Some guy whose claimed to have heard the album said that "Throw It Away" & "My Life" are the only two mainstream sounding songs. We'll see how this is.

Budden said "The Other Side" is probably one the of the best songs.
Also to the dude above, like I said, some guy said "My Life" & "Throw It Away" are the only awful songs.

Most of the beats sound very generic ... that's the best overall production they could come up with ? The label did really fuck this album up
-
This is going to blow.
11-16 sounds dope. But everything before just sounds like trash. Hopefully they all come with insane bars.

IN what world was hammer dance trash?!?!?!? lol coffin sounds like a banger, get up sounds lik it could be dope. our house cant even judge. but pretty much all of them u cant judge. only think u can hear from this is that the production could have been a lil better. 15 second snippets aint and cant be a let down for me tho

writing off an album due to 15 second snippets is hilarious

Reserving judgement until we get the leak, which shouldn't be too far off :D
-
Reserving judgement until we get the leak, which shouldn't be too far off :D
We'll probably get it before the mixtape at this rate.
But I mean listening to the snippets again, I can hear there will be some bangers on here. But I don't really want bangers, that's what the mixtape was supposed to be for; hard, raw lyrics. Plus an album-promoted banger is different than a typical Slaughterhouse banger.
Like "Hammer Dance" for example. Go listen to "Woodstock" (one of their best bangers) & compare it lyrically to "Hammer Dance". It's not in the same universe. & I won't even start talking about "Throw It Away" lol. Just generic lines; sounds like 50 Cent is ghostwriting for them lol. When Slaughterhouse's original appeal was that lyrically they are above everyone. So having them dumb down lyrics is just stupid lol. Shady can't win outside of well...Shady lol.
-
Real hip hop is back!
-
I listened to the first 11 snippets and sounded pretty good to me. the production on the first album was pretty shit, this certeranly dosent sound any worse 8)

Any word on a no DJ version of the mixtape?

Any word on a no DJ version of the mixtape?
Drama finds the whole "No DJ" versions disrespectful so I wouldn't hold me breath. He keeps his tags to a minimum these days though so it shouldn't be an issue.

Very solid album.

Well that was a pleasant surprise. I'll reserve complete judgment after a few more spins. But after one... :o
-
dl'ing now....gonna crack a tall can and bump, thoughts tmrw
-
This is cool if you like nowadays hip pop ... could the production be more generic/soft ?...too many sung choruses ..
First album ( while far from perfect) was much better ...
-

LOL
eminem really needs to OD and end it already!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this dude is singing hooks with tears rolling down his stroke face in a million dollar studio!!!!!!!!!!!!
and slaughters holding his hand through it all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL @ this "beat"
so emotional... so gripping... trash can lids clashing while eminem over complicates his flow and spits super technical garbage that intimidates the wack slaughter boys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL @ this train wreck
EPIC
poor slaughtr fans...
must be like watching your girlfriend wave out the back of the car as she moves away...
and the car blowing up when you wave back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BHWWHWHBAHAHAHAHABAHWHHAHAHA
these guys are getting dropped or locked away in interscopes complex!!!!!!!!!!!!!
eminem will be gearing up to release a new album to pay jimmy back...
em... just jump man... hes strung out... scared of getting killed..
marshall mathers is dead and zombie eminem is waiting for plastic surgery for his next public appearence!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Well that was a pleasant surprise. I'll reserve complete judgment after a few more spins. But after one... :o
I agree. I can't believe Joe Budden was left off "Our House" & "Asylum", both those tracks seem made for him.
-
THIS ALBUM SUCKS, FUCK THIS GROUP AND THIS ALBUM!!!
-
Album is all over the place. Sounds overproduced on several tracks and they sound so awkward trying to make more radio friendly and catchy songs.
And the mixing is terrible.
-
Sounds like Radioactive and Recovery :( Really ain't feeling this Shady 2.0. Albums a real mixed bag, there's some good stuff on there but the album sounds like it executively produced by Young Money/MMG, really don't like the majority of the production on the album, sounds like all the other shit on the radio. Shady can get beats of whoever he wants, Slaughterhouse need Alchemist, Premo, Just Blaze, Khalil instead he gets beats from all the 'in' producers of 2012. Who in my option make bad hip hop. I've really low expectations for Em's new album now.
Between this and the mixtape there's plenty of good stuff to listen to though, just hope this don't fuck up there chance of dropping a third album.
-
nice album, you cant expect their album sound just like their mixtapes? or like their last album which sounded just like mixtape (was good tho)
-
plus they said it themselves that they picked beats only that 4 of them liked. they made those songs or picked the beats that you dont like, not label or eminem, so if you want, blame slaughterhouse for it
-
''FLIP A BIRD FLIP A BIRD FLIP A BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRD'' <---- WTF...
Album is nothing special. Boring industry beats, lame hooks, HORRIBLE mixing.
Some songs had some really dope verses with some dope rhymeschemes and storytelling but overall disappointing album.
Our House, Coffin, Flip A Bird, Rescue Me are examples of great joints RUINED by their hooks.
Crook said ''Hope you got a powerful chin // cause they say - Blowjobs are flowers for men'' ;D
Die is my fav joint! Royce, Crook and Joe snapped! and Joell was left out. wonderful!
-
Get Up, samples and vocal samples from Atony Genn, from The Hours - Ali In The Jungle Official Video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6nRGEXPEIw&feature=related
-
Really? I think this is better than the first album.
I highly prefer a song sounding song with a chorus that just "ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra...some wack hook...ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra". These verses have some substance.
Our House
Get Up
Rescue Me
Frat House
Goodbye
Park It Sideways
Die
Our Way
Asylum
The Other Side
These songs are great. Outside of Microphone & Sound Off, I'd put any of these songs up with the rest of the debut album.
Then again, I really don't mind girls on hooks. I mean, I don't know what it takes away from a song, but apparently to some of you manly-manly men it's just "wrong" lolol.
-
for the 1st hearin i like it.

yeah Eminem had the chance to get them beats from Premo and Dre and failed. we know a Dre song with SH on it exists too because Crooked said so like half a year ago.
and how could they NOT get a Premo beat? Royce's album in 2010 had like 6 fucking PRemo beats. god damn Royce had to hog them all...lol
and Crooked had some HOT beats on his Psalm album that probably could have been Slaughter beats. Imagine that "3 the hard way" with the other 3 guys in SH rapping on it 8) or "fuck you pay me" with twista as the guest and SH rapping. that shit would be fire.
oh well I guess we gotta take what they gave.....
-
I haven't heard all the songs, but these are the best producers they could get? some wack beats from T-Minus and Alex Da Kid? thank god for that No I.D. track. and Skylar Grey is no big singer, they could have picked someone better as well
-
T-Minus is actually a fly producer, have no idea why they picked these 2 beats though.

yeah Eminem had the chance to get them beats from Premo and Dre and failed. we know a Dre song with SH on it exists too because Crooked said so like half a year ago.
and how could they NOT get a Premo beat? Royce's album in 2010 had like 6 fucking PRemo beats. god damn Royce had to hog them all...lol
and Crooked had some HOT beats on his Psalm album that probably could have been Slaughter beats. Imagine that "3 the hard way" with the other 3 guys in SH rapping on it 8) or "fuck you pay me" with twista as the guest and SH rapping. that shit would be fire.
oh well I guess we gotta take what they gave.....
They had a Premo beat. It did not make the final cut for the album.

to be fair a premo beat wouldn't of fitted in that well on an album full of pop beats.
just bumped it and gotta say it's weak. the rapping is obviously going to be of a quality but the direction of the production is way, way too poppy. maybe even moreso than eminem's recovery LP. i dunno wtf they were thinking with this, but it doesn't work for me. it's like a pop album with rapping. i expected there to be some mainstream production but this is really off the deep end.
-
There's some dope songs on here. But its not a good album. There's some horrible tracks on here. Their debut was a solid album and this is a significant step down. Hard to take this group as a serious threat anymore.

