I can't STRESS ENOUGH how important it is for everyone in here to go out and buy the album this week. If he does not do over 100,000 in the 1st week, you can kiss all the majors scouting right now goodbye. This is our GREAT HOPE! GO OUT THERE AND BUY A COPY, EVEN IF URE NOT A FAN!!!!! That's how important this is, 40 is goin nuts right now promoting 24/7 this week. And don't buy it at a mom and pop store, they don't soundscan! Get it from a major such as Tower Records, Rasputins, FYI, Target etc etc. The cheapest right now is Best Buy for only $9.99!!!! This isn't a project like THE GAME's was....This is a pure West Coast come up which has the potential to open the doors and have the West Coast be back to where it was, we have to get back on our feet and this album has the power to do it, it's now or never !!!! BUY THE ALBUM !!!!! WE HAVE TO DO OVER 100,000 NO MATTER WHAT !!!!

This isn't a project like THE GAME's was....
What does that mean?
And don't buy it at a mom and pop store, they don't soundscan! Get it from a major such as Tower Records, Rasputins, FYI, Target etc etc.
I thought all stores selling CDs had to soundscan?

It means The GAME's project was a 50 CENT EP, that's what it means. It didn't count, it didn't help the West Coast one bit, all it did was help sign a couple of acts who are being put in an Artist Development stage and will prolly get dropped, why? Because the majors are starting to figure the only reason GAME did what he did was because of 50. This E40 album has an ORIGINAL WEST COAST movement it carries, it has the ability to do what YoungBloodz and all them cats did for the South, then everyone got signed one by one because the majors saw the potential in the appeal they had.
And most mom and pop stores do not Soundscan, by that I mean the underground CD stores around ure neighbourhood.

GO OUT THERE AND BUY A COPY, EVEN IF URE NOT A FAN!!!!!
shut up groupie, when 40 decides to drop dope music again maybe i'll think about buying it. but if hes gonna be on this "tell me when to go" crap, i have better things to do with my $9.99, like buy 2 large pizzas from little caesars.

i own all of 40 Water's album except "Breakin News" (which aint worth coppin) all of his albums are West Coast, but how is this a pure West Coast come up with Lil Jon being the biggest push behind this album, dont front he is the major selling point behind this album, because judging by the quality of the music on the album, 40's new musical style is :-\ its a new flavor that is quite weak...dont care for it at all and its very BAY but its also VERY SOUTH influenced and thats not West Coast at all i usually dont post on all these this aint West Coast, that aint West, and the people posting it, arent from the West themselves just because u from the Bay, dont make it more west for 40 to hook up with Lil Jon, than Game did with 50, Snoop with Neptunes...aint arguing bitchin, but im an E-40 supporter, but not this album, it aint good...im not into the bickering bro, its just the truth...WISH 40 THE FUCKIN BEST WITH THOSE FIRST WEEK #'s Though HE DEserves IT!!!!!
-
Is Lil Jon on the 1st single? Is 40 screaming BME click? No, he's screaming about the HYPHY movement which PURELY West Coast, the only reason it resembles the South is because of the UPTEMPO feel to it, that is all. Ain't no one throwing bows or getting crunk. You throw bows in the murder capital, you get shot up, simple and plain. Lil jon is helping the distribution of this album and giving it a push, that's why the bay love him so much because he shows the same love back. 50 CENT made THE GAME his puppy, how can you deny this? Non of his singles were "West Coast". There was NO movement for the West. It was all about re-enforcing G Unit's movement. THE GAME realized this but brought it up AFTER he was financially stable. I could go on for days man, don't try it. Just go out this week and support, 40's album is off the hook too.

true, Game's album doesn't have a westcoast sound AT ALL
without all the westcoast name dropping none of would realize he was from the west
-
I like E40 but I downloaded some of the hyphy music that r-tistic posted in the hookup spot and I'm not feeling it. If this is how his whole album is going to sound, I'm not spending my hard earned cash on it. I'll spend my cash on hip hop music that I feel, regardless of what region it came out of.

-
LOL At Game's album not being West Coast yet E-40's album is, even though he has lil jon production on it.
-
Well to me....the first half of this album, really the first 11 songs are all West Coast soundin...and then #17 and 20 that Bosko did are also more west coast than anything.
Lil Jon did 3 beats on here that sound NOTHIN like his typical style, and they sound Bay as hell, so it's not like he gave him all crunk beats. However, the other songs Lil Jon did are typical style, even though they are still dope.
-
LOL At Game's album not being West Coast yet E-40's album is, even though he has lil jon production on it.
WHAT? WHAT DOES LIL JON'S PRODUCTION HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING? YOU MISSED THE WHOLE POINT, IT WENT RIGHT PAST URE HEAD. GET OFF THE BOARD.
-
the albums horrible.....not one good track....... i definitely aint wastin my money on this shit........ bring back dat mob shit..... studio ton, mike mosley, sam bostic, k-lou n shit.. i'll stick with in a major way & game related over this piece of trash..........
-
I DONT WANT THE WEST COAST TO BE REPRESENT BY THIS FOOL .............

