KRS-One....hands down...he runs shit in NY...hes better than Nas, Gay-Z, Jadapiss, Ja Fool, Memphis Geek, Mobb Weak and anyone else who thinks they run NY....Fat Joe came up under KRS' wing so hes not the King for sure....even when B.I.G. was around...i think KRS held the crown....he wouldve annihilated B.I.G. in a battle...thats on the real....KRS is my choice if u didnt catch my drift..

In all honesty, I think its Wu Tang Clan.
36 chambers
Only Built 4 Cuban Linx
Liquid Swords
Wu Tang Forever
Ironman
Supreme Clientele
Iron Flag
Return To The 36 Chambers

^^^all of those are at least 4 mic caliber albums. Most of them are classic or near classic, and 36 Chambers and Cuban Linx are arguably two of the top 10 greatest albums ever made. Sure, they arent as good as they used to be, but they've put out so much classic material its sick, and they have set countless trends. I love Nas and Biggie to the fullest, but I think the Wu deserve it the most.

Well, after seeing tha One Mic video 2day, i gotta go wit NAS.

i know it's all opinion but i can't see how some of y'all can sit there and say nas wuz better then BIGGIE? that's a fucken joke homie. Nas is nothin compared to Biggie. Nas has such a fucken weak flow and his lyrics are not always as amazin as peeps say they are. On the other hand biggie always came correct and dropped two classics in a row where as Nas IMO dropped on classic and the rest garbage albums.

It was written and stillmatic are both classics but illmatic was the better album. Ready 2 die was biggies only classic album. Nas' lyrical ability was better than biggies easily. Nas puts a bit of meaning into his songs.

"It Was Written" was by no means a classic album... maybe above average. "Stillmatic" was denfinitely one of the best albums of 2001, but not a classic album. I believe a classic album must not contain any weak tracks. Therefore, neither "Stillmatic" or "It Was Written" qualify for classic status... also, Nas don't come close to Biggie's flow/delivery and his storytelling skills... both Jay-Z & Biggie have better charisma than Nas, which is also an important attribute for MCs... peace.

man that is obsurd...to even dare say it was written and stillmatic are classics....thats ridiculous...biggie was ten times better than nas' written ass...cmon at least biggie could freestyle....how can u people swear nas is a great mc when the bastard openly says he cant freestyle...thats not a real mc...biggie was the prince of new york...krs was the king...and krs still is...he puts more meaning into his songs than nas does....he has better lyrical skills...he gets more respect than nas....plus hes been in the game many years....what is this album 10 or is it more?....and he still hasnt lost his flavor....he never followed trends...hes always rapped about street life....i dont ever remember nas claiming to be a gangster til stillmatic....he never became a bling rapper....nas became one on nastradamus....in closing....nas is a biter...a trend follower...a written mc...krs is none of that....hes a REAL EMCEE...thats why hes the king of ny

um, ja fool an bleek aint even in tha same league as mobb deep, an i never said mobb deep was better than krs-one, did i, no. When its all said an done, mobb deep will go down as one of tha best duo's 2 ever come out of the east. an dont be puttin words in mouth sayin i said mobb deep were tha best duo of all time cuz i said they were one of tha best. an tha infamous is a definite classic i recommend u all go listen to it again. an secondly, no1, an i mean no1 in NY even considers ja fool an bleak to be tha king of NY, ight get your facts right.

I knew this would turn into a Nas vs. Biggie thread........Im gonna break it down for yall.
Biggie and Nas are both INCREDIBLE MC's, and to say one shits all over the other is ABSURD. Biggie did things Nas couldnt, and vice versa. As far PURE lyricism goes, Nas is superior, hands down. Why?? Illmatic. Illmatic MADE all the criteria and set standards on what dope lyricism is. Ready To Die is a great lyrical album, but it was clearly influenced from Illmatic, and back in 94', if you told anyone Ready To Die was better than Illmatic you woulda been SMACKED HARD. You could make that arguement NOW, but back then, everyone knew Illmatic was the better album. So yea, Nas set standards on how lyricism should be. Biggie wasnt getting any comparisons to Rakim, while Nas was. That says it all right there. Despite that, when it came to flow, Biggie was certainly nicer than Nas was. Biggie has all types of different flows, while Nas just had one basic flow [though he proved he can get more diverse with his flow in One Mic]. But Nas cant touch the flow Biggie had in "Gimme The Loot"............Storytelling, its VERY close. I cant call it, so Ill say they're equal in that department. Biggie however, did have ONE large advantage over Nas: He had the ability to make a dope commercial track, while all of Nas's commercial songs have been mediocre. As far as classic albums go, each of them had two. Biggie: Ready To Die and Life After Death. Nas: Illmatic and Stillmatic [It Was Written is a 4 micer, but not classic]. So, ill call it even............
-
oh yea to tha person that said nas can freestyle, he said one time 4 your mind was a freestyle an it says it right there in tha 150th issue of tha source an i also heard other nas freestyles 2, so whoever said that was wrong or either misunderstood
-
aight ya'll....ya'll have good points and arguements but im def gonna have to go wit da god.....rakim.....every album he came out wit eric b was monumental classics.....even on his solo albums he still proved his dominance as mc status........he obviously has been low-keyed but all mc's that come out are always compared to rakim......even nas was hailed as the next rakim but never achieved the status.....however wit "oh my god" i think rakim will change the face of hip-hop as he did when he picked up the mic when he was paid in full......
long live the king rakim
peace

