Las Vegas -- The city's neon lights vibrated in the polished hood of the black BMW as it cruised up Las Vegas Boulevard.
The man in the passenger seat was instantly recognizable. Fans lined the streets, waving, snapping photos, begging Tupac Shakur for his autograph.
The car, with rap magnate Marion "Suge" Knight at the wheel, was leading a procession of vehicles to a hot new nightclub. It was after 11 on a Saturday night -- Sept. 7, 1996. The caravan paused at a crowded intersection a block from the Strip.
Shakur, 25, flirted with a carful of women -- unaware that a white Cadillac had pulled up beside him. A hand emerged from the Cadillac. In it was a semiautomatic pistol, aimed at Shakur.
Six years later, the killing of the world's most famous rap star remains officially unsolved. Speculation continues to flourish in the music media and among Shakur's followers. One theory is that Knight, owner of Shakur's record label, arranged the killing so he could profit from the rapper's martyrdom. Another persistent legend is that Shakur faked his own death to escape the pressures of stardom.
A yearlong investigation by the Los Angeles Times reconstructed the crime and the events leading up to it. Evidence gathered by the paper indicates that:
The shooting was carried out by a Compton, Calif., gang called the Southside Crips to avenge the beating of a member by Shakur a few hours earlier.
Orlando Anderson, the Crip whom Shakur had attacked, fired the fatal shots. Las Vegas police interviewed Anderson only once, briefly. He was later killed in an unrelated gang shooting.
The murder weapon was supplied by Brooklyn rapper Notorious B.I.G., who agreed to pay the Crips $1 million for killing Shakur. Notorious B.I.G. and Shakur had been feuding, exchanging insults on recordings and at concerts. B.I.G. was gunned down six months later in Los Angeles. That killing also remains unsolved.
Before they died, Notorious B.I.G. and Anderson denied any role in Shakur's death. This account of what they and others did that night is based on police affidavits and court documents as well as interviews with investigators, witnesses and members of the Southside Crips. Fearing retribution, they agreed to be interviewed only if their names were not revealed.
The slaying silenced one of modern music's most eloquent voices -- a ghetto poet whose tales of urban alienation captivated young people of all races and backgrounds. Shakur, who grew up in tough areas of New York and Baltimore, had helped elevate rap from a street fad to a complex art form.
But he never put what he called the "thug life" behind him. While serving a 41/2-year term in New York for sexual assault, he was visited by Suge Knight, founder of Death Row Records. Knight offered to finance an appeal if Shakur would sign a recording contract. Shakur accepted and was released in 1995 on a $1.4-million bond. Hours later, Shakur entered a studio to record "All Eyez on Me."
The double CD sold more than 5 million copies, making Shakur a superstar.
On Sept. 7, 1996, Shakur, still out on bond, traveled to Las Vegas for a championship boxing match between Mike Tyson and Bruce Seldon at the MGM Grand Hotel. The arena was jammed with high rollers and an assortment of underworld and street-gang figures. Shakur, accompanied by armed bodyguards from the Mob Piru Bloods, a Compton street gang, sat in the front row with Knight.
After the fight, one of Shakur's bodyguards noticed a member of the rival Southside Crips lingering near a bank of elevators. The man was Orlando Anderson, 21, a Crip who had recently helped his gang beat and rob one of Shakur's bodyguards at a mall in Lakewood, Calif. The Bloods had been fuming for weeks, waiting to exact their revenge. Now, unexpectedly, there was Anderson, standing before them.
Shakur charged the Crip. "You from the South?" he asked. Before Anderson could answer, Shakur punched him. His bodyguards jumped in, pounding and kicking Anderson before security guards broke up the 30-second melee.
Shakur and his entourage stomped triumphantly out of the hotel, planning to regroup later at a benefit concert for a youth boxing program featuring Shakur and other Death Row acts at Club 662.
