not really feeling it too much.  it's kind of corny.  the rock metaphors are lame.  the chorus was disappointing.  they sound best on their gutter shit.

agreed, but i am still feelin' this joint.

A little underwhelming..

When I heard first single produced by Khalil, and a track with M.O.P. by Nottz, I was expecting insane stuff.. I've heard way better from all these artists.

they're also dope on that personal tip like Move On.  Their worst track is that club joint they tried to do, it was a remix.

^they could be reaching a little bit for some radio exposure.

the hook & the beat sound radio friendly.

Crooked asked for Slaughterhouse to cover the new edition of XXL.

we'll see how their next single or leak goes.

Post by: Matty on July 02, 2009, 04:29:39 PM
i got a feeling the other khalil track on the album will be a banger. this is a cool single for some mainstream spins, slow burn like 'kinda like a big deal' but not as good...
Title: Re: [Audio] Slaughter House - The One
Post by: Action! on July 02, 2009, 04:34:54 PM
It's clear this is aimed for the mainstream.  I mean they did shoot a video for it.

I'll say Crooked's flow was exceptional for his first couple bars until he said,

Quote
they want to ban me like marylin manson

Then it went back to his usual flow.

If they do get radio play, at least they spitting even if it's some semi-dumb down shit.  I was expecting a classic party joint but this ain't it.  Hit the lab again boys.

Tracks like this lead me to believe they might be spreading themselves too thin with all their projects.  I'm still excited for the release.

Eh, for a group that was suppose to show what real hip-hop is and all that bs they sure showed how to decrease themselves to you average rapper this day with your average club track. It sounds like they were going for a mix of Kinda Like A Big Deal and We Made You.

Move On remains the only real top notch Slaughterhouse track.

Mehh...its not bad, its alright, one of there weaker tracks. Obv aiming for the mainstream with this. I like the beat, used similar drums like on Wack MC's and they spit decent but i dont know what i think of the hook lol. It might be a grower!!!

i think you guys are just comparing this to Move On & then moving on lol.

not every song is going to be that good & this song is aiming for some radio play; get fans to listen to them & then hit them with tracks like Move On on the album.

this song isn't their best, but it isn't bad either.

better than 100% of anything you will hear on the radio today, unless you count the old school hour where they play Pac & Big. :P

Its a single so I never expected anything amazing but I liked it.It serves its purpose.People that are a fan of slaughterhouse already know about them and their skills and they will show that on the album. This is just a more mainstream song in an attempt to grab some attention from the average person.I mean what were people expecting a 7 min song of lyrical fury that would never get played once on the radio?

Yeah the hook is dope and the beat is very funky. To answer Jaydc555 I wasn't expecting a lyrical fury but I did expect a quality mainstream joint. It seemed like they didn't know what to do with the beat, they all sound out of place.

It's fucked up when a fan's expectation or a person expectations for a single is it not to be good.  Fuck that, I've got high expectations and it's not just my imagination.  They themselves claim to be 4 great lyrical MCs, they built the hype.  I ain't dumbing down my expectations.  They need to step up.  End of story.

I like the song.  It's not my favorite song that they've put out so far, but I respect that they tried something different.  Overall, I don't think this song will be typical of what we hear on the album.  I think most of the tracks will be more on the lyrical side.

I like the fact that this feels more like a complete song than alot of their tracks, the beats nice (as expected its Khalil 8)) but i think the hooks weak and the verses were cheesy, im a tad dissapointed but i dont mind it considering its a crossover single and they're trying to appeal to the masses

there are dope rhymes between the hooks - automatically makes this better than 90% of 'hip-hop' music coming out. it's a grower, but my head is bumping already 8)

Indeed:)

This is what I expected from the single, crazy beat to rhyme indeed. Not the classic Khalil stuff tho. This is gonna get some radio play.

The song's a lot of fun, which might surprise those who have followed Slaughterhouse devoutly. It's great that a group comprised of po-faced lyricists can make a song like this, without it sounding overly forced and, as a result, awkward. This works. Love the chorus, beat, and Joe and Ortiz's back and forth.

Hope this does some things for them!

Yeah I was real disapointed with the beat seeing as it was Khalil, same with that "Kinda Like A Big Deal", I mean, both beats were dope, but not the sound I wanted to hear from Khalil... Give us that Detox sound, that "Topless" and "Show Sum Love" sound...

I can't believe this is the final version..  If it is, it's the mixing that is ass.. Not the mastering..   I feel this would be a banger if they coulda fucked with it more..

1) They couldn't have made a more hollow sounding snare, I know they coulda subbed another one in if Khalil chose that whack of a snare.

2) The guitar riff needs to be LOUDER.  It's the driving melody of the whole beat and you can BARELY hear it.

3) Why did they take the 1950's approach with the chorus?  I want to feel like this woman is belting it out live with the group, not being sampled in from the stone age..

4) The vocals are mixed on point.

5) No intro?  Seriously??  Just right into the chorus loop?  No Khalil...

This has to be a radio mastering, there's no way it's gonna sound like this on the CD.  They gotta remaster it and leak it again cuz I bet alot more fans download this song than radio DJs.

You're so right. I had the same problem with hood hop. It could be a banger but it doesn't sound like one. the energy is not transported at all. In the youtube videos of the video shoot and the studio session with primo both of these songs bang much more than the final product.

I feel that there's more potential to it so like you, said re-mix please!

i imagine the poor mixing has something to do with the fact that the beat was very likely supplied pre-made by khalil and that's as far as his involvement went. it's not like they would of had the budget to go in with him properly - someone else has obviously recorded the vocals and done the final mix, hence the loss in quality :-\
