Interesting.. Indie record labels screw up BIG time budgeting promotion money. This was a very nice production. Nice editing, good photography, cute little story line, and cute broads. I know it cost them alittle cheese to put it together. Now this would have helped his album sales if they'd promotioned it right and dropped the right singles within a reasonable time from one another. It's almost a waist to wait XYZ amount of months AFTER his album has dropped to put out a decent video.. One that is good enough quality to be rotated on MTV and 106 and Park. Wonder if their contract makes them produce so many videos per album.. I'm sure it's negotiated. Nice Video. Timing Sucks though.. His album sales were dissapointing.
O well.. I'm pretty positive Warren just like the "star" attention he got from being the "artist" on the set. So good for him.

It's beyond me why fans would care about the sales and shit so much that they can't even enjoy a good video for what it is! Be happy we got a dope video to a dope song! :)
-
Dope Video. It's Got An Old School Look. It Really Fits The Song Well. Props.

Because the whole point of a video is to promote the album.

nice lil video

i cant see it where is it

Do you make money if they promote his album well? What difference does it make to you? Whether it sells 1 million or 10 copies, it's still the same music on the CD, and the fans should be able to enjoy it regardless how many copies it sells...
-
Nima, mdogg is addressing exactly that issue in the junkyard part 2 this week as you suggested! Its a good read!

Now Nima, as a moderator to this site you of all people should appreciate truth in comments made in here. Sounds like you're taking people's views on the promotion of the album alittle too personal. What's it to you? Granted you're in the "loop" with G-Dub and everyone and since this is the case ( I've heard folks mention you a few times), then you should know for artists like Warren record sales are his SOLE survival! Therefore it affects the fans regardless if it's putting money in our pockets or not. Warren isn't the same when he's not a shinning star and what makes a star shine? For him it's not just him being happy with his music it's his career being where he believes it should be. The green eyed monster (jeleaousy) runs deep within the inner circles and if you know the business you know that.
So don't take the comments so personally. Fans are in here checkin it out for a reason. Folks said they liked the video but the truth of the matter is is how is Warrren to make money if the label isn't doing their job right and waisting time and money. Album hype is only good for so long. And we all know what happens when an artist gets frustrated with his sales.... WE START GETTING SOME BULLSHIT ASS MUSIC.
It is a VERY nice video. Keep it gangsta Nima, I hear ya.
-
No I totally feel what you're saying, since I was involved in the promotion for Warren's latest album I know what's going on there, I'm just speaking on the people talking down on the video because Warren didn't sell much.
I know that for Warren it is very important to get promotion, but the regular fan should be happy to get a video and SUPPORT it, and not say "Oh it's too late anyway he's not gonna sell shit". This forum isn't even that bad regarding this subject but if you go on alot of other forums, people praise whatever sells alot, and if you don't sell alot, your stuff is wack.
That's blasphemy to me, because alot of the albums that we hail as all time classics didn't even go gold in their time, but they're still classics. Sales shouldn't be the MAIN factor for the fans, but the music itself. And this song is DOPE, the video is nice too, SUPPORT IT!
Go pick up the album if you haven't done so yet. It doesn't matter if he doesn't get a plaque for it, each sale counts. Independent artists such as Warren need the support. A major label artist is getting his cut regardless, it's the independent artist that actually DEPEND on each listener.
I wasn't talking down on anything, I was actually motivating people to look past the promotion and support what's good.
-
he shot a video for a song on an album thats been out for 3 months?
-
Nima I was just stating a fact. A video is used to promote an album so when it dosen't do that, it is worth pointing out. I didn't even comment on wether I like the video or not. I'm not even gonna front it was pretty nice, but I liked his first video (Get You Down) better.
-
It's all good!
-
It's beyond me why fans would care about the sales and shit so much that they can't even enjoy a good video for what it is! Be happy we got a dope video to a dope song! :)
I care about sales for one reason only:
I want the artists I like to do good. That's it.
Can't access the video though, says something about the profile going through "special maintenance".
-
People are acting like he has never had a video for this album already. It takes time for Indpendent albums to catch on, they do have more shelf life than your typical Major label album. Warren G can wait 4 months and drop a video, if it catches on, it's great for him. He could've still been pushing the album with "Get U Down." Look at a group like Crime Mob... They had "Knuck If You Buck" out MONTHS ago. They were quiet for a while and then about a month ago, they drop a new video for a song off the same album that's been out for 8 months or more. It's smart business actually. Re-Iterating to the audience that you DO have an album out.
-
NOTE TO ALL
At present we cant get the video to host for yall as in a *sarcasm* smart business move *sarcasm* they have given myspace exclusivity for now...as soon as i can we will host it for ya's!
-
That'd be cool Rud.
But since you're "in the loop" with these people, let 'em know that next time they're doing promotion Myspace isn't the way to go. Maybe DubCNN instead. ;)

This is some serious bullshit. Can someone rip the video so I can see it too? >:(

Warren G's new single, "I Need a Light" featuring Nate Dogg, is on MySpace.com. He's planning to release the video next week. " 'I Need a Light' is a song to listen to if you are stressing over something," Warren G said. "The hook makes you feel good. In the lyrics I'm talking about growing up in Long Beach and some of the things I went through." The 1940s-style video opens with a look at Long Beach, California, during Warren's childhood, focusing on a young Warren, Snoop Dogg and Nate. "The tone of the video shows the classic side of Warren," director Paul Hunter said, "how he built his empire from the streets and expanded it to the world. He is showing everyone that it's all about class and treating people right. It's about the classy style of hip-hop." ...
