rolling stones haha you know that doesnt mean shit right?
-
^ I bet they're either 1) right 2) not far off in this case though.
Kanye is on a roll. Probably in the best time period of his career thus far. He's on another creative level right now.
-
Epic sounding album.

not cool
-
the clean version is barely noticable. RZA's verse on so appalled has a few words blanked out, but you don't notice the rest for the most part
definitely not enough to not make me download the clean
-
^ he right. this clean aint bad at all
-
The album is pretty great.

The album is pretty great.
Lost in the world is my favourite, that joint is epic
overall a great album

Yup. Justin Vernon's voice goes well with auto tune.
What have been the differences to the songs that he posted on Fridays? Are they completely different as he claimed they would be? Because I avoided most of them.

Lost in the world has some more drums in the background... monster sounds the same.. there probably are some differences in the songs but nothing that i can pick out
-
Tight I gotta wait for the explict.
-
Wonder if Mike Dean did any engineering on this
-
i might actually buy this on itunes to get the bonus tracks
really enjoying this album

Yup, I am most definitely buying this album. Gotta encourage artists who really do bust their asses off and work hard to give a good final product.
I'm old fashioned tho, Imma go to the store and buy a the CD. 8)
-

Definitely need all those iTunes bonus cuts
-
Wonder if Mike Dean did any engineering on this
I believe so. I seen a couple tweets where Mike was in sessions with Kanye.
-
8) I like this, Kanye Did his thing.
"Devil In A New Dress" still my fav track... Adding Ro$$ was cool.
(Glad to hear the final version)
I'll be copping this.
-
Ross spits very nicely on the new version of Devil In A New Dress
-
yeaaaaahhhhhhh! every song is like an event

Wasn't there supposed to be just one ? See me now ?

Ross spits very nicely on the new version of Devil In A New Dress
Most definitely ! Ppl gotta stop the hate. He might be a C.O. He may also be fat. Truth is, dude has a crazy ear for instrumentals and his lyrics are on point.

Never had problems with the fact dude was C.O, or fat or whatever lol, I just cant stand to hear him rap, sth doesnt sound right, its sounds so...how would I say unreal, artificial.
-
there was an updated tracklist, something like 6 bonus tracks
cant wait for this shit to hit the itunes store
-
Still clean? :-\
-
this didnt leak through the normal channels apparently. since the release date isnt until the 23rd, i wouldnt expect a grouprip before the 18th/19th

Theres nothing really wrong with the clean though, you can still bump it, Kanye doesnt get to explicit on it, this aint a DMX album! lol

I hate those pauses though.
But it's cool, I'll get a feel for the album when I bump it tomorrow & then upgrade when it completely leaks.
-
Someone said every songs is like an event and I feel exactly like that too, real amazing album! It's musically way too deep and a step ahead from the rest!
-
Still clean? :-\
damn, I can't wait anymore, but I don't want to listen to clean

"blame game" is a standout, like the new version of "devil in a new dress" too.
the album sounds highly polished, but far from perfect for my personal taste.

I wasn't sure what to expect of this album as i wasnt a fan of his last one but his other 3 are personal faves, but this is amazing, i agree with the poster earlier on in the thread saying each song is like an event, its totally different from any other album, its not a full on rap album but its musically spot on.
-
Thanks to TRG and Matty, updated the topic title. Gonna give this a spin.