News of the beating swept through the gang underground. Anderson set up a meeting with more than a dozen gang members at the Treasure Island hotel. According to people who were present, the Crips decided to shoot Shakur after his performance.
For the Crips, the beating of Anderson was an affront warranting fatal retaliation. Still, the Crips thought, why not make a little money at it? They decided to ask Shakur's biggest enemy -- Notorious B.I.G., whose real name was Christopher Wallace, -- to pay for the hit.
Wallace had been prodding the gang to kill Shakur -- and promised to pay handsomely. On Sept. 7, 1996, the Crips took him up on the offer.
The Crips sent an emissary to a penthouse suite at the MGM, where Wallace was booked under a false name. People who were present said the envoy explained that the gang was prepared to kill Shakur for $1 million. Wallace agreed, with one condition, a witness said. He pulled out a .40-caliber Glock pistol and placed it on the table. He wanted the satisfaction of knowing the fatal bullet came from his gun.
A white Cadillac carrying four Crips headed toward Club 662. It was followed by an older yellow Cadillac driven by one Crip with an AK-47 assault rifle.
The driver of the first car saw a caravan of vehicles, carrying Mob Piru Bloods and Death Row employees, stopped at a red light across from the Maxim Hotel. Leading the convoy was Knight's black BMW. Shakur was in the passenger seat. He and Knight were alone in the car, unarmed. The Crips decided not to wait.
The white Cadillac raced up beside the BMW. Bullets shattered its windows. Four bullets shredded Shakur's chest.
The white Cadillac screeched around the corner. A bodyguard in the Death Row caravan fired at it. In a ruse designed to confuse Shakur's entourage, the Crip in the yellow Cadillac chased the white car around the corner, as if in hostile pursuit.
Las Vegas police were soon on the scene. After summoning an ambulance for Shakur, they ordered everyone else in the convoy out of their cars at gunpoint. By the time detectives figured out that Knight and his caravan were victims, not suspects, the Crips were leaving town.
The Los Angeles Times is a Tribune Co. newspaper.

I always had thought Biggie killed Pac...
-
Holy shit....
-
damn........first thing im gonna do is pick up the paper tomorrow!!!
i thought it was just b.s. but www.latimes.com has it posted! :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
-
Damn... I wrote about it a month ago... and at the time it was so unthinkable... B-Please chose not to post it... which I figured 'cause I didn't even completly believe it myself. But check the other post about this. Peace.
-
I just found out. Crazy shit.
What goes around comes around I guess :-/
-
This is crazy!
-
Damn, this is no rumor....it's confirmed.....
-
Man, Everytime I read that, I'm reminded at how amazing of a lyricist Biggie was. Best ever, in my opinion, even above Pac.
-
Biggie aint shit compared to Pac......fuck that fat mother fucker. I was a Biggie fan too [though ive always been a bigger Pac fan], until I read this shit.......ive lost all respect for him......
-
I'll admit it, when Tupac was alive, I was a true dickryder! lol! When Pac said Fuck Bad Boy or fuck that, I was like fuck it then too! And when I heard that Pac been shot and shit, I was like them fuckin East coast bitches did it, I hope Suge gets em! And then that 1 day came when I heard Biggies fat ass had died. I was so happy, but at the same time I felt bad about it, I mean I gotta be 1 sick fuck to feel happy about someone dying. Over the years shit changed, the row broke up and everyone was like ....Suge did it! I didnt know what 2 think, all I know was rap was starting to suck and there was no more westcoast unity. It was real sad, and still iz. Only over the last couple years I started listening to Biggies shit, I mean Ive heard it, but never really bumped it cuz I was like fuck Bad Boy ya know.
Its funny,it took all these years for me to finally give Biggie his respect. But if all this shit is true.........it will only take 1 minute to loose it! Then I 'll be like..........."FUCK BIGGIE, FUCK BAD BOY AS A STAFF, RECORD LABEL AND A MUTHAFUCKIN CREW! AND IF U WANNA BE DOWN WITH BADBOY,THEN FUCK U 2!!!.............WE BADBOY KILLAZ!!!
