same thing happen in oz... with the whole "bugger" thing... they made the ad's on purpose to spark controversy and increase exposure... australia = snitch ;D

Americans and their conservative lobby groups + networks with homogeneous "don't swear, show nudity/violence, or offend anybody in any way" policy = bad mix.