Well i ordered my copy of the deluxe edition today, will pick it up Tuesday. iam looking forward to hearing it and judging it for myself. Gonna give the mix tape a listen tonight.

the mixtape has a more hip hop vibe as opposed to the album which is mainly pop. a shame it's not mixed because you can barely hear the beats properly with the loud vocals. limits its playability.

Disappointed to hear so much negative feedback for the album. I'll check it based on the fact that I'm fans of all the artists as solo guys but I'm not expecting much.

nope, but i didn't expect the album to be so strongly pop sounding. i mean the mixtape isn't that street or anything, but a pretty strong contrast to the LP...
-
album is poor if you ask me, sounds more like an eminem album than a slaughterhouse album
-

definitely more recovery (emo-pop) than relapse (horrorcore/comic). i could imagine SH ripping a lot of the beats on relapse and making much better tracks than eminem.

not to necessarily disagree with you since i myself dont think this is the way they should approach their album, but i guess they just wanted to use interscope resources, cause i doubt they would be able to get alex da kid or skylar grey in the studio or to get boi-1da, No I.D., Hit-Boy, T-Minus beats

Production is so bland ... both Yela and SH albums sound Recovery-ish ... not sure what is the purpose of making a whole album of poppy tunes since both acts won't sell shit regardless ..

seems more about eminem steering the project toward what's worked for him in the mainstream, as opposed to just using resources. like someone else said, he could of got them on dre and premo beats no problem. how about jake one? khalil? and it's not like there's just a few of the blatantly pop sounding beats, it's most of the album. to my ears it doesn't fit with SH. an introspective track here or there, but not a whole album of it. aside from hammerdance, i find the few harder sounding tracks dissapointing too.
there's nothing that comes close to their early material and the first album beats it for something i can happily bump.

doubtfuly eminem told them on what beats to rap on, since they said it themselves that they only picked beats that all 4 of them liked, probably wanted to appeal to bigger audiences themselves. plus i remember yela saying that many of radioactive's songs was already made before joining eminem. Also em himself had khalil, just blaze and dre on recovery and it still sounded pop like, so maybe thats just the way hip hop sounds nowadays, i mean even nas had that random ass swizz track on his album

^ Yeah but thats how SH album should have been. A whole bunch of Reach Out, Back When, Queens Story, Roses, Daughters, Nasty, You Wouldnt Understand etc. and then ONE ''Summer On Smash'' joint like My Life.
If an album has one radio cut on it I cant be mad at that but the whole damn album? Hell no.
And btw.. Do you really think they would go out and say they were handed WACK beats BEFORE the album is released? No sir, that would be the dumbest move ever if your plan is to have the album out.
I wouldnt be surprised if one of them started bitchin real soon about the album direction, beats, promotion etc.

I agree that thats how their album should sound like, but since they failed to do so with their debut, its silly to believe they would do it on major. Also even tho i like them they are not to be compared with nas, nas can make ALBUMS, SH is good for verses, songs (even tho i like this one).

lol theres only so few acts in hip hop history who can be compared with Nas.
random to bring him into it

I think their debut is as close to "ideal" as the group is gonna get.

Crook still delivers some funny shit though.

Crooked delivered on everything, as expected 8)
Crooked's first verse on the Cee Lo song is the only reason I can stomach that song.

truth. Only thing is I hate when Crook starts spellin shit. It just sounds lame.
Like he absolutely had to spell out Eminem and Jay-z on Die?
Doesnt matter though. Still my all time fav 8)

The album isn't as bad as all you are making out. Sure it would of been great to hear them rapping over more "hip-hop" beats but the album still goes hard. After listening to the album straight through most of the tracks are great. Most people were complaining about the production the the first album so they switch it up and everyone still complains.
We all know Jimmy Iovine isn't going to release an album full of Preemo, ALC & Khalil beats.

I'd guess it'd sound like "Microphone". Gonna listen to the album tonight, surprised Buddens ain't on the opener, Em came weak on that shit as well, didn't mind the hook though.

I was very surprised Budden wasn't on the first track. They could of taken Eminem's little singing part off to fit him on. He should of been on Asylum too.

yeah Asylum was a perfect song for Budden to be on...Royce coulda been left off that
and the intro song had a HORRIBLE hook but the beat and raps are nice
i still say Coffin is the best song from this CD, but just like my favorite track on the last cd (Salute) the raps are too short!

Them rapping over beats of Primo, Khalil, Alchemist, Nottz, Jake One and M-Phazes. That would be ideal for me.

I listened to it last night.
It's marginally better than the Mixtape. A bit forced, a bit dumb...unambitious, quality shifts about. There are a couple really nice tracks then no so. But overall the Mixtape had more stuff I liked on it.
It's one of those album that if it was an underground effort you could give it a pass, but from where it's come from and the names involved its kind of an expected disappointment.
6.5/10

Probably one of the worst album in recent years, based on what they can do. Man, that single Hammerdance was DOPE wish they had songs like that on their album but mannnnn it really really sucks

Snoop, Eminem, Aftermath keeping production in house and getting nowhere.
Nas and Rock Ross put out 2 dope albums this year chock full of hot beats. Even Busta Rhymes' free album was as good as WTOH, and that was more like a mix tape

you asked what people would prefer, someone told you, then you say they wouldn't like it anyway. maybe give people's opinions a little more respect...they may genuinely not like the album because of the direction it took. perhaps it has nothing to do with being impossible to please. maybe the same people don't enjoy albums like recovery or a lot of the rap crossover stuff these days. people listen for different things in different genres...
likewise i see a few of the posters in this thread construing criticism as a vendetta against SH. again, i think it's got a lot more to do with the sound of the album. it's reasonable that a group like SH in particular is going to get flak for going in this direction.
-
Nobody who was a SH fan before My Life would complain if the album sounded like Life Is Good or if Khalil, Premo etc. produced it.
__
They all sound the most comfortable on Hammer Dance. Beat and their flows really fit each other.
They sound uncomfortable on most other tracks. It just sounds way too forced.

C'mon, the first album was like that. Maybe not Premo but him scratching the entire song is boring anyway; but they had 80% banging beats or "not poppy" beats & they rapped with almost no substance outside of "Rain Drops" & we got "Wow, can they make a song for their lives?".
Outside of the singles, I don't know what's "awful" about any other song. Personally "The Other Side", "Our House" & "Get Up" are three of the best songs & I'd say they sound the most "poppy".
It's almost like you guys listen to two seconds of the song & just skipping past them ripping the song in half lyrically.