RIP TUPAC SHAKUR
-
WOW, this shit is huge. They got it on tha web site for ny newsday 2. damn, i dunno. they say he was in vegas, but a 6'1, 780 pounders jus dont go unoiticed in vegas, but anything is possible
-
Man, Everytime I read that, I'm reminded at how amazing of a lyricist Biggie was. Best ever, in my opinion, even above Pac.
I don't know... I was feeling Bomb First... great lyrical diss... that's what I think won 'Pac the battle on wax... but wax never mattered 'cause of all the street B.S., it really took away from what was the 2 best ever go at it lyrically.
-
Biggie aint shit compared to Pac......fuck that fat mother fucker. I was a Biggie fan too [though ive always been a bigger Pac fan], until I read this shit.......ive lost all respect for him......
I knew some people would feel like this... and I guess I understand why.. Lives were taken..
It just trips me out though.. how can you like Gangsta Rap but you dont like Gangsta Shit. Cuz after all.. Biggie never really talked shit.. while 2pac ran his mouth.. and behind tha scenes.. Biggie was actually doing tha shit that 2pac was rappin about.. they're both dope though.. i aint losing no respect for either one.. it's just street shit.. that aint really neseccary, but it happens.
-

True... very true. Though 'Pac did some shit, never this large. Biggie though was streets as it gets. There's video of him in the late 80's in Juveniall Hall talking about issues that deal with teens and growing up broke. 'Pac was always the one that grew up broke, but wanted to change things. In the end, two simular backgrounds, the same result, 'cause when you leave the streets, you never can get away.

Let me say a few things.....
Ive been a Pac fan for a long time now, since MATW came out....I like Pac for his music and poetry, not his image. Even though he's my fav artist ever, I hate the ignorant Pac fans who act all hard in their rides, throw up W's, and shout westside. Shit is mad ignorant. I listen to Pac for his message, not because he was hard or because he had beef with anyone.
Second, I dont really consider Pac to be a gangsta rapper. A gangsta rapper is someone like Snoop......Pac was far too diverse and articulate to be labled simply as a gangsta rapper, or even a rapper period. He was far more than just a rapper.....he was a poet, and a revolutionary. I DID like Big's music, and always have. But after reading this shit, Ive lost all respect for him, and I dont know if I can listen to his music anymore without thinking about this shit.........

PLEASE SCAN THE ARTICLES FOR THE GERMAN FANS! THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!
-
That article was a shock. Ive never believed that Biggie was connected with Pacs death, but then again, what evidence does the article contain? none at all, its just old stuff thrown together. so thers no real proof about it, ppl belive it cause its the LA times. Im sure they must hav proof, but ill wait untill tomorrow. they will probably report some interesting points
-
OMG! :o
Well i had my suspicions like everyone, didnt think it would be true! damn! RIP Pac! ;).. so now the death of B.I.G is yet to be unraveled!
Peace -- Indecisive!

I ain't believin' this shit, no matter what paper it's in. Why? 'Cause they don't say a word about how they came to this conclusion!!! Maybe in the second article they will though, (it says at westcoast2k that it's a 2 piece story), but if they don't tell their (or some other "mysterysolver's") conclusions in the second piece either, we still don't have anything solid on Pac's murder. They just refer to "sources" and shit, that's what everybody's been doin' who previously "solved" Pac's murder!
-
I don't see why people are saying this isn't true. There are A LOT of fishy parts to this story as of now... but I would be very willing to guess that more information will be revelaed tommrow.
There is a HUGE difference between what the LA times did and what people do at home analyzing books and lyrics and what not...
This reporter won a Pulitzer prize for beat reporting. This means he knows what he is doing, knows how to track down leads, knows how to get in contact with people others can't. He knows how to investigate every aspect to a story etc etc etc...
