Guards To Begin Draft Workouts
UCLA's sophomore guards Arron Afflalo and Jordan Farmar might be staying in Los Angeles even if they forego their two years of college eligibility for the NBA. Both the Lakers and the Clippers will stage private workouts for Afflalo and Farmar, the Los Angeles Times reported on Wednesday.
Both guards, who declared for the NBA Draft on April 20, are projected to be late first-round or early second-round picks if they stay in this year's draft, held June 28.
It is usually customary for NBA teams to host workouts for their local eligible prospects.
Last week, ESPN.com reported that UCLA assistant coach Kerry Keating was in Los Angeles viewing local NBA workouts to help prepare for both the Laker and Clipper workouts.
Both players, however, can't work out for either team until they become part-time students. They are projected to do that by Friday, when they drop one of their three classes.
I've been talkin' about this dude for years (Jordan Farmar), I played high-school ball with him...He's gunna be great, I hope the Lakers take him, he could easily be a late first round or even second round steal...Also, I wouldn't mind taking Afflalo in the second round, kid has potential, I like his slashing game...Also, Ryan Hollins is looking like a nice second round big with upside. 3 UCLA propsects in the draft this year, should be really interesting...I'm also still interested in the development of Dijon Thompson, he didn't really get to showcase his skill much in Phoenix, but he did good when he did play...PeACe

i dont really know much about Affalo, and the only thing i know about Farmar is his performance in the tournament.
to cut it short, he impressed me with his game & skills. if i knew more bout NCAA i'd be more insightful but thats bout it

I think they were from taft too, or he knows them really well. Dude does have skills, but he kept passing it, he kept calling himself "the assist manager"..lol

Jordan Farmar defines a true point guard. Excellent playmaker, fluid jumper, he has range, ball-handeling skills...His defense is still a little shakey, but he's getting stronger...I was talking about this guy being an NBA star when he was still a junior in high school with me. I know talent, and this guy is definitely blessed...PeACe

He mentioned that although the UCLA sophomore looked fairly quick in the drills and was quite knowledgeable, he was still a pretty average player in terms of NBA potential. He was also unimpressed by his shot, stating I didnt like his shot, and I didnt like his release. He didnt really have much of a pull-up jumper and could really only shoot from a stand still.

He's projected as a late 1st rounder...So I dunno. As for Afflalo, he probably had a HORRIBLE workout. Sucks for him, cuz he's actually a good player. His work-out review didn't really match his scouting report...

Ain't he a top 10 draft pick? I hope they plan on putting him at PG becuase it is way more of a concern then SG. If the Lakers are going to trade that high they might as well hope for Foye or Marcus Williams. But I'm probably just daydreaming. :P I'll give Mitch Kupchak the benefit of the doubt.

There have been many reported rumors that we're looking to trade up...With the sole purpose of obtaining Brandon Roy, who the Lakers are extremely high on and have already worked out.

Over a five-day period at the NBA's recent pre-draft camp, UCLA guard Jordan Farmar impressed enough scouts, coaches and general managers to be considered a late first-round draft pick, based on a sampling of league player personnel evaluators.
According to these NBA evaluators, San Diego State forward Marcus Slaughter also showed some skills at the camp, but many still weren't sure that the former Riverside North High star did enough to get drafted.
The draft is June 28. Underclassmen who haven't signed with an agent and are just testing the waters have until Sunday to decide if they'll try to get drafted or return to college.
With the draft short on quality point guards, Farmar, a sophomore who led the Bruins to the NCAA Tournament championship game last spring, showed he was one of the better ones available while playing in three games and working out in Orlando, Fla.
The Lakers are looking for a point guard and liked what they saw from Farmar, but they don't think he'll be available when they draft at No. 26. The talk is that Farmar could go somewhere in the early 20s.
Farmar has yet to announce if he'll remain in the draft or return to UCLA. Indications are that Farmar will not return to Westwood.