Since when was pop a substitute for substance? :eh: The two are mutually exclusive, one having to do with the sound of an album and the other having to do with the songwriting of an album. The production on their debut was much better than the production on this. I remember you saying you didn't like Recovery so you should understand why people aren't digging this. Don't know why you're arguing.

oh my, there's nothing wrong with the rapping on this album. i'm talking about the feel of it from a production perspective. when it comes to music, style is substance. both form and the lyrical content have a part to play in the overall experience. how much these factors effect people varies from person to person, but it's bigger than just the words. i'm not making an argument about the album lacking lyrical substance, that's a straw man. i didn't have that complaint about the first album either.
i'm saying the album's production sounds deliberately poppy. it sounds like recovery. that's a turn off. too many singing hooks and atmospheric beats. some tracks are straight up corny (my life, throw that, throw it away). while far from ideal, the first album didn't sound like this. it doesn't seem like you mind or get the same vibe, which is fine, but more than a couple of people here do. some of the posters are defending this like there's no legitimate way anyone could dislike it. i disagree and just because SH going to a major label with eminem makes it predictable, doesn't mean they get a pass.

it's just opinions, it shouldn't bother you.
the album doesn't sound authentic, but generic.
-
All I'm saying is they kill it lyrically & their entire fan base & attraction is listening to them lyrically. So why we're so critical over production is beyond me.
Then again, I have zero complaints with "Our House", "Get Up", "Goodbye", "The Other Side" & "Rescue Me"; arguably the most poppy sounding songs.
I didn't like Recovery because Eminem overall was sub-par. But "Love The Way You Lie", "Space Bound" & "25 To Life" were the best three songs on it & I still find myself listening to those songs every now & again & they're poppy sounding as fuck. Maybe I just listen to it as music & not "Well it better have this sounding production, which this specific sounding flow, etc, etc. to be considered Hip Hop" & if I like how it sounds with the lyrical content they're capable of, I have no complaints.

That's probably the greatest album of all-time to me, but the beats didn't "wow" me.

Illmatic?

I've given this album a few spins now and I've got to say I'm not mad. Maybe from the reviews I was expecting a steaming pile of shit. Although the direction is on the poppier side (hooks mainly), the rappers are still on point and there are some hard tracks on there. Favourite tracks so far would be "Get Up", "Rescue Me" (sick beat), "Die" and "Our Way", "Flip A Bird" is hard as fuck, just the hook get's mad irritating. The only track which I'm going to always skip is "Throw It Away", track is average in every way.
Also I don't get why Budden was left of both the Eminem assisted tracks, he would of murked "Asylum". I would of liked to hear more Eminem production as well, his dark stuff would actually fit Slaughterhouse. Album is probably a 7/10 at the moment. will have to see if it grows on me or gets stale. "Recovery" got very stale to me, but I always though "Relapse" was the stronger album, would love to hear Slaughter get beats like on that album.

You didn't just compare this album's production to illmatic. This cookie cutter pop shit to NY State of Mind, Life's a Bitch or The World is Yours? You're fucking insane. Go to your room Ryan.

So what does that change now? People still look back & love beats Dre made on the first Chronic.

Even the production Nas just got on "Life Is Good" isn't that great, but I still think the album is great because Nas just goes in on every song.
I think you guys just need to come to realization that:
1. You just flat out hate Slaughterhouse & won't give them credit no matter what they do or put out.
2. Have a bland taste in Hip Hop where you want everything to sound the same.
3. Can't fuck with anything having to do with mainstream no matter the sound due to close-mindedness.

The production on Illmatic is really incredible. The world is yours is your is probably Pete Rock best work, and he's my favorite producer ever. What's so good about these beats? They changed the way producers tried to sound after that and influenced a whole generation of beatmakers. The sound is so cohesive but yet you can recognize every producer on the album.
This Slaughterhouse album? I just can't understand how someone says, ''you should like the album, the raps are good, idc 'bout the beat'', the fuck? It's music, not poetry. If you only like lyrics, go read some books. The production on this album sucks, doesn't match their style at all. I guess if you don't mind listening to generic beats with no cohesion with poppy shitty singers on the hook, but with great raps, this album is for you

1. We liked their debut. Wrong.
2. We're the ones with bland taste when you're the one stanning the blandest sounding album of the year? :eh: Wrong. We want Slaughterhouse to put out fire instead of trying to sound like Recovery 2.0
3. I don't know about anyone else, but I fuck with a lot of mainstream music. Prossibly more than you do. Wrong again.
I don't even know why I'm replying, you lost all credibility by bringing up illmatic. Comparing its classic production to this is a self ether on the level of when radiotube compared Gucci Mane to Nas. And anyway we all know you'll hate this album in a few weeks, just like when you were stanning Recovery and then later changed your mind.

Life Is Good isn't great because Nas goes in on every song. It's great because it's a cohesive album, that you can play from top to bottom. Basically a full body of work. Something which the Slaughterhouse album ain't.

lol @ saying I "compared" the two. I'm just saying the beats on Illmatic weren't amazingly out of this world. One Love is probably my favorite song off that album, but the beat is simple as fuck. Y'all just weren't as harsh on those albums. End of the day, a nigga can sound dope over me beat boxing. Classic production is just icing on the cake, but cake tastes good no matter what.
& you guys "liked the first album?". Hack, get on your thread bump grind. I'm pretty sure more than half the feedback was shitting on the production there too & the fact they rapped about nothing.
But I guess I should expect people on Dubcc, who rep Dre, Game & Snoop to the fullest would prefer beats over lyrics.

i don't think you're really listening to what's being said about the album. this stubbon line of arguing hit a brick wall a while back and you're still repeating the same stuff. makes no sense. i already said it's nothing to do with a vendetta against SH and that people have different tastes within genres. it's only logical that a lot people who enjoyed the previous SH material won't be feeling the vibe of this album. we're talking the transition from a more hip hop sound to urban pop melodies. you can't just seperate beats and lyrics like that, especially with a full on LP.
then to brush that all aside and make broad assumptions about people's musical tastes is straight up cheap and arrogant. personally my taste spans a lot of genres, decades and includes loads of mainstream/pop music. just because some of the current 'urban' sounds are being hated on doesn't speak to people's musical background. some people just know what they like. and i'm always open to something new if it works but this SH album isn't it.
-
if i had to pick another standout track besides 'hammer dance', 'get up' is dope. even with a more mainstream sounding production, No I.D. stays killing it. and crooked 8)

Snap. People who say anyone can make a banger, with the right production etc etc
Garbage/dumb/lazy lyrics are a waste of good beats. Dope spittin over cheap beats, bad mixin etc = also a waste
This album is nice in places but Em and his sidekicks are mostly taking 'route one' in their concepts and execution. Its a well trodden path, but we've all heard it before...and better.
-
I would of preferred a more "Hip-Hop" sound to the album but I'm still really liking the album. If they would of trimmed off a few tracks it would of went together a lot nicer.
The song featuring B.o.B. goes hard 8)

My copy should be in after work tomorrow so hopefully i can check it out and drop my opinion.
Mix tape had instant appeal(aside from track one though^^; lol ) i get the feeling the actual album may take a few listens.
-
havent listened to the album yet...but having looked at the production credits and seen Hit Boy, Boi 1nda, Kane Beatz and Alex Da Kid all over it, i do have the feeling im not gonna like it as much as the first album...with that being said, i will give it a fair few spins and see how it is

Yes, beats are more important than lyrics and this is coming from a guy who values lyricism. Music is based around sound. An ideal album will have both.