biggie had ALOT of respect for nas playa...nas could FREESTYLE
cant remember where i read this(the source), but nas was with biggie here in the westcoast. i think it was frisco and they was posted in the telly(hotel) and some cat that wrote for the source played this beat for nas and biggie. and he said nas ripped the crap out of that beat. he said he was striaght flowin!! and he knew it was off tha dome cuz he was rhymin bout things around them or as they happened. he said he was in shock. and nas kept on flowin for a loooong time. this cat said everyone was in shock; BIGGIE included. when nas was done everyone looked at biggie like he was gonna pick up where nas left off. but biggie was like naw! i aint fuckin with that.
all im sayin is dont underestimate nas mayn. some of yall dont want to believe

;D king magazine spring 02' bymatt life
"the reason i hesitate to give him the freestyle crown is because of what happened late one night in san rancisco. aroud five o clock in the morning at he gavin convention in 94' guess who's knocking on my hotel door? big and nas, with a couple bottles of mo', like, "where the dank, matt?" i made a call, and ,needless to say, driving from oakland in the midle of the night was no problem for my man when i told him who was in the room.
"purple haz ablaze, i puled out the box and stated playing beats. immediately, nas started flowing, nonstop till the sun was out. i mean spitin perfect verses and choruses that sounded thought out for hours but could only be off the top due to the here and-now content. barely awake, but in total awe, i looked over at my an free sharring the room wth me. he was stuck. i looked at big-stuck. then nas picked up the glance and paused for big to start rhyming . after one long breah, big said," oh , hell no, i cant fuck wit duke" we laughed and nas just kept going "
theres tha truth right there!!! ;)

i said that ight dunni...lol...nas came on to the WAKE UP SHOW(the stomping grounds for REAL EMCEES) and when sway asked him to freestyle he declined....he said that he couldnt freestyle....he said but i can write something real quik....they gave him a while...he didnt even write anything....he spit an old verse.....now...that is openly saying that he can't freestyle....and most these freestyles on these mixtapes are written and or pre meditated rhymes.....thats straight up dunni...lol...so GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT!!!....

Why do most people think that because someone can freestyle better he is the better artist. I use the word artist firmly. If you want to talk about who can liven up the crowd, than give it to Biggie. But Nas's "art" is far superior to Biggie's. With every album Nas's lyrics have improved, covering much more important topics. He went from rapping about the streets (Illmatic), to rapping about cultural problems(It Was Written),and enhanced those topics(I Am), then covered religion and a little bit of foriegn affairs issues (Nastradamus), then rolled it all into one (Stillmatic). He showed he can do much more than most MCs. Maybe his freestyling isn't that great, but I doubt Picasso's rough scetches were considered masterpeices, or when Mozart played around on his piano , was that a Masterpeice. Although I have respect for the freestyle, it is the least important part of hip hop, and what hip hop should be. Messages should be being sent to the listeners (kick some knowledge). Biggie is nowhere near Nas in that department, he had a bit of it on his first album, then even less on his second one(I don't consider Life After Death a classic). Nas atleast sometimes has a purpose in his rap. However not always and everything Nas covers in the past has already been covered by the true King of New York (except for John Gotti), Lawrence Parker.

