Kurupt just mentioned on his instagram while him & Quik are on tour in Australia that they are working on a new album "WhiteOut (the cocaine chronicles)" can't wait for that!
-

Extremely dope news. I still bump a number of tracks from Blaqkout regularly. I remember Kurupt once said that he and Quik were gonna put out one of these slappers every year - I wish that were true!
-
Good news.
-
Good news.
-
I'll definitely check it, hard to get too excited after the last one though.
-
1. "BlaQKout"
2. "Cream N Ya Panties" (featuring Tre Mak)
3. "Do You Know"
4. "Whatcha Wan Do"
5. "Ohh!"
6. "Fuck Y'all"
7. "Hey Playa (Moroccan Blues)"
8. "Exodus"
9. "9x's Outta 10" (Hype/Mixtape material)
10. "Jupiter's Critic & the Mind of Mars" (WTF was this garbage)
11. "The Appeal"
12. "Problem: The B Stands for Beautiful
13. "Whatcha Wan Do (Alternative Version)
5 tracks worthy, the rest just plain sucked. Keep the experimental shyt to the mixtapes
-
1. "BlaQKout"
No disrespect my dude, but how can you say this song sucked?!
-
1. "BlaQKout"
No disrespect my dude, but how can you say this song sucked?!
Exactly! One of the best tracks on the album. My iTunes says I am up to 187 plays of it since it came out. Shit is dope. So is "Ohh" and "9 x outta 10".
Blaqkout was album of the year to me in 2009, cannot wait for Whiteout (if it happens).

Exactly the three tracks I'd add, too. The overall problem wasn't the beats but the often below-average raps anyway.
-
quik & kurupt don't have good chemistry like suga free and quik. I rather hear suga free and quik do a album and hear DA & kurupt do a album than to hear a quik & kurupt album.

Lookin' forward to hearing this, even though i really didn't like "BlaQKout" at all except for the title track. I think i'ma give the album another chance though.

1. "BlaQKout"

Not the beat. The beat was actually nice in a modernized 'vintage' quik kinda-way. It still felt like an intro. I was picking out complete songs that I'd keep.
Like previously mentioned, Kurupt is garbage on the mic now. No passion, no flow, no clever wordplay, nothing! Nothing to bring to the table at all. DJ Quik may not give us his Rhythm-ilsm sound in complete album form anymore, but his talent and ability is still flowing well. The addition of Kurupt just drags down the quality of the album.
How about having "whiteout" with DJ Quik and El Debarge collabo? Those who have proven chemistry and enhance each others capability's ?

Very good album. Will stay underrated on the dub but real music fans know where it's at
-
Wow, so doing coke is cool again? Hopefully this has about 5 good songs, so I can combine the 5 good songs from Blackout and put them on one cd.

If the album is going to be Cocaine-themed, then it would be very appropriate for Quik to get El DeBarge to sing some of the hooks!
-
Cool, hopefully this will be less experimental.
-
Cocaine? I thought these boys were supposed to be hip.
These niggas might as well make an album about doing Quaaludes and watching Macgyver.

Lmao
BlaqKout was awful. Book of David was weak too. I'd hate to think Quik is done. Dude needs to finally expand, go do a jazz / soul project, do a funk project, something.

Great production, but not much outside of that. As far as Quik goes, I've never really been a fan of dude on the mic, so this was no different. Kurupt can bring it every now and then but I didn't see it much on this album. I don't think it was horrible like some people are saying but it's hard for me to call an album "good" when the rapping is that boring.

i just listened to blaqout the otherday, it was better then i remembered the worst thing u can really say is some shitty hooks and few overly ambitious beats.

yeah they both love to dabble.

It's a very good, but not *great* album. 7/10 for me, all day

Man, one of my favorite MC's and one of my favorite Producers, and their first project was a straight bust.
anyone wanting to defend that, when it came out, was that really what you expected?
i was disappointed, i was expecting a Cant Go Wrong type of feel.
it was horrible, OLD rappers trying to fit in to todays style is just horrible, they should just make good G-Funk, and make something respectable and have some class, instead of being desperate and selling out to whatever type of sound is popular in the mainstream. i mean come on its like elvis or the beatles making heavy metal albums when heavy metal blew up.
the genre is just that different, these old cats need to understand that.
i have very low expectations, so i hope i'll get surprised.

some of the songs were cool but kurupt straight sucked all along. and Quik was good at times, but not consistently. most beats were interesting though.
6/10 for me.

