2000 Russell Crowe - Gladiator
2001 Denzel Washington - Training Day
2002 Adrien Brody - The Pianist
2003 Sean Penn - Mystic River
2004 Jamie Foxx - Ray
2005 Philip Seymour Hoffman - Capote
I think Jamie Foxx had the best performance.

I'ma go with Russel Crowe. Dude is a faggot in real life, but I thought he was great in Gladiator.
After him I gotta go with Denzel and then Adrien Brody. I still think Jamie Foxx was overrated. I never saw Capote so I can't speak on it.

I've watched all the movies and I picked Jamie because when I wactched Ray, I actually believed I was watching Ray Charles on the screen. It reminded me of when I watched Malcolm X, after that movie every time I picture Malcolm in my mind, Denzel's face pops up.
Adrien Brody or Denzel Washington would be my next picks too.
I just finished watching Capote, which is what inspired me to make this thread. It was a good movie, Phillip Seymour Hoffman deserved the Oscar.

Denzel Washington. I thought Don Cheadle did an extremely good job on Hotel Rwanda

^Yeah for sure, Don Cheadle is one of my favourite actors.
I voted Adrien Brody, Russell Crowe is my 2nd pick

next up for me would be jamie foxx or brody or even denzel and then penn. penn's one of my fav actors but i think hes done better roles. havent seen capote so cant judge but ill catch hoffman in MI:3. i think hes in that.
Don Cheadle is one of the most underrated actors.

Strangely, I enjoyed Adrian Brody's peformance in "The Pianist" the best out of all of these listed. I think the list looks kind of sad, to tell you the truth. That's the best? I love all of those actors... but none of these performances cited here are really mindblowing. The reason I love these actors is that they are consistantly good. For instance I don't care what anybody says, Russell Crowe is a fine actor and every movie I've seen him in, I enjoyed. However; just because you're a great, consistant, entertaining actor doesn't mean that any 1 performance of yours is mindblowing.
Sean Penn's another good example. He was GREAT in Mystic River, but I don't know if I'd act like that was one of the best performances I've ever seen. It was like all of Sean Penn's performances, good, even great, but not anything that would make me go "WOW!" or anything. Still I would put Sean Penn near the top of any best actor list, but because of Consistancy, not because of any mind blowing single event worthy of a huge award. If I could give Sean Penn an award, I would give him an award for "I Am Sam" or "Sweet And Lowdown", or "Up at the Villa" way before Mystic River. All of these actors are like that. Phillip Seymour Hoffman has been a favorite of mine for 6 or 7 years, Sean Penn is great, Denzel is great, etc.
