i didn't even know his new album was out. horrible promotion.
His last album, The Testiment was the #2 most sold album in L.A. the week of its release. plus he was getting air play on power which he no longer gets.
people including myself, seem disinterested in his music since theres no Quik which proves hes nothing without him.
-
did it really? i copped it..a nd it comes with a dvd too..
-
Is this some kind of surprise. People are interested with Suga Free because he's associated with Quik. When I went to see a Quik show at the HOB in Hollyhood, people wanted to see Suga Free back up Quik on Do I Love Her? and other tracks. He didn't show because they were beefing and no one cried over it. Nobody came for him and nobody wants to here him without Quik, simple as that.
-
im listening to it right now and this shit is garbage. im a big free fan but he needs quik asap.
-
it may have been his weakest effort so far but i don't think its all the way around garbage. there's a lot of dope songs on this record...he doesn't necessarily need quik he just needs someone to streamline his beat selection, cause he had dope 1's like "person 2 person" and "change" but then again there were songs like that 1 with the japanese singer which sucked...if u were to judge by "Trauma" then it seems that Quik's production has gotten to weird and experimental for Free anyway, although u never know what Quik has in the vaults though...
-
Quik has the ability to change his production. His beats from Free's last album was during his weird stages and they still were bangin. didn't u see quiks dvd? he said he like to ask the artist who kinda shit they want.
free has some weird wannabe Incubus song on there. shit is wack. i just got done listening to it and the only good songs on the album are "u know my name" & "so fly"
somebody needs to forward this thread to suga free so he could see what his fans think.
-
Quik can make beats for everyone
and Suga Free without DJ Quik is poor

Trauma... weird and experimental?? Man that record shit on anything I have ever heard from any other producer so dont use it as a reason for "Quik not being able to produce Free anymore" ;D
I feel Just Add Water had too many tracks that just werent good. It isnt stong enough to carry 25 tracks...but the standout tracks are really good plus the dvd was better than the one on The New Testament so I think I got money's worth.

IF TRAUMA IS WEIRD SO IM BIN LADEN
DJ QUIK is the best in the West

did it really? i copped it..a nd it comes with a dvd too..
what's on the dvd? i might buy it if the dvd is worth watching, lol

IF TRAUMA IS WEIRD SO IM BIN LADEN
DJ QUIK is the best in the West
Quik is the best but Trauma ain't his best work i luv his older stuff so don't tell ,me im hatin on Quik ...and XL is right some beatz sounds weird u can't deny it!
-
Suga Free's got talent, but like I always said, he aint shit without the Quiksta.
-
Trauma is dope as hell. The production doesnt sound weird, it just orginal and something new. Its still musical. Listen to all the layers and insturments in the songs. Quik likes to change up his style of producing from time to time. Trauma imo is one best albums since 2001.
-
The whole feel of the Trauma CD was anger. Just like Under the Influence I felt that Quik was angry when he made that. Suga Free's new album is good but not great. I'm bumping Roscoe's I Luv Cali more than Just Add Water.
-
Just add water had banging beats for the summer, and suga free is an entertaining rapper Quik or no Quik, its just that alot of the songs werent put together well. Alot of poor hooks as well I noticed
-
i thought the album was tight...i bought it and watched the DVD (which was nice)...of course i would have liked to hear some Quik on there...but Suga Free is super-talented...way more talented than most of the rappers on any coast...its not his fault people can't get over the fact he ain't with Quik anymore...
-
damn i gotta peep this new free shyt. suga free is coo but i never heard him with out quik. so yall seem right, cuz most of the time its the beats hes on im feelin.
and quiks trauma cd was on point. i bring one cd to work sometimes, and thats trauma. may seem weird, but quik has always been like that. its not weird its just here taste this and see if its good. when i do beats, they sound weird sometimes too, u just get sick of the same shyt. so i feel thats y quik do what he do. shyts dope.
suga free messed up boi.