It's one phenomenal musical orgy

Mood Muzik 4. That shit has only gotten better with time.
This album is sick though. "Dark Fantasy", "Blame Game", "All of the Lights", "Hell of a Life"; great fucking music. 8)
-
LOLOLOL
you rate mood muzik 4 over this album? are you fucking serious?
-
Me thinks this is the hip-hop album of the year. I got mad love for Banks but i don't his album is going to carry the same weight, message, control, direction, and poignancy this album has.
-
Album is crazy... Im really feeling it.. But i still like graduation better.. But this album is on point top to bottom i give it a 10
-
LOLOLOL
you rate mood muzik 4 over this album? are you fucking serious?
Haha
-
can't front on this album the production is really thorough and epic, very impressive. kanye is also on point, just a few guest spots that slightly spoil some tracks - nicki on monster, swizz on so appalled and definitely the dude who keeps shouting ridicolous at the end of that one too.
overall a very high quality album, expertly crafted.
-
finally a dirty copy is out, I'm only at Gorgeous now, but I think imma buy this album
Matty: I didn't like Nicki on Monster at first neither, but her verse is my favorite right now, and the dude on So Appalled is RZA ;D
-
LOLOLOL

Clearly.
Intro
Role Reversal
Come Along
Sober Up
Black Cloud
Follow My Lead
Inseperable
1000 Faces
Stuck In The Moment
I really don't want this thread to become Joe Budden related, but c'mon. Kanye's album is great & I love the overall sound of the album. But lyrically & substance wise, every song I just listed could be better than any song on Kanye's album.
Don't tell me with a straight face he's "outrapping" Joe, his production & the sound he gives us are what draw us into this album.
If that's who you are & you don't need a heavy dose of lyrics to consider something the best Hip Hop album of the year; I'm not going to tell you that you have to.
-
Back to Kanye, this album gives him four amazing albums.
His first three are personal classics to me. This one is early to judge if this is just "a great album" or a "personal classic"; only time will tell. But regardless, minus "808's" (which wasn't Hip Hop; so you can't even hold it against him), Kanye has been the most consistant artist in the last decade.
Eminem can still outrap most people, but he clearly went on a heavy decline from MMLP, one of the greatest classics, to Encore & Relapse.
50 & Game disappeared from the face of the Hip Hop game.
You get the point.
Kanye, even though his off the mic antics may bother some of you, you cannot deny the man as one of the best rappers in the past ten years.
-
lmao @ all the hype.
Musical masterpiece?
If this is the best Hip Hop had to offer this year then goodnight...
-

No.
It's just that beats like dark fantasy are annoying as hell, plus way too much pop. Lyricially not bad, but his voice kills it anyway (yes I'm not a Kanye fan) A few songs are really nice tho.

"blame game" is a standout, like the new version of "devil in a new dress" too.

This.
-
Production is amazing on this. One of the best produced albums Ive heard in a while. Kanye comes correct with his lyrics only thing I feel he should have done was take off Officer Rick and the bootleg Lil Kim clone and replace them with more Pusha T and maybe Common but hey nothing can be perfect. I can even deal with Kid Corny being on it since they keep him doin his little hooks instead of rapping. All that said Id give the shit a 9.5/10.
-
finally a dirty copy is out, I'm only at Gorgeous now, but I think imma buy this album
Matty: I didn't like Nicki on Monster at first neither, but her verse is my favorite right now, and the dude on So Appalled is RZA ;D
damn i'm not that familiar with RZA's vocals but he's annoying as hell on here...
-
yes, he is, I will cut his part if I could
btw. on All Of The Lights I don't hear John Legend, Ryan Leslie, The-Dream and Elly Jackson ???
-

I liked RZA on this. Didnt mind Swizz on it either. And imo Nicki had the best verse on Monster :-\ Opinions eh :D
Loving the album apart from the last track Lost in The World.
Dark Fantasy - 5/5
Gorgeous - 4/5
Power - 3.5/5
All Of The Lights - 3/5
Monster - 5/5
So Appalled - 5/5
Devil In A New Dress - 5/5
Runaway - 3/5
Hell Of A Life - 5/5
Blame Game - 5/5
Lost In The World - 1/5
I would take out Runaway and Lost In The World and replace them with The Joy and Lord Lord Lord.
-
This shit is amazing. A movie. Just one quick listen so I can't say anything for certain yet. But first impression is absolutely fantastic.
BTW Nicki and Ross killed their verses, quit nitpicking.
-
The fuck yall trippin, RZA is cool on this. 8)
-

