Do you believe the stories about Dr.Dre's suposed stealing credit for other peoples work.
I know I'm gonna get flamed but I do believe to a certain extent. Sure I believe Dre is a great talent & I'm sure he does make alot of beats on his own.
However, theres a saying were theres smoke theres often a fire.
I mean, sure if it was one artist just claiming it, I wouldnt take notice but lets go thru a list of people who have complained about Dre's production being not really his
Above The Law's Bigg Hutch aka Cold187 (claims tracks on ZAGGIN4EFIL were made by him but Eazy gave Dre credit to please Dre & make Ruthless look stronger. Also claims that Dre overheard alot of his production & remade them almost identical for The Chronic)
Daz Dillinger aka Dat Nigga Daz (claims he & Dre's half brother Warren G produced alot of stuff on The Chronic & Doggystyle & Dre just mixed & changed & few things & put his name on it. Some Daz says he didnt even do that, like on High Powered, Rat Tat Tat Tat, Murder Was The Case, Aint No Fun, Serial Killa & few others.)
Warren G (Didnt complain but says Daz & him did do some work on The Chronic & Doggystyle but claims most of it was Dre's work. Then again, would you diss your half brother?)
Sam Sneed (Claims Dre jacked alot of credit for Dre's work from 1994-1996. He is now cool with Dre as a person but claims to not want to fuck with Dre musically because of what Dre suposedly did to him in the past)
J Flexx & Sean Barney Thomas (Almost identical to Sam Sneeds case, claiming they made California Love & Keep There Heads Ringin')
Scott Scorch (Apparently did alot of ghost production on 2001)
Mel Man (he gets his credit & he likes not being in the spotlight like Dre so he doesnt mind if he doesnt get all the credit & the fame)
Some Dude Suin Dre & Xzibit (Claims Dre stole his beat titled "West Coast" & used it on "X" by Xzibit)
As I said, theres alot of smoke, & often in that case, it means a fire.
Just my opinion, yours my be different but so be it.

I'm Feeling What Your Saying.....Dre's Obviously Got Some Talent, But, You Never Know.
-
I somewhat agree wit your opinion. I think that Mel Man & Scott Storch are inspired by Dre's music. As far as Daz and the others claiming they didn't get credit for their work on albums wit Dre. Why can't they make more than a few hot beats these days ? To me it looks like bitterness because Dre blew up and they are broke and he won't work wit them. If Dre did steal credit it seem like he pimped these so called gangstas/ thugs and made them look like lil b*tches. If thats the case its funny how a man that people call a studio gangsta can do so many *real g's* like that. When Detox drops with a new style we'll see how people start hating and say somebody else produced the album or Dre stole the ideas. People should give respect when it is due and I think Dre deserves every bit that he has gotten.
Peace

