Me. If I'm running low on music, and I want to expand my mind, listen to different shit. I'll go out and buy old rap albums like this week I copped Black Moon and ordered Ultramagnetic mc's... hip-hop from the 80's and early 90's.... Or shit that I may have missed in the mid-90's because I was so caught up in the Death Row, West Coast music.
I can't drive in my car and listen to anything but hip-hop generally. R@B albums usually only have a couple standout cuts, the rest are fillers
And rock music seems shallow, uninventive and unispiring, like it's stuck in a time warp.
I know I'm going to critisism for this, but holla back anyway. Peace.
-
last non hiphop album i got was OPM - Menace To Sobriety.
-
I aint got respect to nothing outside hip hop. Im a rap alcoholic. If a man buys alotta different music it's like drinkin a different alcoholic beverage every other night, that makes no sense. Hip hop is universal enough, theres no need to listen to some rock/punk/fusion/house bullshit at all. Hip hop already contains everything, just check any CD booklet for song samples.
-
I don't buy anything but Rap albums but I listen to that Old School shit especially Zapp almost everyday. I also listen to them OG songs like "18 With A Bullet" everyday.
-
i totally disagree with everything siberian said...kind of found it ignorent as well, peace.
-
i occasionally buy other shit... back in the day i copped boyz 2 men... more recently... third eye blind.. santana... sugar ray... marvin gaye... etc.
-
i totally disagree with everything siberian said...kind of found it ignorent as well, peace.
yup yup
-
I only really ever cop hip-hop/rap/RnB albums, simply because I know if I buy anything other than them genres they won't get much play, so.
-
I mainly buy Hip Hop but i also buy Jungle, Drum n Bass and Reggae.
-
i totally disagree with everything siberian said...kind of found it ignorent as well, peace.
I just try to stay true to my own taste... Like 704D said, if u buy some other shit it just wont get much play, so why should you... It's not "ignorence", it's just plain love for nothing but hip hop.
-
i got respect for any kind of music, i don't hate on it(expect 4 some mainstream/pop music as i feel this has fucked up the music industry as a whole)
but the only music i feel is hip hop, dunno why that is jus guess it is the way i am, i love it 4 the beats, deep lyrics and just love it as a whole. So i guess i'm just like u infinite59, so ur not the only one brother. peace.
P.S.I also think what Siberian_Wolf said was very stupid and ignorant.
I which i could appreciate other music but i only really like hip hop.
-
I only really buy rap album but I must admit I got backstreet boys chapter 1 for christmas and I aint ashamed of it. I have also got both spice girls albums but they where gifts when I was about 10

I buy a lot of Rock, mainly becuase it better represents who I am and what I think about. I don't like your average bands though, I'd rather hear someone with an interesting voice or something different in their music. Rock bands I like are the Stone Temple Pilots (They rock)... I used to like U2, until they changed their sound up on the last album, Pop was an awesome album ,though... I like Nirvana, of course... I like some of the Chili Pepper's stuff... these new bands like Staind, Anthaneum, Etc. I don't really like, I don't see much creativity there. The greatest rock band out right now is and will be for a long time OASIS... these guys kill it... good lyrics, fun songs, awesome music, and Liams' voice is unbelievably cool. There new album is out in a couple months, It's one of the only album's i'm hyped for right now. Another great band is Travis, and I like Coldplay. Mainly I like bands with interesting rhythms, melodies, and voices. Our Lady Peace is a great newer band... their lyrics are great.
I like a lot of old stuff, pretty much anything old I own the cd... I've got every beatles cd, every doors cd, every Jimi Hendrix cd, Cd's by the momma's and poppa's, Bob Dylan, The Doobie Brothers, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney (HUUUUGe Fan), John Lennon, George Harrison;.... Eric Clapton, James Taylor, The Jackson 5, Michael Jackson, David Bowie, Fleetwood Mac, Curtis Mayfield, The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, Smokey Robinson, Allman Brothers, Al Greene, Van Morrison, Aerosmith, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Steve Miller, Bread, Bob Marley, Carol King, Elvis Presley, Etta James, John Denver, The Moody Blues, Neil Diamond, Paul Simon, Sam Cooke, etc. etc. etc. etc.
I don't really listen to heavy metal, that crap is just chaotic. Metallica is about the only heavy band i'll listen to.
I listen to country, mainly because the girls I know listen to it, but I like a lot of it. When I was a kid I used to hate the 'twang' in their voices, but now I kind of like it because it's who they are, them doin their thing. I like George Strait, Vince Gill, Allison Krauss, Kenny Rogers, etc. etc. etc. I won't get into that too much, because I know none of yall like it anyways.
Rap, I really don't buy too much anymore, because it's so incredibly negative and vulgar that I feel bad listening to it, and I don't know anyone that can relate to most of what they're talking about. I can't play it in mixed company, so I usually only listen to it with my brother or this one o.g. friend I got.
-
I definatly feel that hip-hop has many advantages over other genres of music. It's more fulfilling imo, there's soooo many styles to choose from & it's always growing. I do enjoy other genres of music but I find that I get bored quickly cos' they seem to play out quick if you know what I mean. Like for instance, look at pop, there's not many albums that are labelled classic in that genre because pop is so fickle & dry that once it's been listened to repeatidly it gets boring and played out, whereas I can listen to hip-hop that i've had for almost 10 year & still fully enjoy it. There's no other music that has grasped my full attention for this long anyways, so it must be doing something right.
-
i only buy rap cds but i have alot of respect for other genres! i got alot of friends that listen to metal and i like some tracks. i really like metallica and i like a few tracks by staind..
but other than that its rap/hiphop/lil rnb

