Title: Aftermath Demos - Midi Mafia, Denaun Porter, Focus, Jake One & More
Post by: Malcy on February 24, 2021, 05:25:17 PM
Just saw these posted on YouTube from the same guy who has unreleased Firm & Dr Dre tracks.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4j2OiaFLztE

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gd2KR1NrFXQ

Both for sale but doesn’t give a lot of info on that or the music itself.

Damn, Dre didn't do shit when it comes to that one Bishop Lamont beat. Maybe added the strings or conducted how Bishop recorded the verse, but nothing else.

Why doesn't that dude name a price though ?

It's strange because he said he would only sell the Firm tracks for a 'life-changing' sum of money then said that he's working with a hip hop museum to preserve the tracks. Which is it? I don't really know that there is much of a market for these 2 so maybe he's cutting his losses and going to try sell what he can.

Dr. Dre produced the song. Doesn't mean he had anything to do with the beat.

Meh.

If this is what Dres ghosts were bringing him to polish up I can see why Detox didn't get dropped. The decent ones sound like obvious Dre homages/retreads and the wack ones are wack. Thanks for sharing though.

Really? I really like it, the drums knock, the snare is crisp and the waka waka waka Pacman sounds are amazing. Battlecat or Khalil, whoever did his thing. Does sound like Khalils drums though and the production is nothing like Battlecat to my ears so I think someones got it twisted.

If we're talking greatest Detox leaks/beats its got to be Topless (which is for sure a Khalil beat, compare it to Compton Sirens and you'll see why I think he did that one too):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hv5REpLF3ro

This slightly mastered version with that extra bit of shine was so good and it illustrates perfectly what I said about Dre adding layers and layers of production as he works on it further as you can hear the progression from the first TI leak. Wish he'd rapped that reference verse as well as it was dope and extra arrogant but Nas owned this track with one of the best features he's ever dropped.

Now that I think about it: Those snippets should've been shorter. I mean those beats are nice, but what are we supposed to do with them?
Wouldn't pay more than 10 bucks for them.

See I don’t think there really is a market for these. The struggle in getting people to buy the Kanye/Dre stuff is evident enough that as much as people want them they simply aren’t interested in paying thousands per track. I suppose it’s lucky he was the one that bought the storage unit that these were in though. Someone else might have just seen CD-R’s and chucked them out.

I do wonder did he have prior knowledge of the unit belonging to the Aftermath president. He has those other unreleased Dre/Firm tracks as well. It’s possible they were all in the same purchase but there’s been a huge gap in him uploading those snippets compared to this folder of stuff.

Not directly related to this case specifically, seeing how the current owner didn't hog the material for decades, but.......this is pretty much what happens when most (hip-hop) tracks remain in the ''vault'' for too long. People who were young and hyped about these decades ago are now much older and have lost interest and moved on, whereas all the youngstas have zero interest in these whatsoever. Many other genres where the value appreciates, but not hip-hop. There are exceptions of course.

Very true. About 15 years ago when I was earning a huge amount of money I would have happily shelled out for this kind of stuff. Now my musical taste is even broader than it was then, and with so much to enjoy, I wouldn’t say I’m not arsed about hearing stuff people are hoarding but it’s more a feeling of realisation that this is a huge waste.

Some part of it is definitely an ego thing. “I have something you don’t but want, give me a ridiculous amount of money”! Don’t get me wrong if I ended up with unreleased stuff I’d probably sit on it for a week and see if I could understand that logic then share it.

There’s a real risk these things will just end up lost. The owner dies and family throw it away not realising it’s value. Not a monetary value but the value people who would get to hear it would gain from the opportunity to.

The TV show Doctor Who is like this. Over 100 episodes thrown in a skip in the 70’s. Some found abroad at stations it was sold to and some in the hands of private collectors who get a buzz from loading up a tape reel and watching it knowing that they are probably the only person in the world with a surviving copy of something that would bring joy to millions and with restoration and physical media releases both money and jobs. It’s sickening.

Thanks.

This particular version that we have here has definitely been edited before it was leaked. The Em verse was added in (poorly) as you can hear a quality shift and on top of that whoever leaked it brickwalled the mix.

Did anyone ever get the untouched files?

If you listen to the DOC mix that leaked at the same time it was definitely untampered and I'd be willing to be the original source files for Topless (Mastered) were the same. Sounds much better now without Em on it but I'd still like to hear the proper version now the eHype has died down so whoevers got it, let it ride.

Finally something halfway decent.

Sounds like a Mike Elizondo/Storch beat that Dre had some work in progress production elements going on, would put it around the 2000 era as it sounds like what those two were doing around then. More than likely this was retooled and evolved into Family Affair as there are a lot of similarities.

Forgot about that one. Think that was Dre beat yeah, or at least it was never disputed anyway. Was there not something said about a lot of the GRODT beats being meant for Rakim originally?

Just as further evidence Dre produced After You Die. Busta used that same beat for Legends Fall Off on The Big Bang and that is credited to Dre as the producer

Yeah that's right. Same vocal sample but different beat. First time I heard that beat I was really impressed by his creative use of grave digging!