i am sick of this kind of thing popping up....look at it this way...all the complaining comes from times like 'the chronic' days...when daz and warren g were only just coming out into the big world....but dre was already famous....so more ppl would wanna interview dre and make it look like he did more...and labels would wanna advertise the fact that dre did production to make it sell...but...other than word of mouth and ppl giving dre credit...daz'z name is written as small as dre's name in the album booklets....know what i'm saying? both their names go into the credits but more ppl made a big thing outta dre's production...that's all it is if u ask me!
-
I think Dre did alot of that shit in the past but if you notice from 2001 and after he started giving credit to coproducers...Mike Elizondo is listed as coproducer on the 3 Last Meal cuts and on 2001 Mel-Man was credited with co-producing the album...Daz and Warren G for instance produced most of the 2nd half of Doggystyle...But when Dre heard it he wasn't feeling it so he went back and tweaked the tracks...So if anything Warren G and Daz should have been credited with coproduction but if you look back at Doggystyle there were no credits at all on the album...Anyway what I'm trying to say is that Dre is the one producing sometimes with co-producers but he always has a hand in everything he puts out...
-
when did sam sneed complain, if he was so against dre why didnt he come out an say dre was gay like suge wanted. Warren G said himself that dre did majority of tha work on tha chronic an doggystyle. U said that why would some1 diss there half brother, well why did daz diss snoop than, there cousins. If daz did all this production of doggystyle why does all his stuff sound slightly above average now an that b/c of mike dean. Look at all tha shit he produced on death row. Either Dre or Quik overlooked it for him. Same thing for cold187um, if he is such a great producer than how come no1 knows who he is now, fi he is a great producer he could came out an dropped some hot shit. An back to Daz, he didnt even know how to produce back in tha chronic days. Tha only song on doggystyle that doesnt sound like dre is aint no fun which sounds like a warren G beat
-
j-flexx made that claim.
btw.. for the xzibit thing, the suit is layed @ scott storch's feet - and dre/mel-man etc (if its true) would not have known about it.
-
me personally, i think that dre is one of the best producers and all but he gets TOO MUCH credit i mean peeps actually think that when he produces music, he does everything by HIMSELF..which is bullshit..i read this article about dre's production team and he has like 7 people or something (including scott storch and mel-man, etc.) so i feel that dre "oversees" everything and makes executive decisions when putting music out that was created by his teammates....i truly feel that after listen to "infamy" scott storch probably did do a lot of work on 2001 that he wasn't credited for cuz it has 2001 trademark written all over songs like "get at me", "live foul" (futuristic sounds)..just like daz and warren g did more work than they were credit for on chronic (daz were only credit for drums on rat-ta-tat-tat i think and warren g wasn't credit at all) don't start hatin thats just my opinion.......and for those who is saying dre basically did daz's production work...how the FUCK do you know if dre really did that? were you there in the studio when they were working??? i find it funny how when ANY rapper disses DRE its like this board automatically disses THAT RAPPER.....which proves this board is infested with too many ignorant dre dickriders......and btw the question shouldn't be "does dre take credit for work he didn't do?" cuz is obvious he has done it not a lot but quite a few over the years....the real question should be..."is dre a fraud?" i mean there has been too many accusations to just ignore this issue....and its also REAL funny how everytime a topic like this come up.."somebody" eventually locks it ::) it seems like they don't want people discussing this cuz perhaps they don't want something that could hurt their heros fame or whatever
-
I feel what 2K2 & Tom says, if Dre was such a beat-jacker, how come he got these proteges allover the place:
MelMan
FredWreck
Scott Storch
Warren G
Battlecat
Meech Wells
JellyRoll
Eminem
All these are influenced by Dre, and they all say in interviews that Dre is some sort og magician/perfectionist that can make platinum out of a rock.
And let's look at the credibilty of those who claim Dre stole the credit:
Above the Law - I don't really know, but their affiliated with...
Suge Knight - Talks so much bullshit that even Suge-dickriders only believe 2% of what comes out of his mouth. Could easily have made Above the Law say this about Dre.
Daz Dillinger - Also talks a lot of shit, even about his cousin, and sounds jealous every times he speaks on other people, if that really is him on DPGRECORDS.COM then. If somebody "fell off" it's gotta be this kid. I can believe that he have produced something that he didn't get credit for, but that is probably because other producers (& Dre) needed to tweak it so much that it would sound nothing like the original, and therefore it would be unfair to credit Daz at all. I mean, even today he rarely produce something noteworthy.
Warren G - The most credible of all these, and he never really said that Dre jacked anybody. Today Warren's producing is top-notch, and according to himself, he owes it all to Dre. As a producer he can best be described as "Dre with a g-funk-twist"
Sam Sneed- I don't know
J Flexx - Don't know, but California Love sounds VERY Dre.
Scott Storch - Get's credit for everything he does for Dre, and they still work much together, I never heard him complain.
The dude that sued Storch/Dre/Mel - Never heard of him, gotta wait and see in the courtroom. Don't believe high-caliber producers like Dre/Melman/Storch would need to steal anything from a amateur.
-
"Aint no fun" is everything but a Dr.Dre track. EVERYTHING!
Btw Dre is the greatest, no doubt. I mean.. look at history:
RUTHLESS - Dre was there
DEATH ROW - Dre was there
AFTERMATH - Dre was/is there
DOGG POUND - Dre is still there
But.. c'mon.. 1 guy claiming DRE stole his beat/credits is ok, but.. 10 guys? Mmmmm..
And about those guys doubting Warren G was good to make beats in 1993 (Doggystyle)...... FOOOOOOOOOOOLS! HE MADE AN ALBUM (A FUCKING 5 MICS ALBUM) IN 1994 ALONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Same with Daz Dillinger!!
HE MADE ANOTHER 5 MICS ALBUM IN 1995!!!!!!!!!!
-
well dres a human and he aint perfect. i think wit j flexx dre took the credit cuz j flexx didnt take it so dre took the rights to it cuz j flexx wasnt smart in this rap game. correct me if im wrong.
-
But.. c'mon.. 1 guy claiming DRE stole his beat/credits is ok, but.. 10 guys? Mmmmm..
For every 10 guys sayin Dre's a beat jacker, theres about 30 saying Dre's the greatest. So who you gonna believe a shady minority or the majority?
And Jome hit the nail on the head with his post.
-

