http://www.slamonline.com/online/the-magazine/features/2009/06/the-new-top-50/
I really found this a good and correct article about the best players to ever be playing for the most appreciated league in the world.
No bullshit, no kobe and / or lebron dick riding, just the truth 8) enjoy
-
where's Marbury and Francis?
those 2 took up the most SLAM covers ::) LOL
-
I think Karl Malone deserves to be ranked better even without the ring.
-
I think Karl Malone deserves to be ranked better even without the ring.
na he's where he belongs
stockton desesrves to be higher than malone
-
No Reggie Miller? Boo to that.
-
Jason Kidd is WAY too high, in my opinon. :eh:
-
no Pistol Pete
interesting
-
Cant say I argue too much with it. I dont think Id have Shaq so high on the list, but definetely still a top 10.
-
damn nash is top 50?
-
damn nash is top 50?
good question lol.
-

i say swap Bird and Shaq
and maybe move Hakeem up a bit
-
i mean arent there players who arent on the list who should be instead of nash
i mean he was 50th right (i was jus readin this at the store the other day) so its like hes on the edge bout ready to fall off once they make their correction lol
(and im not sayin this list means anything, but what do they base this on)
damn nash is top 50?
good question lol.
-
damn nash is top 50?
good question lol.
He deserves it. I mean, Gary Payton is my dude...I always loved that guys game. But as far as an overall career, Id put Nash> Payton
-

of course u would. lol Shaq can be at 9, but I dont see Bird being ahead of Magic IMO. Really, i would have Bird and Magic be like 4a and 4b. I dont really have one above the other.
-
damn i mean thats crazy that nash is up there like that tho IMO
I think many would put payton over nash
but i mean IMO iverson should be up there a lil more on the list
and damn shaq is way overrated, he needs to slide down
well jordan is one of my favorite players so he got #1 and looks like hell stay there forever lol

as many could see Magic above Bird. The two are forever linked, like no other players in basketball history really. When you think of one, you immediately think of the other.

well Magic says Bird was the better player so I'll take his word

LOL hands down the worst list I have ever seen!!
Shaq #4 is a joke and how the fuck is Reggie Miller not on this list!! And also LOL at Nash and Rodman being in the top 50 haha
I don't know if I have ever seen a worse list honestly
-
well rodman was a one a kind type of player but nash?
theres gotta be a few players better than him
some of them espn cats say that miller was a great...makin it seem like he was top 10

lol i dont know about worst. The top 10 is pretty legit except for Shaq being so ridiculously high. Once you get past 15, there will always be a lot of debate. I would have Miller on the list rather then Rodman. Nash tho, in all honesty...back to back MVPs is not so easy to do. He's a good PG and I think ESPN had him rated as one of the top 10 PG's of all time a few yrs ago.
-
Reggie isnt top 10 but he is easily top 50

Rodman is a legit pick
Nash over Pistol Pete....not so much
-
i love shaq, but i wouldn't go so far as to put him number 4, wow. definitely not above magic , no no no.
-
I stopped after Shaq #4.
-
LOL@ Nash being on the list
-
LOL@ Nash being on the list
i think of any euro player Dirk belongs on the list...i dont think i saw him on there

where would some people on this board put Shaq if he was still a Laker. ;D

where would some people on this board put Shaq if he was still a Laker. ;D
If it were Laker fans making the list it would go something like...
1. Kobe
2. Magic
3. Kareem
4. Shaq
5. Laker
6. Laker
7. Laker
8. Laker
9. Laker
10. Jordan....maybe...
-
laker, magic, heat, sun, cav, shaq is my all time favorite player but i'm not secure with him being number 4 on all time greatest players list...yeah i think he could have dominated bill and wilt, and for that matter kareem as well, he cut his teeth in the biggest big man era so i have no problem with people saying he's the #4 #1 option ever. but greatness is something different.....
jordan was jordan........that's your number one dude of all time
but magic should be number #2......9 finals appearances, dude played all 5 positions and excelled at them all. he was the greatest player ever until jordan can into his own. and that's all that really ever has to be said, in shaq's blurb it said that he always made everyone around him better....which has always been true, but the person that always did that the best was magic...magic was the ultimate player....like i said you have to look to jordan for a greater player
wilt should be number 3.....plain and simple he's the stuff of legend.....like i said i'm pretty sure shaq would make him look like greg ostertag , but he was the original and when you think about greatness and NBA it start and ends with wilt
Bill Russel should be Number 4 on that list, like wilt when you think of greatness and NBA it starts back in the day with wilt and you turn the page and you have Bill and his ring collection.
then i think once you get to number 5 that's when you start having problems and debate trying to rank players. the first four.....that's pretty much set in stone until either shaq breaks some rebounding or scoring records or kobe lebron, or timmy wins a significant amount of championship hardware before they retire.

I agree with some of this. I agree that none of the current players should be in the top 5. But I have a hard time ranking Magic #2....and Larry not even in the top #5. To me, those two are on the same level. Magic had a little bit better teams during the 80's, but their individual accolades are definetely on par with eachother. Larrys maybe even slightly better as he made the All Defensive team 3 times also. The other problem though is, if you put Bird and Magic on the same level, and assume Magic is number 2...that means Bird is either number 3, or they switch places. Which would mean Wilt and Russell get pushed to 5 and 6...that cant happen either lol. The way I see the list...
1. Jordan
2.-6. Magic, Bird, Wilt, Russell, Kareem (no particular order)
7.-10. Oscar, Shaq, Duncan, West (no particular order)
-
Shaq could have dominated Bill, Wilt & Kareem if he played in their ERA.
but it was a different game back then; Shaq would have gotten called for offensive fouls & travels back in the day lol.
i wonder if Bill, Wilt & Kareem would even be the players they are remembered as if they played in today's game basketball.

^yeah, but PG's couldn't dribble the way they do now.
every possesion in AI's career would have been called a carry 30 years ago.
CP3, Nash & Deron Williams would absoutely OWN against teams from back in the day lol.

last time I checked the celtics still hold the most titles ever won. If lakers surpass that they'll become the greatest franchise, but they aren't if you also count the past.

go look at how high Wilt Chamberlain's vertical jump was.... he would still dominate at 7'1 in today's NBA

Look at the difference in skills that a 7'1" player typically has now compared to then. You have 7 footers able to run a fast break, shoot the three, cross you over lol. Good luck with that one Wilt. Wilt was the most dominant player ever, for his time. But its utterly retarded to think that a 7 footer from Wilts time would dominate the league NOW the way they did THEN when they were the exception. Now, a 7 footer is the norm.

actually in this NBA you're scarce to find a 7 footer who can actually play
you got Yao...always gettin hurt
Bynum...always gettin hurt
Oden...never been healthy
D-Howard is 6'11 lol
Wilt's athleticism would be great in any decade...but he still was no Bill Russell 8)

odom isn't 7 feet
and i think wilt would be a good plaeyr but like i said shaq in his prime would have made wilt look like john konkac

yes, but youre comparing to the previous group of Hakeem, Robinson, Shaq, and Ewing. That group was recent enough that newer players now havent had a chance to surpass their skill level. But when youre talking about players 30, 40, 50 yrs ago...the amount of skill an average NBA player NOW has, would be the top players in the league THEN. When youre comparing players from that long ago, you can only compare them to THEIR generation. Not to the current one, as the current generation (again, when there is that much time in between them) will ALWAYS have more skill. That goes for ANY sport. Athletes always evolve.
