Title: Looks like LeBron is staying in Cleveland (gonna announce his decision Thursday)
Post by: Halu Sination on July 06, 2010, 10:20:17 PM
LeBron James will reportedly announce his NBA plans on ESPN Thursday night in a one-hour special. It will be an hour-long special documenting his career up to this point and then how he came to make his decision.

Dude is the biggest drama queen in sports history. Attention-whoring to a level that Brett Favre could only one day dream of achieving.

That said, all signs are pretty much pointing to him staying in Cleveland at this point. After the brainfart in the playoffs, I highly doubt he would even think of bringing this much attention to this whole thing if he planned on leaving. It is very unlikely they're going to document his career and his play-off disappointments with Cleveland, and then cap it off at the very end by him saying "Thanks Cleveland, I'm going to leave now."

If he DID do that though, then I will eat my words. And I think LeBron would get props for even having the balls to do something like that lol. But we all know he wont.

EDIT: I was wrong. I am eating my words in shock lol

I was a huge Lebron fan when he first came into the NBA, but he's turned into such an annoying ass attention whore, shit's sickening.

On the other hand, if he stays, he's gunna seem like a huge douche for making this huge ordeal and holding a press-conference, just to announce that...i guess it's a lose-lose situation for LeBron. Either way, he ends up looking like a complete douche.......I wonder why?

Despite the fact that it honestly would be a huge douche bag move for him to hold a one-hour conference only for him to say that he's leaving, the only people who would really hold it against him is Cleveland. Everyone else will probably be laughing their asses off.

But the point of all this drama is so the media can say "OMG the announcement is that LeBron is staying! What a shocking, heroic move!" Only problem is, everybody has caught on. They know damn well he wouldn't be doing this just to troll Cleveland. He's being the same predictable drama queen that he's always been. Of course, as I said, he might do something unpredictable and I will eat my words, but it really doesn't look like it's going that route.

This sort of reminds me when T-Mac announced to the world in a press conference that he was offering his starting spot in the All-Star game to Michael Jordan in an attempt to look like a class-act, only for it to backfire when Jordan revealed that Iverson privately offered him his starting spot already lol.

In his mind, if he moves to New York or Chicago, or any of the big-market teams, it's the greatest thing to ever happen to basketball, so I wouldn't be surprised if he holds a press conference for that and feels justified in doing so...in his egotistical head, Cleveland let him down, not the other way around. But it doesn't really matter, cuz either way, he's a douche, and that's exactly why he always ends up looking like one...

LOL. Well I'm not gonna lie, you do bring up a good point about him probably thinking that going to a big-market team is actually worth hosting a one-hour documentary about his decision.

But I'm going to stick with my prediction. The manner of which he went out was humiliating, so if he were to leave the team now, I'd have to believe that he'd want to do it discreetly.

He could three-peat without any of this if he set his mind to it and signs according to it. But if his best teammates remain to be Mo "I choke" Williams, Anderson "I lack offensive skills" Varejao and Zydrunas "I'm old and slow as shit" Ilgauskas, it is curtains regardless of how much he improves his game.
And the point is the Cavs can't really improve the roster all that much. They have no attractive pieces to trade, too many long term contracts, will never have cap space and have no high first round picks. All they can do is that trade with Toronto for Bosh, which would bring even more bad contracts in (Hedo, Jack) and send them into oblivion if Bosh and LeBron don't get it kickin.

It was a complex 3-way deal and it basically was that the Cavs traded Z (who they re-signed later after the Wizards bought him out lmao) and got Jamison and Telfair. Basically the Wizards just wanted to get rid of Jamison's contract, because Z had a rather big expiring contract.

i forget but who did they trade jamison for?

Exactly. They got the best record in the league two years in a row with that squad, the problem wasn't the team. The problem was both his playing style and the fact that Mike Brown's incompetent ass wouldn't run a play other than "give the ball to LeBron and let him just run into the paint." It might work in the regular season, but any time you play the same team 7 games in a row, the opposing team is going to catch on. And then the supporting cast is expected to step up and carry the load, except that's obviously not going to happen because they've never had to do that in the 82 games prior to the postseason.

Antawn Jamison was a damn good player. But obviously his strengths lie on the offensive end. What is the point of an offensive player who doesn't offer much on defense, when LeBron has the ball 99% of the time? LeBron's playing style forced Jamison into being a pure shooter, despite the fact that Jamison has an array of post-moves, he didn't need help creating his own shot. Similar issue went with Shaq. He's a player that obviously has to be in the paint, but that clogs things up and means LeBron has to stay on the perimeter, which is not LeBron's strongest area. Pairing LeBron with a bunch of offensive players who aren't worth much on defense is the wrong way to handle things, especially when they're not a good fit with LeBron on the offensive end to begin with.

