Title: What is your fave. quote? (political, religios, etc.)
Post by: Floydness on April 29, 2006, 09:56:14 PM
Mine is by Abraham Lincoln... I think its beautiful... they also used it in American History X it goes like this:
"We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battlefield and patriot grave to every living heart... all over this broad land, well yet swell the chorus of the union."
Pure kindness...

It bugs me that I don't have a faorite quote. There are a lot of good ones out there. Here are a couple that pop into my mind

"Be peaceful, be courteous, obey the law, respect everyone; but if someone puts his hand on you, send him to the cemetery." -Malcolm X

"I submit to you that if a man has not discovered something that he will die for, he isn't fit to live." Martin Luther King, Jr.

"Never take life too seriously. You'll never get out of it alive" -Unknown

"An eye for an eye will only make the whole world blind." Mahatma Gandi

"...that is not for us to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us." -The Fellowship of the Ring

I don't have a single fave quote, but I do have a fave philosopher, so Im going to share some of his quotes here.

You're in war? You're afraid of your neighbor? Take away the boundary stones, and you won't have no neighbor no more. But you WANT war, and that is why you put the boundary stones there in the first place.

Bigotry and fanaticism are the only willpowers which even the weakest can fully embrace.

Is man merely a mistake of God's? Or God merely a mistake of man's?

He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.

The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently.

The most perfidious way of harming a cause consists of defending it deliberately with faulty arguments.

That which needs to be proved cannot be worth much.

Whatever is done for love always occurs beyond good and evil.

We often refuse to accept an idea merely because the tone of voice in which it has been expressed is unsympathetic to us.

The true man wants two things: danger and play. For that reason he wants woman, as the most dangerous plaything.

Belief means not wanting to know what is true.

One should die proudly when it is no longer possible to live proudly.

Great intellects are skeptical.

Like protons and neutrons, life is about positives and negatives, little pluses and minuses. If you cover up the minuses, then the pluses don't mean shit.
