Title: Sacramento Kings might relocate and become the Anaheim Kings...
Post by: Now_Im_Not_Banned on February 28, 2006, 01:09:56 PM
Kings of California?

Having their bid for a new arena rejected more than once by Sacramento voters, Kings owners Gavin and Joe Maloof have quietly let it be known that they'd like to relocate to Anaheim.

In Orange County, the Maloofs would be closer to their operations in Las Vegas. They already have plans to use an Anaheim location to drive their marketing for their hotel and casino, The Palms. That includes giving high-rollers use of luxury suites for Kings games and also having plenty of signage in the arena for their Vegas enterprises.

The Maloofs can easily afford the franchise transfer fee, which experts say will be at least double the $30 million the Hornets paid the league to flee Charlotte for New Orleans. But the Maloofs will face strong opposition from the Lakers and Clippers, who will fight a third team entering what they consider their backyard.

But there's an even greater roadblock. The owner of the Pond and the NHL's Ducks, Henry Samueli, has told David Stern that he wants to own a team and put it in his arena. A huge pro basketball fan, Samueli's net worth is $1.1 billion. But he'll have to wait. Stern has no plans to expand beyond 30 teams, which he said he thinks is a "fine" number.

LOL...Two more home games for the Lakers if that happens. Imagine what a slap to the face it'd be to the King fans. I mean, they hate us so damn much, now they might have to become us...Either way, I don't like the idea. If they Kings are gunna move, the LA area is already crowded...Take it to Vegas or San Diego...PeACe

I'm sure Jerry Buss and Donald Sterling will do everything they can to prevent this. If this is true sucks for the bay. All they'll have is the warriors. :P

I would prefer the Kings move to the Bay.The Golden State Warriors are not doing too well, and it would be better to have a franchise there that knows how to build a winner.

The Pond should be occupied by the Hornets, who would do well in So Cal. :)

The L.A Area, along with N.Y are the only two cities that can afford having more than 2 teams in their area.  That's how big the market is.  From the Owners' point of view, it makes much more sense to relocate in Southern California (even if there are two basketball teams already there) than it is to relocate to Vegas.

I don't live far from the Anaheim Pond but I'll be damned if the Queens move there. I'll torch the place first.

The good thing is the odds of that happening are slim and none.

I've always wondered why the Clippers don't move to the Pond, I would think they'd get more support from an Orange County fanbase, but then again, I'm not a businessman, I guess Sterling has his reasons for keeping them in LA.

Los Angeles Clippers of Anaheim. It would be great. I think that the Clippers should have move there too. I know that at the time Disney and Anaheim wanted to make some kind of sports world, with a new football stadium, and the Duck, Angels and Clippers. They had 2 out of 4, and had the Clippers moved there, they were more than likely going to go forward. The Clippers are the reason football isn't in the LA area... FUCK THE CLIPPERS!!!!

it would be a shame to see this happen because Arco is one of the best arenas in the NBA IMHO, that place gets loud as a mothafucka!!!

WTF? the reason the NFL is not in LA is because All LA buisnessmen are too money hungry to agree with anything and when someone offers a proposition for land for a stadium, they disagree and vote it a no because they did not think of it and will not profit from it as much. what do the clippers have to do with football when they are a basketball team?

LMAO! That's worse than your idea of Grant Hill and Penny Hardaway on the same team...

yeah this would be a stupid idea. If youre gonna move em to Southern Kali, come to Dago! LA has 2 teams, its kind of silly to move another team into the same area. it would just hurt all the franchises involved really. Best move IMO is to stay in Sac anyways, they got good fans up there.

San Diego is a bad place to put a NBA franchise because they do not seem to really want it, or really show any drive to try and get a team. Vegas would be their best hope, im thinking that it might happen - The NBA All Star Game is going to be in Vegas Next Year, who knows if this is part of their plan to move a team over there and they are just holding off doing so.
