from a quick skip through this sounds like one of his best records and a lot better than Guilty By Affiliation. A lotta funky bass lines and beats that don't sound that generic compared to his last one, some scratches and even from this slight impression I can that tell the hooks are way better. It's a lot more 90's oriented.
Still guys, I just skipped it and have to bump the real deal tomorrow or when I have more time to enjoy it - but as far as I think right now I'm pretty sure I'm buying it!! Support Dub C!

and you're so damn right with this one! I never understood what they did on GBA... I mean the beats were really cool for the most part but it sounded like they only had some verses and didn't want to put too much effort in hooks and as if Cube just said "fuck it, let me just put some shit on there" lol. This heavily weakened some songs for me.

yeah, this is way better than GBA. it's more consistent. i guess it does help that Ice Cube is not too involved with it. i like the fact that's it's only 12 tracks, no filler. great westcoast sound.

1. Revenge of the Barracuda - 4.25/5. Nice to hear Crazy Toones. Beat is hard and WC is rapping. "From an era before the tight clothes and mascara" lol, u know WC goes hard.
2. You Know Me - 5/5. Banging west coast shit. WC tears it up. "shake up the audience like Mike Vick walking in the dog show" LOL. Always love hearing Maylay; can't wait to hear more from him. His 2 street albums were flawless. Ice Cube comes in last as the legendary veteran and his verse is very fitting on here.
3. Reality Show - 4/5. Hard beat & hook. WC rapping hard on here for sure. "They can't bullshit dub; my pants ain't tight enough to be in they celebrity fight club" LOL.
4. What's Good - 4/5. Hard west coast music. Good Kokane hook. Heard on the EP of course. A banging record overall.
5. Walkin' in my Taylors - 4/5. Hard beat. Again, what you expect to hear from WC right here. Tight shit for sure.
6. That's What I'm Talking About - 4/5. We've all heard it. The first buzz single & video dropped way back. Typical dope ass WC for sure.
7. Stickin' to the Script - 4/5. Soopafly been added to the final version. Nice to see such a west coast posse record. The beat knocks so hard. WC's verse is tight. Who does the hook? I like the creative direction they took it in. Bad Lucc is a dope emcee; need to hear more from him. Daz' verse is ok; heard Kurupt spit better before as well. Felt like he was just saying shit to rhyme lol. Is that Soopafly on the hook? Because I don't hear a verse.
8. 100% Legit - 4.5/5. Woah, my favorite beat on here. The beat is so damn funky & the sample works so well. WC fit it so well too. Better than most tracks on here.
9. D Boy - 4/5. Beat hard. Story telling raps here; d boy shit lol. Real good hook from WC. Another great album cut right here.
10. Hustla' - 4.25/5 Never expected to see a WC/Juvenile collabo. Real bangin beat & hook. Wonder who that is on the chorus. WC spits nice. This track is kind of a blend between a west & south sound and it works. Juve spits nice too.
11. The Spot - 4.5/5. Another dope beat. Great west coast smooth shit. Hook is cool. WC spits nice. Maylay's verse is beyond dope. Great cut.
12. Dub C - 4/5. The orchestra voice actually goes well with this hard hitting west coast beat. Great closer!
Overall, very very very good album. Exactly what fans expect to hope from a WC album. No "flavor of the month" shit here. WC knows what his loyal fans want and he delivered as we all knew he would. Not a single disappointment here.

Holy shit 12 straight hot tracks, litterly left out the filler. Lot of filler on GH, not so much on GBA but this one sounds like he probally just picked 12 of the BEST tracks he made (probally lots, its been years since GBA came out lol). Cant wait for the production credits 8)

When you're independent and you know you're not gonna sell anything anyway, you might as well make music for your "loyal fans". Don't think for a minute though that WC would be making the same kind of album if he was still signed to a major and there was pressure on him to sell records.

i really don't know what's the point of your statement. What's the point of wondering what kind of music WC would do if he wasn't independent? The fact is he IS independent. He's not desperately trying to sign a major record deal. As far as i remember i've read an interview and he said he wants to stay independet because he wants to make his own music. No matter waht you're saying it IS indeed staying loyal to the fans and yourself. peace

Nobody is trashing GBA, just that Barracuda is better. I like all the songs on Barracuda. On GBA, a lot of hooks are horrible, and there are 3 or 4 tracks I didn't like. Still a good album though.

