80% of rap brought by white kids from tha burbs, where did this statistic come about. I find that very hard to believe. I know that white kids from tha burbs buy majority of tha pop rap like ja rule, nelly, an eminem (im eminem fan so dont think im hatin on him). You go into any ghetto or whatever they always playin rap. I went to tha puff puff pass tour it was a mix of every race. If 80% of rap was brought buy white kids wouldnt there be more white rappers. On tha board it seems like an even mix of every race, color, an creed. Can some1 explain how they got this statistic, some1 on tha board mentioned this an than i was at another board an they were talkin bout this. I find that very hard to believe

well i was watching this report on CNN..on john walker and some music executive said that.. ???
surprising..isnt it ??

Makes perfect sense, one because they have the money, and two because what is popular with them is what is selling right now, i.e. Jay Z and Ludicris. In the streets, people have more important things to buy, like grocreys, or in my case, pay off bills. I wish I could buy CDs, but hey, white kids from the subrubs are because they have that kind of money. That's the way it is, or else the D.P.G. would have fucked up saies despite being underground, and Kurupt Streetz Iz A Mutha would have been the top selling album of '99, 'cause most people I know loved that CD more that 2001.

Word, no dis to Kurupt, but "the Streetz.." against 2001?
Holla back youngin'.

I remember going to Puff Puff Pass and seeing this really really white girl rap to every one of Bad Azz's song.... i was like WHOA!.... how does a white girl know a Bad Azz song, I guess I was just to ignorant... and she is from Wisconsin

Same in the I.E. Though 2001 was hella loved too. I loved it and bumped it everyday for about a year. But Streetz Iz A Mutha still gets played now, and I still hear Callin' Out Names played in other people's cars... ha ha
-
probably cuz all my niggas dont buy the shit they just bootleg em all instead! haha, ya think we gonna pay for shit when we can justa about afford groceries n shit!?!?! lol
nah im messin, i dunno man buts a shock 2 me that 80% is white!
-
I gotta believe that statistic holds up about Nelly and Jay-z, but I don't think Streetz iz a Mutha had 80% of it's sales from white kids...Maybe the other way around...
-
i kinda doubt that cause i am white and i only buy dpg westcoast shit most of my friends don't really like rap but if they do they like the same shit i like but i play basketball and i have alot of black friends and all they buy is well nothingit's kinda funny those muthafuckas have like hella of cds and not one of them is from a store all bootlegs
-
oh yeah about the ja rule nelly stuff i think alot of the little white kids do buy hella that stuff cause my little brother is in middle schooland all his friends buy like every pop rap cd it's hella gay
-
im white, wheres all my money at to buy pop rap cds with!?!?!?!? god dammit,i wanna be like everybody else!!!!! >:(
-
because alot of black peeps bootlegg the album. Most peeps in my school bootleg it. On the eastcoast mix tapes realy affect sales.
-
Word to whoever said black folks got more important shit to buy...White kids do most of the buyin...but why is y'all actin' so suprised...it's not like it said 80% of white kids like rap, & only 20% of black kids do...I have never meet a single brotha in the entire world that doesn't like rap...
-
I THINK it"z pretty logical.......tha thing i dont get iz how streetz credeblility iz messured(if most of tha peepz buying
recordz iz kidz from tha burbz...lol)?....oh hell....but as for "streetz iz a mutha" being tha best selling record if only tha ghetto peepz waz buying rap shit....I ain"t sure....ya thinkin of it as of some underground masterpiece...i think tha reason most peepz tend to overrate it iz cauze it wazn"t sellin.
KURUPT wazn"t showin any stunin lyrical ablities.....in fact it only made a stronger impresion of how much better could kurupt be if he"d stick wit some of hiz earlier stylez...but kurupt iz not tha topic....did ya know that Xzibit dat yall considered an undergound rapper waz nearly platinum...and gold in europe....if i aint mistaken hiz "in tha speed of life" sold 900,000 ....so tha underground iz a relative thing and you gotta remember that there iz rap buyerz in europe and in some of tha mid east (ISRAEL for example...LOL) too...and most peepz in euro-asia dont even know who KURUPT iz (we dont even get DAZz and kuruptz cdz over here)....and peepz dont know who C-BO iz......who CROOKEED I iz.....peepz don"t know of tha veteranz of RAP....Rakim, NWA (THEY know tha name but they never heared shit of their shit) htye never heared of KRS.
....I"ll tell you this....we got lotsa RAP fan wannabes ....they think of JA rule and NElly AS THeee RAPPAZ.... lol....they don"t know the classicz....THEY DONT KNOW SHIT....i feel real superiour around here....lol....anyway i kinda went of topic....i just felt like tellin you bout how it iz outside tha statez...