+1

If a verse similar to Nicki Minaj's verse on Monster was done by a respected male rapper, it would have been praised more.
-
Dark Fantasy - 5/5
Gorgeous - 4/5
Power - 5/5
All of the Lights - 4.5/5
Monster - 4.5/5
So Appalled - 5/5
Devil in a new Dress - 5/5
Runaway - 5/5
Hell of a Life - 4.5/5
Blame Game - 5/5
Lost in the World - 3.5/5
fucking fantastic
-
Never been a Kanye fan, but yeah... that was awesome ! 8)
-
I took this album serious until cham decided to call it a "musical masterpiece"
thanks cham -_-
-
Somebody else called it a musical orgy & somebody else gave the album a "4.999999999/5"...but nobody commented on those.
I'm glad three people (although the same three people) called me out. Shows that my opinions are read time & time again. 8)
The funniest part of this is how I've been called out twice; once for "over-praising" this album & once for "under-praising" this album & calling MM4 better. You guys are either delirious, retarded or just bitter, sitting at your keyboard going against what I say for the fuck of it. Take your pick. ;)
-
wow, ok i was expecting the 2nd coming of Christ with the way you guys reviewed this shit! This is not touching his first 3 albums yall!
How the fuck can you guys bump that "toast to the douchebags, toast to the assholes" god awful song that is like 9:00 long? Also, many of the songs are too long.
Also, "pussy and religion is all I need"
Some of the shit on here IS awesome though:
the intro beat is sick as fuck, i wish the whole album woulda been like that.
Power, monster, so appalled, and devin a new dress are all dope too. Monster is the best track to me as everyone came tight.
Im not feeling blame game or the last two tracks and I am greatly dissapointed with "All of the lights"!! You guys were comparing it to "Flashing lights" WTF???? Flashing lights shits all over every song on this album as do alot of Kanye's earlier tracks. This shit is 3.5/5
Since I know yall are gonna wanna know, some Songs better than every song on this album:
Flashing Lights
Touch the sky
Champion
Family Business
Gone
Spaceship
I wonder
All Falls Down
-
This is easily his best produced body of work
-

I agree that it's not really all that great. Nothing really stood out to me. I think "Graduation" was much, much better than MBDTF.
I will listen to it again though. Maybe It'll grow on me.
-
this doesnt top is first album but its a great album, very well done!! I enjoy the sound of it
-
I'm holding out until the album drops, but the temptation to download is become stronger ;D

You take yourself way too important. As always. I read through all the comments, there was enough ridiculous praise, you just had the advantage that yours came first when I searched for a quote.
But this is a nice theory you created there. Some would call it paranoia.
-
^Seems to happen thread in & thread out; doesn't quite add up. ;)
This is easily his best produced body of work
No way. This is the worst of his four Hip Hop albums; but those are all personal classics to me, so calling this "great/amazing" works. It honestly lacks those standout songs that we'll remember for years & years; that "classic" song, that sticks, that all his other albums had.
Production wise, it's right there, but overall, it's last; which is still great, considering what it's going up against.
-
This album is considerably better than Graduation
-
It's his best album and time will prove that...until he releases another one.
-
The worst part of this album is Kanye's raps, real talk... personally I think this is a classic. With everything he's doing (runaway, the musicality of it all) I can't see it not having that kind of impact.
I love every song... Gonna have some fun making my own version of the album with the good friday cuts too
-