It's not that LeBron needs a better supporting cast, he just needs a better fit. Troy Murphy, for example, is never even really considered as good as Jamison is, and yet he probably would have helped the team far more because he would have comfortably taken on the role as an outside shooter while doing his job grabbing boards on defense, accompanying LeBron very well.

And all of this would be a moot point if Cavs had a competent coach to begin with. One who actually ran offensive plays, forcing LeBron to expand his moveset and learning to play off the ball, thus allowing his otherwise teammates to actually do something in the game instead of being useless and chucking up shitty shots. Let's see if Byron Scott does just that.

I still can't believe dumb ass Danny Ferry hasn't signed Mike Miller 1-2 years back when he had the chance. Mike Miller would have fitted in greatly with the Cavs at that time, they might even have won the title if he did just that. A player who spreads the floor, instead of clogging the lane like Shaq did.

I'm not a Cavs fan by any means, I just feel bad about a player as great as LeBron to be wasted on a team with horrible management and horrible coaching in a boring ass city.

Yeah Danny Ferry is a dipshit. But to be honest, he busted his ass off these past couple years in an attempt to bring LeBron help. It was just too little, too late. By that time, Cavs already had a shitty coaching system implemented, so all of the quality players that they added had no real way of fitting in.

Wow, apparently LeBron originally intended to have ESPN cameras follow him around during his entire free agency. You have got to be kidding me, LMAO.

"James' plans were in the works in some form for months, according to sources, having talked with ESPN about filming his entire free-agency process for a documentary. For a while, this included some plans to take a tour across the country and visit interested teams," Windhorst writes.

When the Cavaliers were eliminated by the Celtics in the second round of the playoffs and LeBron struggled at times, those plans were scraped.

Exactly. He put mself in a no win situation. As for him staying in Cleveland, I think it's the right move. The entire state and franchise has embraced him and he's the become face of the Cavaliers. He's a home town hero. Plus the whole "unfinished businesses" thing about his legacy. He would of been huge in New York, though.

it would be pretty moronic and not to mention hes been the biggest attention whore in sports history to be upset that melo didnt join the free agent class when he signed the extension couple years ago, made all this hype about them 3 being together and not doing it.

but it does hurt lebrons individual legacy to becoming the "best" player ever. if he joins miami hes done from that conversation.

I'm still going with my prediction.. which is staying in Cleveland. I don't see him going to a team that is clearly Wade's team, it'll be like KG & Pierce in 2008. Everyone knew KG was the better player, but the team was still considered Pierce's team and he was the one who got the credit as the team captain who stayed loyal throughout the thick and the thin. LeBron is in his prime and has his pride, he doesn't have to resort to that just yet.

haha i ment lebron acting like a goddamn fucking princess is why hes gettin the karma now. hes done dug a hole for himself, if he leaves cleveland his legacy is forever tarnished whereever he goes (esp. miami since hes gonna join up with 2 other superstars to contend) if he stays in cleveland i really dont see him winnning anything until kobe retires, celtics big 3 are retired, wade is too old, and the magics core are broken up.

lebron leaves the cavs he'll never be comparable to MJ or kobe. their true franchise superstars

Nah... Devin Harris is stylistically the last kind of player you would want to be a PG alongside LeBron. He's a poor shooter and really needs the ball in his hands to be effective. Brook Lopez is legit though.

Either way though, if LeBron was competing to win RIGHT NOW, then Nets is the last place he'd want to go. Knicks aren't exactly a better option either though. He might as well just stay in Cleveland instead of going to those two squads.

if lebron doesnt sign with the heat to join wade and bosh he will never win a title during his prime, and that is a fact.. what a waste on that shitty cleveland team.

if he signs with the knicks, he's an idiot. that would make him hated in cleveland he would STILL not have a great shot at multiple rings. LOL

Bird had HOFers, Magic had HOFers, MJ had HOFers, Kobe had Shaq (HOF), Kobe had All-Stars coming off the bench & a coach that supposedly "wins"; so you can't realistically tell me if LeBron were to sign with Miami, it would take away from his rings lol.

^Well, if he goes to Chicago with Boozer, Rose, Deng and Noah... he damn sure has a contender at hand! If he stays in Cleveland with Varejao as the third best player? Never goes to the Finals again.

