Title: The reason Hip Hop always comes back to NY
Post by: herpes on May 15, 2006, 08:07:16 AM
b/c other rappers and fans from other regions always try to compare themselves to ny.  They always cry about how they arent respected by ny even if they are selling millions.  Fans from other regions always try to find a way to show up ny.  For the most part ny aint makin noise on a mainstream level.  But yet the biggest story last year was nas and jay squashing beef and the highest selling album was from a ny'er.  Yet people from other regions try to down play that.  If  all of ny is wack then how come cats from other regions are always bitching about what ny does even when ny aint doing much like now ?

they cry about not bein respected by NY? most of the time it´s NY rappers crying coz they aint seein half of the money that most southern artists makes. and the highest selling album was from an ny'er who sounds like he´s from the south. who´s bitching about NY? like i said, most of the time it´s actually ny'ers doin the bitching.

Not really.  I think you're living in a fantasy world.  New York is very important because of it's history and it's continued influence and shit, but it's not necessary anymore.

Half the southern rappers couldn't point to New York on a fuckin' map so I got a feeling they don't care about being respected there.

fuck new yourk.  the only reason why you made this thread is because you want to bring attention to New York, when nothing is really going on.  the biggest stories from last year were the south and the bay blowin into the mainstream, you could probably say the biggest beef story was Game vs G-Unit, not jay and nas.

the only reason why people down play the record sales is becuase there are so many flops.  yea, you might have the biggest selling album but what about everybody else?  new york is the most overrated region.

I don't think most southern artists care if they get respected anywhere..

And NY ain't even wack at all. Each region got they own style so I think its stupid to compare their music to differnet regions. Fans just do it to try and put their area above another. In the south its all about getting crunk, in the east its all about the lyrics and in the west its about being gangsta or now getting hyphy. ( I'm talking In General so before someone trys to bite me ) So half the people tryin to put NY down probably just don't like they style. Dumbasses.

Must edit:

Did this really happen?  News to me, I couldn't name one song or album from a Bay area artist from last year.

mang, im not tryin to put one region atop another.  the reason why i say new york is overrated is becuase the weakest rappers(from new york) go on mtv and bet.  they sell records simply because people see thier face(image) on tv and want to associate with the person's character rather than their music, while you have people in cali and in the south moving 300,000 units out they trunk.  and you said new york is all lyrical.  can you say dipset, 50 cent, jadakiss, are lyrical?  or the south is all about crunk, what about chamillianre?  he is one of the best lyricist in the game.  its not that one region has one style, thier is a variety everywhere.  all im sayin is that new york shadows everyone becuase of their non-deserving exposure.  and that shit pisses me off, but thats the way the shit is.   >:(

hip hop is always going to revolve around new york because plain and simply they live that lifestyle alot more....hip hop over here on the  west is mostly something you do on the weekends , in the club, or in your car while the radio is playing. down south as well. that's why all you hear from these regions is party music.....and that's why they're eating better than new york artists. but with that said  the reason why most lyracists come from new york is because for every person out in compton standing on the corner freestyling you have 10 in a barber shop in new york doing bustin a flow. for every freestyler standing out in the bayu you have 12 kids standing in front of a hot dog cart bustin out. new york people just in general live the HIP HOP lifestyle that's why.

it's like rock music look at most ofl the popular rock acts that are out right now or in history in general where do they come from or basically get their style from... California?.....why? because people actually live the rock star lifestyle more out here than in new york.

I think that the situation in the west and east from the 90's in not repeating themselves. Back then, the west dominated the charts, but the east dominated the magazines, and the west wanted respect from the magz. Now though, the south doesn't give a fuck about respect, or who thinks that they are good emcees, or anything like that. They care about money, platnum teeth and diamonds on their pimp cup.