Maybe now but dude fucked up a promising career experimenting with cristal and pills (in addition to all the weed and alcohol). Then his fans wonder why he can't compose a fuckin verse.

all his associates are coke heads, and i've seen some live videos where he was clearly on coke/pills

Musically it's a better album, but still very good. Don't agree with people that the lyrics make it trash: just not as good as it could've been
Btw I couldn't give a damn if kurupt or his bro do coke. Don't see why people gettin so judgemental bout it
-
kurupt had a few garbage lines on it so did quik i hate when quik comes off preachy like nigga u prolly just did a ball

IMO compared to other rappers I listen to or listened to when this came out the raps did suck most of the time. 9x outta 10 was hot, though. The delievery was straight. But better raps would've improved the overall project by far.
'Hey Playa' with that instrumental and that hook could have been the dopest record out that year!
*post might contain slight exaggerations*

I guess if it's as good as regulate, bizarre ride, and reasonable doubt then it must be pretty good, no?
But in all honesty, I felt Blakqout was extremely underrated. Will be checkin for the new 1.

THESE days, he destroyed his brain with all that other shit.
id imagine he'd still spit fire more often if he didnt do all that shit. you're not the same after doing massive amounts of twak and coke. and he did do massive amounts, because last time i saw him he was rolling around in a 05 camry rolling 4 deep with slip capone, kurupt, kurupts groupie, and kurupts cousin

Kurupt started falling off in the late 90's, so I don't know how much the drugs impacted his lyrics or not
even though he isnt nearly what he was his delivery is always straight 8)

his freestyles are on point.
if anyone does a gang of tweak like he did, im pretty sure its gonna deteriorate ur mind. i mean anyone that knows a drug (hard drug) addict knows that they changed.
they're not all the way there.
but hes off it (coming from my homie, whos boys with roscoe now, funny huh?), which explains the better verses recently, but they need to do G-Funk and stop trying to blend into the younger style. because it comes out sounding like this:
http://www.youtube.com/v/zGdEdojTVkw&feature=youtu.be
spice went at it, but listen to the beat, i wouldnt be caught dead in car with this in my whip. like WHY. waste of spice's verses on a whack ass beat.

He still has the desire to go off but he can't. I kinda feel bad for the guy. Its like seeing a former athlete in a wheel-chair get upset and attempt to stand up for a second only to realize they can't bare weight on their legs anymore.

He did, but then that's not entirely due to Kurupt's skills or talent alone. That album was more like a DPG/WestCoast compilation with Kurupts name slapped on it. Daz, Nate, Snoop, Tray Dee. Even had Dre on there and introduced a lot of newer WestCoast rappers - Soopafly, Crooked I, Roscoe, Xzibit etc. The Warren G album "I want It All" the following year was similar but not as many people as Kurupt's project but it was a vast improvement from his earlier album.
In Fact Kuruption was a good album. 'We Can Freak It' was a West Coast classic IMO. The problem with album that I found was the structure of it. You had West Coast sounding songs on the East Coast disc with East Coast features only. Apart from Noreaga and Buckshot I barely knew anyone on the East Coast disc. That, like a lot of double albums, could have been a solid single disc album

Streetz = totally overrated
Kuruption = criminally slept on
SDDS = completely overlooked
Only Space Boogie gets its props as a universally enjoyable album, in reality they're all about the same
-
Streetz = totally overrated
Whaat? Just bumped the album yesterday and no matter if it's due to the production and guest rappers on it, that album goes hard to this day. Doesn't sound dated or anything.
I'll admit that Space Boogie is on par at times but had much more average material imho.

They're both very good albums, but I see Streetz being spoke of as some all time great. Certain tracks on there could be called west cassics but overall it's no better than the other albums I've listed

Like I said IMO Space Boogie has a lot more weak tracks than Streetz. So in this case I think we agree to disagree since we all know that opinions are like assholes. ;D j/k

Streetz Iz A Mutha.. is a classic album, no matter which way you cut it. You're entitled to your own opinion, don't get me wrong, but this album and Daz Dillinger's RAW are exactly what you would expect from Dogg Pound solo albums.

Streetz is a West 'classic' as in it could be considered a essential album to own
In the broader spectrum of music it's not even on the charts

i think streetz is overrated on dubcc too but you say it like such a fag. "in the broader spectrum of music" were talking about a fuckin kurupt cd not the pinnacle of humanity. and the first quik and jurupt cd was so bad i have no interest in this at all

u trippin, foo..it's as good as streetz is a mutha, which is as good as regulate and reasonable doubt, which is not quite on par with good kid maad city.
so in essence, it's a 7/10 on the will scale..recognize
seriously, there are opinions in hip-hop...but certain notions are accepted as cold, hard facts
such as streetz>space boogie>kuruption>same day different shit....and it dont matter what u think, cuz thats what it is. u can come in here and say it's all a matter of opinion...well, in some muthafuckaz opinion, drake would lyrically destroy rakim. that just means their opinion is ridiculous ala will b when rating classic west coast albums