This is being reported on CNN as we speak. This IS Proof, and this is a credible source.
http://www.cnn.com/2002/SHOWBIZ/Music/09/06/rapper.slaying.ap/index.html
-
This isn't that exclusive. There have been theories like this going around the net linking 'Pac's death to the crips & Biggie for some time. This guys 'theory' is just a little more detailed, and without hard evidence thats all it is, another theory.
-
well this is the thing..... this is the first time anythings been taken seriously, and like engelwood said.. this guy is no ordinary newshound.. he has credibility.
-
Good point Engelwood
However we still need more proof than just somebody writing it down
I know he is awarding winning journalist & most likely he is truthfull. However many journalists have been known to lie or exaggerate things when they are out of stories to run. We need more proof, or better yet, a police investigation into all this to see if its true
I am shocked at all these & i find it all, mainly Biggies suposed part in this murder to be to much of like a movie script material to be true, but you know sometimes movies just happen to be based on true incidents
-
THIS SHIT IS HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a legacy man. A story of legend. I'm going to be telling this story to my kids. This is the biggest story of musical history, ever!!!!!!
Pac will forever fullfill his prophecy and be a legend. Breathe in the dead. He is truly immortalized!!!!!!
-
But how come I've never heard before of Biggie being in LA that night? Did anyone report that previous to this? Wouldn't that of been known?
-
^^ seems to be the #1 question
another odd thing..... they've said that 3 other people + the guy in the car behind are still alive.
they didnt actually say orlando pulled the trigger... yet
-
But how come I've never heard before of Biggie being in LA that night? Did anyone report that previous to this? Wouldn't that of been known?
yeah thats what IM sayin, if he was really there, why did they just find out that Biggie was in Vegas when Pac got shot? No one reported that before this. If big was in Vegas that night it would have been known.
and the other thing is him promising a million dollars? why pay the crips the money even though they are going to do it anyway
-
well this is the thing..... this is the first time anythings been taken seriously, and like engelwood said.. this guy is no ordinary newshound.. he has credibility.
It's being taken seriously by people because it's being reported on the biggest news channels and in the biggest newspapers, peoples most reliable sources, but still nothing is that new. Does this guy actually care about who killed 'Pac or is he just thinking about the things he can get from it like recognition and exposure? He might be credible but it's like 'Pac said himself, 'the media is full of dirty tricks'.
I'm not counting these events completely out, if this is the truth then it's good that it's finally coming out, but this guy could also be misleading us, there's no hard evidence which means no arrests yet, and thats a bit fishy considering this guy claims to have so much evidence and factual material.
-
the article says that big had previously been on contact with, and soliciting those crips to do it... from biggies perspective they had just changed their minds, he might not have found out about the orlando/pac scufflle until later... maybe he thought they'd (the crips) wiped themselves out in vegas and needed some fast cash.
-
That whole gun belonging to Biggie, that has me for sure. The L.A. Times is creditable as fuck, and wouldn't make up bullshit, even 6 years later when basically no one would think about it. I've read it on the offical webpage, (got a SN there for Laker news :) ) and it's really detailed. Can't wait until tomorrow, police time.
And the Crip theory of Biggies death, that was the original one. I remember that the day after Biggie died, and at first it was the main theory. Later the Rolling Stones article was the main theory, now who knows.
-
shiiiiit.....
-
I don't know its hard to believe. I have only read what was posted on the forum so far and not the article at the website yet. The rolling stone article 2 years ago had a lot of information and sources, but I am just gonna wait until part 2 comes out. Crazy shit though.
-
imo this article has absolutely no substance, no evidence and no new facts. what an awful piece of work...and i dont believe it for a minute.
if u want to hear a more convinsing argument get the dvd "Biggie & Tupac" by Nick Broomfield. Thats got some good shit on it.
-
i...along with everyone else should be thanking suge for taking revenge and wacking biggies fat ass >:(....this pisses me off...fuck biggie....and fuck puffie too...he had to know about this...and at the vmas the one year he was sending shout outs to pac..fuck him...