Illmatic is overrated. Just needed to state that.
and I agree that a album needs both lyrics and dope beats. Not beats of a specific type/genre, they just need to be dope. Fit the music - make the whole thing sound natural. lol

Ok, so, i just listened to the album....
Hmmm.....disappointed.
It didnt start off too good and then it kinda was ok but then it just got to the point where i was like "this album is a steaming pile of shit!"
But then it got better again.
Ok so i must agree with everyone, the production is the weak point of this album. For the most part it sux or dosent fit slaughter house.
Then theres the choruses..... seriously, some of the worst shit i have EVER heard. And not only that but too much of it. Even commercial rappers like Snoop dont have an album that bad.
NO east coast style beats, no old school style beats and "my life" is possibly the worst song i have EVER heard.
And then they back that up with "flip a bird"?????????? fuck man i actually like the beat and raps on that song but worst chorus i have EVER heard.
Now, theres shit beats, shit down south stlye beats, and bad choruses. Thing that makes it worse, the songs with beats i actually quite liked are the ones with the shittest hooks!
In conclusion, the mix tape is better, i need to listen to this more before final judgement, Eminem should've rapped on this album ALOT more, they dont need features(except EM) but why not a Chino/Ras/Nas/etc??, beats(again), Snoop Malice in wonder land goes harder than this, iam glad i bought deluxe edition cos some of those bonus tracks a are good.
I actually did like some songs and some beats. Crooked almost saved some of the shit songs. I feel sorry for these guys this album is destined to go down as a disappointment and will surely flop.
Fuck needed more Eminem and even d-12 maybe lol.
I will give it another go though.

very enthusiastic feedback, almost everyone is saying the album is great, album of the year etc. only thing is common with this thread is this one dude excessively stanning it throughout. guess who that is. and some of the comments about their next project and SH working with eminem are funny in hindsight ;D

Beats are equally important. But lyrics can make or break a a good beat.
Great lyrics can elevate a beat, and sometimes better beats can carry weaker lyrics (like half of Snoop shit including Doggystyle)
But yeah its a 50/50 thing.

01. The Slaughter (Intro) – N/A
02. Our House (Feat. Eminem & Skylar Grey) – 4/5, Eminem opens with an introductory bridge, followed up by ľ of the group welcoming listeners to “their house”, then ending with a vicious verse from Eminem.
03. Coffin (Feat. Busta Rhymes) – 4/5, Joe Budden, absent from the previous song, starts this one off before the rest of the group finishes it. Busta Rhymes sounds like Fatman Scoop on the hook, which is a good thing because it brings another level of hype and energy to the record.
04. Throw That (Feat. Eminem) – 3.5/5, A comical record that could easily offend any female audiences who were anticipating some sort of love ballad on the album.
05. Hammer Dance – 4.5/5, First single that has been out for some time now, it doesn’t sound dated whatsoever and is well placed. Raw hip-hop at its finest.
06. Get Up – 3.5/5, The production is more rock-influenced, which is good for the album in terms of the group stepping out of their boundaries and diversifying their sound.
07. My Life (Feat. Cee Lo Green) – 4/5, Second single, which has the more obvious mainstream approach with the Cee-Lo hook and trance-like beat, but the verses’ aren’t watered down, they don’t sound forced, and lyrically they aren’t too over the head for radio play. Successful crossover.
08. We Did It (Skit) – N/A
09. Flip a Bird – 4/5, Hustler music. The group reminisces life before aligning together and signing to Shady for their newly attained fame. The sample used in the beat reminds me of Pusha T’s recent track “Pies” in a way.
10. Throw It Away (Feat. Swizz Beatz) – 4/5, Third and current single off the album where Swizz Beatz provides a catchy hook, complimenting the group’s rugged and rough delivery over staggering, bouncy production.
11. Rescue Me (Feat. Skylar Grey) – 4/5, A personal record where each member depicts their own personal struggles and inner demons that coincide with fame and fortune, and how music is what ultimately rescues them.
12. Frat House – 4/5, Another pure hip-hop record nothing short of the group spitting flames, making a comparison of the rap game to a college fraternity.
13. Goodbye – 5/5, Hands down, the most introspective record on the album where Crooked I, Joe Budden, and Joell Ortiz reflect on suffering personal losses at different points in their lives. Very emotional song that serves as the album’s strongest highlight.
14. Park It Sideways – 3.5/5, Celebratory moment of the album where the group toasts to success.
15. Die – 4.5/5, I’m not sure who is on the hook as nobody is credited, but they laid it down correctly setting the tone for the MCs to murder this joint.
16. Our Way – 4/5, Solid outro for the album.
OVERALL RATING: 4/5

Nah beats are more important. A dope beat can carry weak lyrics (Snoop being an example). But a lyricist can't carry a wack beat. Even Nas can't save this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PA73Es3uZck
-
I'm definitely not saying an artist can carry a wack beat, but can elevate a good beat to something better than another rapper would have

That's why I said an ideal song will have both. But beats are still more important than rhymes.

I know what you're saying but its a 51/49 thing in that case :)
Not at all because lyrics are not even necessary to make a classic song. There's many examples of this. Don't know why you're still pushing this. Lets just say beats are more important than lyrics and leave it at that.

Don't get all puckered up fam

Illmatic is not overrated. IMO.

I dont recall anyone bagging the lyrical side of things just the gay production and even gayer hooks.
Still havent givin it a second listen yet though but oh what could have been....

Bought the album yesterday and have given it a couple of spins. I'm in two minds about it at the moment.
Whilst there are quite a few decent tracks, it seems to be a case of 'too many producers spoil the broth' which has resulted in the album not having a cohesive sound. As with a lot of releases these days the album is far too long (e.g. like Snoop Dogg's latter albums) and would benefit with some of the poorer tracks being scrapped.
Some of the beats are overproduced Southern-sounding tinny productions that don't suit Slaughterhouse at all and verge on the unlistenable ('Throw That', 'Walk of Shame' and 'Coffin' immediately come to mind), and some of their subject matter sounds out of place on the beats. Eminem put in a lacklustre verse on 'Our House' and compared to the last album, the creative lines and punchlines are a little on the low side and some of the choruses are annoying as others have said. Also, I know it's pedantic but it annoys me that they have a song called 'Throw That' and a similar named joint called 'Throw it Away' on the same album.
That said, Crooked I steals the show here and his verse on 'Flip A Bird' is one of the standout points of the album for me. Also, I've always been a fan of 'Hammerdance' and 'My Life' unlike a lot of other people here, and so their inclusion on the album is a plus for me.
I think I need to give it a few more listens to really get a proper appreciation for the album but at the moment I have to say I'm a little disappointed with it. It's such a shame considering the time and the budget they had to make it. I think if they had used all of the beats from Hell: The Sequel that would have been perfect for them.
Ps: Note to Slaughterhouse - never use an Alex Da Kid beat again, Please!

Ok, gave it a second listen. Definitely sounded alot better upon another spin.
So, its not as shit as i thought. I think this time around i listened to all the lyrics more closely and i was more prepared and knew what to expect. prolly more open minded cos i already knew the album wasn't what we'd all like and expect.
But i guess we all knew slaughter house would be hard to market and a major is business rather that art form and creativity and originality.
I liked it alot more, was feelin it more. i didn't feel like songs sucked so bad or were the worst but it still is a "what could've/should've been' album.
But i had a six pack or so in me and kept drinking beer and some vodka whilst listening so maybe thats why i was liking it more.
Weird album really. A song or two reminded me some Mo thugs shit or something.

