not going beyond the call of duty for a major label artist, then maybe there needs to be some BETTER protocol as to what an artist's requirements are.

Jimmy's concern is how a free download can translate into dollars and cents. Which in esSENCE, makes perfect SENSE. SINCE that is the concern, the actual concept of an album dropping for free as promoted by a major label is enough for mainstream attention, upon Interscope pressing "the go button" on media paying attention to me.

Until such time, I am a figment of your subconscious mind. A novelty being, only heard on the surface via "Brooklyn Girls".

He said it got mastered then he did some shit to get a vinyl sound to it.  By versions I mean non-vinyl mastered and then vinyl mastered.

According to His Blog which was finally updated for the first time in almost a month, a close friend of his states he is well and "going through a plethora of changes". This is the full entry.

Dear Concerned Fans,

Charles has been going through a plethora of changes both professionally and personally. He's watching and listening in the midst of learning how to smile again though, and we do ask for your patience and understanding during this time. He'll be back with new music and content as soon as possible. You are all loved and much appreciated. Thank you for all of your comments and overwhelming support.

I dig the production on it quite a bit.  For his first release and age I think it's pretty amazing.  Vocally when he raps he sounds good but his choruses are a crash chorus.  :(
I also think he possesses the ability to see trends which is essential for an artist that wants to stay relevant - he has techno-rap on here.

The album isn't the shit.  It's a decent debut.  I enjoy it and it makes me look forward to his future material that he takes the time rather than the shit that was rushed and released for free ... that is if there will be any.

Old school vibe beats with new school lyrical feelings.

This borders with Escape Route for album of the year.

Yeah Charles is one of those rappers where you either dig their voice or absolutely hate it.  Fortunately for me, I dig it.

The hooks are decent, I appreciate he's doing them himself.

The lyrics are above average, he barely cracks the upper echelon of "lyrical rappers" out there today, which is a small minority.  They are relateable too, (for me)

I think what really makes the album good is the limited number of tracks (aka only good songs)  and the mixing/mastering, that "Vinyl" sound he was talking about, it really does sound superb.

4/5 stars.

PS: I forgot about the beats, Charles can flip a MEAN sample..  Don't deny it, shit is classic on some of these productions.

"When I sample, I'm not just doing it to sound good. I'm trying to tell a story. To convey an emotion. If I sampled it, there is a reason I sampled it. I believe that music is based on moments, and that there are some moments that people may have missed back in the day. They may have even missed it a year ago. When I sample, I'm giving the artist their respect, while simultaneously creating something new."
