Title: Lil Wayne To Cover 2Pac's "Hail Mary" On MTV Unplugged Special
Post by: 187Proof on June 07, 2011, 10:57:17 AM
When Lil Wayne hits the stage for MTV Unplugged on June 12, it will be his first time appearing on the show.

In addition to his long list of hits, MTV is reporting that Weezy will perform a special tribute to fallen hip hop legend Tupac Shakur. Wayne talks about why he picked "Hail Mary" to perform.

"I knew because this is my 'Unplugged,' I said, 'I want to do some kind of tribute to one of those great artists,' " Wayne said." "It's just something about 'Pac and I. I picked that second verse, 'Penitentiaries is packed with promise makers,' and I was like, 'That whole verse is just perfect — they never realized the precious time that they wasting.'"

Wayne ain't 1996.

Wayne and Cash Money in 96 would of just been some underground South music, that would occasionally hit Gold.  Something like what No Limit Records was in 96 and like what they were in their early days.  Because the quality of Cash Money music never improved, the game just became watered down and the fans have no taste in music anymore.

seriously tho, none of y'all know that Wayne been puttin shit down on wax (released in stores) since 1995 wow smh.  Hip Hop fans and their savyness never ceases to amaze me.

ca$h money records (the label we know today) has been doing shit since 94/95 lol.

but anyway.... only bloggers who were born pre-1984 say shit about Weezy.  in the real world in real life Lil' Wayne is 1 of the GOAT and that's undisputable.  fine, Wayne might get hate on a blog or some website everytime his named is mentioned but the people fuck wit Weezy and generally always have.  end of story.  i'm glad Pac/Makaveli is still getting his props to this day and it'll be a sad day if it ever stops no matter who is doing the dedication #realtalk (except for Soulja Boy doing a remake of "Juice", that shit is just crazy no matter what context it is in).

I was born Pre-84, and I remember around 97' I saw a Cash Money album at the music store and they were biting No Limits gimmick of using Pen and Pixel artwork on their covers and I remember some people even bought it just cause they thought it was No Limit.. and the shit was wack then and it is wack now.

Who cares? People needa stop acting like its not for a TV show; obviously need to get the face of Hip Hop to do it.

The way that you write off an entire label's music based on hasty observations and assumptions, sometimes not even about the music completely nullifies your opinion.

For your information Cash Money didn't bite No Limit's gimmick of using Pen & Pixel artwork, they were dealing with Pen & Pixel before No Limit. No Limit's artworks were done until 1996 & Mr. Ice Cream Man by Phunky Phat Graph-X, a company from the Bay Area who did shitloads of cover for Bay artists and who went out of business in the late 90's.

Cash Money, on the other hand had been dealing with Pen & Pixel as early as 94-95. At the time Master P wasn't even considered Dirty South since he was operating from Richmond and putting out compilations like Westcoast Badd Boyz (IMO he started switching down south in 1995 with Down South hustlers and the True albums who contained some dirty south cuts like Bout It Bout It but really became strictly south in 97-98) . The two main labels out of New Orleans were Big Boy Records (Partner-N-Crimes, Mystikal, Black Menace, G-Slimm etc.) & Cash Money.

You can check Shawn Brauch (Pen & pixel's founder)'s interview, it's interesting, even though he dismisses Phunky Phat Graph-X's work, which I think was better than Pen & Pixel.

http://www.abcdrduson.com/interviews/feature-vo.php?id=197

Oh, and Cash Money was dropping dope albums occasionally, Mannie Fresh was a versatile producer back then and he could drop bounce records and gangsta, sometimes even G-Funk records. Kilo-G's Bloody City and Mr Ivan's 187 In A Hockey Mask are classics in my book. And they both came out before 96. Get your facts straight.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChoztAKu2tU

RIP Kilo-G & Mr. Ivan.

It's funny how you Infinite try to dictate an indisputable truth about various things (i.e. 4 of Nas's albums are among the 5 best eastcoast albums or Cash Money was wack in 97) when you obviously don't know what you are talking about.

That being said, I'm not annoyed @ Lil Wayne's paying homage to Pac by singing Hail Mary. A lot of artists, even respectable ones have done fake features or paied corny homages to Pac, it's seems like a routine for a successful artist lol.