I liked it a lot more on the second listen and think it's a great album. Even "Throw It Away" is growing on me ;D

Alright, I've bumped it enough, it's time.
1. The Slaughter - N/A
2. Our House - 5/5; personal favorite off the album. Alex Da Kid's drums are a little weak, but Skylar kills the hook & all verses are extremely on point, especially Eminem's which surprised me. I heard Joe had a pretty awesome verse for this; shame they cut him off.
3. Coffin - 3.5/5; Cool for a banger, beat is a little weak. They come kinda silly lyrically, but nothing stupid. I fuck with that Busta hook though.
4. Throw That - 3/5; Catchy single. Even though Em's hook is strange as fuck, shit kinda bumps. Verses are decent, but nothing really to write home about.
5. Hammer Dance - 3.5/5; At first I fucked with this joint, but it got old kinda fast to me. I feel it's a step back lyrically, little dumbed down because it was the lead single to the album. Beat knocks, but not all that great.
6. Get Up - 4.5/5; No I.D gave them a fucking joint right here. I fuck with every aspect of this song.
7. My Life - 2/5; Never cared for this song or anything about it lol. If the entire album was like this, I'd understand where some of you are coming from.
8. We Did It - N/A...but really not needed at all.
9. Flip A Bird - 4/5; I fuck with this. Smooth flowing song. Mixed well. Chrous is unique, everyone goes in.
10. Throw It Away 1/5; Worst song ever.
11. Rescue Me - 5/5; Skylar & Alex Da Kid really don't miss, in my opinion. Joe Budden stands out, but everyone just came threw on this joint. Beat just goes in the whip.
12. Frat House - 4.5/5; "The One" on steroids. I like how they all stick to the "college" theme of this & nobody gets off track. Absolutely bangs. Joe & Joell come dope as fuck with the back & forth. Royce & Crooked kill their verses.
13. Goodbye - 5/5; One of the top joints from the album. Nice to hear real deep shit from Crooked I. He needs to do it more. Joe & Joell really came through on this too. Beat had an awesome feel & the hook just compliments it so well. Arguably the best song.
14. Park It Sideways - 4/5; Feel good song. Fuck with the opera-like background vocals & the beat overall. Royce's hook comes correct & everyone just does their thing on this.
15. Die - 4.5/5; Coulda done without that little intro; they probably should of used that as the intro to the album, but whatever. The song itself is sick from top to bottom.
16. Our Way - 5/5; Royce sets the tone right off the bat. Beat is nice & dark. The message was dope as fuck.
17. Asylum - 4.5/5; Sounded like Eminem had some Dre elements on the production. Also came through with a correct hook. All went in on the verses. Another song Joe shouldn't have been left off though. Overall, very nice cut though.
18. Walk of Shame - 4/5; Should have been a single, in my opinion. Better than all the ones they chose. Cool vibe to it. Lyrically clever which made it dope for me.
19. The Other Side - 5/5; I almost don't even want to talk about this song. How this didn't make the "16 song cut" is beyond me. One of the best songs the group's ever made. Hook was dope as hell. All come correct as hell. So strange why Shady didn't push this beyond a "bonus track".
20. Place To Be - 4.5/5; BoB came through decently. Slaughterhouse went in. Beat is a little off for me, hook is on point though.
The album started off shakey, but after My Life was really good. Shady could of done without the singles they chose & used "Our House", "Walk of Shame" & "Frat House" & probably do better numbers than they will. Also cut the weakest songs off the album, making it appear stronger. But if you cut the singles they chose completely, overall it's better than the debut for me.
Also matty, hop off my dick, fam.

projected to sell 50-60k first week...doubling their first album sales, may get number 1 album in country which would be a W
I expected 70 to 90k tho..if anyone took an L its hip hop not slaughterhouse
anyways I would love to see them get number 1 in country..2 yrs ago ppl would laugh at slaughterhouse having a number 1 record in country...jokes on you now

coffin is teh best song but Crooked should have been given the ability to drop 2 verses 8)
-
The second half of the album is definitely the strongest, and like Cham I don't realise why the "Bonus Tracks" were left as "Bonus Tracks", could of easily replaced some of the album tracks imo.

I think this is a pretty accurate review. The only things I'd change I'd the the singles a little higher rating especially "Hammer Dance" (which is one of my favorite tracks on the album) & I'd give "Throw That" & "Walk of Shame" a lower rating.
I hope Slaughterhouse hit number 1. Regardless if you like the album or not they deserve the number 1 spot.

Here's a review that's pretty accurate
http://culturevi.wordpress.com/2012/08/28/welcome-to-d12s-house-slaughterhouse-review/
"Fans of Slaughterhouse want to like their music. We’re fans. We want to see them win. They’re all relatable. I found myself trying to like certain songs that I normally wouldn’t. I think a lot of fans will be doing the same (what would a SH fan say if any other artist released Throw it Away). Most of us will be replacing songs from the album with songs from the mixtape. That’s a telltale sign."

If they happy im happy as a fan. They made it. 8)

like Cham I don't realise why the "Bonus Tracks" were left as "Bonus Tracks", could of easily replaced some of the album tracks imo.
Yeah, made no sense.
60k isn't really that impressive with the Shady co-sign. Then again, they picked awful singles. Singles sell albums these days.
If they went with "Our House" featuring Eminem, it honestly & sadly enough could of gotten into that 85+ range.

Too lazy to click link but that bottom part is exactly how i feel. I like them, i wanted them to do well. I hated the album after one listen but gave it another chance and i am trying really hard to like this. I want to like it, iam making myself like it lol.
Its so true, if anyone else came out with album i'd discard it. A bit like how i still love Snoop.....well Snoop dogg not Snoop Lion..
Oh and Angrys post was kinda funny
Yep they had no hope of selling without Eminem singles. Should've been obvious.

The review was kind of on point apart from saying "Throw It Away" was dope. How did it get 4.5 stars though?
-
There was am interview on allhiphop.com conducted before the album dropped an the interviewer asked why was Kalil missing & Crooked I said something along the lines that Kalil has been going through something personal and didn't submit any beats while they were working on the album, that's why he is missing.
Even if Slaughterhouse got dropped I think they'd still drop another album independently. They'd probably come back bigger and stronger to show all the critics.

how can u bump a track & then come to the conclusion - "well this song deserves 3.5 or 3.7"?,,,
what's the difference between "3.5, 3.7 and 4"?
do u use a scale?
-
Alright, I've bumped it enough, it's time.

Yeah, there was no 3.7. Only .5's, which is pretty standard for a review.

how can a person evaluate ratings wit .5's and .7's when they rate them?
do u use a ruler or scale?
like for example, when i listen to songs from an album - its not like i listen to it, and then "bam, this specific track right here deserves 5.5 or 5.9, cuz the lyrics were a tad better on this 3rd verse" or whatever
im glad that sites like IMDB.com stopped using it.
it's just retarded, and doesnt say anything about the quality to a reader

Basically, if you are going to rate in halves, why wouldn't you just rate out of 10 instead? If you are going to rate out of 5, then there should only be 5 marks available.
-
you can also rate in %
i like the song with Cee Lo Green 87.4%

I've always thought a 3/5 is a better rating than a 6/10 though.