fucking fantastic
DOPE album. Like others, as I've heard alot already, it doesn't hit me like THAT...but imagine if all we'd heard was one single, like back in the day.
Dark Fantasy - 4/5 (crazy sample ,nice beat)
Gorgeous - 4/5 (nice beat, and Yeezy kills it...to the point where Raekwon wasn't necessary)
Power - 5/5 (Incredible song, this one took a while to grow on me)
All of the Lights - 4.5/5 (not loving Fergie or Rihanna on here...this SHOULD have been a 5/5, crazy hook and beat, so many instruments)
Monster - 2/5 (don't really like it at all...its this albums "Barry Bons"...Ye always has at least one out opf place song per album)
So Appalled - 5/5 (beat is WHOA, love RZA at the end...love the whole song)
Devil in a new Dress - 4/5 (the beat switch for ROss part is nice...I just wish it wasn't Ross)
Runaway - 5/5 (amazing beat, nice song...VMA performance was epic...sounded even better live)
Hell of a Life - 4/5 (hook, beat, concept all good)
Blame Game - 5/5 (y favourite song on the album, bout time Kanye got back with John Legend)
Lost in the World - 5/5 (wow...this is some next shit...some will feel it, some won't)
-
bumpin this album nonstop since friday, like literally nonstop, gorgeous is my fav song on the album. lost in the world grew on me, dark fantasy is dope, a couple of the slowert tracks dont really do that much for me, but pretty sick ass album,.
-
This album dint come out yet and im super annoyed. Dont get me wrong i think the work on this record is realy professional innovative.
Honestly tho to me it got annoying real quick. I never thought Kanye was a good rapper. Has clever rhymes but his lazy style annoys the fuck out of me.
Production wise the guy is amazing, creative and probably in top 5 skills in hip hop right now.
-
Am I the only one not liking Kanye's direction when it comes to his producing at the moment. For me some of the beats on this album are a mess.
-
Listenable tracks are:
Dark Fantasy
Gorgeous
Power
So Appalled
This album is definitely not as good as you are all making out.
This album is considerably better than Graduation
It really isn't. Thats a personal classic for me.

its all down to personal taste. power is the obvious RAP SINGLE whereas most of the album covers new ground for kanye and for a lot of hip-hop listeners.

Lost in this World is one of the best tracks I have heard in a long ass time.

Finally a statement I can relate to.
Same with the new Dre songs: hype hype hype.
It might be that people lowered their standards that much, I see posts like 'well better than anything else out right now'. Or because they praise everything that comes from Kayne/Dre etc...
-
808s and Heartbreak is evidence that people don't just praise Kanye automatically. I'm certain that almost every music site/publication will have it as their AOTY or top 5.
-

Well then it's maybe just me, I think I've grown out of Hip Hop.
-
wow this has to be the best album i've heard in years all the way through. For my taste it doesn't have real stand out singles but just when i thought hip hop was dead it just got an electric jolt right in the center of the heart and got a pulse once again.
-
I Haven't Even Considerd Bothering To Check This Out But Maybe I'll Give It A Look See.

Maybe, but the rest of Graduation is better than the rest of this album, ecxept Power maybe.
Except not. Power isn't even one of the best songs on the album
What is then, because like NauticaICE said, there are no real stand out tracks and nothing stands out as much as Power to me.

808s and Heartbreak is evidence that people don't just praise Kanye automatically. I'm certain that almost every music site/publication will have it as their AOTY or top 5.
Well then it's maybe just me, I think I've grown out of Hip Hop.
I'm not the biggest hip hop fan nowadays, I probably listen to 4-6 hip hop albums a year. Most are pretty decent, but this one has me excited. And maybe it's due to the fact that I was a much bigger fan of hip hop back when The College Dropout was released. So, I've been able to see him grow as an artist. Reason I'm loving this album is for its unconventional hip hop methods. I'll mention some for examples
Devil in a New Dress
-2:51-Guitar solo that fits the song perfectly, and continues on Rick Ross' verse. (I would say most mainstream ears would be used to just have the end after Kanye's verse.)
Runaway
-This one is pretty obvious. Apart from the song already being an anthem, the studio version has a "vocal" solo from Kanye at the end which I find pretty great. It has an old school hip hop feel with the sample used.
-
Listenable tracks are:
Dark Fantasy
Gorgeous
Power
So Appalled
This album is definitely as not good as you are all making out.
This album is considerably better than Graduation
It really isn't. Thats a personal classic for me.