Streetz has a more refined West signature sound, but Kurupt raps are too haphazard to make it as good as people here seem to think
Typical of West headz, not to consider the lyrical part of the music tho
Now take Kuruption out in the whip at night: the latter half of the West disc and all of the East side are just as good an album. Preconceptions bout Kurupt in 98 vs 92 are messin their ears up. Yes it ain't as good but go bump that shit again FRESH

That right there is the problem. Pre-conceived ideas about how the sound will be and if it slightly differs from that then people dismiss it immediately. Not the right way to go about it.
The very reason sequels for movies don't do well in general.
Go with an open mind, not trying to hear for a certain type of sound you want it to be like.

fucking garbage.
the ONLY song on that disc with redeemable value is the one that starts out like "dont make no sense, in a false pretense" or some shit...i dont know the name but im sure you do.
anyways this nigga got a pete rock beat on that thing and the nigga didnt even use his signature sounds or nothing. its a fucking drumtrack and a bassnote.

the first track you mentioned is "That's Gangsta" produced by Warren G, its on the West Coast Disc...
I agree about the East Coast Disc, I like "Its A Setup" and "Game" and maybe 1 or 2 others
-
lol may bad
then yeah the first disc is compete garbage then.

i never got into kuruption... there's tracks i like on the west coast disc, but i can never listen to it from start to finish. t
the east coast disc is never managed to listen to it entirely.
the problem I have with Kurupt is that I can't stand him when he's not excellent. I like his earlier stuff a lot, when he's on a freestyle/MC tip ala Dogg Food or Doggystyle, but I find him incredibly ridiculous and not credible when he acts gangsta, it's like dude has no charisma at all and his redundant verses "daz dpg kurupt 12 gauge shotty at the party" are very hard to listen to
on Tha Streetz he's good at times, but as it's been said it's more like a posse album, with a dope westcoast vibes and solid production throughout (fredwreck, daz, soopa, blaqthoven, organized noise)
on Space Boogey he was average on the mic except for a few cuts but the production was solid for the most part and there were serious bangers (some terrible songs too).
I though SDDS was decent and a bit underrated as it came out after he squashed the beef with daz, with little to no promo, a low budget video and all.
-
The East Coast disc of Kuruption! always sounded completely freestyled, which is impressive, but horrible at the same time. Plus, the never-heard-of-again list of rappers and producers REALLY dragged the disc down. I don't think I could listen to the East Coast disc in 1 sitting again and keep my sanity (and I'm a huge Kurupt fan).
-
the problem I have with Kurupt is that I can't stand him when he's not excellent.
This is what people are going through when they listen to his albums, then call them garbage.
When in fact the albums are no worse than your average Jay-Z release
-
I think Kuruption is a great album. I do agree though that half the east coast disc if average but some of the songs on there are dope as fuck. "game" and "no feelings" being my two faves.
Petey, you dont like tracks like "c-walk" or "make some noise", "fresh", "ask yourself a question" etc?

There were definitely some nice songs on that album, I think it was jut viewed as a huge letdown cause of what it couldve been.

Kurupt is definitely disappointing when you think of how good he used to be, but even taking that out of the equation, a lot of his material for the better part of the last decade was just flat. Don't get me wrong, there's always a few songs I like off his projects and he can still bring it at times, but to act like he's been a consistently dope rapper this entire time is an enormous stretch.

Yeah i cant lie i was a bit disappointed when i first heard it. No Snoop, not many DPG features(as far as dropping verses) , no name rappers, no big name east coast stars(buckshot and Noreaga was about it, if i recall), some whack hooks.
Westcoast cd had great production though.

yeah there's barely a middle ground with him, he's either excellent or terrible. Jay-Z is way more consistent in terms of flow and lyrics, that's for sure, even if one can get tired of his bragadoccio (which in all fairness sounds better than kurupt's own bragadoccio lol).
-
Definitely will check out the album. Quik always comes with some innovative beats

'It's A Set Up' 'Game' 'Gimmewutchagot' are dope as fuck , I guess all the other grimey tracks are like fingernails down the backboard to purest West coast heads™

i think petey was originally right when he said he felt the east coast disc was the one that was extremely sub-par
will, u just weird...ur the first person i heard say east coast disc>west coast disc. not just a regional thing, the west coast disc was far superior, either way

Didn't say it was better.
Said the West disc takes some time to find it's groove.., then (if u listen back to back) the East side just knocks.
It's a full body of work. It works well as a 2 disc, not out of context.

