Bowyer admits speeding at 99mph
Footballer Lee Bowyer was banned from driving for 42 days after pleading guilty to speeding at 99mph.
The 29-year-old Newcastle midfielder changed his plea on the eve of his trial at South East Northumberland Magistrates' Court, in Hexham.
He was also fined £650 and ordered to pay £100 costs.
He was accused of breaking the speed limit in his Porsche 911 on the A1 near Morpeth, in Northumberland, in July last year.
He had been accused of driving at an average of 112mph on a stretch of the 70mph road with his speed peaking at 132mph.
Bowyer was represented in court by Manchester-based lawyer Nick Freeman, who has represented a number of other celebrities accused of motoring offences.
Much negotiation
Mr Freeman told the court his client should be given credit for his plea because it was the first time the offence of driving at 99mph had been put to him.
He outlined previous speeding convictions that his client had received, including a 42-day ban for driving at 67mph in a 30mph zone.
Chair of the bench Margaret Kynoch-Macdonald said: "Because this is the second time you have been excessively speeding in the past three years, we ban you from driving for 42 days."
Accompanying his client as he left court, Mr Freeman said that following discussions with the prosecution, his client had admitted speeding at 99mph rather than the original charge at more than 100mph.
He said: "He was summoned for speeding, he was not summoned for speeding at 132mph.
"There was a great deal of negotiation with the Crown and my client pleaded guilty to speeding at 99mph.
"It was a plea the Crown accepted."

damn... thank god i havent gotten cought going 160mph.... *Knocks on wood* ... but yet again whats the cop going to do if i zoom by him at 160mph??
he will prob look like this ... ??? :o :eh: :yikes: and then be like ah fuck it... by the time he speeds up to that speed and i dont even know how fast their cars go ... and then cutting through traffic like we do on the bike.... we did go 140 a group of 8 of us on bikes... with a CHP (highway Patrol) on the shoulder he just looked at us and didnt do a damn thing...lol
if you wondering what i been going 160mph in i have a sports bike... 2005 Honda CBR 600 RR .... its not like i do it all the time ive only done it twice... but still fuckin dangerous... but its all for the thrill and how many people can say they have gone that fast on the road....
but thats a pretty big hit not driving for 42 days... gotta take it easier . . . but for him i mean just hire a driver for those 42 days ... some average joe then thats a huge problem...

LMAO...I drive 100 every day in my Altimeezy, sometimes I reach 120 when I'm not paying attention to the speedometer...Don't really feel the need to exceed that. I try to look out for cops as I'm driving...Passing one going over 100 wouldn't be too fun.