It's great how you get all emotional on the internet yet tell me to get off the board. Both albums are equally un-west coast. And I find it funny you say this is an original west coast movement when it's so obvious that it's hevily influenced by the south and crunk.
-
He's sold out at hella best buys. Niggas know i coped my shit real nice an early on my way to Club. Tree's in the traffic

Ain't no one emotional over nothing, I told you to get off the board because you're making bogus ass statements....and like I said in the other thread:
the bay started this movement all on our own and it involves OUR culture.. I don't see no similarity to the South but the uptempo beats. The South is rural for the most part, it's a whole different environment.... our smallest communities are still Urban, the cultures are much different.
Bottomline, It's like comparing a black gangsta to a mexican cholo just because they wear the similar dickies n chucks. All muthafucaz see is the outside, they have no idea how these 2 come from VERY DIFFERENT cultures!
-
sorry imma pass on the hyphy movement and that noise coming out of the bay area and spend my hard earened money on something else. I just dont see whats so good about the hyphy music and the bay area movement.
-
go snort some coke with rappin 4-tay you frisco faggot
-
the shit´s wickedy wack so i don´t see why anyone should waste their money on some sappy ass wannabe crunk music.

you clowns need to stop living in the past, and accept that this is the best push to come outta Cali in 8 years. Oh, that's right, you guys don't really want the West to blow
-
I'm gonna support it, the album grew on me.
-

wait you're saying this is bigger than Dre's 2001?
-
GET THE FUC OUT OF THIS BOARD....TELL ME WHEN TO GO YOU HOE!
GET OFF THE BOARD.
Sort your fucking attitude out. you don't decide WHAT people should buy or not.. or who CAN and CANT post on this forum.
keep it up and you'll find you're arrogant ass 'off the board'..
Personally i didnt like 40s album.. *carries on bumping the new PUTS*
Their albums far better than 40s IMO..
-
Not that it matters much to selling that 100.000, since I don't live in the States, but I'm really not feeling that whole hyphy shit.
And there's no denying that because of Game's album the West got some attention. G-Unit pet project or not, West Coast sound or not. "Compton is where I'm from", dude said. "To my niggaz gettin their hair braided, cornrow'd by L.A. bitch", dude said. Dude repped the West there. And this time people were listening.
I think it's all good if 40 & co manage to do it big with this hyphy thing, but it just ain't for me. Go dumb if you will, but I won't.
-
lol @ saving the westcoast with buying 1 album! e-40 would be proud
-
Rod I fucks with u and what ure tryin to do
im roundin up my toronto comrades to show 40 love
-
Man y'all too damm uptight, when I say get off the board I'm just clowning, it's not no arrogance. 90% of bay area CD Stores sold out yesterday, Tower Records in the West Bay sold out before 11am, so did every single Best Buy around the bay. The autograph signing was a fuckin chaos. Shit's looking good, but I don't know how it is in the rest of the nation. They were showing alot of love on 106 & Park, so that's good. It's not about being a fan of E40, you square butts is fans on the stands on a West Coast board and don't even understand what this means. You can't compare it to GaMe's situation. The actual album really grew on me too.. listen to the lyrics, nothing but game.
-
^ these cats dont understand...i feel what u sayin about this album being more important for the west than faggot ass Games
-
And why PM me about something stupid like that Overseer. If anyone actually gets off the board because I said so, then good for them, they need to go out there and get some balls.
-
And why PM me about something stupid like that Overseer. If anyone actually gets off the board because I said so, then good for them, they need to go out there and get some balls.
I said it in PM _and_ in public because it had to be said. you have an attitude problem.. you're acting no different than the game fans ya'll love to diss. running your mouth and dissing people left right and centre and acting like its your fucking choice what people do IS a problem.
It was a given this would sell in the bay.. if its sells elsewhere _then_ get excited.
Your attitude is actually making people NOT want to listen to this album.
-
Ain't no attitude problem, I am a FAN of GaMe, we watched him come up, was with dood when he was broke sleepin at the studio out here, I wish him success. I'm not going against him, I'm explaining why this project is more important for the West. And I'll tell YOU to get the fuck up outta the board if you called me a groupie too. I'm always on the defense. I didn't make this thread based on attitude. You're just playing daddy and exercising your power control.
-
I dunno if we looking too much into it or not, but shit's doing real good. Every Best Buy in Seattle sold out too apparently. Some cat was talking about how he went to 7 stores in New Hampshire out of all areas and they were all sold out. They sold 2,000 at the E40 signing, and there was thousands in the line that didn't even get in because it took like 5 hours and 40 had to bounce.
lol... Seattle:

