To me, it depends what you are aimin to do and what kinda car you have. Personally, I feel that you shouldn't have anything major if you got a small (or even weak) car, just because it looks tacky. It also depends if you want it to sound great on the outside as well as inside, or if you are only concerned about havin it sound good inside. I have a 1800 watt Power acoustic 10 inch with 600 RMS, and a 980 watt amp that I think is power acoustics too. It sounds very good inside, but outside, you can only hear it if there is no other noise around. It definitely doesn't vibrate anybody else's cars, and when drivin by females n shit, they can hear it a bit but not if it's a lotta cars drivin by or just a lotta noise goin on. I wish the highs and mids could be a bit louder, along with the bass, mainly so it can be heard on the outside. That comes in handy when drivin around (especially around my college campus and on road trips) because females look and start dancin along or singin along, and when you are just in the parkin lot with ya homeboys for whatever reason and u wanna play some songs for em.
So yeah...it just depends what you are tryin to do. Watts and namebrands are VERY important, and with subs, remember that the RMS is definitely more important than the maximum wattage, which is what they always promote the most with subwoofers. Some subs may say 600 Watts max, but if the RMS is only 150 or 200 and your amp is pushin 600-800 watts, you will not get full power and will most likely blow your speaker out quick.

my car is all rockford fosgate power series all the way through, except for the back speakers which are eclipse point sources. components in the front , point sources in the back and 2 10's in the trunk.
