Currently I'm driving a '94 Volkswagen Golf (secondhand car, this being my first ride), and I'm hoping I'll be able to drive it a few more years. However, I'm already gathering info for when I'll be buying my next car: checking out car websites, comparing prices, etc... and I need some advice from the good folks at WCC.
I'm a tall guy (1M 98 / 6' 5") so I'm looking for a comfortable ride, because the one I have right now sucks balls for real. My head reaches the sunroof, even with my car seat brought down to the lowest level possible. There's also not much space for my legs, my knees nearly touch the steering wheel, etc...I'm used to it by now, but it still feels uncomfortable and unsafe.
This being said, I was wondering if any of you guys could give me some tips on what cars are very comfortable.
Getting an SUV is the easy way out of course, but I'm not interested in getting one of those big Volvo/Volkswagen/ or any other kind of SUV's. Not just because of the environment issue, but also - and most importantly - because of its gas tank. Shit's expensive as hell...
So, I'm not looking for an SUV. Also, I don't think that people on here who are from the U.S. will be able to help me out, since most cars you guys have out there are not available in Europe.
I'd like to keep the price tag below 20,000 or 25,000 euros (= $34.000) Secondhand or not, doesn't make a difference to me. Preferrably a new car though.
Since a few weeks, I've had my eyes on the 2007 Opel Astra or Vectra, but I'm not sure yet. Feel free to give me some suggestions.
Thanks in advance!

6'5 holy fuckk hahaha, damnnn man. Go buy urself a g35, those are hella nice, like 40 grand, or a CTS thats around 35-40 aswell, or a 350z man, i dont know, those are Canadian prices, should be cheaper in the States lol!!!

I just browsed the American Infiniti website for the G35 sedan. Damn, what a nice car! Price is reasonable too for what you get in exchange. However, and this was again no surprise to me, this model is not available in Belgium. The only Infiniti car we have around here is the FX SUV. I fucking hate this. We don't even have the Nissan Skyline around here (which is basically the same car). Sure, I could import it, but that's another few grand on top of that...grrrrrr >:(
Nice ride though! Thanks for the suggestion. Any more (that are available in Europe if possible)?

Keep shit luxurious and get yourself an LS-430. If you're looking for something under 34 G'z, then jump into an 03-04 one. I don't really have to say much about the ride, juz pay your local dealership a visit and experience that shit yourself.

I just bought a G35 in May, I fuckin love it. Great technology inside, fast as fuck at about 310 hp, and comfortable as hell - i just drove it 3000 miles round trip and loved every minute of it. I'd highly recommend that - but if it's not available, I think that fx35 is a nice whip too, and probably a bit more suitable for a dude your size. Not sure about the mileage.
You might check for an Acura Type S, that's a high quality ride that should fit in your price range too.

Buy a truck then, Explorer or someshit, aint to pricey!!!
-
im 6'2 and I have a 2005 Nissan Altima and it has a load of room in there.
-
When I was over there, every car I saw was small, except for the more high-end sedans (the BMWs and Mercs) and of course the SUVs (Land Rovers, mostly, some of those BMW ones, too). Maybe I'm wrong, but I kinda have the feeling that unless you're willing to pay for something like that (and I know how pricey those cars are...they're even more expensive here), you're pretty much fucked. The majority of the cars you have over there (Vauxhalls, Opals, VWs, Smartcars, etc.) are small, as best I can tell.
I'm also fairly tall (6'1"), and I have a 2002 GMC Yukon which is quite roomy, but since I go broke paying for the gas nowadays, I usually just bike to work (not a big deal given the distance) or take the bus.

fuck that shit
get a bike
i got a yamaha R6s shits clean
im only 6'1 and its not uncomfortable at all

Exactly. Only a handful of cars here in Europe sit comfortable (Mercedes, Volvo, Chrysler and Cadillac are the ones that come to mind. But that's not exactly near my price range. Not even BMW sits well for a guy like me. My neighbours drive a BMW 3 Series sedan and I just don't feel at ease while driving it).
@ Jrome: I checked out the Acura TSX series. Looks pretty good, although it's very familiar to the BMW series in my opinion.
@ Tommy Fits: that Altima has got me interested. Really digging that one...thanks for the heads-up. Yet again, they don't have this model in Europe >:(
Nissan used to have some nice models around here about 5 - 8 years ago. I don't know why they decided to change up (probably a different CEO for Nissan Europe, I guess). I mean, seriously...go to Nissan.be and check out their sedans. Pieces of shit, straight up. Nobody drives those cars around here except elderly people for some reason. Is that the market they're aiming at? Can't be true...
I know I said in my other post that I'm not gonna import a car, but hell...after looking at those Infinitis and Nissans, I'm really starting to consider it right now. I'll save some more money in the next few years (hopefully my Volkswagen doesn't break down in the meantime) and I'll probably get me one of those American models.
It'll be a couple extra grand most likely just to import it, but fuck it then. I'd rather spend an extra 3.000 bucks or so on a car that at least sits comfortable, than having to drive a car that I'm not really satisfied with.
By the way, what also struck me while browsing those American car websites is the amount of horsepower that most American models have. Around here, a regular model will have about 100 - 175 or so HP's, depending on which model you take. But with the Acura for instance, it's immediately 200 HP's. That's nuts. Just something that struck me...
Anyway, I'll see what I'll do with my money. It's not the kind of decision that you make overnight. I'll have to think this through, compare prices with import cars. Come to think of it, while I'm in L.A. in the summer of '08 I'll probably go and take some test drives with the Nissan Altima for instance. See what's up.
I appreciate all the help so far. + 1 to all of you. Keep it coming...

^^^^ you should try to import the car from Luxembourg or Germany , I don't know how the prices are in Belgium but for me it's way cheaper ... and how much are you willing to spend

You mean import an American model from Luxembourg or Germany? ??? Since they don't have the Nissan Altima's here in Belgium, I'm pretty sure they won't have them there either. It all falls under the "Nissan Europe" umbrella. Or have I misunderstood what you meant?

^^Seriously...I never realized how dank our cars were until I went to other countries.
-
By 'dank' you mean 'the bomb' or something similar, I assume?
Keep the feedback coming btw!
