Title: The Super Duper T.I. "Trap Muzik" Appreciation Thread! (Oh So Sweet)
Post by: Lunatic on May 15, 2008, 05:53:35 PM
get ready for a long ass post ;D

Someone just requested a link for this album from me in my PM box and it brought back memories ;D

I remember back in early 2003 when I first heard T.I...I was 12 years old and the hit track "Never Scared" was dominating the air waves..The first time I saw the video, my attention went straight to the third verse (T.I.) and I was like "who the fuck was that"  :o  so a few months went by and I kept bumping that track wondering who this T.I. was...btw if you've been hiding under a rock: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fF6UYdZASc8

About 2-4 months later, I'm watching BET and hear that familiar voice - It's T.I. with his first single and the first track I ever heard from him, "24s." The track was fucking banging and at this point I told myself "iight that never scared wasn't a one time thing, this dude is dope."

So I do my research and see 24s is actually the first single from his forthcoming "Trap Muzik" LP. I continue my research and find that he had actually already dropped 1 album already, "I'm Serious" on Arista Records in 2001. I go around everywhere searching for it and can't find it. Although I had only heard 1 guest appearance and 1 song of his, I NEEDED to cop that album..I was only 12 going everywhere trying to find it haha

Finally I give up and have one of the stores order it for me..I paid $33 for that shit and don't regret it..although he sounded mad young, the album was great and definitely made him 1 of my new fav artists (bday money)

So eventually Trap Muzik drops on August 19 2003..I go to the local record store (now 13 years old) and am excited as fuck to cop it..Again, the store doesn't carry it and tell me I gotta order it..the way it works is, its a record they COULD have had but figured it wasnt gonna sell anything so they didnt bother ordering it..So they place a "special order" (same as I'm Serious) and I pay another $33 for it ($66 on two albums LOL).

I remember the first time I heard the album..that shit gave me chills! i really sat back, cleared my mind, and played it while paying full attention to it

I was 13 years old and that was the first "THAT ALBUM" for me..first time I ever really truly, greatly appreciated music..the creativity, uniqueness, and message of this album was just so damn easy to stick to..again the first time I ever really "connected" with music was with this album

The lyrics on this album are just so real and truthful that it still blows my mind..easily my favorite album of all time (for the dubcc haters: i'm NOT saying its the greatest album ever or even close..if i had to pick one album to keep and had to give away the rest...Trap Muzik the one i'm keeping <-- put it that way).

the opening track (self titled) does a nice job of setting the album up..props to Mac Boney for murdering it

"I give my n*ggas recipes/so they can turn to something else/they love to work/that's why i keep em comin/like collection plates/we flip the cake/move this shit from georgia/baby state to state/attemadate/n*ggas in the city/who've been losing weight/nobody loosing weight/they fuck with us/cause you've been known to hate/demonstrate/the way we turned the trap/out in 98/started out in 95/started out with nicks and dimes/n*gga u done lost yo mind/thinking u could set up shop/pimpin i respect the game/let's take this to another block."

the next track is "I Can't Quit" and T.I. catches you're attention from the get go opening up with dope lyrics such as
"I'm this far from being a star/and just that close to quittin/i never should of came close to missing/but i want to be a musician/pimpin not a politician/listen feel my posistion/its a rough transition."  <<-- perfectly sums up how most artists who don't go pop must feel about he game and all the bullshit politics it brings.

goes on: Plus I'm way to deep in the game to be trying to change/for fortune and fame and glamor/i could be in the slammer/or six feet under Atlanta/its a blessing to breath/i walk the streets with seven felonies i'm blessed to be free/long as somebody up in heaven who keep blessin the G/T.I.P.'a still be blessing CD's/so haters you can see these/cause im back now with something to prove/everything to gain/pimpin nothing to lose." and "some of the people/some of the times/some of you rhyme but might not like one of my lines/i tell what/i let y'all criticize me one at a time/for those of y'all who think im cocky/get in front of the line."  <<-- just the 2nd track on the album and u can already feel the energy and hunger 8)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnehhbIakvQ

next up is "Be Easy" (the 2nd single and one of the best records on the album). "im 22 and a vet in the game/say im supercoo/still a threat at the same/time rhyme bout the times i invested in caine/pleasure and pain/every aspect of the game/im the answer to ya prayers if u praying for change/so how dare ya compare us and say we da same?/when im climbin the ladder, they stuck in the same/mindframe, they accomplishments are nothin to gain/eventually you'll see im out of ya range/except this rose gold glow from my wrist and my chain/i entertain young n*ggas who slang/like a picture no frame, see it simple and plain/my shit bang/spit flames/put n*ggas to shame/flow so insane/lyrics sick and derranged/now you cant mention my city less u mention my name/I'm T.I.P.I.M.P i'm the manye."
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNU5EUgRfH0

next up is "No More Talk" and probably has the best, most real hook ever (shouts out to GB for havin it in his sig).
"aint no more talk/just start n*ggaz off till aint no more chalk/or no mp tape to outline no mo scenes/or no mo crimes/ no my dying fo no me phenes/or no mo rims and things and no mo green/an no mo chains and ring's that go bling bling/and no mo passionate rappin and so it seems/it's just these talentless rappers and they all acting." <<- real statement about the game right now..

