well ..this question mite sound dumb.. but it had me confused
u see... snoop dogg was called snoop dogg coz his mom thought he looked like snoopy when he was a kid.. but i dont get it y DPG ..call em selves DOGG POUND GANGSTAZ ? ?

his mother used to call him snoopy...cos u see when snoop first started out in 2-1-3 he was called snoop ski or some shit....and when he first went to sign a deal wit death row he went by the name 'snoopa doopa,' in tha studio they called him snoop Loc...he hasn't always had the names snoop doggy dogg / snoop dogg...but aint dogg just another way of puttin 'dawg' as in 'yeah that's my dawg' meaning it's ur homie...

I saw an interview on "welcome to death row DVD" were snoop told us that when he wasn't yet famous, he had a lil appartment somewhere in LA. He mentioned all the names of the people how stayed there with him DOC,KURUPT,DAZ & about 4 other people in just one lil room ;D quote "We used to call that place *ThA DoGG PoUnD* ".
I think that u can figure out why they added "Gangstaz" ;D sounds waaaay better ;)

I think names which have a meaning or are the person's real name but in some sort of diffferent form are better than name just made up out of the blue.
