Title: XXL King of New York
Post by: The Ghost When I Zone Off on March 18, 2004, 04:15:43 PM
Did any of yall read the article in XXL recently profiling who they thought were the top New York rappers?
Here's how the list went:

1.Nas
2.50 Cent
3.Jadakiss
4.Ghostface Killah
5.Cam'ron

The list went on but I stopped reading after they put 50's ass over Jada and Cam'ron. 50 Cent better than Jadakiss? 50's flow aint even that great he ain't got shit on Jada. And as for Cam'ron, Cam's got the whole city on his dick, everybody wearin pink and hollerin' Dipset!!! he also got a wicked flow too. 50's just got commercial appeal and that sure as shit doesent make you a better rapper, it just helps you sell. I ain't mad at XXL or nothin, just that was poor decision making I think, i don't know about yall...

The King of anywhere is not just who is the best rapper, but also battle skillz, which 50 fucked up Ja Rule, and also has to do with commercial sucess, and street rep, which 50 has for days and days. No king has been as great as Big, but honestly, those that put Big on your list, his been dead for 7 years, it's time to move on. It really is time to move on.

Terrible list. Where's Rakim? Pharoah Monche? Canibus? 50 number 2? Cam'ron on the list at all? Whack.

Well rakim hasn't exactly been keeping busy lately... These "king of such and such" things change every year, often more than once during each year. The next time somebody releases a new, great album, that guy will be the "king of such & such" - be it New York, Cali, Dirrty South, Pimpin', the underground, Bling Bling (although there's not so much of that going on in music nowadays, thank God) - what ever.

Well rakim hasn't exactly been keeping busy lately...

Atleast Rakim has released an album more recently than Mos Def or Lloyd Banks (who were on the list).

And don't see how they ranked credibility.  Nas' example was terrible, weren't those two quotes from like eight years apart?  That was hadly a condradiction, can't people be in different moods or change thier mind about something?

Who's on the cover of that XXL-issue.

Its has Biggie on the front.

I respect that XXL have their own opinion but how is Cam'ron gonna get XXL for credibility and Mos Def get XL, thats just laughable.

Necro and Non-Phixion run the underground scene in New York...

i actually agree with the first 2

1. nas-probably the most talented BIG NAME rapper from NY
2. 50- c'mon he's the biggest name in rap right now...he's got street AND commercial cred....plus he makes choruses that rival Nate's

cam shouldn't be on that list and jada isn't that big

Immortal Technique and Saigon are much better than Non Phixion and Necro.

IT and Sai are the best emcees in NY, right now.

Nas would be the King of NY right now, since Jay is gone. He kinda just falls into it.

I don't think so, buddy...They're on the same level, but I prefer Non-Phixion & Necro, due to production...Have you even heard Non-Phixion's album?

^^Don't worry. NIK just dickrides Necro. LMAO @ Necro running the Underground. I see Thirstin Howell doing more than him. What about Sean Price?

IT's production is ILL. So is Sai-giddy's.

LMAO @ Sales.

Also, considering you call Sean Price, Sean Prince, it's probably safe to say you know nothing about him.

What's the point of calling a person dumb, when you can't even spell right? Exactly Gonz.

As much as I don't like Cam, I do agree with him up there. He is gutta, he has street cred, and he is always challenging Nas to battle. Mos def hasn't put out an album since 1999, but always stays active, but is not streets, but is more of a political force.

Rakims last album was also in 1999, but you rearly hear from him, and his prime is over. Though if Rakim ever releases whatever Dre gave him with Oh My God, and puts some Primo into it, then I think the streets will be buzzing as Rakim will take back his throne.

Question, when will anyone challenge Snoop for King of the West. Since 2Pac died, his held the crown and no one has challenged him. I though Xzibit would but his buzz calmed down. The west needs a new king to freshen it's image. But until someone knocks down Snoop, his the King. But someone challenging him would mos def make heads turn west again like they turned east when Nas and Jay-Z were battling.

What does a typo have to do with my ability to spell? Damn, you're even dumber than I thought, fatso.
