thats like saying it's unsafe to wear seatbelts because a tree could fall off the back of a truck and through your windscreen and the seat belt stopped you from ducking under...

You know what pisses me off?  I'm going 70-75 on a 65MPH Freeway zone, and people are cutting me off in tight spaces.  That's fucking pathetic.  People need to see beyond the first few feet ahead of them, these idiots shouldnt even be driving

I would be pissed off, but it does bring up valuable points that could lead to something better than you going 75 in that usual 55 zone. It does show how pointless it can be to have a slow speed limit.

Personally, the only reason they have speed limits so low is because it's obvious and a known fact that people are gonna push that limit...but when people want to push it 20+ MPH, the fines are a lot higher, and that's obvious money for the police department. They showed a road in L.A. or OC where they raised the speed limit 5 MPH on some road, and for that year, the number of car accidents on that road was actually lower than it was the years before. That wasn't at all sayin that the higher speed limit made it safer, but it was sayin that the speed limit isn't there only to make it safer to drive, and because it's easier for them to trap you.

It's not set low because people will push the limit and endanger themselves, it's set low so the city/town has additional way to tax you.

Speed limits are a scam and a scourge.
