Less than a half hour ago. Election campaign starts tommorrow, looks like it will be January 16 or 23.

Thank god!
Even though I'm not confident things will change. I think we're stuck with the Liberals forever. >:(

Beautiful avatar there.
I think the Tories have a good shot as long as they run a good campaign. The Liberals aren't up too much and governments typically fall at least 5 points during a campaign. Stay positive.

Martin criticized the "alliance of new-Conservatives, the separatist Bloc Québécois and the New Democrats" for forcing an election.
He warned Canadians that during this campaign, they will hear nothing positive from the opposition because they have "no positive agenda for Canada."
"That is the fundamental difference between us," he said.
Martin, who boasted of his government's economic and social record, took particular aim at Conservative Leader Stephen Harper.
"The Canada that is imagined by Stephen Harper and the Conservatives is starkly different from the Canada that we want to build."
He accused Harper of being silent on the softwood lumber dispute with the Americans and accused him of allying himself with the separatists.
Martin slammed the Bloc for only wanting one thing: "A referendum to divide us and break up our country .... Ask them if the world is going to wait for us. Our competitors are not within our borders; our competitors are outside our borders. It is not the time to divide us. We will win."

If stephen harper can get this shit up and have a chance to win the elections ill vote for him, if not i'll vote for bloc québécois like i did last time

Lets go Liberals!
-
another Lib minority....
btw, Quebec lost forever. your potentially next leader sucks cock
-
I miss Canadian politics. :(
And I am finally old enough to vote. (in a month)
O well.
-
as long as Harper is the leader of the conservatives, they won't win. The Liberals will win again. Hopefully a majority this time so the conservatives have more time to regroup.
-
Liberals will win
minority govt
-
i hate harper... voting liberal.
-
What's with all this Harper hate in here? I don't understand, how can someone like private health care using, company out of Barbados to avoid high Canadian taxes, stuttering ass Paul Martin over Harper? It's beyond me.
-

Hell no, another majority would be terrible. Another minority would be ok, Harper would resign and the Tories could get a really charismatic leader like Peter MacKay. That's who I'll likely vote for if there's a leadership race.
-
Belinda stronach ethered that chump MacKay...man, 5 yrs from now when im the Lib MP from Etobicoke, MacKay better hope he aint in parliament with me, son i will eat his food.

well, all the canadians are really afraid of what this dude can do, that's why you always attack him on his past or is sexual orientation.

Lol, you really planning a run? I was considering running as an independent or new Reform if the election was held in the spring, but apparently that won't happen.
No one beats MacKay in the Commons, that guy destroys his opponents; "Looks like the Minister of Public Works is just a parrot, which makes sense since the Prime Minister is a pirate". Easily the funniest MP.

Oh come on. Bosclair can't do a thing, the PQ might have a bounce in the polls right now but Charest has 2 years still to bring himself back up, and the ADQ is making their biggest gains yet. I'd be surprised if there's a majority in the Quebec legislature next time around.

Just out of curiosity Drunk Driver Drivin, what would Harper have to do specifically in order to gain your support (as you said in an earlier post)? I'm surprised Quebec hasn't turned to the Tories to be honest. Don't most Quebecers want mostly to have more freedom from the Feds? Harper has a long track record of being strongly in favour of a more decentralized Federal government with an emphasis on provincial autonomy.

first he should stop talking about the missiles shield and those kind of shit, canadians dont want war
then he should shut the people in his own party who talk against gays and abortion and are for death penalty
and he could be more charismatic
beside that, i'd vote for this dude cuz i'm business minded and i hate liberals.
-
i forgot something important. The dude aint focusing on quebec, we never saw him here, he can't elect just one person in the whole province. it wouldnt be a good thing for us quebecers if the governement is all english

The missile defense had nothing to do with war. It actually had more to do with Canadian sovereignty, not signing on is just going to give the Yanks more power over our airspace.
If people in his party are against the three issues you stated, it's their right. It's not official party platform. Members from all parties have made statements against all three, it's just the media has blown it out of proportion when it's a Tory who says it. Banning abortion, the death penalty, and repealing gay rights would be impossible anyways, since the courts have thrown attempts in the past and will continue to in the future.
And charisma shouldn't really be a factor in voting. He's a good leader. One of my all time favourite quotes is "Real leadership is often the antithesis of popularity" which is a very true statement.

Seriously? Harper's been critisized for spending TOO MUCH time in Quebec. Everyone's on his ass about focusing on Ontario. Dude's been in Quebec a fair amount.

Typical Canadian voter here. ::)

You know, this election is historical. It's the first time a government has ever fallen on a straight motion of non-confidence.
It could also be the first time the government is not formed by the Liberals or the Progressive Conservatives which no longer exist.

I think the conservatives aren't united behind Harper, and Harper hasn't done enough to try and get his party united. Personally, I think he should have stepped down after losing the last election. I don't have a problem with the Liberals being in power. I mean our country is doing okay. Just as long as the NDP isn't in, I'm fine. Quebec complains about not getting what they want, but BC just flat out doesn't get anything. I'll be working on James Moores campaign. He's my choice for my MP, but beyond that, the outcome of the election has little effect on me.