There are no .9 or .7 ratings though, even The Source gives 3.5 mics sometimes, . I dunno if decimals are hard to learn in your country but you're trying to make a retarded point here.

my review
2 Our House: 4/5 hook is nothing special and this being the first song NEEDED all 4 members on it
3-Coffin: 5/5 verses should have been longer but who cares? beat is BANGING and the raps are all tight
4-Throw That: 3/5 i like the song but so much more could have been done
5-Hammer Dance 4/5 the el-p remix is better but i love both
6-Get Up 3/5 another wack hook
7-My Life 5/5 pop as fuck but they got Cee Lo on this one (a legit force in the game for years) and the rhymes are dope. Crooked kills it.
8- worthless skit
9-Flip a Bird 4.5/5 hook is simple, kinda grows on me. the verses are great and beat is dope.
10-Throw It Away: 4/5 hated it at first, LOVE it now. Swizz is perfect for this hook. this should have been the first song on the album
11-Rescue Me 4/5 only downside again is the hook
12-Frat House 5/5 best song on the album
13-Goodbye 4.5/5 deepest song on the album i'd say and Joell drops the deepest one i think
14-Park It Sideways 3/5 Werid ass hook, raps are simple and beat is simply not fit for Slaughterhouse. Song could be worse, it could have Skyler Gray on it
15-Die 5/5 amazing song, the hook sounds like a Bone Thugs song in a good way
16-Our Way 4/5 this is pretty damn dope, each verse was better than the previous one
17-Asylum 4.5/5 could have been the best song on the album if Joe was on it OR Eminem could have done a 4th verse
18-Walk of Shame 4/5 nice song
19-The Other Side 4.5/5 would be 5/5 if Crooked were on it, perhaps instead of Joey
20-Place To Be with B.O.B. 5/5 second best song on the cd, even if B.O.B. is on it he didn't fuck it up
76 out of 90 so 84%
compliments and complaints:
1-eminem should have had a song with just the 5 of them all spazzing out over a beat
2-instead of that weak skit they should have kept Joe's verse on Our House
3-who the fuck is Skyler Gray?
4-Crook killed it
5-I See Dead People should have been the last song with Eminem replacing DJ Drama's talking part before Joe raps....oh well one can wish.
6- did anyone notice the CD is 80 minutes and 39 seconds?? is single disc technology really able to go OVER 80 now? I've never seen that before....good work on filling it up with music
despite all the criticism I find myself satisfied with my purchase
-
After a third listen(drunken i might add) it dose seem to sound better with every listen. I think now i dont feel like it sux but it definitely isnt a great album. Its good but some of those beats and hooks really ruin it and make it hard to listen to.
I'd probably be embarrassed to play alot of the songs in my car or at a party or something.
Some of the songs are really catchy though and get stuck in your head.
I think if your in the right mood its a pretty decent album, once you get over the fact that its not a dope hip hop album and except it for what it is and listen with an open mind.
But because of what could have been i'd have to say 6/10.
-
seems like u got lots to say
-
And too much time on my hands but the fact that you make 1000 threads a week makes you seem a but hypocritical.
-

Ross is gonna go gold eventually which is great in this climate. Slaughterhouse just dropped a flop of an album quality wise and commercial wise, getting outsold by a Christian rapper named Toby Mac. So, I wouldn't talk.

slaughter sold 80% of what Em and Royce sold
this is a success
-
Selling 50k is hardly a success, especially if you're on Shady and your album is an obvious attempt at crossing over, something that Royce & EM LP was not. Anyways, I don't really care about what Slaughterhouse is selling but just had to point that out when he made that ridiculous comment about Rick Ross album sales.

Niggaaaaa please. If you're going to act like MMG isn't one of the biggest names in Hip Hop, I'd have to question if you listened to it. Em, Jay & Wayne sell a million in a week.
Whose going to buy a Slaughterhouse album? The only appeal was an Eminem feature & kids are just going to download that one song off iTunes. I'm considered a "stan" of the group & I didn't buy the album lol.

Only person that believes that Ross is in the same league as those guys is Rick Ross himself. MMG is a fad like G-Unit and Dipset were. If this was 05 they'd be going platinum. But everybody knows that they won't last 5 years.

I mean, I agree. He's still popular. I was just making fun of the fact he hasn't hit 500,000 but talks more shit than any of them.
-
congrats to slaughter for the #1 hip hop album
shoulda and coulda done alot better sales wise tho...not their fault
-
Yeah congrats to them for charting so high. Dosent seem it will sell big overall but still grats to them.
Yep better single selection it could have done so much better. A single with Eminem should've happened.
Anyways after a 4th listen i now like the album^^; Its a good album. Not a classic but the fact all four of them are great rappers and lyrical makes it good. i mean you wont find many other albums with these sort of lyrics other than very underground. The songs definitely grow on you.
Well iam gonna stop posting after every listen now.

Ask anybody who doesn't listen to hip hop who Rick Ross is... None would have a clue. They'd know who Eminem and Jay-Z are, possibly Lil Wayne too... but they don't know who Rick Ross is, let alone what MMG is. Trust me.
-
Possible....however people who "don't listen to Hip Hop" probably aren't going to buy a Hip Hop album anyway lol.
It's not that Jay-Z is getting people to buy his album that Rick Ross can't. Every fan of the genre knows them, Rick just ISN'T a boss.
-
Crooked I's clique is named Circle Of Bosses. Is he a boss ? Gucci Maine calls himself trap God. Is he ? It's just rappers being confident about themselves. Nothing new. I don't know why Rick Ross is such an exception. He has been calling himself boss since he got into the game. It's obviously his trademark phrase or whatever.
-

In a sense it's kinda like that.
Jay-Z at least gets every hip hop fan to check his shit out.
Rick Ross on the other hand gets "wack" stamped across his shit by almost everyone who listens to hip hop before they hear anything.
What I mean is that Rick Ross is looked at as one of hip hop's biggest cancers. He and Lil Wayne are constantly lumped together and said to be ones who ruined hip hop in the late 00's. Rick Ross' image amongst people who listen to hip hop is that he's wack, he's fat and if you listen to him you are automatically considered uncool or "know nothing about real hip hop." As a result the shallow listeners who think they have to have the same tastes that the "hip hop experts" have consider him wack before listening to any of his songs to be accepted and alot of these people are usually people who are new to hip hop and don't know who makes good music and who makes bad music (a lot of times they consider a rapper wack even before they've established what their standards for quality music are).
Whereas with Jay-Z he's got this image as the face of the franchise (so to speak) and it's not cool or bad or really anything to call him wack so people don't and give his stuff a try, whether they'll buy it or not is up to them.
So basically Jay-Z gets some people to buy his album that Rick Ross can't get to buy his because he's commonly considered wack.
And yes I consider at least 50% of people who listen to hip hop to be shallow fucks who think they have to like the same artists and hate the same artists as everyone else to be accepted. There are a lot of these people in society, I have no doubt that there are a lot of them amongst those who listen to hip hop.
-

You must be a big fan, bro lol.
I just found it funny he hasn't sold 500,000 yet. I don't check soundscans, so it came to a surprise to me.
-
yeah even Royce has sold 500 K now ;D
-
Ross was expecting to go Platinum with this album but its barely gonna push gold. For all the hype he tried to create, and the fact people thought this was the biggest album of his career, he didn't meet the standards, critically or commercially., Wale's gonna end with bigger numbers than Ross
-
Expecting to go platinum ? By who ? Who in their right mind would expect an artist that never did platinum before all of a sudden, in this terrible climate, push platinum ? Other than of course, the MMG camp. Ross had the biggest first week sales of his career and he is 5 albums deep. That's a success. Critically it did good. Below expectations but far from bad. And one could argue again, that those expectations were build by the MMG camp. Rick Ross is not capable of a classic album, that he always claims so.
-