T.I. also dropped IMO probably the BEST verse of his entire career on this track.

"I'm either running for my life or i'm just waiting to die/i'm the supplier of fire if you chasin a high/its never when or why, its the way that he die/did he stand like a man til the day that he die?/or was he, reaching for guns or trying to run/or was he outside on the lawn in front of his son/and if ya, running ya mouth u can die in the slums/cuz in the, south where im from they dying for crumbs/you can die for ya patna or die for ya mom's/or u could die cuz your n*gga just heard the alarm/or die in a plane they say its a bomb/when they run into a tower, they just say its saddam/screaming allah the moment that it's hitting the building/with total disregard for all men women and children/see n*ggaz get killed when ppl mix they money with feelings/I'm filling my money up in the wall and some in the ceiling/i'm just one in million of n*ggaz who ?/its a war going on and they killing for nothing/we were in denial all awhile they were flicking the buttons/i'd rather be dying for something instead of living for nothing/end of discussion."
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcZLMYIxtt0&feature=related

next up is the kanye west produced "doin my job" and has a nice message to it..went through the trouble of uploading this one for y'all
http://www.zshare.net/download/12086427f99f8029/

Track 6 is the 4th single summer time anthem "Lets Get Away" and i'm sure most of y'all heard this one so wont go indepth with it..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ny4R8bQ2WQ

Track 7 is the first single, "24s" y'all already know..1st track I ever heard from TI and is still a southern car classic IMO
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1F8R5Rgj_LU

Track 8 was the third and most successful single and kept the album moving units..another i'm sure y'all heard "Rubber Band Man"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BT8cP3T2V0

that's half the album...if this thread goes well and what not, i'll add the 2nd half 8)

also dont be a hater..if u disagree cool, but do it in a mature manner at least..feel free to add ya thoughts on the album or another musical experience such as I had with this one

Yeah it's a very good album. This one & King are tied as my favorites with I'm Serious & T.I. vs. T.I.P. after as 2nd & 3rd. 8)

I'm about the same age as you, I remember when I first heard him on Bone Crusher's "Never Scared" and when "24's" came out... I never actually heard that album though, I've only heard King and T.I. VS T.I.P. and some misc. tracks from his other albums

could you shoot me a link to this album? (preferably GroupRip  ;D)  8)

It's a nice album, but I never liked 24's, that song was irritating.

24s is boring to me. But this is probably the best we'll ever see of TI its a good album. 4/5 Got some bangers got a couple fillers!

Great thread, great post, +1 Lunatic.

This was the first TI album I heard, and I only bought it about a year ago - I'd always read about the guy but never copped or even dowloaded his music. But it's an amazing album, really superb. You missed my favourite line on 'Be Easy' though, and that's where he says something like "I give these people what they've want to see / A relection of one self where they aim to be." (might not be exactly right, but it's near enough). That's such a simple but deep comment on the ability of rappers to insipre listeners and kids (the gun charges? not so much).

I'ma bump this album tonight.

DJ Toomp made some bangers for that album. "Be Easy", "24's", and "Look What I Got" are my favorites.

I'm gonna go ahead and say that Trap Muzik is the best rap record of this rap generation. I can't think of any modern rap record thats anywhere near as good.

oh alright, well i'm with u on that..its definitely one of the best albums to come out in quite some time. Urban Legend had some filler I agree; King was DOPE, u didnt like it? I do like TI VS TIP, but it doesnt have as much replay value as most of his albums and lacks substance.

I was 12 when this came out but TI never made it across tot the UK like most of the new southern acts. Were all seen as wack compared to the SHady Aftermath movement at the time as well as the Rocafella movement.

Yea all them other records had maybe a few good songs each but overall I thought the quality of those albums was shitty. I'm Serious is better than everything that came out after Trap Muzik to me.

Yeah it seems everything after 'Trap Muzik', the record label had more control over what to put out but he still has put out a good share of dope tracks over the last few years.

Yeah I'll agree to that. Becuz around this time BET was my life. :D Lol, and I used to like the nigga alot. Of course. Cuz homie was raw. I loved all the nigga's singles until that ladies joint there. 'Rubberband Man' I used to blast the FUCK out. '24's' too. The video, though, when the nigga said that shit about his grandmother, that grandmother line, I used to use the fuck outta that. LMAO. 'Be Eazy' was like the a hood anthem. So smooth and gutta.

Like now though, I can't stand dude. It's crazy shit. It's like that with every artist. I like them becuz they come out raw and hood, but after a minute in the game, they go Hollywood and ladies man and I lose COMPLETE interest. And than they try to go raw and hood again. And I just don't go for that. I mean the T.I. who put out Trap Muzik is not the same T.I. on that Justin Timberlake song.

But really though, after that 'You Don't Know Me' record, (that was the name of it word? :P), is when I really lost interest in T.I.. :-\

But propz to Luna's first post. That's dedication right there.