Damn, those things are flying off the shelves out there huh? Didn't have a clue people were that into the album. Congrats to 40, I guess.
Still doesn't make me wanna get it though. :)
-
No one cares, ain't no one got a gun to your head, I read what you said the 1st time. Your from Finland anyway, so ure sale doesn't count towards the importance of this 1st week sales movement.
-
tight.. if it was 9.99 (well equivalent of here.. ) i'd get it in a snap.. cd's drop at 9.99 our money.. which is roughly 20 bucks .. see why we're more choosey? :)

"At music retail, this is not a week for the ages, kiddies. Warner Bros. rapper E-40, who presently appears to be the highest-charting debut on next week’s album chart, will probably wind up shy of 100k. That will still probably put it in the Top 5 considering that this is shaping up to be a truly dismal week. In that sense, a #1 bow, though not likely, isn’t out of the question."
DEBUTING AT #1 WILL MEAN MORE THAN 100,000 COPIES NO DOUBT! THERE'S NO OTHER MAJOR RELEASES THIS WEEK DEBUTING, IS THERE?

Juvienile's album came out this week at #1. He only sold about 170,000 but he can beat E-40 next week.

you clowns need to stop living in the past, and accept that this is the best push to come outta Cali in 8 years. Oh, that's right, you guys don't really want the West to blow
wait you're saying this is bigger than Dre's 2001?
That album had absolutley no impact as far as puttin Cali back in the position that it should have been in and should be today. It's not bigger than 2001 as far as the success that that individual record had, but its bigger in terms of what is being done for the west as a whole. I really dont see why so many folks is hatin this shit so tough. Mad cause it dont sound 15 years old from the gate or some shit. Name anything that ever had any type of lengevity without reinventing itself. The Bay is changing the sound of Cali rap so that we can be succesful again. Some of yall seriously need to get out of the past. The West Coast's 2nd coming is right damn now and the sound id not mobb shit or g funk anymore. This is the next evolution in rap right now, so if you say you love Cali rap you better love the shit outta what we got goin on right now.
-
i got it.. i dont really own any bay shit but i had to support it! im gunna keep it in the car though because it bumps! its 1 of those cds to drive around n bump. but it was all out at target and best buy so i had to go 2 Fred Meyers...
-

Sorry, but I'ma stick to loving the shit I like listening to.
Still, I hope 40 sells.

GO OUT THERE AND BUY A COPY, EVEN IF URE NOT A FAN!!!!! This isn't a project like THE GAME's was....This is a pure West Coast c
aint nobody gonna buy this shit just cuz some persian big nose mutahfucka like u says to u dumb fag.
E-40s album is the most non westcoast album you could possibly find along with anyting too short has made the past 3 yrs. i'll make sure i don't buy it.
E-40 can sell 2 million its first week and it will do absolutly nothing for the Westcoast because Crunk music is not a representaion of california.

making Dirty South music is not a representation of California. as long as the Bay Area keeps making Dirty South music it will always be hated on and will do nothing for the westcoast.
and smh @ u speaking down on 2001 as if the Bay Area has ever done anything thats on 2001's level. The worst song on 2001 >>>> The bay area the past 10 yrs.
-
This Persian ain't no southern Cali Persian, I'll break ure jaw for fun you fuckin internet character. Who you suppose to be faggot? The only beef you addicted to is a ding dong you sissy. You dunno nothin bout no West Coast Stan.
Sold Out in Dallas.... nice.
-

don't be getting ethnic in here and start talkin about persians. half my patnas are persian and afghan and they some of the craziest niggas i know. fuckin racist bastard i hope u get rapped by an aids infested monkey