I think Harper's done a pretty good job actually. He took two parties who hated each other and got them to work together, force the Liberals into minority, and make huge electoral gains. But yeah, the country's ok but personally I don't want to settle for just ok. I want better than ok to leave to my children.

So what's been the impressions of the campaign so far? Harper fumbled by mentioning same sex marriage, but at least he's being honest and consistent. Layton's looking really oppurtunistic, I doubt he'll make many gains because his support will be so fragmented. Duceppe is going to lose credibility because he's focusing on asinine issues like a Quebec soccer and hockey team. Martin is just looking plain bad.
It's all up in the air.
-
martin said somthing dumb in french this week. a business man asked him what could he do to imrpove tourism in vorion and he answered that the for the europeans the canada was top 5 destination based on the top 10 good destination outside our frontier. My father said that he must have the same frecnh teacher as jean chretien

LOL! That's pretty funny. Both him and Chretien can't speak worth a damn eh? Both of them speak bad English too, Martin stutters his ass off.

I love this Harper statement:
"I believe that all taxes are bad," Harper said as he outlined the Conservative pledge to slash the Goods and Services Tax by two per cent over five years. "Better taxes are lower taxes."

Yeah I couldn't agree more. However the GST cut doesn't go nearly deep enough. Harper himself was one of the authors of the Reform Party's plan to get rid of the GST over 7 years, I don't know why he doesn't bring that back.
-
It was a good idea for Harper to say what he did about same sex marriage. He got it out of the way right off the bat. Now the Liberals can't speculate or speak on Harpers views, because he already put that issue to rest.
Harper probably got a lot of people excited about lowering GST too. So far Harpers doing surprisingly well.

Good point on same sex marriage, I didn't really think of it that way. Smart move.
GST cut will get people happy, and when he shows his income tax plan people he'll likely get more support.

Today's Liberal Laugh
A man enters a bar and orders a drink. The bar has a robot bartender.
The robot serves him a perfectly prepared cocktail, and then asks him, "What's your IQ?"
The man replies "150" and the robot proceeds to make conversation about global warming factors, quantum physics and spirituality, biomimicry, environmental interconnectedness, string theory, nano-technology, and sexual proclivities.
The customer is very impressed and thinks, "This is really cool." He decides to test the robot. He walks out of the bar, turns around, and comes back in for another drink. Again, the robot serves him the perfectly prepared drink
and asks him, "What's your IQ?"
The man responds, "about a 100." Immediately the robot starts talking, but this time, about football, NASCAR, baseball, supermodels, favourite fast foods, guns, and women's breasts.
Really impressed, the man leaves the bar and decides to give the robot one more test. He heads out and returns, the robot serves him and asks, "What's your IQ?"
The man replies, "Er, 50, I think." And the robot says... real slowly... "So............... ya gonna vote for the Liberals again?"

LOL that was a good one!!! we need a official Liberal Laugh thread in the g-spot ;D

For real. We could just do it here though.
My Hero Paul
A young man named Paul bought a donkey from an old farmer for $100.00. The farmer agreed to deliver the donkey the next day. When the farmer drove up the next day, he said, "Sorry son, but I have some bad news...the donkey is on my truck, but he's dead."
Paul replied, "Well then, just give me my money back." The farmer said, "I Can't do that. I went and spent it already."
Paul said, "OK then, just unload the donkey anyway". The farmer asked, "What are ya gonna do with him?" Paul said, "I'm going to raffle him off." To which the farmer exclaimed, "You can't raffle off a dead donkey!"
But Paul, with a big smile on his face, said, "Sure I can. Watch me. I just won't tell anybody that he's dead."
A month later the farmer met up with Paul and asked, "What happened with that dead donkey?" Paul said, "I raffled him off. I sold 500 tickets at two dollars a piece and made a profit of $698.00."
Totally amazed, the farmer asked, "Didn't anyone complain that you had stolen their money because you lied about the donkey being dead?"
And Paul replied, "The only guy who found out about the donkey being dead was the raffle winner, when he came to claim his prize. So I gave him his $2 back plus $200 extra, which is double the going value of a donkey, so he thought I was a great guy."
Paul grew up and eventually became the Prime Minister of Canada, and no matter how many times he lied or how much money he stole from Canadian voters, as long as he gave them back some of the stolen money, the liberals thought he was a great guy.
-
LOL IT HAD ME ROLLING!!! "I'm going to raffle him off." lmao ;D

The Plane Truth
Before an audience of delegates from 175 countries attending the UN climate change summit in Montreal, Paul Martin said human behaviour is responsible for climate change and the world must alter its ways.
Feature this in your mind. We have Martin, with his arms outstretched, looking towards the heavens, and preaching the gossple of Kyoto. Ok got that picture?
Now get this, Paul Martin is traveling the country in an old Boeing 727 belching out smoke and green house gases at the rate of 1280 gallons of fuel per hour.
This is compared to the newer airbus, used by Stephen Harper, that burns only 760 gallons of fuel per hour.