Blame Game, Devil in a New Dress, Dark Fantasy, Gorgeous and then Power. Those are the standout tracks, in order.
All of the Lights, So Appalled, Runaway are above average
The rest are okay, not really any wack tracks.
Some people on this site massively overrate Graduation compared to the rest of us. Was it like the first Kanye album you got into?

No, College Dropout was. Now that is way better than this average album.

average? Well you're entitled to your opinion. But from the looks of things so far, a lot of people and major publications are going to disagree with you.
-
All opinions at the end of the day. I don't see whats so great about it which means the chances of me going back and checkig the rest of the album apart from the tracks I named again are very low.

I like how he gives the middle finger to the entire industry concept of what a hip-hop song should be. You know that typical 3 minute banger that can get people moving? Kanye shits on it and lets the music play out. His rhyming has improved both vocally and lyrically. And, his production? Continues to sample from his roots to his new tastes and meshes it all together. It's fantastic to see what he's done.
Honestly, I think Ye's debut College Dropout is his most overrated work.

Here's a review that succinictly explains what makes this album phenomenal. It's written by Jake Pain,
A proven master at thematic album-making, West’s fifth offering is an electric journey equipped with painkillers, a break-up letter, an overstuffed iPod and the latest issue of Penthouse in his Prada duffle.
In the opening bars of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Kanye West asserts, “We found bravery in my bravado.” As far as Hip Hop music goes, this is too true. Because of West’s renaissance of carefully-crafted artistry and decadent decision-making, Rap has been restored from an over-saturated commodity to the grandiose stage Jay-Z left empty after The Black Album.
The earliest glimpse at My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is one of its best moments. “Power” is the Kanye West that will be most remembered in lyrical circles:
In this white man’s world, we the ones chosen / So goodnight cruel world, I’ll see you in the mornin’ / Huh? I’ll see you in the mornin’ / This is way too much, I need a moment.
Just as Eminem paused amidst his uber-fame in 2002 to relive his battle-to-mainstream ascent in “Till I Collapse” and “Lose Yourself,” Kanye West reminds us that while he’s reading price-tags and royalty statements, he still reads the news. He declares on "Gorgeous":
“Face it, Jerome get more time than Brandon / And at the airport, they check all through my bag and tell me it’s random / But we stay winnin’ / This week has been a bad massage, I need a happy endin’ / And a new beginning / And a new fitted / And some job opportunities that’s lucrative / This the real world, homie, school finished / They done stole your dreams, you don’t know who did it / I treat the cash like the government treats AIDS, I won’t be satisfied till all my niggas get it, get it?”
At a time when West is revising a blueprint he’s help create for Drake and Kid Cudi, his sharp, outspoken lines put him in the lineage of Ice Cube and Chuck D, something that ‘Ye’s predecessors cannot seem to do - without him as a link. Lines like that complement Rap laureate Gil Scott-Heron on West’s closer, “Who Will Survive In America?” And for every mention of Oscar De La Renta, Lamborghini and private jets, one of Hip Hop’s wealthy elite still finds a way to make recession-applicable music without kneeling.
A proven master at thematic album-making, West’s fifth offering is an electric journey equipped with painkillers, a break-up letter, an overstuffed iPod and the latest issue of Penthouse in his Prada duffle. As the most quoted emcee of the last five years returns to his precise Rap roots on “Monster” or the aforementioned “Dark Fantasy,” he also acknowledges 2008’s 808’s & Heartbreaks not as a wrong turn, but as a fuel stop. With some of his simplest and melodic bars West’s “Runaway” epitomizes his mastery of the anthem. The emotion on this album is a kaleidoscope of self-righteousness, loneliness - and something that’s been missing from the last two albums: joy. The nine-minute “Runaway” reveals all of this in one place, as West’s message drunkenly sways between a proud cold shoulder and a bended-knee plea. Although most songwriters would be accused of disjointed messages, Kanye’s deep sincerity gives him dynamic dimensions that he’s rightfully earned through a decade of public antics and extensive catalog.
For an album that resulted from sessions with Pete Rock, Q-Tip and No I.D., My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy avoids any throwback qualities. Instead, the work carries the sample-driven sound forward with a more refined arsenal of keyboards and filters that West started motioning towards in 2008’s “Swagger Like Us” and “Welcome To Heartbreak.” Dark, fuzzed-out electric accents give this album a cohesive sound that anchor the multiple themes. A Blues riff on “Gorgeous,” hard synths on “Hell of A Life” and Bon Iver’s scratchy, extended vocals on “Monster” have more in common in audio than on paper. If 808’s were pastels to Graduation’s orange, then the sharp bold production on Fantasy bleeds scarlet red. On the songs that stray from traditional Rap sounds, such as “Runaway” or “All Of The Lights,” West’s Akai MPC hand ferociously reminds any skeptic that he’s not straying, but expanding. Pounding drums on “Lost In The World” make every song on this album club-ready, and an intense tapestry of ever-changing sound that includes several genres and decades of inspiration.
Kanye West’s bravado has inspired cartoons, it’s made award show producers sleepless, and it’s caught the attention of both Presidents Bush and Obama. But within that bravado is a bravery that allows Hip Hop artists to step outside of their carefully-guarded boxes. From nine-minute douchebag manifestos, to enlisting an A-list Grammy ensemble to piece-mealing his album out to the masses every Friday, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy defies logic and it ignores convention. Whether it’s acknowledging his mistakes, measuring his might, or fantasizing of wifing Kristina Rose, Kanye West finds a way to relate to all. He’s not forcing his hand, just reminding us that the biggest star we appointed in the last five years can still recognize our own fantasies, insecurities and desire for colorful music from his spaceship.

