Well, today an injured Slava Medvednko was cut from the Los Angeles Lakers in favor of a Jim Jackson signing...As many of you know, Slava was one of the few OG's remaining from the 3peat era. Though he wasn't the greatest athlete, he will be missed by the Laker fans...I wish him the best of luck, hopefully he signs with a fastbreak team where he can average around 15 points (he's capable of it)...The signing of Medvedenko was one of the last moves by Jerry West before he resigned as the Lakers GM...Here is a video in honor of Slava and his time spent as a Laker...

On the brighter side, here's what our roster currently looks like...
PG Smush Parker...Sasha Vuvajic/Aaron McKie*i
SG Kobe Bryant...Jim Jackson/Devin Green/Von Wafer*
SF Lamar Odom...Devean George/Luke Walton
PF Brian Cook...Kwame Brown/Ronny Turiaf
C Chris Mihm...Andrew Bynum
Coach: Phil Jackson
*i=injured
*=Currently with the NBDL

He will be missed but it was the right move. He hasn't played much the last two years.

Definitely was...He's been injured and wasn't expected to play this season...Mitch can still sign him next season if he wants, though I don't know if he can still provide much for us... :-\
-
Nik, do you have info on Mckie Return ? Haven't heard about that 8). Propz to Slava for being a good role player for us. Wish him the best
-
^^He could be done for the season...Might even be the end of his career. :-\

Propz on the info, that sucks, would have brought some experience on the PG position, though Smush is doing a very good job (inspite of some mistakes) for his first real season. Sasha can hit the 3 but isn't solid on D and as playmaker yet
-
damn how long has mckie bein injured for? i forgot he was with the lakers lol been playin NBA 2k6 and i always wondered why aaron was a laker lol, good player 8)
-
LOL there's alot of Lakers i miss and Slava is not one of them
i miss...
The Laker teams from the mid 90's
Mark madsen
Robert Horry
Derek Fisher
Ron Harper
K.Rush (gm 6 vs t'wolves ;D)
and meny more that i can't remember right now

^^That's true. But when there is a player that has been there through your glory days it's a little sad to see him go, regard;ess of who it is. But is irrelevent now so it won't really affect the lakers now.
-
If Ronny Turiaf get's release tomorrow i'll miss him more then Slava.
Ronny Turiaf>>>>>Slava

Mid 90's? That's more like Eddie Jones, Nick Van Exel, Cedric Ceballos, etc...Regardless of whether Slava was a great player or not, he never shamed the organization or the Lakers, and played to his abilities...He was with us in the 3peat years as well. He was a decent scorer, he could come big when needed at times. I can respect that...Regardless of what you may say, he DID do shit...PeAcE

I miss those as well, but that doesn't take away from Slava's (seldom) contribution to our organization, and especially during the glory days...PeACe

Slava doesn't have a MOMENT..YOU KNOW WHAT IM SAYING?..LIKE
D.Fish ---0.4 second shot vs spurs and making 55 % on his 3's in the 2001 playoffs
K.Rush- gm 6 vs t'wolves (6 , 3 pointers)
mark madsen -- the dance in the parade ;D and speaking spanish in the parade 8)
i could go on & on with the other players ..i don't remember slava having a moment, that's all im saying 8)

Slava had moments...When Malone was out in '04, he came up BIG...Avereging 15-8 in one month as a starter. He had special moments vs. Shareef Abdur-Rahim when Shareef couldn't stop him and Slava was simply outplaying him, the coach had to bench Shareef, and Slava was known as the Shareef-Stopper in LA after that...He even had this one memorable dunk on Shareef in one game. He had that funny moment when it seemed as if he was getting the triangle down and a reporter asked him about how he's picking it up, Slava said something like "Basketball is like a circle. It's round." or something hilarious like that...That funny story in the times when he fainted because all he ate that day was a chocolate bar...Man, he had his times with this franchise, don't be so bitter...PeACe

im so hapy slava is gone i hated that guy so much iv been wanting him gone for awhile
-
Good ol Slava...I'm sad to see him go but happy to see him leave. Jim Jackson will help shore up our backcourt and hopefully take PT away from Luke and Sasha. He'll probably play Laron Profit's role. If he can give us that, we'll be cool.
-
The move is perfect, since Slava is injured and Jackson could help taking playing time away from Vujacic and Walton. But i'm a little bit disappointed because i wanted to see Slava coached by Phil Jackson again, since the last season he did Slava had a great season averaging 8ppg in a few minutes per game. Anyway, i'm happy to see Jim Jackson as a Laker.

Anyone watch the video I posted?

Word is that Slava is still practicing with the team (along with Profit) and is welcomed back (next season of course) when his back heals...Phil Jackson must really like him.

Profit, Slava, Rush.. i love the fact we're still in contact with those guys. And it's a shame Lue refused to sign a contract with us. I love those guys.
