Post by: coola on February 06, 2006, 12:11:52 PM
surprised how many bangers it had on it.. not all were good, but most were fly... and 'make me happy' is meant to be on Marlon's album no ?

i think this advance will be completely different from the one released... that Marlon song wasnt made for the album also that song that Free's manager said to look out for in the wcrydaz interview isnt even listed...

wasnt really feelin most of the album...  i hope J Steez and Big Saccs come with some bangin beats on the retail version... album will be copped regardless tho

peace

Yea it's soundin alright...definitely not as good as the first two, but we all know that this won't be the real one that drops. That beat on the Snoop song is fiiiiiiiiiiiiire though. LMAO at Snoop "sellin everything from pussy to George Foreman Barbeque Grills"

i believe it can be as good as street gospel if quik mixes it!
i was listening to street gospel the other day and realized only a very few beats were special, but the mixing was awesome - every single song sounded dope, but to me the structure behind it wasnt that great - suprisingly for a dj quik production

and free and quik reunited, so there might be the chance quik will be mixing it - and i hope so - then the album is gonna be dope

that snoop suga free collabo was fire, but still, the version i was listening to wasnt what it could be

Personally, bein a producer, I think that mixing can be overrated. Mixing can turn a C+ product to a B product, but not a C+ to an A product. The main prob with this advance to me is that Suga Free just didn't sound as motivated, and many of the songs just didn't have what they needed to push them to that A level..whether it was the hook, guest appearance, or just the overall energy to the song.

I think Quik's beats were on point on Street Gospel...there were 5-6 tracks that were complete fire, and Suga Free was memorable on nearly every single track. I definitely don't see this album bein anywhere near Street Gospel unless they did 5 new songs, and at least two would have to compete with "Y u bullshittin" "I'd rather give you my bitch" "Doe doe n a skunk" and "If you stay ready", because those type of songs can't be made from mixing or anything else technical.

The first time I listened to it, it was alright. But now 13 out of the 14 tracks are bangin. Person 2 person, Do ya Know, and Oh no are hella tight. Best album I've heard in years.

hmm, actually i was concentrating on the production, if i doesnt feel the instrumental i rarely listen to the lyrics... i only give real attention to the lyrics if i like the music... so thats very important for me
and i really enjoy the production on that advance, i can _see_ those 5-6fire tracks on it too, but something bothers me - things have to be improved before i can really find them there... and i figured out the mixing should be better, and yes, suga free probably could do better too... but i wasnt focusing on that

your mixing theory: im producing too, and when i listen to rap, im kinda analyzing it, and lately i've been hearing a lotta tracks where i've thought "hmmm, this beat isnt that special, but DAMN, it's mixed so dope" - so the structure is pretty easy, easy drum pattern, etc... but still i enjoy listening to it, and its not because of the lyrics (in 1st place)

so i dont share your opinion about mixing, but i think youre expecting that producers already mix their beats to a B or something,
but to me sometimes that isnt given, so if someone experienced as quik mixes a track it might come out way better than it would have been actually

Pushed back for Quik or the album ain't going to change?

I know that J Steez did 3 tracks but only 1 is on the Advance.

this album doesn't really seem like anything special to me like his other two did.  at this point it just sounds like generic west coast shit, not that there's really anything wrong with that, but i expect more from Suga Free.

yeah i agree it does sound kind of generic.. theres nothing that jumps out.. but also nothing that makes u go 'hmm wackness' either.. it needs a few bangers...

for example.. i listened to it all day today looped and couldnt really notice whereabouts i was in the album.. i'd notice snoop and think.. hey thats snoop.. wasnt he on just now? and that song with gangsta in the title.. i dont know if i dont like it.. or what...

The tracks with kokane, Knoc are both bangers. I don't see how this sounds like anyone else, he has the most unique style of any westcoast artist. production is high on this too.

thats such a tru statement, just bumped it for 2 hours and i honestly did exactly that, i didnt realise what track i was on, all faded into each other...few standout but nothing that attracted the ears time after time...will give it more chances though...