Excellent read. Hit the nail on the head. Jake Paine is my favorite hip hop writer.
-
...still waiting till tomorrow when I buy the deluxe edition. I haven't listened to anything yet (besides the Good Friday drops), so almost everything will be new for me. The mini movie's on the 2nd disc, right? Otherwise I'll feel screwed.

Just came by to say that Kanye West's SNL performances a few weeks ago were the greatest ever done on SNL. GREATEST OF ALL TIME!

I'm so gonna listen to this tomorrow after I picked it up :P
-
I got my copy of the album today (it was released in Australia today 8) Only bad thing is there was no deluxe version over here :-\). I didn't listen to any of the leaks except for the G.O.O.D. Friday tracks and I have to say the album is pretty epic. I can't give it a classic rating because I' not feeling "Lost in The World" but I'd give it a strong 4.5 out 5 ;D
I liked Rza' part on "So Appalled" I wish they replaced Swizz vocals with his.
Am I the only one who wasn't really feeling the distorted style vocals on "Gorgeous"?
-
i dont get 'all of the lights', it has a whack rihanna style chorus (i dont even know if it is her since she sounds like every other over-produced shitty rnb singer). the beat is kinda mad tho. all the other tracks are fire.

i dont really like the party tracks like monster, all of the lights, .... gorgeous, lost in the world, the intro , runaway, etc. are fucking sick

Really liking this album, production wise it's solid start to finish. Lyrics are nothing special but are decent enough not to detract from the feel of the album.
Loving RZA at the end of that one track, the Chris Rock bit is tedious (as most skits are regardless of whether or not they're incorporated into a song or a seperate number) and Jay-Z's verses are fucking boring. Really fucking boring.
-