Here is a comment on the 1st day sales and how they are shaping up for E-40 from hitsdailydouble.com. This site is pretty on point with sales numbers:
Warner Bros. rapper E-40, who presently appears to be the highest-charting debut on next week’s album chart, will probably wind up shy of 100k. That will still probably put it in the Top 5 considering that this is shaping up to be a truly dismal week.
-
Zilla does have some good points. The west does need a album to do big numbers to get more exposure. I think the bay is so diverse that ANY artist that blows up out of the bay helps everyone. Hyphy is like any other craze that is going on, it has its 15 min then it dies off. The music is what pushes the bay at the end of the day and them cats are HUSTLAS. indie or major. the bay will be just fine.
-
who gives a fuck if its similar to crunk music....as long as the west blows up....to me i think its better then crunk music....especially with all the bay slang involved in the hyphy music makes it feel westcoast.....if u dont feel it...then shut your retarded as up and move on fuckface....listen to some other shit...stay stuck in the 90s and quit complaining cause running your mouth aint gonna change no ones mind...especially the bay.....it just makes u a faggot crying for help...i support the whole westcoast...even them portland niggas and i dont give a shit if the music changes...its all west coast....and fuck this bay vs LA shit...its all one coast.....we should all support each other....stay connected
-
im going to support E-40 n fuck what people say. These same MF said that Warren G album was garbage but i liked it.I will let yall know my opinon after i listen to it.1
-
You know what I don't get ? When Game dropped, he blew up, When Snoop drops, he always sells, when Dre dropped, hegot the whole industry on hold, when Xzibit was with Dre, he sold big time but there was always some people saying that didnt sound West Coast enough and everything...
Couple of years later, E-40 is about to drop an album... with Lil Jon, I didnt hear it so I can't speak on it, all I know is that he's still repping the West on it but what's so different about what E is doing and what all the others did? If you say it doesnt matter that it's a new style of rap, you should say the same about Nate DOgg, Xzibit, Dr Dre, SNoop and ...Game. How many times did Game threw up the West? Snoop is still repping 213, Dre made the whole industry use his sound...
I have no problem supporting E-40 but I think it sounds weird that it's not acceptable for the others to have a 2006 sound but ok for him to try and sell the most albums he can.
I wish him the best but I had to say my opinion about this thread
-

I don't think anyone needs to worry about him not selling over 100k the first week. I was just in my Best Buy today and they said they only had 12 copies left to start the day and those were sold out by the time I got there this afternoon. Luckily the cashier had one stashed and hooked me up.
-
Here's my thoughts:
E-40 is a living legend no doubt. To see him put in work as long as he has, and get some national recognition is great. My Hyphy knowledge is very miniscule compared to lots of cats, but thanks to R-Tistic's Yaddadamix, I've had the chance to hear a wide array of songs. I think "Tell Me When To Go" was one of the most surprising songs i've heard in a while. 40 spit real nice. Granted, i was smoked out when i heard it, but hearin dude sayin "Dumb" in the hook really tripped me out. And no doubt Hyphy is like a second cousin of Crunk (face it, lil Jon has had a major hand in national exposure of both), but it does have some unique elements that typical crunk doesn't have.
I also think that its great that somebody from the west that isn't affiliated with Dre / Snoop has potential to blow up. I think the West as a whole has needed that more than anthing - artists themselves realizing they can blow up without Dre / Snoop.
Having said all of that, I probably won't be buying the album. I think Hyphy (like Crunk) is better taken in small doses. After I hear a few Hyphy songs in a row, I need a break. I don't think I have the patience / tolerance to sit through an entire album. Sadly, I don't see Hyphy being much more than a fad. And don't take that as a diss, i just call it how i see it.
-
Some of the posts on this thread on quite enjoyable to read... I think if you liked the album, you should buy it. (I try before I buy). Don't buy it just because it is something getting pushed from the west. I will not be buying the album, I didn't enjoy it that much. If an artist blows up, (be it from sales, or whatver) it should be truthfully, meaning the album was THAT good..
I did however love Just Fuckin', and maybe 3 other cuts. But it's gotta be more than half of an album that I like, AT LEAST, before I will shell out money for it..
-

I don't know about absolutley nothing. It would have an impact in the sense that more people would hear the album and decide to look more in to future west coast releases to see what we have to offer. I agree with you about the representation.....it certainly won't have the same effect as if hyphy aka crunk was a strictly cali based sound.
-
Well here's my OPINION. e-40's cd is off the chain. These songs remind me of "to tha beat", "uzis, choppers, gats", "dirty deeds" and many other songs he did. I think they r the shit. I'll admit, ballatician sucked, breakin news is ok, but this puts him back on my list. Also, HALF of the lil jon beats on here dont sound like lil jon beats. They sound like hyphy beats. Oh yeah and tone capone is on here. so is bosko. droop-e. and lets not forget rick rock. not west coast?...i don't think so. Pure west coast. Not g-funk...HYPHY!

Yea....I had NO IDEA Lil Jon did two of those beats...even though white girl is just Fly girl with more bass. Muscle cars sounds exactly like some Droop-E though

I didn't look at the production credits until after I listened to the album. As far as I knew before, 40 was just on BME, and probably had one or two beata... So you can't pull that on me.