I dint get the record becuase in Montreal we dont get undergournd westcoast records. I heard some tracks wich i thought were banging specaily the onle with the alternative guitars. A lot of the ebats i find actualy sound like something quik would of done.
-
I think this new CD was decent, but like everyone else has been saying, there were a lot of shitty songs on it with the other stuff. If it was like a 12 track CD it would have been good, but still nothing compared to the Quik produced album. This one just seems generic. Also, I don't think it was just the lack of Quik on this one. I can't even quote a Suga Free line from this CD! He had so many one liners in the other two, he really toned down the lyrical content on this as well.
-
I don't think this album is nearly as bad as people say...there are some real nice tracks on here, like Peace of Mind. That track is amazing.
-
like that other guy said, its got a lot of quality tracks, but not enough too fill a whole cd with 25 of em

194 SUGA FREE JUST ADD 5,071 999 25 5,096

Kind of poor numbers, but at least he's there...
-
why im surprised yall feel like this, i thought just add water was one of the best releases of the year, way better than Last Testament... I didn't even feel the missing quik beats.. I thought it was his most diverse and strongest album after street gospel..
-
i wouldve liked to hear suga free over the fandango beat.
-
what's on the dvd? i might buy it if the dvd is worth watching, lol
The DVD is longer, and better, than the one which came with The New Testament IMO. This one has Free just walking around clowning, performing songs (u just see parts of different club performances and so forth) and you also get to see him in the studio listening to his new songs (probally the coolest part).
Guess the CD is not worth buying for the DVD alone, but considering all the good tracks on the CD PLUS the DVD u really get your moneys worth with this one 8) fa shickadeee

i wouldve liked to hear suga free over the fandango beat.
shit, that woulda been wild
-
I thought it was his most diverse and strongest album after street gospel..
i agree about the diversity; but to me it seems as though he is struggling to find his style and flow throughout the album. i think that it would have been a good first album, but i struggle to view it as a strong third album. maybe that is just because i am used to how well he fits the beats by quik.
i have heard some mumbling of a konnected project 2, does anyone know if there is a shred of truth to that?
-
I'll probably cop it...

probably somebody wishing...

i wasnt even trying to say quik's album was weak, on the contrary it was one of my favorite albums that ive purchased in the last few years, i think free's sound as an artist fits better with those 80's electro-funk type beats, which i think is a sound that quik established for him, but it's not a sound that i've heard quik himself messing with too much lately...i agree wit yall though it was a lot of filler, i just felt like it was enough good songs on there to make it worth purchasing...like i said if someone could streamline his beat selection a little bit he could drop dope albums with or without quik, thats my opinion.
-
i think the production on just add water complimented suga frees style just fine, just cuz it isnt what you wanted to hear doesnt make it shitty....although "ranger" was pretty wack
-
I dont care who it does Suga free, Dr Dre or even Dj Quik 25 tracks is wayyyyyyyyyyy too much
-
not having quik do any production, definately made things worse off for suga free. I only heard a couple of songs, and wasn't really paying attention. Knowing that quik didn't produce at all on it, I just have not even been very interested in listening to it. Whereas, his 2nd album I listened to right away and it stayed in my ride for a week straight.
Suga Free is cool and all, but for me, quik made suga free. He just sounds so much better over a quik produced song. Kinda like snoop with dre.
-
it's not like Suga Free goes 10x platinum with every release....he has to have an album that actually moves units before he can drop a flop
-
Quik can make beats for everyone
and Suga Free without DJ Quik is poor
True.
I mean I bougth this album, it's pretty good but it's a let down cause Free can do better things... and Quik can help him again!
Jus because Quik makes songs like Ladies and Thugs it doesn't mean he can't do songs for Free, "What You Want" and "Get Up" are both inspired from James Brown, same style.

But Quik could switch his style over and do something for Free that would shake the world....but I agree with you. Quik is a genious and Just Add Water is worthy of purchase ;D

Suga Free aint gonna be doing big numbers as long as he hits the targets he is aiming for then its all good.