Not to be a detail whore, but MJ had one HOFer. Singular, not plural. I personally think Rodman deserved to be in the HOF though. And Kobe has one All-Star. Again, singular not plural. And I'm not quite sure why that even came up, because an All-Star and a HOFer is a world of a fucking difference lol

And there's also another huge difference between the examples you gave and LeBron's scenario. Bird, Magic, MJ, and Kobe never had to leave any teams to join another HOFer's team somewhere else. The argument is really going to become "Wade had HOFers" because it's Wades team and LeBron (no matter how egotistical he may seem) knows that.

I'll repeat myself here... I don't see him going to a team that is clearly Wade's team, it'll be like KG & Pierce in 2008. Everyone knew KG was the better player (and outside of the city they played in, KG was way more popular), but the team was still considered Pierce's team and he was the one who got the credit as the team captain who stayed loyal throughout the thick and the thin. LeBron is in his prime and has his pride, he doesn't have to resort to that just yet.

True, I really do like his situation in Chicago.

Yeah, but Kobe was about to leave, begged to leave if they couldn't get him an amazing cast; they did & then everybody celebrates like he souly got the ring lol.

I'm big on it being a team game, if they come together & win a ring, I'll be the first to say the "MIAMI HEAT" are the champions; sure LeBron is a champion, but I won't be saying he's the reason they won. Just like all the Champs of the past. None of them did it alone, there was some sort of great help behind them & this case is no different. It's just not LeBron being a triple-double scoring machine.

Everybody makes the case he isn't a "leader" or "helps people be better", well here is a golden chance to prove he is. I can understand why people would hate on it, I mean it only came up that LeBron would hurt himself because the Nets owner is upset that he knows that's where he's headed & tried to play at LeBron's ego.

Boston does it, nobody really hated KG, Pierce & Ray at the time they formed the big 3, so nobody gave them shit, until they proved they can win. This is just another case of people being upset they KNOW LeBron (the man everybody loves to hate) will MOST LIKELY get his first ring & people are running to the excuse book finding ways to take away from him.

When it's no different than anything else; it's harder if anything because all those other championship teams had a deep bench or at least a great starting five, even the Celtics had a great bench. This possible Miami team would have a bunch of minimum contract players around them, it's basically their big 3 vs. everybody.

Actually it's not a golden chance to prove he's a leader. It's quite the opposite. Again, he's joining Wade on Wade's team. When KG joined Pierce in Boston, KG pretty much conceded to the fact that he wasn't a leader (although he only really had one realistic chance in 2004, not nearly as many as LeBron realistically had). In 2008, I feel like KG was clearly the best player on the Celtics. But the fact that it was Pierce's team had skewed so many people's opinions into thinking Pierce being the best player of the team.

LeBron leaving his own team, after the humbling play-off failures, to join Wade would really only serve as extra ammunition against him. If LeBron actually cares about that, and I think he does, then I think what 7even brought up is actually his best option if he has to leave Cleveland. Chicago has no HOFers yet (they do have a developing superstar though), LeBron would obviously be the leader of that team. And they'd have a damn good chance as contenders.

lol and lebron doesnt have an allstars? mo williams, jamison, artest hasnt been an all star since 2004, and if u consider that sitll an all star might as well put shaq and big Z too. lebron is joining 2 other stars in their prime, lebron and bosh have no sense of loyalty. i highly doubted wade would of left even though hes an attention whore just like the other 2.

If Lebron wins a title with Miami (if he goes there), alongside Wade and Bosh....its on par with Kobe's titles with Shaq. IMO, they mean less. The only advantage I would give LeBron in that situation, is that he would still be considered the best player on the team...whereas Kobe was number 2 on the three peat Lakers. Now Lebron would have TWO bonified superstars to Kobe's ONE with Shaq. It still means a LITTLE that LeBron would be the guy on this Heat team. Either way, its bullshit. If he goes to the Heat, he is gonna have a good part of the country routing for them to fail. He wont cement a legacy for himself by winning titles with one of the other top players of his generation, and one of the best bigmen in the league. He should go to NY IMO, team up with soft ass Amare....and create a feud with the Heat. Lebron/Amare vs Wade/Bosh.

yea it would be better for their legacies, and would create a mad rivalry, but i still think the nets is a much better option, the talent is spread out more and i know the owner is down to go way over the cap limit and pay luxury tax is lebron goes there.

the knicks got amare, while nets got harris and lopez, if harris goes back to what he did when carter was on the team, he'll be fine.

but if lebron leaves the cavs hes done being in the same convo as kobe and MJ, and none of that HOFer nonsense if lebron were to win the last 3 years wouldnt his teammates be considered hofers? lol seriously man.

I'm not giving LeBron "all" the credit like you moronic Laker fans give Kobe for what Shaq did.

Daygo got it though, it's no different than Kobe winning with Shaq; so Laker fans should be the last ones to talk when they say "He needed Wade" lol.