The problem is that many people (well, at least in Germany) don't really deal with the music. They don't know any lyrics and bump just what is on top of the charts. It's sad that everyone knows Nelly or Ja-Rule but when I mention DPG or Bone-Thugs they don't know what I'm talkin about. The funniest thing is that when they are asked about 2Pac they say shit like "Fuck you, Jay-Z is way better".

why do u all have a problem with this FACT? why is it a problem? why don't u like it? fuck that...because they like rap thats why! does it matter to u that more whites buy rap? and that they r from the burbs? and i can tell u that it aint strictly true that they all listen to pop rap shit....cuz from the ghetto they listen to gangsta shit....and where we have moved to now....they still like that hard shit and sorry to say it but most ppl hate eminem...........
and why do ppl always appologise for saying stuff about eminem? for example...'i aint hatin cuz i'm an eminem fan 2'....fuck that 2.....

Yeah, that's the spirit. But you needn't be from the gutter to listen to gangsta-rap do you? And allthough many claim to hate Eminem, many of them just says it because he's white/because they don't like his voice/the publicity/sales whatever. If they should be honest, they should respect his skills.

Hey... I just know that Jay-Z, Nelly, and Ja Rule are selling hella copies, and no one I know from my area likes them. Kurupt's Streetz Iz A Mutha was a fuckin' street classic. I say that because it's one of the few CDs I saw broke ass muthaphukkaz get off their sets and buy. Most people wait to see if the CD is good, or sample it first to see if it's good. When everyone buys it, I call it a street classic, 'cause everyone has it on the streets. Nelly, Ja Rule, Jay-Z, No Limit were never street classics here, but not all street classics were underground, or non sellers. The Chronic, Eazy E - Str8 Off The Streetz of Muthaphukkin' Compton, Mack 10 - Based On A True Story, and most resent Kurupt- Streetz Iz A Mutha were all street classics around here. I don't know about other places, but the I.E. is like that.
As for Eminem, yes he sells because his white, and kids relate to him in suburbia, but so do the other black commercial artist, and I don't hear as much shit. Eminem has more skillz, than all those other commercial rappers, so the man has earned his due. White ain't shit, 'cause the man is good. D-12 sucked, but everything else is classic.

1.Tha Streetz and 2001 are equal, end of story
2.80% of rap is BOUGHT by white kids from the burbs,..more blacks LISTEN to rap but more whites BUY rap, you'll see more blacks bumping power 106 than you will hear bumping the new warren g or nas ya dig? so 80% of the purchased rap goes to white suburban kids while generally speaking more black people will bootleg and just listen to the radio...there are exceptions..many of course but this is just GENERALLY speaking....so don't call me discriminatory or something
sincerely,a half white half mexican kid in the burbs,peace-Tanjint

2001 is more consistant IMO plus it's a better put together album...that's where i give my nod
and why is everyone trippin' off of where music is bought?
as long as th music satisfies you, let it be

1.Tha Streetz and 2001 are equal, end of story
I'd beg to differ, when the thread about "Best cd in last 5 years" was on here a week ago, everybody mentioned 2001, and 2-3 mentioned "Streetz is.." It was by far 2001 that won. "Streetz.." was one of my favourites when it came out, but in the test of time, its 2001 that comes out first. Cuz.
-
I ain't saying Streetz was better than 2001, personally, I like 2001 better, but want people were bumping on the streets, was well... Streetz. The whole point to begin with was that people on the streets, broke muthaphukkaz, those with more important things to buy other than CDs, so they save their money instead, those that scare the shit out of that old white lady in the store just by walking in, those people buy different shit, sometime the same. The thing is that they do not make up what's platnum and what's not, it's the suburban kids. Does that mean Streetz Iz A Mutha was better than 2001 because most street muthaphukkaz pick that up... NO! It just means that people on the streets are feeling a different type of sound. Everyone else thought 2001 was better, fine, I do too. But when I'm at home, even this summer, two things I notice out of every car, Laker flags, and a track off of Streetz Iz A Mutha playing, maybe because the radio played out 2001, but Streetz was still playing on what was going on 2 years. This is just San Bernardino though, this summer well see what else is playing, hopefully Hittman. :D

im from australia, and wat do u guys mean when u say burbs?? if u talking bout suburbs then over here some suburbs over here r probably more dangerous than some citys

I'm not mad at this fact. Most hip hop is sold out of the US and to other then Black or Brown folks. I think its great, cuz hip hop is universal and touch's everyone differently. This is a good thang, ya'll!

it aint strictly true that more blacks listen to rap and they just bootleg it more....i would say equal amounts of ppl from all races listen to rap really....cuz there are so many different styles that they can pick up on......and back to the eminem thing......yeah everyone agrees that his skills are dope....but fuck they still don't like him....and it aint cuz he is white.....cuz did i forget to mention that i know no blacks at all?? so u can't blame his race for the amount of hataz he has around here...............