Like you just said, MMG hyped their own shit up like crazy, and failed to meet the expectations they set for themselves. Ross likes to think he's on the same level as Jay, Ye, Drake and Wayne but he's a step down.
-
^That's basically all I was trying to say.
-
The Other Side is such a quality song, BIG single potential for sure.
-
Look at these white folk actin like they know hip hop smh.
Nobody in the streets claim Ross and Wayne are "cancers that killed hip hop", just white suburban kids with computer access. hip hop was born in the streets and will always be in the streets even if Execs from all over the globe make their own kareoke rap songs. Niggas from the street born and kill rappers, not bloggers, even if Wayne dresses like a transvestite sometimes and we fry him for it. It'll never change, it'll always be that way. Especially when they're brought up constantly by every rap fan with a keyboard and Internet access (like y'all). The Ross and Wayne punchlines are old news, white kids from the suburbs be the only ones talkin about it. We don't care about y'all unless y'all spendin money, other than that fuck y'all. Fuck wit it or fuck off

As far as SlaughterHouse goes. I think they've almost achieved what they set out to accomplish (but I'm not telling what that is). I'm proud of them dudes, all of them.
Y'all forget that the Internet is a fantasy land reeking with innuendos everywhere. I heard that this year at a popular nightclub in DC (luxe or ibiza, it escapes me at the moment) made money off of booking French Montana and they lost money booking Nicki Minaj [i assumed it was becuz of her rate but then again the DMV ain't exactly a broke and run down area and she has fans from all walks of life].
Most Rap Niggaz don't be givin a fuck about a Grammy in real life, shit don't even be crossin our mind foreal foreal (fuck em). That's that shit that Y'ALL care about. We only say shit becuz Your People act like they don't see us (and their own children)

What!? A rapper hyping himself up? Being overconfident? Cocky? That's unheard of! Every rapper is usually so humble and modest.
Kendrick Lamar said that his debut album will be the best in the past 20 years. I guess I must trust his judgment then, right ?

The mixing on the majority of the album is horrible! I finally received the CD in the mail today and couldn't even listen to "Our House" up loud, shit hurt my ears.

Cranked the album in my car goin for a long drive. Actually was a good album to cruise to. I enjoyed it as much as teh new Nas album 8)

Yeah son is weak as fuck, "I Need A Doctor" had those same weak ass drums. How does someone with access to Dre drums come so weak smh.
-
Yeah, I don't know how Dre doesn't at least take a look at that.
But as for the vibe of both beats, they're dope as hell & Skylar always sounds amazing on those hooks. Dude just needs better drums lol.
-
I'm liking the album more and more, it grows on me after more listens. 8)
-
As much as I wanted to like this album, it´s a very mixed bag. The rhymes and techniques these guys possess is of amongst (if not) the very best we can get out of rappers in 2012. But the beats, hooks, and overall direction of the album is all over the place. It sounds more like a half-assed compilation of tracks instead of a true listening experience. Oh how I miss the days when one producer would handle the entire production of a album :'(
-
It's not even that, just a good exec producer can achieve that too
-
Highly unlikely since every good producer has a signature sound to their productions. Therefore it would sound like every popular rap album since the mid 90´s with an uncosisting sound that´s constructed more like a compilation.
-
It's not even that, just a good exec producer can achieve that too
true. or just having good ears.

i'll respectfully disagree with ya then
i say it goes Crook > Budden > Ortiz > Yela > Royce > Tip
Ortiz kills it too...so much energy! dammit that remix should have made the Yela CD.

It's obviously his trademark phrase or whatever.
i was impressed with crooked i 10 plus years ago, when fanboys like standout were rocking blink 182 shirts... his wake up show appearances were crazy... unfortunately he has 0 projects worth checking... those radio sessions are the only time he ever impressed me, that was a long fucking time ago... drop an album... not a wack EP, not a halfass mixtape, not 2300 weekly freestyles i wouldnt click on accident... drop an LP.... HE CANT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
joell ortiz debut had some joints, hes a writer, he can flow, im just not a superfan... his shit doesnt really pull me in like that... sorry, but im not alone... duke had a major label shot and he fucked it up.... and since were being honest, latino rappers fuck themselves with the "im pun in his prime" lines... just makes me wanna hear pun in his prime...
as for joe buddden... hoe buddens... hes the first major label rapper to ever be forced into netcee bum status... i have despised that faggot yellow nigga since def jam gave him the biggest push they ever gave a rapper.. got put in a top selling video game with no record out, got a just blaze banger, got the hit featured in a summer blockbuster... he was a massive failure, had the label running mad...his staunchest supporters will point to his gold plaque...
ill point to the fact he was shelved, put on ice, and dropped from the label!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the mood muzik series appeals to emotional, frail, loner types... with awful taste... i heard em all...
dude crying about his bitch moaning about his pill problems over STAIND samples...
making 10 minute songs about rappers better than him...
tin can beats, wack samples, emo raps with lifted jay z patterns, the worst mixes in the history of rap...
dude fucking sucks... he had his shot, he blew it...
if royce didnt relink with em, joe buddens would be recording a web cam diss to the remaining members of slaughterhouse who have since replaced him!!!!!!!!!!!
you can call me a hater...
but i actually listen to the shit i "hate" on...
example of slaughterhouse making 4 verse songs about nothing that bore the shit out of me... "CUCKOO"... i think that was supposed to be a high energy, zany, record... thats a record that gives you a headache, and puts you to bed early...
all 4 members of slaughterhouse were on thin ice before they got together...
crooked i was stuck in bum rapper purgatory...
hoe buddens was holding net chats with his dwindling stan base...
joell was quiet after getting dropped....
and royce was tryin get it together after the bottle had him in the can drying out...
somehow, instantly, they became a super group... LOL
slaughterhouse disc = car frisbee/sleeping pill

I think that everyone is disappointed with the album. BUT its a real grower and it has LOTS of awesome tracks. Its not what we hoped for but if you give it a chance and listen with an open mind, um adjust to the type of sound its a pretty fucking cool album.
But yes it should've been better.
I think they all rapped really well on almost every verse and some of teh songs are actually pretty deep and meaningful. Funnerly enough i quite liek "Asylum" even though it sounds more like a d-12 track.
Whilst it is true i kind of forced myself to like the album because i absolutely hated it at first, it is a cool album. Some of it is just more suited for an older audience, much like the new nas album.

someone recommended Jay Z's "reasonable doubt" and he was like hell no

T.I. better than any member from Slaughterhouse? C'mon son.... :loco:
He don't have to be 'outright' better. T.I.'s strength IMO is charisma and putting a song together.
None of the Slaughterhouse boys can instinctively build a song (hooks and all) and spit over it in a way that feels natural IMO.
Even if they could it's like 'too many cooks' the way things are now. Eminem used to be incredible at this but he was spoilt before, meaning he had an incredible team of musicians and engineers around him and all the studio time and $$$ he needed to make a great album as help.

