Title: favorite ice cube era
Post by: MontrealCity's Most on June 08, 2006, 07:44:09 PM
I was listing to the street fighter song from cube up on the main pages and it got me thiking about cube and his different styles check it. I find hes had different styles threwout his career and changed his flow a couple of times.
There was the nwa days going into amerikkkas most, death certificate and kill at will then he began to change a bit in the predator. BY the time leathal injection dropped, his style was different then he came out with b-sides and all the stuff with mack 10 and Wc.
Then there was the clubbin days with the peace album wich not lyricly but flow wise is similar still today.

Nw trying to explain my thoughts lol hope everyone got it. My favorite era is the leathal injection westside era.
Whats yours

i think the best cube cd is death certificate for many reasons, one of em is the atmosphere on this cd. But i gotta be in a special mood to really enjoy this cd because it's mad ol school but it's still my favorite. Lethal injection got some wicked beats two, cube is pretty cool on the g funk sound, but the best beat he rapped on are, i think, the bow down cd, that's one of my favorite cd. I'm not too down wit what he did after that, but there's some cool tracks like hello and i will still support this west coast vet no matter what

my favorite era would be 94-97, he was the ultimate west coast rapper, he had style , he had a message, and he did everything just as good if not better than anyone during this era

My favorite era overall would probably be '91-'94...that was when Cube's music emphasized messages and making points about different issues (some still relevant today, IMHO). Also, the production he got during that era was the one that turned me on the most musically, w/ the mixture of funk samples and some live instruments thrown in the mix as well. Cube wasn't just entertaining people; he was speaking about things that I would imagine meant a lot to him personally. He just had the perfect combo of consciousness and gangsta styles; he educated you w/out being preachy.

My least favorite era is probably the Don Mega days, '97-'99. That whole flossy boss baller image--It was almost like Cube was lyrically pissing on those who didn't have as much cash or prestige as he (meaning just about everybody--how many of us will become rich in our lifetime?), whereas before, he would stand up for the rights of the oppressed. The sad part was (and is) that songs like "Extradition," "Ghetto Vet", "3 Strikes You In", "The Peckin' Order", and "Penitentiary" (to name a few) proved that Cube could still do issues-type songs when he wanted to. I don't know if he was talked into trying to reach more of the suburban audience by making the sounds all gothic and shit, but when I think about this era, it just didn't seem like "Cube" to me. As for "We Be Clubbin'"...it really wasn't that bad for a club song, but I don't find myself getting the urge to play it much nowadays...

We'll have to see what happens now that LAUGH NOW, CRY LATER has come out--Cube said in an interview that he doesn't want to take so many years off between CDs anymore, and that he wants to return to recording on a more regular basis. LNCL is certainly the best thing he's done in years (not a classic, but excellent), and if he does decide to keep rapping on a more regular basis, maybe (God willing) Cube can continue to improve on the good start LNCL gives him. But we'll have to wait and see what happens.

PEACE!

First off, I gotta say I love all of Cube's material. But most loved of his "phases"... It's either the N.W.A. days or the "I hate white poeple" days.

I'm probably gonna go with N.W.A. He's hungry, angry and funky at that time. "I be what is known as a bandit/ you gotta hand it to me when you truly understand it/ 'cause if you fail to see, read it in braille it'll still be funky." "Here's a little somethin' about a nigga like me/ never should'a been let out the penitentiary/ ... About drinkin' straight out the 8-bottle/ do I look like a muthafuckin' role model/ to a kid lookin' up to me/ life ain't nuthin' but bitches and money."

Love that shit, love it.

lol@ i hate white people era...funny shit..but true though..

I think this: who gives a shit about all conscious tracks..  cube needs some party tracks...it can't be all party shit..because it'll get too boring...lyric wise..it's all good..but i wanna hear something at times...where i can just bang...while i drive fast on freeway...
like if i'm going to club...i put WE BE CLUBBIN'...or you can do it...those type of shit...

WHen i'm mad..i bump ghetto bird..

That Common diss was wack.

What was that line 'you aint dropped anything dope since ameriKKKas most...'' well i guess common never heard Death Certificate.

AmeriKKKas Most Wanted/Kill At will is the best solo Cube era.

Definitely Cube's whitey-hating days.  Somebody needed to tell those devils to stop being so self-righteous, and who better to state the message than Cube?

Why on God's green earth did Cube diss Common ??? they are like two different catagories of rappers

Because he interpreted Common's "I Used To Love H.E.R." as disrespecting the West Coast's contribution to hip-hop.

Common absolutely murdered him, tho, on "The Bitch In Yoo" - that's easily one of the Top 10 diss tracks ever recorded.