I got it down as a 7/10 (3.5/5)

East Coast disc was more lyrical with tracks like "Game" and "Gimmewatchugot" while West Coast had better production, "Fresh", "We Can Freak It", "C-Walk"...

Reasonable Doubt is pretty generic (but I know u like that)
Bizarre Ride & Regulate have dope singles and a lot of filler (commercial formula)
Kurupts album is original, he's a dope mc..half of its grimy (raww dogg assassin lol) he dropped some of his best non death row material on it. In 98 everyone was disappointed, but to me it's a dope listen. I'd rather have 2 discs with a couple weaker tracks than a so so 1 disc from him. The east/west coast concept works.
All are about the same for different reasons. ;)

Regulate have dope singles and a lot of filler
Okay now it's getting ridiculous. Where the fuck do you find lots of fillers on Regulate? And Ya Don't Stop Might not be great but I'd consider every other actual song on it more great than just good. Explain yaself!! :D

Meaning the 'lead track' or tracks on an album stand out a mile from the rest.
Nearly all commercial albums put all focus on the singles (and maybe the intro) and the rest of the album is a noticeably lesser quality - makes for an inconsistent listen
-

The great Heinz (RIP) once described rap music as Afro Americans talking Ebonics to mathematic rhythms and beats
If thats all you want then Bizarre Ride is for you. You got some dope shit no doubt, but a lot of it is dudes yelling weak shit fast like a freestyle
-
gtfohwtbs these dudes were writing some creative shit over backwords hendricks riffs and went pop with that shit...in an age when rap especially wc rap was known for being so notoriously misogynistic and violent toward women they crossed over with a track about getting dissed.
.....over backwards hendricks riffs.
do you really believe that garbage mate? or are you just backed in a corner by your own rating system?

I'm not saying 99% of Gangsta rap is better. You play me a Gansta album thats as good as Bizarre Ride and I'll give u pound P (no Euros)
Gimme the singles on Vinyl and I'll cherish them - the albums just not great

the album was so much greater then the singles although otha fish is one of my fave songs
the jazzy interludes
classic skits (quintons on his way)
e swifts murky but yet somehow cheerful jazzy prefunk
unique voices and deliveries
concepts and stories about everything from smoking weed with toddlers to having to make the decision to wake his girl up or beat off lmao its fun stuff.
this album was the equivalent to a westcoast midnight marauders your talking like it was a cookie cutter record and thats bullshit. no one else could have made that album.

Midnight Marauders is way ahead of it
It got 'unique voices and deliveries' sure but it's about content backing them up and fleshing the record out
What u hearing is more of a certain hiphop aesthetic on the album, they just creating a soundscape.
Like grimy sound gets some heads goin, slick shit, jazzy shit, fonky shit, ignant G shit etc etc.

it's funny you give Do You See and So Many Ways 6.5 cause they're clearly among the best G-Funk tracks ever produced. Do You See is basically the best you will ever get from Warren G, so when that came out shit was mindblowing. Warren flipped that Mama Used To Say song (classic btw), and added a banging beat, while telling a compelling story. not the best story telling ever but shit was more entertaining that his abc nursery rhyme type of raps he displays on a lot of songs. if we're judging from a rap standpoint it's not that great but from a musical standpoint, meaning as a whole, shit is worth a good 8, that's what you'd expect from a classic g-funk song.
So Many Ways is kinda redundant lyrically and it's a good thing Wayniac chimes in to drop a verse but god damn the production is unreal. Warren G sampled that Cameo classic and tweaked the melody (unlike Sean T who made a different use (but also classic) of the sample for his single Get Gone), to me it's really one of the finest productions from Warren G. easily a 8 in terms of G-Funk. rapwise it's not very interesting but that's the type of orgasmic songs where the melody blows you away.

Can be. Depends where it was in the case
-
yall are right my pothead recollection was hazy maybe i assumed it was the first becasue its the first one i listened to when i bought it.
for some reason even though the production is all noteworthy like bouli i cant really ever get through the whole disc i skip around ffave tracks being the bonus track with gonzo
this ones for you and cwalk we can freak it was the joint but man it got so played out. and like bouli i can hardly tolerate him when hes not on his A game...
i dont understand how he cant find his old voice....his old mic presence. how does that happen to rappers? its like the confidence in his voice is just gone and he sounds so uninspired after streets is a motha

I just listened to their new track "demons carol" i didn't even realize that it was out. Ah, interesting track. Quik sounding very dark, aggressive, pissed off and kurupt spits some nice lyrics. Strange beat but it dose fit the title of the track.

Yeah, this track leaked a while back, I think it is pretty dope. Quik is at his best either when he is angry and dissing people or when he's real laidback and fucking bitches. The nigga is truly bipolar.