I am 1 of those 30, but.. this doest really matter, man! That's another thing. It's like to say that Pac is the greatest. But if he robbed the lyrics of a track from some1... he's still the greatest, but... you know... he still robbed him the lyrics. U know what i mean?
I think that everybody agrees that he's the Greatest ever, but.. but.. 10 guys.. professionists..
300 fans vs 10 of the greatest producers ever? mmmmm... i go with the 10 guys! i dunno you. But still he's the greatest.
-

I aint talking bout, for every 10 producers theres 300 fans, im sayin for every 10 producers theres 30 emcees/producers that say Dre's the greatest.
I see what your sayin IF Dre did/does jack beats, its wrong and shouldnt be tolerated, if i did aload of work and wasnt credited id be pissed too...
-
which version of Cali Love did J-Flexx claim Dre stole credit for, the remix that appeard on AEOM, or the one that most people think about (the one with the Mad Max video and the one on Pac's Greatest Hits)? To me, the remix sounds like it could've been done by J-Flexx, and the original done by Dre
-

I feel you. Well.. we know for sure those 10 producers who worked with Dre. And they are saying he didnt give em credits. What about the other 30 producers giving him props? (rappers doesnt count. They just raps, they dont make beats, so they dont know.. If they listen to a beat credited as a Dr.Dre beat, they gives Dre props. But if it's not really a 100% Dre beat, they'll still gives Dre proprs thinking it's a 100% Dre beat, u know what i mean?).
Btw add 2Pac (a man, that, like Warren G, deserves my respect) and Suge Knight (LOL!) in the big list! And Frank Alexander (2Pac's body guard), and all the guys of "Welcome 2 Death Row", etc..
Like Pac said... "i'm not saying he aint tha greatest.. he IS the greatest producer, but.. i've seen him in the studios like 3 times in 2 years!"... we know the full story! No need to add more. U know what i mean..
-

I don't think Pac used to be around Dre 24 hours a day. Pac was all over the country, and Dre didn't use to produce as much as he does now. And ain't Dre gotta studio at home as in "Produced at Dre's crib"?
-
Okay, then why does...
Daz sound so average doing solo beat?
Why has Warren claimed he never change his formula, "The Chronic" sounds nothing like Warren's type of G-Funk.
Why is it that yesterday I read a Sam Sneed interview where he said he sucked at makin beats when they first met. And that Dre taught him everything he knows? He credited all that to Dre in the latest Murder Dog magazine.
Why does Mel-Man not sound as good making solo beats?
Why did Eazy never diss Dre about taking credit for "efil4zaggin" when they were all beefin?
I read several interviews with Scott Storch, Tommy Coster Jr. and Mike Elizondo saying they are under Dre's control in the studio, and he gives them credit when they give him ideas on a song.
FINALLY...
Being a producer is not just making beats! It's about guiding and artist to make a hit record. Dre does that, and most producers in the rap game don't.
-

Okay this is where you might be confused. But just to let you know, Big Hutch / Cold187Um has been saying this for about 10 years now, since he was on Ruthless (With Kokane supporting him right along with him).... Suge did not make him say this. It was probably Eazy or Jerry
But I do believe that Dre hasn't done every single work that's credited for him; but i'm sure that he's had some sort of involvement in everything with his name on it.
-

Pac made 3-4 tracks a day. I'm sure he didnt make em in clubs or at cinemas..
Plus Dre worked FOR DEATH ROW AT DEATH ROW STUDIOUS. He made The Chronic and Doggystyle etc.. at the Death Row studious, with all his crew.
Now he produce shit in his own studio. But Pac was referring to 1995-1996, of course! LOL!

