Rob Zombie is currently writing a script and is set to direct a throwback "Halloween" film, which begins as a remake, taking us from Michael Myers killing his sister as a child, to Michael Myers in the present day. It sounds interesting to me, I really enjoyed "House Of 1000 Corpses" and "The Devils Rejects". Those were some grimey movies, maybe he can add a breath of fresh air to the franchise...Here's an interview with Rob answering questions regarding the project:
QUESTION: Why do you feel that you are the person to take on this project? (from Anna in Florida)
RZ: Because I have a vision that I believe can work. If I didn't I wouldnt go near it.
QUESTION: Can you please clarify what you mean when you say you are "not making a sequel" and that your Halloween will be a "re-imagining" of the series? Isn't that just another word for "remake"? (from Cole in Chicago)
RZ: Well, sort of. I am basically making a prequel and a semi-remake of the first film all in one. So really in theory there will be more original content than remake content. That's why I don't like the word "remake."
QUESTION: What is the title of the next movie, and are you finished with the script yet? What can you reveal about the storyline of the new movie? (from Eric in Canada)
RZ: HALLOWEEN, no and not much.
QUESTION: For the next film, are you planning to maybe go into what Michael's childhood was like and how and why he became the serial killer he is? Is it at least going to take place in 1978? (from Sylvain)
RZ: Yes, I think this aspect of the story is very important in order to bring new life to the character of Michael Myers. The film begins in 1978.
QUESTION: Halloween is the most influential horror movie ever made and I for one am not happy about a remake. All of the remakes to hit theaters - from Texas Chainsaw to The Omen - were total crap. Why touch a classic like Halloween? Why would you even risk this? (from Mike in New York)
RZ: Like I said in Question 1, I wouldn't even go near this project if I didn't feel like a had a fresh, worthwhile approach to the material. Besides, I'm not touching one single frame of Carpenter's classic. That film will remain as it always has.
QUESTION: The masks in the past 4 Halloween films were all different, and some of them weren't scary. Are you going to re-design the mask, or will you stick to the Captain Kirk version that was used in the original film? (from Todd)
RZ: I want to keep the mask classic.
QUESTION: Are you you planning on using any previous characters from the first 8 films (like Laurie Strode and Dr. Loomis) or are you planning something entirely new with no old characters? (from Jamie in Scotland)
RZ: Both, but I won't tell you which just yet.
QUESTION: Since you are a musician, will you be doing the entire music score for the film, or will you be collaborating with anyone else? And will you integrate any of John Carpenter's classic themes into the score? (from Craig)
RZ: I do not plan on doing the score for this film myself other than in a supervisor position. I have already done some work with the composer and we both feel that Carpenter's themes are classic and will play an important role.
QUESTION: Your films are known for their gore, but the Halloween films haven't been very gory, they have been more suspensful. Do you plan to focus on gore or suspense in your version of Halloween? (from Paula)
RZ: I plan to focus on character, mood and terror.
QUESTION: How does John Carpenter feel about your involvement in the new Halloween? (from Zack in Georgia)
RZ: I talked to John about it and he was vey supportive. He basically said, "That's great Rob, go for it and make it your own." What more do I need?

LMAO...I take it you don't like his style? Honestly, what can be worse than "Halloween: Resurrection"?
-
He seems to be taking this very serious so it could turn out to be something good...

You know me, I never wanted this series to stop putting out new movies because you know how much i love the series. But if this movie sucks(which id say has a 85% chance of happening) I just want the whole series to come to an end, because this shit is getting ridiculous.I'm just waiting on the contest where some lucky fan gets to write, direct, and star in halloween 10.

