The Russell Simmons-founded Hip-Hop Summit Action Network (HHSAN), which held its first national Summit last June in New York, has finalized plans for a West Coast Hip-Hop Summit next Thursday (Feb. 14) at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.
HHSAN president Minister Benjamin Muhammad will moderate the conference, which has also confirmed the participation of Death Row label head Suge Knight, hip-hop producer Dr. Dre, radio personalities Steve Harvey and Davey D, and many other West Coast-based industry members, activists, and artists, including L.A.-based rapper The D.O.C.
Simmons is sending a videotaped message to be played at the summit, and Nation of Islam leader Minister Louis Farrakhan will deliver the keynote address, as he did at the New York summit last June.
The conference is intended to lay the groundwork for a second national summit, tentatively scheduled this June in an as-yet-unnamed location, as well as address some issues specific to West-Coast hip-hop. Among the focuses of the Feb. 14 summit will be political empowerment (Mario Velasquez, executive director of "Rap The Vote," will speak about voter mobilization) and economic empowerment of the hip-hop nation, as well as the success of parental advisory labeling on hip-hop albums. Another major focus will be hip-hop's relationship with federal regulatory agencies such as the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
As previously reported, Nas, members of the Wu-Tang Clan, Run-D.M.C.'s Reverend Run, Fat Joe, and other hip-hop artists took part in a HHSAN-sponsored Hip-Hop Youth Summit on Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Jan. 21) in Queens, N.Y. Attendees put forth a number of youth-oriented initiatives at the summit, including anti-drug and pro-literacy projects.

do you think anything will go down?
-
I doubt it. If something does happen, I hope Dre and his friends kick Suge's ass.
-
no......
-
one of them wont show
-
doesnt dre have a restraining order on suge?
-
According to tha row, yeah. But I think it's like "no contact" they could still go to the same show, just can't talk.

i heard its no contact, no conversation, no third person conversations, no nothing. BIG BOY from Power 106 even read it. Basically Dre is afraid of Suge
-
i dont see dre showin up u dont really hear shit bout him being all public and shit.
-
I doubt it. If something does happen, I hope Dre and his friends kick Suge's ass.
LOL..that will never happen.
-
Aint these Hip Hop Summits all about improving the name of Hip Hop?, if anything did happen it'd be wack and make a mockery of what is in theory a good idea, i say in theory cause the East had one and nothing really came of it. Shame.
-
Dre wont even turn up. You know Suge is gon turn up cause he just wants to start shit, but Dre will be like 'oh i had other stuff plannned' or somethin
-
As much as I love Dre as my favorite Producer, I just wish he did not appear to be so afraid of Suge. I wish someone would stand up to him. I don't think Dre will appear at the Summit.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! POST OF THE CENTURY!
Sorry, joking but.... You sure you ok? I mean.. Dre and his friends kicking Suge's ass? No comment.

antonio stai muto sfigato

yo ya'll gotta be kidding me.....dr.dre actually have a RESTRAINING ORDER against suge?????? LMFAO!!!!!!! damn thats deeep....dre is a bigger bitch than i thought....i know suge is intimidating but come on now....restraining order??? that is taking it wayyy far....dre acts like suge is gonna kill hime when he sees him
-
Yeah, your right, no contact, no third party conversations, all that, but what I meant was, The restraining order can't keep Suge out of the summit. It just keeps him from talking to dre. He can still show up, legally, and be in the same room as him, because he has business there not dealing with dre.
I agree though, Dre won't show up. However, everybody keeps forgetting, when the Kurupt/Deathrow lawsuit (actually, kurupt's lawyers) went down last year, Dre had to testify, and Suge called him on his cell phone in the hallway outside the courtroom. It was even in the paper, they asked dre what it was about, and dre said Suge wanted to talk about "his new album"... so obviously, as of last year, dre and suge were still talking. Plus, in that source article last year, Suge said that dre had visited him in Prison... but that Snoop hadn't.
-
I wish they wud squash the beef.

ok it seems that dre and suge SHOULDN'T be having issues then..if dre is visiting him in prison and talking to him on the cell phone...then whats up with the no-contact order????? (at first i thought ya'll was joking and shit) anyways, me personally, i don't know about the cell phone thing but visiting him in prison i really doubt that
-
Well, it appears what happened was Dre visited suge a few times after he got incarcerated, because they still had some business connections (royalties, etc. maybe?). Then, when dre was giving testimony in the trial case kurupt's ex-managers were suing Suge about what happened when Kurupt was signed (he was already ina contract)... Supposedly, Suge basically called dre to threaten him... and to make sure he watched his mouth on the stand. Of course it would also be important for dre and suge to have their stories straight, who knows, it might have been possible for them to pin some of the blame on dre. On the stand, dre said suge called him to "Talk about his new album" which is pretty suspicious... why would suge care about his new album, or convienantly call him in the hallway of the courthouse building from his prison cell?

I know it's quite unlikely, but if something does happen, I would be rooting for Dre.
-
Dre and Suge will both be no shows, however, this meeting is much more important than those two men.
I give all the props and respects to Russel Simmons and the Nation of Islam for coordinating this project, and anyone else who participates, I wish them success.

wasn't dre talking about buying back death row too, so he sould save the label
-
wasn't dre talking about buying back death row too, so he sould save the label
LOL! When? Where? Ahaha.. i dont think so, man..
-
lol yeah why would Dre buy a pack of hot dogs when he's already got t-bone steak
-
I'm rooting for Dre all the way, but if they do get together at the summit, I wish they'd squash their beef. It's just stupid. Many beefs are...
-
lol yeah why would Dre buy a pack of hot dogs when he's already got t-bone steak
lol, good point
-
wasn't dre talking about buying back death row too, so he sould save the label
It wasn't quite like that:
In The Source issue with Dre on the cover, runnin @ you from the summer 0f 1999, he talked about how him and Snoop said: Dam instead of letting our shit just crumble, we could of helped them out, but cause of what happend we couldn't.
That's not a direct quote, but that's basically what he meant. Ya know?
-
I just read that Dre and Suge are supposed to do the opening remarks, and have been confirmed, so I guess that means they're showing up. Surely they wouldn't no show when they're supposed to speak.
-
you know that whole court room cell phone thing must have been some shady shiyet... its hella trippy cuz we're never gunna even really have a fucking clue about what is really up with death row...
-
look at it this way....they are all big stars gonna be there = lots of body guards and security....so if they both show up (despite the restraining order) i can't see shit happening anyway!
