The Don Mega Ice Cube recently announced that he has put his mind fully back into his music at last, and that all future movie projects will have to wait until his album is released. Going back to the independent route, Cube is set to release his highly anticipated solo album "Laugh Now, Cry Later" through Lench Mob Records on June 6th 2006.
With 4 more months to wait until the album is released, Ice Cube is already heating up the streets with his first single, "Why We Thugs", which was produced by Scott Storch.
As always, the good folks here at dubcnn got the honour to let you check it out. This is the third Scott Storch produced single we premiere this week, which shows how high in demand Scott is currently. Watch how Cube proves that those who wrote him off were fools, and that he still is a force to be wreckoned with, 20 years into the game.
Listen to "Why We Thugs" below:

-
this is tight, Storch finally made a another decent beat, hes had a bad stretch.
-
dam first child support which was bangin and now this one which is even tighter.
Props
Can't wait for this Ice Cube album.
-
damm nice, this album is going to be crazy, and i think its going to do major numbers. anyone know what is the independent album that sold the most??
-
Really feelin this one. And like lots of other cats, Storch has been boring the fuck outta me lately, but he dropped a good beat. It def had its vintage west coast feels on the hook. Pretty simple beat, club elements.
Cube came off really good though. I'm loving the subject matter he's been droppin lately - not the same old formulaic bullshit we're hearing, especially for a lead single. I kinda got lost on Cube a little bit, and my anticipation wasn't really high after hearing the list of producers he had lined up for this album. But so far, he's come off very nice so far over Storch, Neptunes, and Lil Jon.
Great hookup DUBCNN 8)

Yeah, I'm definitely feeling this song as well. Honestly, I'm steadily gaining a lot of faith in Cube - every song from the album I've heard so far (except MAYBE "A Lotta That") was pretty dope, so at least he's not half-assing shit like he was in his "War & Peace" days. The Storch beat is aiight, but Cube is really the one who brings the joint to life.
-
when i heard chrome & paint, i didnt really like it, but its grown on me i guess. then child support brought my views of the new cube up a lot. and now this shit, shiiiit. crazy. this is dope. cant wait for the album to drop, and it better not get pushed back lol.
-
bad azz track... album iz gonna b fuckn hot!!!!!!
-
Laugh Now, Cry Later should be a nice solid album. I'm feeling this collab with Storch and the other records (A Lotta That is so-so though). Storch has dropped a couple of nice beats lately, I can't wait to hear this one in better quality.
-
DOPE!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8)
-
Dope!
-
out of all of them joint with WC is the only one that i haven't felt... like someone else said, the beats have been OK but cube really brings the tracks to life.
-
It's a coo track, has a dark club feel to it but he's speakin real shit on there, which is what we need 2 hear from Cube.
-
that shit is Banging!!!
-
Pretty tite track
-
i expected better or at least a little bit more uptempo. Scott Storch is ripping Cube, Daz & all these westcoast artist by giving them shitty beats & they dumb for taking it. this shit aint worth the 200 g price tag scott charges.
-
Storch taking it back 7 years to 1999 Dre style, producers are still livin' off that sound...
-
im feelin this song.. only complaint is the beats repetative
-
Damn this track is crazy!Storch finally put out a more creative beat. Its nice to see that this actually has subject matter, despite being the 1st single.
-
Props for the track, i'ma checc it out soon...

This track is real dope. Storch came correct on the beat, one of his better efforts in recent times, and Cube rips it. Say what you want about Scott Storch, but he understands West Coast production and elements, to the point where he can deliver a strong cut like this, or WC's "The Streets", Knoc's "The Way I Am"...shit's tight.
-
Im gonna listen to this a bit later, but fingers crossed (westcoast style) that this is dope.
Cube's slowly but surely gettin in to his hip hop vibe.
''make it ruff...''
-
very very very dope but its not on level wit ghetto bird or friday
-
Ice Cube sounds hungry again. He wants to be known as the GOAT. This is the Ice Cube I've been wanting to hear for a long time. That track he did with Killer Mike is good as well.
-
Beat is wack sounds like tha same bullshit clubbeats he has done 10000 times already....feelin Cube dough.
Peace

a decent beat ? LOL the beat is a replica of a beat dre made for bad boys 2... scott storch is wak, but cube made this track dope...
not sayin i wont bump this track, but the beat isn't special, it's simple as fuck, and completely unoriginal.
-
could someone hook up the other 2 cube tracks everyone is talkin about ?
this year we got detox, big bang, nigger, doctors advocate and now laugh now cry later.... should be a good year 8)
-
I'm mixed. I think this is the best I've heard Cube in a long time, so that's a positive. But this beat bores the hell outta me, seriously. You guys think this is a good beat?

does any1 have the acapella of this track??

that shit is Banging!!!

Cube still got it

I feel what yall are sayin about the beat. It is the epitome of a Storch beat as of late. It def has a club feel, NOTHING MINDBLOWING. Its obvious with the choice of producers Cube is using that he will go for the mainstream market. And 9 times out of 10 i'm not gonna like that.
But look at what Cube himself has contributed to these tracks: Chrome and Paint wasn't the typical sounding Neptunes beat, and he put WC on there. Then there is Child Support, which has Cube reflecting on all of these young cats comin in the game and disgracing hip-hop. Great subject matter that hopefully sparks some people to realize how much bullshit is really going on.
Then, we get (which is my favorite) Bad Day, Worst Day ft. Killer Mike (not sure who produced). This is Cube being the Cube that made me a huge fan of his. Again, great subject matter, matched with a dope ass beat. And Killer Mike ain't just thrown on cuz he's a newer cat, and Cube is trying to hit that fan base. Its cuz KM and Cube fit together very well, and KM def held his own. (his flow couldn't touch Cube's on this one though).
What we're seeing from Cube is that he is getting mainstream production, but he's not cutting off his nuts trying to be something he's not. Believe me, when i first heard the listing of production, i really had no initial intent to pick this up. But Cube jumped on these beats, and wasn't lazy. He could have just went through the motions, put out the record, and probably went gold or plat off the production alone (See Snoop, 50 cent, etc.).
And one last thought: There aren't many (if any) occasions that i purposely listen to a Storch beat these days. Cube is THE reason that i'm bumpin this joint, and is prolly the reason that i'm giving the beat a chance. That says to me that Cube is hungry.
-
Man, I'm feeling this song! The beat is indeed a regular club type-of-beat, but it's definitely got a West Coast vibe to it (keyboards, sound effects). It's far from a spectacular tight song, but still...the shit bumps! Plus Cube drops some good lyrics...
If Cube sounds as good on the rest of the album as on this song, I'll buy it. No doubt.

Surprisingly plain. Thought Cube would be a little more explosive in his latest effort. Has ne1 really confirmed that Chrome and Paint is the Neptunes?

Listen to the drum pattern. It wreaks of Pharrell.