LOL@"Halloween 10"...This can't possibly suck any worse than the last one. It will most likely be an improvement, and Rob Zombie has proven that he has a place in Hollywood. Give it a chance (I know you will)...PeACe

IN MY OPINION, and again just my opinion, this has a lot of potential. It's my opinion that sequels, especially in the horror genre, stand alone even though they're sequels... what I mean by that is, it doesn't ruin my opinion of the series if 1 or 2 of the sequels were shit, it leaves the door open to still make a good movie in the future, because the character is so strong. They could make 100's of Michael Myers movies, and if they were different from each other I'd watch all of them. Some would be shitty, but it's a fucking horror movie. The plot doesn't have to be great... even if it's a shitty plot it's worth watching to me. Some of the best horror movies were the stupid, stupid shit they did in the 80's.
All of Zombie's stuff is good usually, so I'll definately see it.
-
i really hope this doesnt suck. hopefully like nik said he can breath some life back into the franchise cuz after 4 i stopped watching.
-
^ The only reason you stopped watching, though, was because you KNEW they were going to suck. Nothing caught your eye.
If he does it right, you'll know from the trailer it'll be different and go see it. I don't think the storyline is dead, somebody just needs to step up to the plate and do it right, and Zombie definately can get that accomplished. Whether he will or not remains to be seen.

That means you only saw 3 out of 7 Michael Myer flicks...1, 2, and 4...Those were all good. "Halloween 6 (Producer's Cut)" is one of the better ones in my opinion (the theatrical cut ruins it). 5 is decent, 7 is alright (though I didn't like it much), and 8 simply sucked...This one can be fresh, Zombie is innovative.

The theatrical cut of 6 is actually one of my favs. Obviously the P-cut is better but i love them both.

The theatrical cut was all over the place...I mean, it's not as bad as the next 2, but you can tell a lot of shit is missing and that it was heavily cut up just by watching it...I liked it when I first saw it, but then I saw the original version, and it just brought my opinion down...
-
Oh cool, can't wait. Halloween is my fav!

I just hope they change the title...He said it would just be titled "Halloween". I'm guessing it'll probably be "Rob Zombie's Halloween", but I think they should come up with something original...PeACe

October 31st might work, lol

my prob with horror movies these days is that theres no like strong build up of your mood, its just gore and shock, people need to learn from hitchcock

Anyone can say that...I'll wait to see this before I judge.

the only suggestion i would make to fix the series is to erase halloween 3. and change the titles after to have the story make sense.
as for this being good, ::)
shits gonna suck and i got 20 bucks saying this is just his way of not having original ideas.
Zombies next projects:
friday 13th.....prequel
nightmare on elmstreet...sequel and prequel in 1
candyman....with a white guy
chucky...as a human
and finally
hell raiser...before hell

^^You're being pretty negative...Rob Zombie has proven to be a good director and the "Halloween" series has been getting tired for years now. This has a chance to be good, better than the last few. A lot of ideas in this film WILL be original...As for Zombie doing projects for other franchises, I highly doubt it, but it actually wouldn't be a bad idea...
-
i hate robs style it shouldnt be about gore.. it should be about the suspense of the scare. Also you will be disapointed as what i have stated is true. I also forgot to mention Michael calls laurie "boo".. Halloween 3 was awesome.. Halloween was supose to be a serries not just about michael. Halloween 4 was supose to be Prince Of darkness.. Only Halloween i hate is H8 but i like it alot from the directing stand point. But its all over for the veiwer.. Also alot of key scenese from the movie were cut out. If those scenes were left in a a couple other cut. I have to say H8 would not have been to bad of a film. These scenes didnt make the dvd for some odd reason.

Im not saying he couldn't surprise me but his movies have not shown me he can do it.
hes proven himself to be gory thats it. His stories where very simple with really fuct up people. They were good for beginners but to ligit take on a project like halloween?
he hasnt shown a vision that has proven he can even hadle this. All the scenes in his movies where creepy or gory and, to me, you need more than just a murder every 5 mins.
BUT
we'll just wait and see, no disrespect
-
I wasn't really a fan of zombies work, but it's gotta be better than Halloween Ressurection right
-
BLAH... Either have the o.g director on it or stop the series.

Wow, have you watched "The Devils Rejects"?
