Title: Sublime
Post by: Sofa_King_Awesome on January 22, 2006, 02:05:25 AM
A co-worker of mine was playing some of their shit, and I was feeling it. Can anyone recommend some more good material by them??

Just listen to your local rock radio station, they'll play every song they made in a day.

I really really really wish that dude wouldn't have OD'ed, he then would have made some more fucking songs they could playout on the radio or everytime I go to the beach and walk by some stoners apartment and hear the same fucking Sublime song over and over again.

Forget Sublime, after he died the band made a couple of songs with different people and some are pretty good.  Can't remember the CD title though but just ask some long haired hippy toker, he'll know what i'm talking about.

^^ thereīs quite some material around, considering for how short the band existed. People not getting any further than Santeria and What I Got is not because itīs the only stuff theyīve done...

Regular albums:
40 Oz. to Freedom
Robbinīthe Hood
Sublime
all of them are great, but Iīd get the 3rd one, then the 1st one and then the 2nd one to get started

(Official) Posthumous Albums:
Second-Hand Smoke
Stand by Your Van (Live)
Bradley Nowell & Friends (Acoustic Album)
the only one Iīd really blow money on is the live album, the others are worth downloading though

Other stuff that Iīve got, bootlegs and shit:
[Untitled] (Acoustic Album)
Live at the Firecracker Lounge, Anaheim ī95 (Bradley Nowell solo concert)
Living in a Boring Nation (a 5-track mini, only one of the songs is not on the regular albums, great track though)
Sinsemillia (Bootleg)
War on the Boulevard (strange, but interesting bootleg with a bunch of punk covers and other stuff)
Look at all the Love We Found (Tribute album with artists like No Doubt, the Ziggens, Pennywise, Ozomatli etc.)

Other stuff I know of:
Hong Kong Fooey (some bootleg)
Jah Wonīt Pay the Bills (their OG demo tape. I want this shit, but I donīt find it)
Many, many concert bootlegs

anybody know about anything else?

Sublime = the shiznit.  "April 29, 1992" is one of my favorite songs of all time.  A ska punk group with hip-hop influences; that was almost unheard of in the early-90s'.

40 Oz. To Freedom was their best album in my opinion

i couldn't really get into Robbin The Hood because there was too much 1 minute songs and skits on it

their self titled album was amazing too

all the other ones ive heard are the stand by your van live album, the bradley nowell and friends, and second hand smoke and they aren't worth buying unless youre a big fan.

Santeria brings back memories, never heard anything else from these guys besides that one and the song wit snoop dogg. Who passed?, the lead singer?, if so thats too bad, very sad when people take there own lives, straight up  :-\

Suicide is a bitch though. You never know if you want to feel bad for people that have done it or not. These guys would be icons if the lead singer was still alive.

yeah, the long beach dub all stars
They have had two albums, they both were alright, pretty good albums imo, but nothing compared to sublime's stuff, dude's songwriting was on another level, too bad he died

Sublime's alright...they had a dope style....the thing i dont like about them is that the majority of their shit is the same subject matter over and over again....i can't sit down and listen to them for more than an hour or two and not very often....it is a shame that bradley nowell died...he had a great voice and a lot of talent...

my favorite tracks by them are:

same in the end
april 29th, 1992
what i got
what i got reprise
santeria
smoke two joints
date rape
carress me down
wrong way
doin time (aka summertime)

some of that live and acoustic shit is cool too

Bradley Nowell did NOT committ suicide. He ODīd on heroin...

and the Long Beach Dub Allstars include the two remaining Sublime members, yes, but along with a whole bunch of others. The album "Right Back" is worth checking out, although itīs nothing like Sublime IMO

Good shit, I'll have to check some of the stuff yall mentioned. I was first exposed to sublime when my friend was playing their CD during a Vegas run and I was feeling it. You can hear the hip hop influence in their music.