And what percentage of that are they seeing? Depending on how much money was spent making the album and promoting it, they could be getting nothing. That money usually comes out of their advance.

lol @ niggas hating on the numbers by saying "They ain't seeing any of it". Same goes for just about every artists besides those one million a week dudes.
It's 2012, you make all your money these days off touring. & when they go on the Shady 2.0 tour with Eminem, they'll be cakin'.
As for the numbers themselves, job well done considering most of their promotion was just word of mouth that they were associated with Eminem.
-
I guess both singles flopped?
Not sure what would be the best choice for a third single? Still dont get why they didnt put one out with Em? but too late now i guess.

publishing and touring is how they get paid which is important to an artist. record sales is what's important to the label in case you didn't know they are signed to interscope. i'm not sayin' people expect them to go platinum but if they got a $600,000,000 contract that only you believe then they better sell some records or they will be charles hamilton status.
-

It doesn't make sense though. When Lil' Wayne sells a million in a week, everyone says "Oh little kids are buying that garbage". I mean, it doesn't take a genius to see that Joe Budden doesn't have a "bunch of little kids" as fans. People don't buy music. In two weeks they more than doubled the total amount they sold last album...while according to most of you "selling out".
Eminem was involved by giving them two verses. Produced one song that was a bonus & then all Eminem did was mainstream their production.

Right, but they'll be dropped and owe money if the label doesn't recoup the money it spent on the album. An artist who sells a million has the platform to go out and make money touring. And is their core fanbase even gonna buy tickets to go see them perform these songs that we don't like?

Royce and Budden got the fanbase to do that but Joell and Crooked? naw

I dunno i think i like this album better than the first but i haven't listened to the first one in quite a while.
I never got around to watching the videos for the singles either(aside from hammer dance).

This album was a disappointment. Couple of track are solid but most of the album is soft. You'd expect some hardcore shit from these dudes but this was wack. Sounds like Eminem's Recovery album. Modern beats that took away the hardcore nature of these cats. I wanted some old school pioneer beat makers on this shit. The production was weak. First album is better for sure.

Just checked the videos. Quiet alot of views. i see "my life" has close three million and "throw it away" has over one million.
I actually like the video for "my life" lol but wtf was that shit at the beginning??
The "throw it away" video was kinda cool but the video was also sort of distracting to the actual music.
I've seen "move on" but they did that before the shady deal, right?
Wonder if there will be another one or not?

Eminem, Wayne, Kanye, Drake, Gaga, Bieber, any big name, has close to 500,000,000 views. So is three million really a lot? lol.

You really think its as simple as promotion to get Eminem type of sales? The promo is there, the audience interest isn't.

LOL. What audience? Eminem sells a million in a week & people like you say "Oh that's a bunch of little kids"...then go on to think those little kids will like Slaughterhouse. Slaughterhouse probably gained like 25,000 fans at most, switching over to Shady. You guys act like every single Eminem fan & then some are supposed to just be the biggest fan & go out & buy the album.
I don't understand how doubling album sales from their previous album isn't a success.
-
really 500 million views? i dont reacal ever seeing that. i guess 3 mil aint so much then.. Most views i ever seen is that "gang nam style' has over 200 million..
And yeah Slaughter House had ZERO promotion here. Not sure if they've ever been on the radio once. But i only listen to radio at work so not sure.
But everyone i mention Slaughter House to has never heard of them. Even rap fans and even massive Eminem fans. The fact they werent on Eminems album(i tunes bonus track i know) and teh fact that they didnt put out a single with Eminem=Eminem fans not knowing about them or caring about them. I guess.

I actually like the video for "my life" lol but wtf was that shit at the beginning??
The "throw it away" video was kinda cool but the video was also sort of distracting to the actual music.
I've seen "move on" but they did that before the shady deal, right?
Wonder if there will be another one or not?
they have videos for Hammer Dance and Microphone as well
-
wow is that the all time record for most views??
Lady Gaga and Justin Beiber probably have the record

I didnt listen to Ems last album much it got packed away. So i didnt actually hear that song properly many times hey. But yep hearing it on the radio at work five times a day killed it.
-
Gangnam style should have the record for most hits within a matter of time 8)
-
^yeah its close 500mil views.
So did Slaughter hit 100 000 sales? another video coming out?
-
any info bout the sales numbers?!
-
They are shooting a video for Goodbye, rap radar had some photos up the other day. Not sure what the sales are up to.
-
Cool. Iam kind of surprised they didn't choose "rescue me" or "flip a bird" but "goodbye" is a great song. "coffin" would've been a cool choice also.

agreed
goodbye is a song for the chicks not for rap fans
-
Yeah. They should have went with Frat House or Rescue Me. Or "Our House" & get the Eminem feature exposure.
-
^yeah the eminem feature in a single alone could boost sales probably.
-
i don't understand why 'get up' hasn't been used as a single. easily the best track with lots of crossover appeal. a remix with eminem could be big, if pushed.

I feel that.

I never heard a bieber song so i guess i cant judge. i heard the chorus of one or two but never an actual song. Little girls are crazy, they control the music sales i guess.
-
i see the video for "good bye" is out.
Not sure if that is Skyler grey in the video but who ever it is she is fucking hot!! curie ^_^
Its got over 700 k views. I see "my life up to almost 3.5 mil and "throw it away almost 1.5 mil.
Wonder if the album sold over 100k?
Wasnt EM sposed to have some big tour with SH and Yelawolf or a compilation album with them or something??

I heard the labels are paying the commercial stations to push the artists too
Lets blow the lid off this bitch!! :D

I actually still listen to it. I was a bit harsh on my first assesment of the album but after letting it sink in I ended up liking it for what it was. There's a good selection of tracks on there and it may not be perfect but it's still alright. Good to work out to as well.

That shit still sucks because I'm not some faggot who likes a album better after leeting it "sink in" that's not sinking in that's getting used to it. You ever hear a annoying sound, when you first hear it you hate it but the longer your exposed you get used it and eventually ignore it, don't get indifference confused with enjoyment. Stupid faggot.

Once the shock of disappointment subsided, I was able to enjoy this cohesively average album :monkey:

I still listen to it. i listened to it yesterday in fact.
Its a good album and it has some great tracks. Not many albums as lyrical and some of the beats are good.
I agree and admit i hated it at first but that was only because it was not what i expected or hoped for at all. They still did their thing lyrically it was just not the sort of production that i had hoped for and it was only really that first single "my life" thats a real "pop" song.
Its not like they went out and got lil wayne or lil john or puffy or r&b singers on there. Its not like its got love songs or bling swag songs or down south songs or pop artists on it.
theres nothing wrong with adjusting to an album and allowing it to grow on you and listening to it with an open mind.
If i disregarded every album that i didn't like right away i wouldn't listen to music very often.
i mean most rappers follow up album after a classic (not saying SH had a classic album) is disappointing at first but if i went by the logic described above i would've thrown alot of albums in the trash that i later grew to really like.
But i guess if i was still a teenager i wouldn't have given SH much of a go because back then i didnt want to hear any singing at all on a rap album.
On a side note i was very excited to discover that SH is touring down here but then very saddened to discover they not coming to my city QQ

The mixtape was better
yup, i bumped the album not too long ago in my car it's very hard to listen to, the musical direction they were going for is truly horrifying. such a waste of dope mc's, their first LP is way better, and that says a lot considering it's only a low-budget, decent album