ok...let me tell you somethin about NAS...who prolly iz one of the luckiest mothafuckaz in tha game...you see...tha dude mannaged to drop a mos def classic album "ILLMATIC" as hiz first album, hiz debut...
and even tho hiz next effortz seemed to completelly miss that spark he brought wit ILLMATIC...he still remained respected and loved by headz....WHY, you aks....-for 2 reasonz which i keep mentionin for some time now :)....
1.hiz unbelieveable vocal spuremacy...and tha amazing resemblance to tha m.c formally known as THE GOD ( ;D)-vocally of course
2. he constantlly continues to follow the so called "stress a massage" formula.....and no metter how clumzy and inconsistent it may be done...headz will still eat it up simply cauze of tha fact dat it soundz(sonicly....) unblelieveably good...
alow me to remind you again- "SOUNDZ" ....what meanz headz have been fooled...and when it comes to MR Nasir Jones....they become BEAT\SOUND listenerz....and forget about topical consistency and about proper topical telling\delivery.
of course NAS haz improved greatlly on STILLMATIC...but yall can"t just close yo eyez on da shit dat waz happenin be4....shit iz so serious dat it makes me question not only hiz debut as a mearly one time sucsess...but also hiz latest and upcoming releasez....shit"z like a trauma...lol...of course it"z not fair to take tha right of a rapper to improve...but those 3 garbage can albumz made me loose my logical thinkin for a moment there...lol...but i apresiate NAS improving on STILLMATIC...and for now he haz my respect as an artist. :)
now BIGGIE....lol...BIGGIE waz unbelieveable....hiz storytellin skillz...charisma...flow...r tha top of tha top....
hiz debut din"t seem so much of a one time sucsess......not only cauze it waz longer....it basiclly shined wit confidence showing BIGGIE waz for long....of course somethin happent on "life after"
...but hey...it wazn"t as dissapointing as NASz second album...in fact it waz far from that kind of dissapointment...prolly cauze it waz half solid...:)....
but BIGz debut ...shit...only that shit put him to tha top of NY (not only NY tho)....for yearz to come....

i dont agree with u one bit....hip hop started off of freestyling...how could u say its least important...that really tests ur skills if u can onsite drop hot verses from the top....thats just my opinion
-
It doesn't matter who's better at freestyling between Nas and Biggie. Just like the king of the westcoast crown, Biggie and 2Pac ruled their coast, and people on each coast knew that. As of now, they are both passed on, hopefully resting. Let them rest, let them move on to better things. Their crowns are pasted down, as Snoop Dogg has clearly got the king of the Westcoast crown on lock. He runs the streets are all L.A. Crip gangs are down with him, and his untouchable, even by Suge Knight. Nas I think from what I've heard is getting the king of N.Y. crown, as people on the street reconize him as the one that beat Jay-Z and is calling shots in the rap game. Stillmatic was a freestyle, and the whole written/freestyle thing was basically something to say that Nas is a writter, a poet. But from what I've heard, right now N.Y. reconizes Nas as the king, and that's what matter. Biggie is gone, has been for 5 years now. N.Y. wants a new king, and Nas, like it or not, has took the crown. On the West, Snoop has had it for a long time. Until Jigga can top Either, and Xzibit gets more charisma to match Snoop, it will stay that way. R.I.P. Biggie and 2Pac, they died with their crowns, but we still need our kings.

im sayin ya'll how can u give any crown other than the mc known as "the god"......give it some thought......he changed the game of rap once......and the next album he will change it once more.....anotha thing bout him, i hear more mc's usin his lines than any otha rapper by far and away...no comparison at all.......but i mean he said it himself "i'm the R the A to the K I M if i wasnt than why would i say I Am".......the king forever.......
peace

Snoop was King of the West Coast twice. During The Chronic era until Pac dropped Me Against The World and then after Pac died. Nas is the new King of New York. Jay had his time. Xzibit is obviously the Prince of the West and maybe future King. If Dr. Dre was an MC then he would definitely be the King since '88.
-
Biggie was the King Of NewYork when he was alive but I don't think anyone is now...In terms of popularity Jay-z was the biggest in NY but his rep took a big hit when Nas shitted on him with Ether and people started to see Jigga as a bitch afterwards...Nas as far as skill level goes should easily be the King of NY but I don't think people in NY feel Nas like they did Biggie...People in NY felt about Biggie the way the West thought about Pac and I don't think they get the same feeling about Nas...

As I said. If Big was alive, then Biggie. But the people of New York in post 9/11 seem to want Nas. Nas is the one they chose. Rakim should be, since he was king of N.Y. back in 1988 through 1991, but now it's Nas. Biggies gone, his crown was buried with him, but the people are ready for a new king, so a new crown is made for Nas, as until Jigga can top Ether, the people follow Nas. I don't think Jigga is as popular in N.Y. anymore. It seemed people were waiting for an Ether to come out, so that Jigga can get knock off a throne he assumed, as oppose to being awarded by the people. After all, the people put Biggie up there, and now they want Nas. Case Close.
