So I was wondering, what is your favorite (or couple of favorites) insturments that are used in Hip Hop...Me myself, i like:
The Piano one of the most Underated insturments in hip hop, just basically my favorite
The Violin Brings out the west coast sound and is also very underated
The Fulte (or any kind of high whistles) good for funky synthed out songs
Guitar I dont like when guitars are overused, but they are cool most of the time if used right
Fart Bass my favorite bass, its some of that funky gangsta bass Daz or Battlecat use a lot
What i dont like:
Horns (or any kind of Trumpet type insturment) I mean, they can be cool at times like when Dr Dre or Mel Man uses them, but mostly they have a South sound to them which i dont like
Artoficial Keyboard Sounds Again, they can be cool when people like Fredwreck or Soopafly use them, but people like The Neptunes just overuse it and fuck it up
(there are more insturments which i dont like, but theres not too many, cuz all insturments can be cool if used correctly...)
So I'd like to see some of yall lists of favorite (or non-favorite) insturments used in Hip Hop today...

The flute is my favorite.
Also, a bumping bass-line is a must.

i like live instruments
I enjoy the song more when it's made with live instruments. Then I know they acually put time into it, instead of just fuckin around on the keyboard.

Real, live instruments are always a plus. This is a big reason why E.1999 Eternal's production was so ill......
But I like crazy tripped out shit, like RZA's violin "riff" at the end of Reunited. Thats one of the illest beats ever. "Knowledge God" is another one of my fav violin beats, along with "Killah Hills 10304". Nobody can use a violin like RZA can.
Synthesizers are great too. One listen to The Chronic proves this. Deez Nuts, Dre Day, and Nuthin But A G Thing are beautiful examples.
The piano is essential, and Primo is pretty good with these. "Royalty", "Above The Clouds", "What Im Here For", and "NY State Of Mind" are prime examples.
The flute is very underrated ive noticed. Some of my fav flute cuts are Lil Ghetto Boy, "Eternal" [from Bone], and Flute Loop [Beastie Boys].

i like using pianos and flutes when producing my beats.. strings aint that underrated, they're used all the time... live drums is only ment for rock if you ask me...
what i really like is to combine a really dope piano with a fender or a fimgered bass

Tha Microphone !

I like violins, I think they make any song so much better. Just look at songs like: Black Rain, Resurrection (Paper, Paper) Bizzy's first song on The Gift and there are so many more.
-
dont forget the turntables and the Vocoder aka talkbox
-
I like the trumpet shit... or whatever that damn instrument is.
-Big BpG

Intresting answers...who likes the Xylaphone?
-
Moog aka Bass Keyboard: Fredwreck uses it a lot, so does Battlecat. Dre recently used it on "Looking At You." That deep sounding jello like beat in the song.
Bass: Authentic bass, the kinds Mike Elizondo plays for Dre
Acoustic Guitar definelty, for rock songs, not really for rap.
Flutes: The heavy sounding ones like on the Intro to Boston Public, LoL.
OH! And definetly violins like in "Best Of Things" and "Family Affair."

i love the bass in songs. it can change tha flow of the song big time. i also like snares. like tha ones that dre used, clear, crisp and loud.
