I grew up on that dude when I watched the Andy Griffith Show and Three's Company.

Damn, RIP.
I actually thought he was older than that. He was gully in Three's Company. Was there a specific cause of death, or just old age?

He's a real funny dude with some classic characters.

This guy without a doubt was one of the most entertaining comedians to ever walk the earth. The things that stick out in my mind about him are that one, I remember reading an interview with him a few years back, and he mentioned that it was always important to him that he made shows and just did things that children could watch. So he turned down a lot of things over the years that would have made him money, but he thought weren't wholesome or whatever.
Second, I remember all the great moments on the Andy Griffith show where he showed his true color as a great actor. The greatest scenes were when he dropped the comedy or the aloofness of Barney's character and turned him into a real human being, for instance there's a great episode where Barney tells a reporter how Andy doesn't run the town right... then later on, when Andy's about to lose his job, Barney gives this great speech about what a great friend Andy is... and it's just one of the best t.v. moments of all time. He owned that character and made it such a human, realistic portrayal that it's truly must-see t.v.
Third, I of course remember all the laughter. He was just so friekin' funny. You have physical comedians, and you have comedians who say funny things, Don Knotts was both. Not only would he be caught up in a funny situation, but the look on his face was priceless and always so dead on funny that you couldn't help but laugh. One of the funniest was that episode where he was trying to help Opie with his homework, and got stuck on reciting the Gettysburg Address. He stumbled through it for 5 minutes, and after Andy had spoon fed him every word of the speech, Barney smiled proudly and said "See, I told you. It's allll up here.".
I've seen every episode of the Andy Griffith show, and I still watch it several times a week. The world's a better place having known this funny guy and the characters he portrayed.

|I remember all of his episodes on the Scooby Doo movie show, I think he was on there the most along with the Harlem Globe TRotters and Phyllis Diller.

Yeah I woulda thought he was 50+ on Andy Griffith. My mom used to always watch that show, that's why I used to watch it.