yeah....boy

young....hov
hate this guy

God damn it! They only had the single disc version >:(

Just bumped this album again and I still don't see what's so great about it. Had about 4 good songs, the rest was pretty weak to me.
-
01. Dark Fantasy - 5/5, great vocals on here, very heavenly sounding... when the beat drops :o def on some old Kanye ish
02. Gorgeous (feat. Kid Cudi & Raekwon) - 4/5, catchy beat and hook, Kanye and Rae both drop good verses
03. POWER - 4/5, this sounds great finally mastered, I didn't bump this like that when it first came out and I'm glad cuz I like this even more now
04. All Of The Lights (Interlude) - N/A
05. All Of The Lights - 4.5/5, very different type of beat for Kanye and he killed it, all of the guests work here, hook is nice, good song
06. Monster (feat. Jay-Z, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj & Bon Iver) - 4/5, this one also grew on me over the past few months, it's dope
07. So Appalled (feat. JAY-Z, Pusha T, Prynce Cy Hi, Swizz Beatz & The RZA) - 5/5, LOVE this record, the beat is too grimey... Pusha & Cyhi killed it the most out of everybody and even Jigga was good other than the line he stole from Kurupt
08. Devil In A New Dress (feat. Rick Ross) - 5/5, not Kanye's production but Bink! on the beat :o, the Rick Ross addition surprised me and was not out of place, epic track and one of my favorites on here
09. Runaway (feat. Pusha T) - 4.5/5, always loved this record since I first heard it, some of Kanye's singing I wasn't big on first but I'm passed that, this final version sounds awesome
10. Hell Of A Life - 4/5, the vibe really switches up here from the last track, not bad at all though, solid track
11. Blame Game (feat. John Legend) - 4.5/5, maybe Kanye's best performance on here lyrically, record with a lot of substance and the Chris Rock outro is classic and hilarious
12. Lost In The World - 3/5, not bad but too much on that 808s and Heartbreak vibe and not a strong way to close out the album
13. Who Will Survive In America - N/A
I will be picking this up Tuesday
-
have the 6 itunes bonus tracks or whatever it was leaked yet?
i just checked the australian itunes store and there is only one bonus track and some runaway video
-
I picked it up as well and they only had the single disc version...
-
finally given the album a bump, and while i can appreciate that there is a lot of thought, time and effort gone into it, and hes clearly a talented dude, i just dont see what all the hype is about...there were a few tracks where i was feeling them instantly, but also a good few that i couldnt make my mind up about
maybe itll grow on me, but after first listen i dont think its even close to his best

Finally I found the special edition and listened to this album for the first time as well. I agree exactly with the post above. After one spin I think it's a good album, but it's not nearly as good as College Dropout and Late Registration.
-
its about as far away from a traditional hip-hop album as you can get without it being something else, which is ambitious as hell. thats why its getting a lot of love. i can see a lot of people who only really listen to hip-hop hating this album, its different, and for a mainstream rap album its out of this fucking world
-
a re-release already? smh

I don't listen to HH only, but I still don't like the album. Oviously it's well received, I like the idea of mixing different styles too. But that doesn't make it a great album. Janelle Monae did it too, and I think she did it waaay better than Kanye. But I've never liked Kanyes music anyway...

I agree that doesnt make a great album, i think this is though. just my opinion. strange how just last week i was talking with a friend how janelle monae tried a lot of different sounds and when it works it works but when it fails its just awful. i thought that record was flawed but still really enjoyed it.

Good solid album

there might be a rerelease around christmas was bonus tracks like momma's boyfriend according to q-tip.

Damn, a re-release a month later?
-
Yeah, I hate that shit cause I just copped it. You'd think they'd release the special edition first as an incentive to pick it up
-
Can somebody explain to me why I read positive reviews about the "Runaway" film? What the fuck was that? :loco:
-
It was incredibly amateurish but some of the cinematography was on point; it's usage of color was nice; and the ideas he attempted to present are admirable.
-
Now that I've had a really good amount of listens on this album, I have to say that pretty much every track is either a 4.5 or 5, except for Hell of a Life. Hell of a Life is pretty weak compared the other songs. It's a cool song, but is out of place.

I don't see it dropping by Xmas. Web stores would have it up for pre-order already.

those early re-releases are a slap in the face to anyone who was nice enough to buy the album when it first came out
