Well, I started break dancing in '83-84, then it morphed into the hip-hop scene from there on out, so you do the math. ;)

You know I have to my two-cents in on this and bring the Dangerous Crew into this discussion..in their prime, I'd put them up against anybody
Production: Ant Banks, Pee-Wee, Shorty B, Sean G, Tony T
Lyricists: Too $hort, Spice-1, Rappin' Ron, Ant Diddley Dog, Fatha Dom, Goldy
But I also have to go with the OG Lench Mob:

Damn, gotta go w/ Chad on both of his selections. Juice Crew comes to mind first, but when you factor in DOC and ATL w/ NWA, that's pretty unfuckwitable too.
Hilltop Hustlers (E.S.T., Chuck Nice, DJ Woody Wood, Cool C, Steady B)
3x Dope are one of my all time favs. Wasn't DJ Jazzy Jeff down with them as well? Woody Wood has Rap Explosion all the time on XM. I listen to it constantly.

E.S.T. was an MC's MC. He was dope as hell.
Yes, 3X Dope was a great group.

The Furious 5.... not only were they the first "rap" crew...they are the only one's inducted in to the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. After them come the Cold Crush Brothers for being the real people behind Rappers Delight.
Without them, none of the crews mentioned would've even existed.