-
do you really believe that Puffy lol would be involved in shit like this?! he's a business man and a damn succesful one at that, would he risk getting his skinny ass thrown in prisson? i doubt it! He's not a dumb fuck gang banger with no shit to loose.
And when it comes down to it d'you think biggie is the type of man that would put a price on someones head? he was comming up big at the time, he loved his mom, pac was once his friend..all that was really going on was a petty beef that he didn't even want to be dragged into. biggie was brought up well, he left home at 20, and had a very stable upbringing in a nice house...and not how he made out in juicy...as his mom said "that was his alterego".
i dont believe either pac or biggie would wish death on the other.
-
I heard about it; I won't just consider it official unless they come up with proof, but working on the principle that this is true...
:o :o :o
Not that I am that much surprised, but to me the Anderson theory yet didn't include Biggie. I was undecided and didn't know which of all those theories to believe, I didn't know whether any of them was really true, but this shit is pissin me off...so to speak Biggie deserved to die :-/. I don't think Pac would've ever had arranged the killing of Biggie, even though that beef wasn't like Jigga and Nas or sumthing.
-
Mmh dont really care, but Im sure it aint Biggie
-
Maybe Tupac already had something set up that in the event of his death, a contract was already placed on Biggie...who knows? I don't know exactly what kind of evidence everybody is looking for, but what do you expect? The L.A. Times is a credible news source, like the reporter. They would not put that shit in there purely for speculation, or else they would have said "it is just a theory". What kind of evidence can be presented in a newspaper? If they come out with hard facts, people still won't believe it because they'll say that the reporter made them up. This information comes from gangmembers or whoever who probably are not going to disclose their name, so there is no way for us (the public) to know if this information is true. I for one believe this information IS true.
-
Da-Da-Da-Da Daaaaaaaam!
Shit, in all the interviews Biggie always played the defender...he said he never understood why Pac had so much animosity towards him. Now we find out he hated him so musch he payed 1 Million dollars to kill him.
How do you think Afeni Shakur feels about this, and Biggie's Mom, Voletta? Hate?
I had to post again! :o :o
-
if he did do it.... i'm chalking this one up as another theory now.
-
This is crazy.
I donno what to think but I'm leaning towards this 'theory'.
I wish they had evidence.
-
boy, what a surprise. that fat f#@k had something to do with pac's murder. never would have guessed it, especially after he basically set him up in New York a few years earlier. i guess if you're no match for someone and he's making a fool of you day after day, just have him killed.
-
i'm chalking this one up as another theory now.

if big had paid the crips to kill Pac then for him to be in Vagas at the time of the murder is the most stupid thing ever. I know if I had someone kill one of my enemies I would want to be at least half way across the world having like a party with alot of people there so I have got like 100 odd allabys. I mean this shits dumb, we got no proof, just cos someone is writijg this dont mean its true. The only way we are ever guna find out the real answer to all this madness is and I stress this is the only way, THE WORLD BECOMES LIKE LIAR LIAR and everyone has to tell the truth, and thats it.
The truth will never come out unless people start telling the truth and lets be honest say if you where puff and you knew your best friend had paid one of the hardest gangs in the world to kill one of the most loved rappers in the world then I dont think too many of us would be saying OH yer he didnt that. Fuck na we wud be doing the same as him and every single other person involved in this madness, from police to gang memebers, from bad boy to deathrow, Keeping are mouths shut.
I tell you what the the 2pac autopsy pic which I have heard from so many people its real and then so many people its fake. If that pic was real and it leaked then there would not of been just the 1 pic taken there would of been loadsss from different angles and pics of his face and shit and the wounds, and tatoos and shit. That would be a great help for a start because at least that would shut up all the people saying he is still alive in Jamacia with Bob Marlet. They need to be released.
-
read the article...says he was there under an another alias....and money will buy you about anything in vegas...so it could have been easily done...he wasnt expecting anyone to find out he was in vegas
-
Like I said...They should strap puffy onto a Lie detecor test...