Imagine how bad it must've felt for this guy to have discovered a container full of Dre beats and then sitting there popping in CD after CD and listening to this pure unadulterated wackness.

I'd have posted them back to Aftermath with a note that says "Eh Dre, stick to selling headphones"

So this track comes up in the ending credits of a movie called War with Jason Statham.  I remember seeing it many years ago and hearing the beat at the end.  If i remember correctly the hook was on it but no lyrics from Rakim.   I believe Mark Batson was credited as the producer.  Also another fun fact....Dont get carried away by Busta was featured in the 2nd Fast and the Furious movie as the interlude when they show how Paul Walkers character got from LA to Miami.  It was a stripped down version of it and i believe Camara Kambon was credited for that one...2002 or 2003 i think.

He also posted this Game 100 Bars & Running snippet. I checked my music though and it was released without DJ so this one is already out there I'm sure.

On this same CD there is also a song that has the same beat as Rakim’s After You Die.

It seems the uploader has quite a substantial haul from that storage locker including the aforementioned Rakim reel and a bunch of Eminem demo's and reels, Royce stuff etc.

Unfortunately he thinks he is going to sell them for MILLIONS of $! I've tried to explain to him that he will never get that but I think it's going in one ear and out the other. Another person commented that the market for Eminem stuff is huge because people group-bought a track called Nut up for less than $1500...

Tell him I'd pay him to stop sharing these awful clips of third rate beats that nobody wants to hear but keeps checking out of morbid curiosity in case we actually get something that knocks. If OG Locs rap career was personified as beats they'd sound like these.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPDjEiTCgqE

Except OG Loc is more entertaining. Heck I'd even listen to a knock off Diggler wannabeDre beat than these and thats on Cuhrip.

Ya plus the guy is kinda a dick. Nobody is going to buy this stuff at his price levels, he obviously doesn't have any prior experience with material like this and no idea of what it actually sells for. He literally just throws out numbers. Sooner or later the label will send a cease and desist or sue him if he tries monetizing his youtube channel. I don't think he understands intellectual property rights either. Hard to buy from someone untrustworthy with no people skills. He could just throw it all up on youtube after.

Really cool haul though! Wish it would have went to someone grounded in reality.

LOL at you being a dick riding groupie with his face pressed up against the window pane, thirsting to hear some straight up trash like this and getting offended when someone calls them out for the bottom of the barrel scraps they are.

That desperation, I can smell it through the screen... (https://www.thecoli.com/data/xengallery/18/18705-1ec4a8d8164759d390b99880b11fb1fe.jpg)

It might not be great stuff but I like the leak behind the curtain of stuff they decided wasn’t good enough to finish, or stuff that later become something else.  Does seem like a major haul - was found in an old storage locker is that right?

I am pretty sure you were claiming to have Crooked I's Untouchable album at some point and don't remember you having particularly great people skills during the few convos we had years ago either lol.

At least this guy is sharing some parts of what he has in his possession, which is something which can be said about very few of the people with truly rare stuff.

Call it how it is. The problem with this bitch made net gangsta nerd scene has always been the people in it. Back when it was all good as there was only a handful and tech was the new wave then egos crept in and then you started seeing all kinds of stupidness and antics kick in when forums and things started popping up. When it was all organic back on AIM up until I'd say 99 it was pretty great now you've got whiny little bitches getting shit for free and still complaining.

Lol thats because y'all seem to think you're entitled to things and I don't have any patience for ppl low balling me or begging for tracks. It's not like this shit gets found on a sidewalk outside and its my duty to give it to you for whatever you feel like offering. This whole scene is pretty wack for the most part. Most collectors stay off the boards and keep to themselves. Good memory though. Im not exactly shopping things on youtube publicly asking for millions, so kinda a weak comparison tbh. He's trying to get enough subs to monetize a youtube channel. What a hero. Anyways, back to collecting in silent...

That's a whole lotta nonsense you typed in there, only time I talk to sellers I ask them to name their price, unless we agree to trade tracks/items. Long and short of it was you got asked about an album you claimed to have and instead started offering items that nobody was asking about trying to make a sale. Nobody expects things for free, collectors hogging material stay off the boards because they are usually unbearable when trying to push some dusty reference CDs they purchased off Ebay (and yes, I remember you owned DATs)

Dre wasn't getting brought enough good new quality from new talent to take from, which is why Detox never ever dropped. It has nothing to do with Dre's creative "talents". Everyone already knew at that point that without Scott Storch, Elizondo, Mel-Man and Kambon that album wouldn't have even existed and most of those guys had been lucky enough to be able to go out and carve out their own careers with their own names, probably only allowed, to be able to limit the legal drama that Dre's past was already cooking up from writing and producer credits.

Hell, even the headphones idea was Stephen Lamar's. Jimmy and Dre just jacked the idea - just like 50 did from G-Unit members with the vitamin water
