Dubcnn sat down with New York Hip Hop legend Guru of Gangstarr fame and his partner and producer Solar for an exclusive interview. They explained what it takes to make it in the independent game and run a label like 7 Grand Records. We discussed the "Street Scriptures" album as well as the upcoming "Jazzmatazz Volume 4" and the philosophy behind it. Guru also talks about industry politics, while Solar speaks his mind on dealing with critics and the extra hate that comes with it.
Click here to check it out. As ever you can read or listen to this exclusive Dubcnn interview and we urge you to leave feedback on our forums or email them to liljay@dubcnn.com.

Damnnn. Them muthafuckas were showing madd love. Guru especially. That's tight.

Props Jay. I know when you solicited our questions, I didn't realize is was more in line with the release of Jazzmatazz 4, so lots of our questions didn't apply. Your questions were real relevant to that project which I'm sure they appreciated (instead of hearing 1000 questions about Gangstarr). Plus you kept it real conversation style, not just random ass questions. So good job. 8)
Anyway, I can't front, I haven't heard any of Guru and Solar's shit yet, so of course i'd like to hear it. I liked how they are seeking the alternative media to promote their projects. It's obvious that MTV/BET ain't gonna reach out an let this shit be played, so they're being smart by going through the net. And all that shit that they spoke about the payola with The Source and all that, its disgusting. Guru is an icon to me, I'll def be checking for their shit.

That line Doowop said on "step into the arena 2" "If I make a hot beat can I fuck Lil Kim?" I was rollin on the floor when I heard that shit.

Why isn't this posted in the westcoast section like Yayo's interview was???
-
that would be my bad, i posted the yayo interview there.
-
Guru said it - Great interview. Real dope this one.
-
allthough Guru puts me to sleep i gotta say that he seems to be a good guy. and i appreciate artists that goes indebt with their answers and not the usual "yes, no, yea that´s exactly how it is" etc etc.
-
those projects he got upcoming sounds interesting 8) great interview !
-
I'll always have a lot of respect for Guru and to me he is definitely one of the greatest MC's in Hip-Hop. It's funny that Jay should mention that MTV poll because I wrote in to that "You Tell Us" section of their web-site asking where Guru was in the 'honourable mentions' list since I found it poor that he wasn't even referenced. They never did show my comment.. :'(
Well, props for the interview Jay! Both Guru and Solar seem pretty cool to talk to.

thanks for the feedback everyone, keep it coming!

It's one thing to be a smartass, but it's another to fail at being a smartass
