Title: Stat Quo Interview: Compton Was Wack, Dre's Vault, Shady/Aftermath Experience
Post by: me1 on February 07, 2017, 05:12:50 AM
Posted this here (not Outbound) because the content is so Dre/Aftermath heavy.

This is a great watch. Commit 55 minutes to the whole thing.

No one from Dre's inner circle has gone where he goes with respect to critique of Compton, discussing the Shady label's affinity for corny singles (basically why Obie dropped and Stat didn't: Stat objected to a Got Some Teeth type opening track), discussing some of the contents of Dre's vault and directly comparing to Compton (Favorite song is My Diary from Compton which is basically telling us Dre's got 100s of songs on that vibe), etc. Touches on some of the songs in the Dre vault that I hadn't been aware of (joint with Bono, for example; an incredible Em/Nate song)

I don't know Justin Hunte personally but he gets some great interviews over there at DX. This is one of them.

Yup, it was hilarious listening to Dre rap ''I was a starving artist, that's why I would never starve an artist'' and thinking ''Wait a minute, how many people were signed to your label and NEVER put out an album, sometimes not even a song''. The whole album was very forced, but I've been saying this since it dropped so nothing new

Wouldn't mind a white russian right now.

The thing that sucks is that shit isn't ever seeing the light of day. It's not like when Dre passes his estate will want to cash in and put some music out. They wont need or want the dough. What they'll want is to preserve his legacy and they'll be programmed (like Dre is now) to think that music isn't good enough to put out.

When did anybody on Aftermath ever complain about not getting paid though? "Starving" has more to do with whether they were paid and less to do with whether their album came out. The way I understand how it works at Aftermath is the artists and producers are basically on salary (like $150-200k/yr I think I heard) with benefits and they just have to show up to the studio and work like it's a 9-5. Nobody that was signed to Aftermath was starving while they were there unless they were terrible at managing their money.

As for albums not coming out, Stat Quo blames himself in this interview for his album not coming out and I've heard King T also blame himself for his album not coming out.

the sad truth

yeah that was hilarious lol dude thought just because the whole Shady/Aftermath/G-Unit camp was killing it at that time he automatically was entitled to a check like that and it was a sure thing

I swear I read in an interview after he left Aftermath that he said he had 100's of songs from when he was at Aftermath and had permission to release them and was planning on doing so. Not sure if that ever happened.

there was a Dre produced joint on one of his albums post-aftermath, so maybe he does

He only put out one? Damn, in this interview he said there were 300-400. That number seems unrealistic but I was hoping for more than one.

He had a lot of Dre produced joints "get low" , "that way it be", "here we go" all quality Dre beats but they never blew.  I'm thInking because they were all in da club-ish... Dre and 50 even dropped a few bangers that went unoticed "I get it in", "ok alright", "smoke". Seems Dre stays loyal to them

Interesting thing about stat is that my favorite joint of his was the mixtape one they put out called Future right when he signed...him going raw over one of the better Dre beats from that era. Just an unforced tradk they did.

Must have been confusing AF for him joining that label. Em, Fif pushing incredible units. Diamond units. And he's got Em pushing the corny album rollout in one ear, Dre pushing for the club songs.

And as he alluded to in the interview, as an artist he himself didn't really establish an identity. He wasn't a thug, he wasn't an MC in the classic sense, he was trying to be all things to all people. He didn't stay in the lane he had created for himself prior to signing.

him and em are partners.
Fans eager for an update on an upcoming Slaughterhouse album were hit with grim news this week when New Jersey rhymer Joe Budden revealed that there is one particular album from Slaughterhouse that won’t ever see the light of day.
During his “I’ll Name This Podcast Later” podcast, the Slaughterhouse rapper revealed that a previously recorded album featuring unreleased tunes from the Hip Hop super-group won’t be made public.
To add even more salt to the wounds of Slaughterhouse fans, Budden revealed that the project features the best Joell Ortiz verse he’s ever heard in his life.
“That album’s never seeing the light of day … For all of you people that keep wanting a music update, here it is,” Joe Budden said. “That Slaughterhouse project, you’re not getting it … It’s some shit on there. Unfortunately, the best Joell verse that I have ever heard in my entire life is on this album that y’all are never gonna hear. That’s fucked up.”
Budden added that the project is “dark” and “depressing,” and is something even he wouldn’t want to listen to.
“I wanted to take a few of them records … The entire group was in such a dark space when we recorded all of that music,” he said. “It’s a very dark, depressing. I don’t even wanna hear any of that shit. I don’t even rap like that. I don’t wanna rap like that. We would have to record all new verses to put that project out.”
The rapper later provided additional clarification on his comments about the now-buried project, via Twitter.
“No, Joe Budden said THAT PARTICULAR SH ALBUM W 5 YEAR OLD VERSES is never coming out,” he tweeted in response to a news story about his Slaughterhouse album remarks.
Budden’s reveal serves as the heartiest update fans have received in regards to Slaughterhouse, who last dropped a studio album in 2012, given that the rest of the group has remained relatively silent when it concerns the group and any new music.
Last month, KXNG Crooked did make the following request on Twitter: “No more Slaughterhouse questions for me in 2017 ok?”
The West Coast MC added another twist to the story as he quoted our tweet, saying the “grim news” is perhaps “alternative facts.”
Listen to Joe Budden’s “I’ll Name This Podcast Later” show talking about an old Slaughterhouse album below.

Didn't know Joe said this recently, but it's a real shame that it's not dropping. And it's not like Shady is a label where shelved albums just mysteriously leak out one day either......