It's dope, the beats have more of a professional/unique sound to them unlike most of the beats that Cube has been using on his last few albums (to me have a generic dime-a-dozen sound to them). The only track that I feel that should have been replaced with something else is "Hustla" Ft. Juvenile, imo it has a very commercial sound to it, not that that's a bad thing if that's what your into but I think someone like Drake or one of those type of rappers would have sounded better over the track; Dub sounds better over some harder/grimmier production. Other than that I think it's very solid I give it a 4/5.

You Know Me is destroyed by gay male singing on the hook (this trend needs to stop now! -- put a female on there if you want singing)
A lot of the songs I'm not really feeling have good things to them but also have clear flaws -- mostly the hooks (e.g. Walking in my Taylors, You Know Me, etc.). Dub comes correct on all the songs and the beats are dope. The instrumentation and arrangements are kind of formulaic, but that's to be expected from an independent record. The second half gets a little experimental, as well, which is more risk/reward depending upon your taste as a listener.
Overally, probably on par with Guilty By Affiliation...which is not a bad thing! But I keep my expectations in check. I'm not expecting another Curb Serving. 8)

I can kinda see what your saying as the first half of GBA imo was raw as hell; the beats and hooks were hard but I think the second half of GBA could have been better. ROTB, production wise, isn't as hard as the first half of GBA but it does have a more classic west coast feel that I think is dope. Overall, I think ROTB is a better album, it's more balanced and is easier to listen to all the way through but the first half of GBA does have some serious bangers. As long as Dub keeps putting out heat I'm good either way.

Got the album today at the Swap Meet, and i gotta say WC is the most loyal West Coast rap artist. Album starts off with some straight heat and finishes with some straight heat. Favorite tracks on the album are Revenge of the Barracuda, You Know Me, Reality Show, The Spot, Dub C, and my personal favorite is Walking In My Taylors 8) 8) 8) Definitely worth my $14, who gives a fuck about sales when the quality of music is impressive. WC and Tray Deee are the heart of the West Coast!!!!

Guilty By Affiliation is a tight album, but Revenge Of The Barracuda just bangs way harder!!! Walkin In My Taylors so far is my favorite track this year. Produced by EQ and Co-Produced by Flip. I know I'm late here, but I gotta sound off. Bought the album on release, but just got around to give it proper listens. Honestly, this is his worst. It's almost embarrassing that there's so many wack songs here. Don't get it twisted, WC is a legend in my book, but this is a piss poor effort at an album. No creativity. Beats sound like wannabe Dre 2001 style. Subject matter is weak and played out. Age is def showing (though, peers, Quik and Snoop managed with their great albums). On and on... I'll always support WC/Lynch Mob. But damn, aside from a few decent songs, this is embarrassing. If I had to sum this album up in one word it would be CORNY

are you fuckin kiddin me? Talkin bout age when WC still sounds hungry as shit and Snoop sounds like he is sleepin on every track today?
This album was and is still dope! Waaaaay better then Doggumentary.
One thing though is that the lyrics are definitely not mind blowing but that is also somethin you dont look for in a new WC album. Straight bangers 8)

The subject matter doesn't do it for me and the beats are blah. He sounds like an old man sitting on his porch yelling at kids on his lawn on damn near every track. Still love the guy, though :)

subject matter is a whole nother discussion. Subject matter on Quik, Snoop and WC's recent albums were all shit and old but if we talk MUSIC..?? CMON SON ;D
