LARGE PROFESSOR.
He's been prevalent on some of the GREATEST hip hop albums EVER made: Illmatic, Main Source - Breaking Atoms, A Tribe Called Quest, Pete Rock & INI, and even his grossly underappreciated 2002 solo "First Class". If you haven't heard that solo, you need to check it. He's a beast on the mic and the boards.
Dude produces true hip hop and is true MC. Who else can fuck with him? I know cats will throw out Quik's name, but I think Quik gets more recognition, and i'd argue that Large Pro has taken part in more classic albums than Quik has.
I haven't heard nearly enough of him lately, and I never hear his name brought up. Time to give the man his props! 8)

yeah, i had a tape of him with some hits like the mad scientist and dancing gurl, his organic style of production is really dope, i enjoy more his beats than pete rock's ones. I never heard his last album though, you may upload it you know where

i think this is the only place Quik gets more recognition than LP... people who prefer westcoast rap prefer Quik, people who prefer eastcoast rap prefer LP
IMO Large Professor is an incredibly talented guy, but I've always liked Quik's melodic beats better.

i'd say dj quik is the best rapper/producer... second is erick sermon 8)

most underrated rapper?
AZ hands down
-
I agree that I would put E Sermon and Quik over the Extra P.
-
Large almost had the best beat on 2001, i gotta give it up to Large coz without him my favorite rapper prolly wouldnīt be where heīs at today. LP and Tip are both hella slept on by most hip hop consumers.

Large almost had the best beat on 2001
You mean on Dre's CD???Which beat did he produce???

Oh thats a dope track, but imo, there's tons of beats on 2001 that's better.

was it? fuck i donīt have the album here so i canīt check it. but now that i think of it youīre prolly right. damn iīm stupid :-[

^^ yep that's Lord Finesse
-
Agreed 100%, so many dope tracks he produced for others, plus the Main Source and his unreleased The LP albums are both classics to me. He's releasing an instrumental album soon I think.
-
I think Q-Tip should get a mention. Everyone knows about a tribe called quest and everyone knows about the classic material. But there are a lot of people that dont know he handled most of the production for ATCQ
-
DJ Quik is the most underatted producer/rapper...No1 gives him recognition outside this forum and the few in westcoast.
Eric Sermon is also...
Both have lots more material then Large P

Sermon is very underrated that's true
-
over the past 4-5 years quik is finally getting the recognition he deserves. I see him getting props a lot now, and its about time.

I agree, Large Pro got some dope shit but E and Quik's catalog is superior, IMO.

Green eyed bandit is up there, and Q-Tip is def up there as well. I also like the Shock G reference, that's a guy I tend to forget about. He wasn't a lyrical God, but he was a very talented dude. All in all, everybody mentioned in here have been behind some classic music.
Kanye's trying to put himself out there as a producer / rapper. But a little wordplay and a few metaphors don't do it for me. However, I still think some of his rhymes are better than lots of other popular cats out today. But he doesn't really fit the discussion as he's received endless praise and recognition.

DJ Quik
-
its hilarious y'all say quik. cuz 8 outta 10 dudes on here are on his dick.

Madlib (quasimoto, Yesterdays new Quintet, Madvillian)For The West
Jay Dilla For the East (even though he lived out here in the west for the last couple of years of his life)
Jaylib = Most Underrated duo
-
Paris - one of the most underrated.Pretty damn good beats and great lyrical content
Cold 187um - during the period 1989-1996 he hhas been one of the best producers on the west, responsible for numerous classics. And he has a lot of dope rhymes too