I know the comeback..."But Kobe did it without Shaq"; yeah, but Gasol + Artest + Odom + Bynum = Shaq lol; if not better.

Anyway, Looney, you can be quoted saying this team "cannot win" because of the lack of support off the bench. So if they do win that would be pretty impressive, no? Talk about contradictions.

no they can win, just not if  the lakers have kobe, ron ron, odom, bynum, and gasol.  if they do beat the lakers itll be impressive or the nuggets, but anything besides that no. their not gonna win next year they need to make adjustments. see what next years off season or season gives them, trades , draft, signings etc etc.

^Oh, you're talking about Hall of Famer James Worthy? Oh, okay; yeah, he was wack.

I'm not discrediting anybody, I don't even discredit Kobe; I just pull him down from the moon you guys put him on & make you understand that Odom is coming off the bench for the Lakers, where he would be the 2nd best player on nearly half the teams in the NBA lol.

Kobe is a factor, just like every other player on every other championship team; just like LeBron would be if he plays & wins with the Heat.

You guys are stacked with great talent & you act like Kobe carried them on his back; why do you think his PPG were down? Because it was the EXACT opposite of him carrying them on his back, they took the weight off & helped him win the ring.

I'll say it forever, .500 record the years he was alone & got his ass bounced out; you mean to tell him Kobe magically got better or his talent got much better? I usually bring up the fact LeBron was alone in '06 (unless you're saying Big Z is a future HOFer lol) & made it to the Finals, but I don't even need too because that's not the point. I can't think of the last team to win a ring where the Superstar leading the way was all alone.

Spurs - Duncan & Robinson, then Duncan, Parker, Manu
Lakers - Kobe & Shaq, then Kobe, Gasol, Artest, Odom, Bynum
Pistons - All members of the starting five made the All-Star team lol.
Heat - Wade & Shaq

People get help, it's just fans of other teams hate LeBron & since Wade is the 3rd best player in the league some of you are catching feelings because you know it could potentially be over before it even begins.

LeBron would be taking a 30 million dollar pay-cut of what he could be getting elsewhere, going into Miami knowing that his numbers will be down in every category, which has some effect on his personal legacy & is doing all of this to win? Why is that a bitch move? You know you would turn around & say "Oh he's only going 'here' for the money, he doesn't care". But he clearly wants to win & is making personal sacrificies to do so. So people who hate on him for being a selfish, ego-manic; how do you say that if he goes to Miami, takes paycuts & loses PPG, assists & rebounds, for the soul purpose of winning?

^Artest was already named a great defender. Gasol was one of the best big men in the league & they gave him some credit for that. You Laker fans touted Bynum as the next Wilt lol & Fisher brings some veteran prescense & Odom had a nice career for himself before he was even a Laker. These were established names lead by one of the best players in the game; but they without a doubt supported him a lot more than your average teammates.

LeBron had Mo Williams & Antwaan & a 38 year old Shaq lol.

& James Worthy is a HOFer, it doesn't matter if you build a team around him, you put him with Magic Johnson & Kareem (arguably two of the greatest players ever) & you're going to win.

It's not taking away from Magic, it's being realistic about Magic's situation; he had help.

so your saying worthy is a legit superstar and you would build upon him? wade, bosh, lebron are basically hofers, their franchise players that can be built upon. they built upon lebron and didnt work, they built upon kobe and it did. honestly i dont know why in teh world they picked up shaq, did they not know he was gonna clog up the lane like he did in the suns? i do feel bad for lebron for having a useless coach, and a FO that obviously didnt bring hte right pieces.

the thing is lebron cant will himself to it. lebron isnt comparable to kobe at all. lol what happened, to the cavs being the deepest team? deepest bench? bette rthan the lakers. funny how the perspective changes after they lose.

lebron isnt as good as hes hyped up to be, he doesnt take over games, if he did he would of won a ring by now, he has lil to no post moves , all he does is drive it to the whole and a lower than average jumpshot, he was predicted to win it for the past 2 years, and won one game against the magics than the year after that lost to the aging celtics.

i dont even get why they started jamison, i mean wtf is the FO or the coaching staff thinking? if hteir gonna get jamison make him the 6th man how the hell did they think jamison was gonna be dominant offensively while sharing the court with lebron.

Shaq was the best big of his era, Gasol is a true All-Star, Odom is an All-Star caliber player, Artest used to be an All-Star...

Duncan? Ginobili was an All-Star, Parker was an All-Star, Bowen was a lock for Defensive First team

Celtics? 3 All-Stars.

But yeah, LeBron is such a loser for choosing to team up with great players. LOL