Yeah, Eazy or Jerry Heller could have done it as well, I know that part. But what do you think that Kokane will say today? Fuck Dre? Didn't think so.
-

Cause DRE and SNOOP are giving him money, foooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool! ;D

You don't think anybody could have given Kokane money for saying that back then? Fooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool ;D
-
damn. i feel what you're sayin. cause i been hearin this type of shit bout dre for the last year or so. alotta people told me he took hella credit for production done by mel-man.
-
Okay, why wouldn't people like Hutch, Daz and J. Flexx be sue happy? Saying Dre stole their ideas or whatever?
This issue has come up again just cause someone asked Daz some questions while he was drunk. Stop hating. ::)
-
let me give yall my 2 cents....
1... dre pre- aftermath...
A. warren g and daz working on a beat. dre comes in makes a few changes and tweaks. feels like those two are working on a beat for him..... Production credit: Dr Dre
B. dre in studio with musicians and assistanct doesnt play any instruments but orchestrates and guides everyone to make the beat he wants to hear...Production credit: Dr Dre
2.... dre post-death row....
tired of everyone complaining and gave credit where credit was due

ummm actually dre was a ghost producer on BOTH of those albums
i could go on and on about how this whole rumor about dre is a bunch of bologna but these are the only two things i need to proove my point
1. if all these producers are so great ....how come all of them have completely fallen off or their quality of music has drastically deteriorated? dj yella....dude's in porn now that's how bad it got for him after Dre stopped workin with him. EVERY one includng daz couldnt cope without dre or some one elses help **cough cough ** dj quik, the only reasn why Daz + Suge diss dre for "stolen credit" becuase hutch initionally dissed him for that (hutch's alligations have been proven wrong as well) and if you havn't noticed all of deathrows disses towards Dre are mirror disses from dre's old beef with eazy, they do this becuase it got to Dre so much back then and that's what they're trying to accomplish again
2. why would George Clinton, Quincy Jones, Phil Collins, issac hayes ( mother fuckers who KNOW their production) proclaim dre the best? Why would every engineer and musician whose worked with dre testify for dre saying he does most if not all of his own production. why would almost every record cheif and personal give dre so much respect and praise. why would the second best producer in rap (dj quik) give dre credit and praise if it wasnt true. How come EVERY artist dre has worked with recently outside of the west give him his dues . WHY becuase he's simply the best. all the rumors can be easily prooved wrong by video tape as well, most of the chronic was recorded on video tape and it shows every one else goofing off and dre steady working
Jimmy Iovine said this about the chronic- the chronic was 90% produced by dre , collin wolf (dre's old bassist) and the glove prouced the other 10
warren and daz didn't know jack shit about producing at this time the only production work they did on here was little tasks dre TOLD warren and daz to do (4 ex. dre would replay a synth line and tell one of them "ok give me a snare snare snare bass snare bass here real quick"....that's all they did
doggystyle was still 90% dre and would've been 100% dre if it wasn' for the time crunch and wasted studio time.....so warren and daz came together and produced 5 tracks to contribute, but only 3 made it ....ain't no fun , lodi dodi, and for all my niggaz and my bitche BUT dre had to remix all them becuase he didn't approve of the quality
dre even said on Yo! mtv raps in 94' that warren and daz contributed 3 tracks that he remixed for the time crunch
and about dre's musicians lol, i laugh at how ignorant you got to be to beleive that no other producers use them....dre's notorious in the production world for having only a selected tight nit few......any and every real producer uses musicians
QUincy jones is the greatest living producer ever....but look at all the people he uses
George CLinton is a production legend....and look at the overwelming amount of musicians he uses
Betoveen and Boch are ALWAYS going to be remembered .....and look at all those fucking instruments
Dre's famous in the production history books for using only a couple of musicians yet producing sounds that rival all the greats in history
FUCK i know i went over board with this like i said i wasn't but i KNOW what i'm talking about here, i'm not getting a scholorship for musical arts and credits in college already for nothin' lol
trust me this rumor is as much of a crock as Dre being gay or wanting suge to turn him white
-
Making beats is only 50% of being a producer. Dre is the real thing cause he does his other part in molding the delivery of the artist. Other peeps who have been claiming this don't even take upon that responsiblilty like Daz and Hutch. SO they shouldn't even open their mouth. Go ask people Like Quincy Jones and Jimmy Iovine.
-
But what do you think that Kokane will say today? Fuck Dre? Didn't think so.
Well that's quite obvious.
-

THANK YOU
and another vital asset of production is being able to mix your own tracks
daz warren and hutch (ithink)
all had dre mix their shit for YEARS, and even now have someone else mix their shit , mixin is basically the other 50% or so of producing
-