I'm pretty much the same way. I only buy Bay Area / LA West coast rare indie music, DPGC and Dre related music. I'll support Organized Noize productions also and alot of indie southern music. I can't listen to the music without the actual artwork. If I dig something, I'm on the hunt to buy it. Usually these moments are reserved for West coast, Bay, LA, or Southern indie rap. Aint got no time (or money) for that "Wooh Wooh / Eas'ty" bullshit. I'm all about the west and to a certain degree, the south.. Cuz they hustle music like niggaz on the West.
Like I got this new disk by Young Ridah called Whats Next. You guys may remember that Daz appears on this album, so I had to find it OG. The artwork is fat and the album is nice too. This is an example of the kinda shit I spend my money on. I love indie West coast shit from The Bay To LA down to the South. There’s enough here on our coast (and down dirty) to keep me satisfied!
Heres a link to purchase if you like. Pz.

just rap albums for me ;D
-
;D
I own 200+ rap albums. In fact just last week I bought like 9 cd's. I just can't get enough of it ;D
However I do own a few rock cd's(like 7). I like rock a little now(linkin park) its cool but I will always buy a rap cd over a rock cd
-
Fleetwood Mac
Good one. That is the only band outside of rap/hip-hop & soul that I listen to. It's strange, I know, but I grew up with this music and it has been implanted in my mind. I liked thier work from '75 to '82 the best. I don't go for any other type of rock music.
-
siberian you said that all other genres of music are bullshit, that's ignorence...if someone were to come in here and say that about hip-hop you'd probably drop a load in your diaper, peace.

I agree with you 100%. If you look at the whole picture. From 80's to present day. All the rap albums that are out there, all the different styles, and coasts, sounds, idea's, backgrounds, there is no reason to stray from hip-hop. There are so many great albums out there, I still have yet to cop. If you like Wu-Tang, there's almost 20 Wu-tang albums out there that could keep you busy for months. If you like Dre, from Wrecking crew to present day, there's enough albums with his production, to keep you busy for a year. And those are just two examples. I don't buy albums all at once, I make sure everything gets a long listen, and has a chance to grow on me. Before I cop another one.

Ha, I know that's right. That's why I hate it when people want hip-hop to be all exclusive, only westcoast rappers can work with westcoast rappers and screw them if they try to cross over or if they happen to like rock, or whatever. Ignorance....

I like it that way. When an artist from the West Coast works with an East Coast artist it usually don't come out that tight. Hip-Hop is all about where your from... You got the gang culture on the west, you got the consciousness and 5% influence of the East, the smelly subway with headphones and a backpack on sound of the East coast coast. Then you got the new millenium funk of the south, and then the minimalism of the dirty south shit, they strip the record of any flossin, and just bring that shit dirty. Hip-hop is all about regions. Fuck collaboratin.
-
I am a music fan. I can listen to almost anything as long as it's good music. I own mainly hip hop music because i feel it is the most versitile type of music out there. A lot of rock music is repeteative. It's always drum, bass, and a guitar; where as hip hop can use any instrument or sound imaginable and it'll sound tite.
-

You aint the one here to diss me, cause the number of your posts doesnt depict you actual life status. I used to support your album and hoped youre gonna blow up, but since you keep talkin bout my "ignorence"... fuck you and Im outta here

I don't mind other shit but i only listen to hip hop..I think Pink Floyd's the wall is dope...Thats bout it..I don't really feel rock music.I don't like ignorant people that don't even acknowledge other genres.

I think maybe i'm older than most of you, and maybe you'll all diversify when you get older. You WILL run out of stuff to listen to, and you'll broaden your horizons.. it's all in how it's introduced. For instance, when I was a kid, I only listened to oldies, that my dad played. that's how I got that foundation.. .then when I was like 12, I had this babysitter that listened to Rap, so I got into it.. then I had this friend that listened to R&B, and I got into it... when I was 14, I had this girlfriend who liked pop, so I got into early 90's pop... then when I was 16, I had this chick I fell madly in love with, who introduced me to Nirvana, the Stone Temple Pilots, the BEATLES!... Around the same time, I had another friend who was really into country... As the rap thing progressed, I got into more 70's soul, etc. I dunno, I see music as I see religion, there's only 1, all others are variations on a theme. I just don't see hiphop ever reaching it's full potential, because it's afraid to talk about love, and love makes the world go round. Peace~

If Where Talking About Albums, Then I Would Have To Say My Collection Is Highly Made Up Of Rap Albums (East Coast More Than West Coast, Slightly). But If We Go Onto Mp3's Then I Probably Listen To Alot Of Non Rap, Not As Much As Rap But Still A Fair Amount. Suppose Its Because I Don't Knwo As Much About Them Artists, And I Only Download There Best Songs. Non Rap Artists I Listen To Mainly Are People Like The Beatles, Bob Marley, Oasis, Marvin Gaye, U2, RHCP, Loads More. Quite A Bit Of RnB Artists Aswell.
-
funny someone should mention this cos the only cd i have in my own personal cd collection is a 'sonique' cd. i am really into sonique's music but actually i had it bought for me a few christamases ago...so actually no i have never bought any other album than rap!!
-
i really only buy rap ... i was once nearly gonna get some Madonna albums coz shes had some goods songs but then i probably would'nt listen to it that much .. i don't really like pop or rock or country but i like nearly all types of rap .. i can listen to something serous like 2pac .. westcoast like snoop and dre .. east like jay z and lil kim even "pop" rap like Ja Rule and nelly ..