This is one of those albums I love to bump when I'm making dinner :D
-
this album isn't good................at all
I'm all for puttin Cali back on the map but this could easily be mistaken for a dirty South album that has rapper from the west on the cover

understand that 40 has to go universal...don't yall get it? He wants to sell in other regions, not just cali. Example: Ice Cube, Amerikkka's Most Wanted, Produced by the bomb squad. It was a classic. SO what you all are telling me is that Amerikkka's Most Wanted was garbage because Dr.Dre or any other west coast producer didn't produce it? come on yall..........support the west...

Amerikkkaz Most Wanted didn't sound too far off from the westcoast. the same can not be said for E-40s album so therefore your opinion holds no merit.

I'll be picking this up but not for a couple months unfortunately. Gotta support 40 but gotta support myself first.
-
yea this thread needs to be stickied, promote e40, help him blow up, which will help bay blow up, which results in the whole westcoast shining!
-
This section already has 7 stickys. I think that's enough.
-
I called into the HMV on Robson in Vancouver and they said they only have a couple copies left. Best Buy on Cambie has none.

If you're refering to in the mid nite hour, there were a couple posts about it. But there wasn't any buzz created for the album and even less promo. he didn't even drop a single till after the album dropped.

the bay started this movement all on our own and it involves OUR culture...
^ that's where you're going back on what you said man
you just said it's "Purely West Coast" movement and then u say that?
if all this is supposed to be about the West shining and whatnot, then why do you keep getting into arguments about Cali shit like South vs. North and getting all personal and saying this and that is "ours" and that shit all over this board... you keep contradicting yourself
what I'm getting from this is, if you're gonna call it a West Coast movement, then this movement is dividing the "West". You got people who don't like it, tell how they feel, and then I've seen people immediately jump at them. Instead of pointing out where they are wrong in their opinion, they come to solutions like comparing rappers and styles and which side is better, the whole California war type words.
so it seems like ever since Addicted to Beef said that he thought this shit was wack in a thread a while ago (even though he was harsh and obviously offended those from the Bay) that seemed to spark the whole talk about what this album really was in terms of who came up with this sound and what it sounds like and who reps it, etc.... leading to of course having the classic "West Coast" sound brought into it and the back and forth words
so basically what I'm saying is, this West Coast Connection board has become nothing but these E-40 threads trying to prove the next man's opinion wrong. The talk of this sound blowing up and people from the Bay saying it could be the next G-Funk impact, it's almost like those individuals for some reason want this movement to blow up so they can throw it in the face of the "OLD" West Coast.... now I'm not talking about people as a whole here, just those who act this way..
and you know I'm right too cuz there has been lots of talk about these subjects in these threads lately
I have only heard a few tracks from the album, so obviously I'm not entitled to my opinion of it, I'm not hating on this shit whatsoever, I have nothing but support for it, I like E-40 he's one of my favorites, and I hope if for no one else the Bay gets lots of shine from this, I just had to tell how I see this shit on this board from my point of view just sitting back and observing....
and also know that you can't cram this shit down anyones throat... if they're gonna like it they're gonna like it, regardless... I don't think they're gonna like it just cuz Bigg Rod told em to go cop it

It's like this.... Without getting too much into it.... Let's say the West Coast = The Crips for example, Crips fight each other all the time, but once they get locked up, enemy or not, they will stick together.... Well that's how it kind of is with the North v.s South thing, If you really in the streets, you'd know there's tension, it was proved BIG TIME at the All-Star game last year. But when we're in a national view, we all stick together no matter what. I didn't make this happen, that's just HOW IT IS! And what happens between Cali folks stays on the field between the soldiers, it has nothing to do with outsiders. It's like if a few of your family members have tension between each other, they will battle it out and stay ignoring each other, but what happens at family re-unions and other functions? They keep it cool, they stick together. I'm trying to figure out a way to make you feel exactly what I'm talking about, but truth of the matter is when it was the G-Funk era, the bay wasn't really included but we still repped big for y'all because it's all West Coast. The G-Funk movement was an LA thing, y'all had ure own culture that went with it, PURELY WEST COAST! They Hyphy movement is a Bay thing, we have our own culture that goes with it, once again, PURELY WEST COAST! IT'S ALL WEST COAST! RIGHT?
-
^^ well I just hope that it IS like that, that's all....
there's no reason why there should be any tension music-wise
most of the insulting is from people who've never even travelled to these places they talk about
we all gotta support it, but regardless, people are gonna get it if they wanna or not