Both versions of California Love are REMAKES which sound almost identical to the originals. To argue whether or not Dre 'stole' either of versions is silly to me.
Look, Dre isnt one of the most well-paid, well-known and well-respected producers in the world for nothing. The nigga didnt get where he is at by being some kind of petty beat-thief. Dre DESERVES everything he has. He earned it and like it or not, Dre has a talented ear that not very many people are born with.
-
Alot of you guys are getting all heated on this.
Geezz, CALM DOWN. Its just someones opinion.
Even if I said Dre is a shit producer, thats my opinion which i'm entitled to.
However I dont think that. Dre is a great producer, put I feel he always has people with him helping him & he probably used to take credit for some work.
Though he probably helped alot of people himself & never took credit.
Example, on Jay-Z's "Watch Me" it is so obvious its a Dre beat, yet Irv Gotti gets the credit for it in the booklet.
But theres no denieing that alot of the songs off Doggystyle sound like a Daz beat.
Then again, I believe Dre probably produced some stuff on Dogg Food & didnt get credit.
Its not a question of whether Dre is talented or not, because, he damn sure is, however, he has taken credit for SOME stuff he hasnt done. SOME, get it!. Meaning most of the Chronic, Doggystyle was his work, however Daz & Warren probably input there ideas & did alot of work on some of the songs.
But yall cant denie Daz is still a good producer, he can do good shit by himself. I remember reading Daz was at a radio station & he put togetehr a phat beat for there show intro in half an hour. As I said in the past, I think Daz's problem is that he is lazy & doesnt work hours & layer his shit like Dre does.
Dr. Dre is about an A+
Mel Man is a A-
Warren G is a B+
Daz is a B
Big Hutch is about a C- (man check out his work on the recent Death Row releases, alot of good tracks he turned shit with his reproduction of 2Pac & DPG songs)
-
Warren G is better than just B+, U aint heard ROTR?
Daz is now currently C, used to be B-
-
Warren G is better than just B+, U aint heard ROTR?

I got ROTR, its great, same with Regulate, but alot of Warrens work in between was just solid. He never made anything WACK as but he didnt make anything teribly good either.
BTW, I aint one to give away marks easy, from rating artists, producers, rappers, albums, songs, wrestling matches, PPV's whatever else u wanna say. I analyse well & dont give everyone & there mother 4.5 mics like everyone else seems to do these days
-
Dr. Dre is about an A
Warren G is an A- (he's the best for his style, slow G-Funk. TWINZ'S CONVERSATION IS THE BETTER PRODUCED ALBUM EVER OF G-FUNK IN MY OPINION)
Mel Man is a ?? (need to listen to more tracks of him.. SOLO)
Daz is a B- (potentially he can be an A, but yes, he's lazy)
Big Hutch is about a C- (he ruined Pac)
-
Dre=A+
Dj Quik= A
Warren G= B+
Hutch=D+ or a C-
Battlecat= C+ or B-
Soopafly= C
Daz C- (now) B when he's on point
mel man-A
-
Hutch=D+ or a C-
The man that produced "Black Superman" and all of ATL's classics is not a C- , and definitley a cookie-cutter lazy producer like Battlecat is not better than him.
-

man i'm taking so many classes on production it's crazy, i know what i'm talking about , he hasn't been able to make a solid beat since dre left him with a nice little blueprint when he left Ruthless, and even then he was on the mediocre side, i ain't tryin to cuase any friction here or start an argumen but what he did to 2002 and UTEOT is almost unforgivable

i heard that!! that twinz album might be the best g-funk album produced out there :D
and we do need to hear more of mel man ;)
im feelin for daz cuz he has been left out of the inner circle, he has NOBODY to rhyme over his shit, and he has no choice but to hustle the independant game... :-/
big hutch, mayn he had some wack beats on that latest pac cd... i dont know why suge fuckin with him ???

Dr Dre is the hip hop best producer in the world, whether he was assisted or not.
Alot of the arguments put forth border on being plain silly, as most are no name hacks who are making a desperate claim at fame.
The others are simply pointless. Warren G said he did some of the work, so what?
I can't see this thread as being anything more than a pathetic attempt at degrading one of hop hops most important and loved figures.

Yeah? Cause everybody wrote Dre is the greatest of all time! Read again.. we are just commenting some quotes from other 10 producers we all love about Dre. We aint "degrading" nobody.
-
Antonio,
About Dre's producing abilites, it is my firmly felt opinion if not yours.
As for the comments, as I pointed out very few hold any sort of water whatsoever, that is why I question the intent of the original poster.
It does appear an attempt to degrade Dre. ;)
