I think after Xzibit's first 3 records you would have had to put him in the category of hip-hop's top artists. Because how many other rappers have put out 3 solid albums in a row? Only one I can think of is Eminem. Because even if we talk about 2pac, I think his Apocalypse Now album isn't as dope as Xzibit's first 3 records. Also, if we talk about the West Coast, look how weak Snoop's second and especially his third album were. So it's safe to say, that Xzibit deserves to be considered one of the greats, for putting out 3 Dope albums in a row!
*******************
Now I want to give props to his second album, "40 Dayz and 40 Nightz". It had a hit video with "What U See Is What U Get", that video is crazy, with all this wild stuff going on around him, and he's just walkin the streets to get some bread for his kid. That video was number one on BET back in 98. So the album sold like 300,000.
Xzibit really was unique in coming up with a style, that mixed bangin West Coast beats (listen to Mel-Man's production on "Welcome To L.A." and it sounds like a sneak preview to "LA Niggaz" from Dre's 2001 album), yet at the same time he could compete with any East Coast emcee at the time, and his lyrics were hard core... making it one of the most intense and bangin West Coast albums ever! The album is fierce!!! He's in attack mode for 90% of the album!
My favorite track is "Focus".....but I'll break it down song by song later... peace
-
it brung a dark side out in X, compared to restless, and he kills it, amazing album, i have to agree focus is rite up ther with the best tracks on the album.
Xzibit will be soon considered a west coast great i think if he releases 1 more quality album 8)
-
Yeah i love 40 Dayz the shit iz crazy i love focus if you slow down concentrate the beat is almost identical

3 is already more than most emcee's. Name any other West coast emcee's with 3 albums equal to Xzibit's first 3 albums.

I'll agree Snoop had 3... but I think it's
1. Doggystyle
2. Top Dogg
3. Last Meal
..and then the first Eastsidaz album too
-
Only thing I ever liked from Too Short was the song "Gettin It".. that song is classic. Otherwise, he's kind of a novelty act to me.
-
to me snoop def doesent have 3 classics.

I've never listened to an Ice Cube album or a Cypress Hill album for a significant amount of time.
No doubt, Ice Cube has a lot of great songs, whether they were collaborations or solo joints, I have a lot of his stuff I listen to all the time, but as far as a whole album from beggining to end, I know he has albums considered classics, but personally I haven't listened to them like I listened to Xzibit's albums.

yeah most cypress hill albums are solid...i think their style doesnt appeal to alot of people though...its unfortunate though because they are really a good hip hop/rock band...........
* 1991: Cypress Hill = 2x plat.
* 1993: Black Sunday = 2x plat.
* 1995: III: Temples of Boom = 1x plat.
* 1996: Unreleased and Revamped = gold (not bad for a remix album)
* 1998: IV = gold
* 1999: Los grandes éxitos en español = gold (spanish remix album)
* 2000: Skull & Bones = 1x plat
* 2000: Live at the Fillmore = ???
* 2001: Stoned Raiders = gold
* 2002: Stash = ???
* 2004: Till Death Do Us Part =1x plat.
* 2005: Greatest Hits From the Bong = ???

never realised how much they hav went plat :o, they must be rollin in the money

Till Death Do Us Part may have went gold worldwide but not even close in the states. Neither did Stoned Raiders
But yeah 40 days is a dope album. Although to most the beats were not up to par, I thought it had excellent beats and it was X the mc, just spittin on there.

Cool, I did not know that.
-
look how weak Snoop's second
It has been said time and time again. His second album was not weak, it just wasn't up to the standards of Doggystyle so everyone thought it was weak. I think Tha Doggfather is a dope album.

I'm exactly the same. An Xzibit album just appeals to me more.

A real dope album, I agree with the most of the things you said.
Cube is def. an artist for your 3 str8 dope albums and so on.
corrections:
--man agianst machine isn't his 2nd album, 40 days and 40 nights was
--its not called man agianst machine, its called man vs. machine
--what you see is what you get is off 40 days and 40 nights
lol, no offence but how can you start this thread appreciating this album, and then getting the name of it wrong, saying you want to give props to his 2nd album (the whole thread is based on his 2nd album).

It ain't that deep man.. I just made a typo with the album title during my post.. but the thread title is the correct one

i think tht was close to doggystyle in terms of quality, great beats by dj pooh, daz, sam sneed etc, snoop was lyrically better here as well
-
Great album indeed.
X is really one of the few on the west coast (look at Tom's post) who has had 3 dope/solid/great albums IN A ROW (which is one of the thread starter's main points if I'm not mistkaen).Cause droppin 3 great albums in a row is hard.Staying on the WC, other people who've done it are Pac, Cube (I can argue he has 4 the same way I can argue Tribe have 4), Above The Law (well, this is kind if a personal opinion, but their first 3 LP's are above solid to me), Too $hort, i might add Paris to this list, his first 3 are solid.
And props for a nice thread

Album is in my top 10 of all time, and Chamber music is one of my favourite songs of all time also. King T's verse on that album was sick, I play that track everytime i have a drink.