-
Word to the lie detector test. He defimnitely got something to do with it.
-
WOW words can't express how shoked I am. :o...A guy leaves for a week and look what happens.
I guess some evidence has yet to be presented, but the fact LA Times published it really makes me tend to believe...daym...still makes me wonder why would someone as tallented as BIG try murder his rival.
-
Like I said...They should strap puffy onto a Lie detecor test...
I am sure all of you know lie detectors mean fuck all. People have had them done like twice and it has come on yes on one and no on the other. Its all about nerves and heart rate and shit. If you keep your cool when the questions are asked to you then you can pass easy.
If Puffy knew he had a lie detector test I am sure he cud hire some one to train him up for it. ANd he wud pass it easy. The only way to get the truth out of sum 1 is to beat it out of them, he shud be kidnapped, blindfolded taken to a warehouse, beated up until the truth is beaten out of him. Puffy shud be beaten to the verge on death, make him squel like a pig. I am sure he wud rather stay alive than keep a secret.
-
Basically what the article is saying is that BIGGIE GOT HUSTLED by the South Side Crips. ORlando Anderson was gonna kill 2pac anyhow. The crips had connections with Biggie so they asked him if he would like 2pac dead and Biggie said he will pay 1 million dollars for it. OH yea , how come alot of people continually see Puffy as an innocent man. U KNOW DAMN WELL is caugh up in some shit, as a matter of fact hes always into some shit. So please people dont look at Puffy and say "pussy" when he is prolly the smartest criminal around. and another thing people be prasing GANGSTA RAp and when somebody did something HARD u guys critize him. and those are the same people who critize a rapper for "wanting" to be hard. 2Pac jumped Orlando , he had it coming. SOrry to say. Thats just the rules of life sometimes. so yea BIGGIE GOT HUSTLED for 1 million dollars
-
so javi u mean its cool when u beat up somebody , and
later hes killing u.
The article looks like the reporter was sittin in the white cadi.
I mean all this little details, like the driver was smokin a cigarate .
RIP Tupac Shakur
-
yo javi, they didn'T ask biggies opignion about killin pac, they would have done it anyways, they just wanted money to do it, but they take the chance to tell one of the best pac'S friend so, biggie was once one of the best pac friend, and if the crips would have said , hey yo bigg , gave us 1 millions and pac disapear, biggie could have contact pac and say " watch ya man , they wanna kill you" or some, plus the thing that derange me now it the fact that pac once again wasn't wearing no bulletproof :-/ maybe he known bout dat.... anyways i agreed the crips may have kill pac but biggie wasn't on this

Nah..cause if biggie did tell pac..then the crips would go after biggie for snitching...and Pac Always wore a bullet proof vest Except one night..which he got shot ..peace

Piggie (no typo!) is guilty of killing our generation's biggest rapper, poet and revolutionary!
I knew it when I heard about Pac beeing killed;
I still know it!
I cant lose any respect for that fat bitch, cause I've already lost it years ago (the first shooting)
For me it is no surprise that they finally found out the truth.
Piggie and Pooh Diddy did pay that fucking Crip to shoot because they wanted to get rid of Pac, as he was, is and will always be better than the whole Bad Girl Bitches together.
Pac sold more Records so they wanted to eliminate him.
But they lost!!! All the 2Pac fans out there will keep his records better sold than Pooh's, Piggie's and all the other wannabe Thugs!!!
Props to Tha Row, WCC, Doggystyle

Why O Why Did Snoop dogg say that Suge killed Pac Er... any1 remember Rolling Stone article?
and Puffy dropped by Arista just at the same time this came out? Cocindence ?I don't think so ....
My opinon .. u will all need to hear the hard fact s from a trusted person from the FBI or whatever ... bcoz all of your idols at the end of the day are nothing mre but ex gang memebers .. eg: scumbags, criminals and murderers ....
